I know it's only July 7th, and I know I'm making a meal out of this.....but you can't help but feel frustrated. The most needed upgrade in this team is the midfield.....yet so far, we are ok with spending millions upon millions everywhere else in the squad, EXCEPT for where it's needed most.
Hopefully you are right and this is only a move to get a good squad player, and the best is yet to come (i believe it is). But even so, it's frustrating that we will spend 5/6mil on this guy who is in his 30s, and give him 2-3 year deal of a couple mil at least I'm imagining.......and if he only IS playing a sub role, than we might as well give that "sub role" to a younger player who can grow and improve and perhaps become a starter in the future.......even if initially we may have to pay more in a transfer fee. (let's say Paredes as an example, or Coric)
I wouldn't mind getting Sosa as long as the other midfielder we buy is Kovacic, Paredes, Andre Gomes, or someone of that caliber. We have Kucka, Bertolacci, and even Montolivo to rotate in so I think Sosa and another quality midfielder might suffice. Of course, if I had to choose, I would get 2 more midfielders in addition to Sosa.
By getting Pjaca, Sosa, Kovacic, Paredes, and Mussachio in addition to Lapadula, I think we have a competitive squad that can easily fight for a top 5 finish. But like I said before, its the depth that concerns me. Players will no doubt get injured or suspended, so we need to make sure we can have reliable options on the bench. Our fullback positions are covered, along with our center back positions (this is all assuming we buy the players I mentioned before), so its just our midfield and attack that concerns me. Our only reliable back up in the midfield is Kucka, and that concerns me. Same goes for our attack. At this point, I would assume our trident will consist of Bonaventura, Lapadula, and Pjaca, and it looks like Niang will be the only back up. When we buy our starters, we need to start thinking about increasing our squad depth, or the players will run out of gas in the second half of the season.
One more thing. A back up for Donnarumma is a must. I have no doubt he will be a top goalkeeper in the future, but even all top goalkeepers have backups. The back up doesn't even have to be a star player, someone like Sirigu will even suffice. I do not want to see a Primavera keeper become the back up for Donnarumma, even though Donnarumma was just in the Primavera team before last season :p
