Coppa Italia Quarterfinal: Milan - Carpi (Wednesday, January 13 - 21:00 CET)
#1
As has been previously mentioned, we have a relatively easy route to the Coppa Italia Final as the winner of this match takes on the winner between Spezia and Alessandria. However, I believe that only the winner of the League Cup gets direct passage to the Europa League - there's nothing for the runner up. So if we want to make this count, we need to both get to the final AND win it. Let's take one game at a time though seeing as we quite recently drew away at Carpi in the league...

There's place for us if we lose in final against team which secured Europe through the league table position.
I believe most of people see there Juve,Inter or Napoli which are about 99% to achieve Europe via SerieA, so , in fact, it's like we're already there. It's sad.

Can we really reach the final though? I know that on paper we should.

I'm not complaining. Europa League is better than nothing, we'll still get some money from broadcasting and whatnot. Besides, even if we qualified what chance would we have to make it out of the group stage? I'd rather reach the quarters of Europa League and possibly win by some insane miracle if we buff up our squad, as a pose to getting embarrassed in CL.

I completely agree with you. One more season without any european competitions would be equal to disaster for us. In CL we will be included from the "worst",4th draw group,so it is most likely that we would end up our appearance in the group stage-with this "quality" we have now.I also don't want to watch Milans ass kicked like Romas - 6-1 etc in CL.
But,the way we will(hopefully) reach Europe is sad. I mean,we need to wait for somebody to kick out Viola and Roma so that we can have chance againt SerieA special relegation forces(Karpi) or SerieB(or lower) teams.

There is no European place for the runner up in the domestic cup.

Quote:Performances in domestic leagues will be rewarded. If a national cup winner has booked a UEFA Champions League spot, the highest-ranked club in their domestic league not already qualified for the UEFA Europa League will qualify for the competition; national cup runners-up no longer qualify.

That must be some new rule, applied from this or last season. I knew there was place for runner up earlier if winner is already qualified.
Well, than even worse for us. I doubt we can be placed so high in the league table at the end of season. Not with this "players" we have .
Let's hope that we can somehow win that Cup.

We have a clear path to the final, we'd just need to give our all in the final and hope for the best. Does anyone know who our possible final opponents would be?

Lacio -Juventus , Napoli-Inter are quaterfinal matches on the other side of a draw.

If we lose the final (and miss out on Europe), wouldn't that be the worst possible scenario then? Confused
