Week 9: Milan - Sassuolo (Sunday, October 25 - 15:00 CET)
#21
I'm going to end up missing the match as I'm going to be out. I must say it looks difficult to get a win, not only are Sassuolo playing good football, but they play in a way that has been damaging for us in recent times, usually breaking quick and very direct. I think we need to try and pin them back and try to prevent the quick breaks. The counterpressing measures being discussed in the tactics thread would probably be the most effective way. I don't think they'll try to come out all guns blazing, instead I think they'll be content dropping deep and playing for the counters. The reason is they'll know we're crap at defending counters and we tend not to have incisive play to break down teams who are tight and organised.

The aim really should be to control play and hold possession a little, showing patience in breaking them down.

They basically said that we just don't have the players that we once did, and that it is going to take time to rebuild the club. It's good that someone's saying that instead of Berlusconi and Galliani talking about winning the Scudetto. A bit of realism is definitely needed at this club right now.

Yes, but exactly because of that, they may get the axe. Berlusconi and Galliani only want people who blindly support them and blindly follow them. Results on the field aren't even that important.

So Bacca is available. Great! After all, he is our only decent player, other than Diego Lopez. Icon_lol2

What is the point? Mihajlovic will bench Lopez in favor of Donnarumma, so tomorrow we you will still have only one decent player on the field. Grinundwech

Those in North America (and some other places too) don't forget Europe is changing clocks tonight. So for example for North America the match is at 10AM ET instead of 9AM

I would assume so, it wouldn't make sense to try and shift system now, plus as Miha said in the press conference we don't have enough forwards to play 2 up front, rather if we did, we wouldn't have the options from the bench (unless Cerci is up front).

Good news is Bacca's back, which is a big bonus, as I think he showed against Torino that he works well up front. Interesting news is Donnarruma is apparently going to get the call ahead of Diego Lopez, with the Spaniard furious. It'll also mean Donnarruma will break Buffon's record for youngest debut for a keeper in Serie A.

It'll be interesting to see the lineup. I think there's a lot of uncertainties. I hope Calabria starts, as I think he made a great showing in midweek against Inter and deserves a place as others haven't totally convinced. One of De Sciglio/Antonelli should be on the other wing imo, with possibly Alex and Romagnoli in the middle. In midfield, I want to say a trio of Kucka, Montolivo and Bertolacci, allowing Bona, Honda and Bacca up front. However, I suspect Berto's not ready after his injury, so Bona will probably drop back with Cerci on the right. Personally, I'd consider Poli as a straight swap for Bertolacci. Poli's not great, but I think he's been ok when coming on as a sub this season, certainly no one else has stepped up to deserve it more.
