2 years before he went to Bayern, there was rumors that Galliani asked Barcelona for Thiago Alcantara and that the price was 22mil. I remember being on the forum debating that we should not even think about it and pay the 22mil. There was also people who believed that 22mil was an excessive amount of money for a than 19/20 year old midfielder who was not getting much time for Barcelona. That was the same same year we bought Ibrahimovic I think. I might be wrong though and it may have been a year after. I think that same summer the U21 Euro was going on and Spain was the winner, with Alcantara being completely dominant in the midfield.
I understand that young players are a risk, but they also offer much greater returns if things work out and you support them the right way.....and if you do your homework. Just imagine if we paid the money and got Verratti. He was right under our noses in Serie B. He was even in Milan years ago training with our youth teams. How the hell can scouts from France see the potential yet ours that operate within Italy couldn't. Of course, PSG could also just throw 12mil away and not care if things were going to work out or not.....but now a few years down the road, it's clear that they knew exactly what they were doing.
Ah, yes......the good old days....
