The only reason I'm advocating selling the club is because we need a complete managerial overhaul. As far as funds go, they've been mismanaged - while we wouldn't have had 100m a season to throw away every summer like Man City and the big European clubs, we could've still been competitive had anyone but baldy been responsible for our transfers.
Imagine we kept Saponara, El Shaarawy, Rami and spent the 20m we did on Bertolacci on another midfielder like Witsel or Kovacic lets say.
-------------Els------------------Bacca------------------Bonaventura-------------
--------Saponara--------------Witsel----------------Monty----------------------
---DS--------------Romagnoli--------------Rami---------------Abate------------
---------------------------------Donna----------------------------------------------
I know it's not perfect, but it's better than what we had all season and certainly closer to our young Italian project we claimed to have by using Saponara and ELS. Bonaventura could've sacrificed his cutting in and shooting from the left to play a more proactive creative role, being right footed I'd expect him to swing more balls in the box playing on the right, because often he'd have to cut in onto his right foot before he'd cross playing on the left.
Not to mention, this line-up doesn't include the players we mistakenly kept like Menez, or getting Balotelli/Boateng back who between the two probably cost 5-6m euros in wages before tax. In wages and/or sales just between those three - we could've added another midfielder or defender, and had Niang, Honda & Adriano as subs.
That's just last summers screw ups. The years previous, including money thrown away on deadwood contracts.. We could've easily added a couple of solid if not star players into the line-up.
