Matchday 12: Palermo - Milan (Sunday, November 6 - 15:00 CET)

This is another game from which we should really be getting the full 3 points. Palermo only has 6 points from 11 games and I have long lost count of who is coaching this team and which good players they have at the moment. I remember just 8-9 years ago that matches against Palermo were actually fairly difficult for us but now Palermo is just a constant running joke.

Called up players and news to follow! Do we have any new injuries to be concerned about?

Another 15:00 game! Hopefully we can just humiliate that constant running joke called Palermo.

Some positive news ahead of this match is Mati Fernandez and Antonelli are back to give a little more depth.

Bacca is also risking the bench after his latest outburst and Lapadula could start.

Lapadula SHOULD start imo. Not only because of Bacca's outburst, but i feel like he hasn't really gotten a chance. He's worked hard and kept a positive attitude, and it's not like Bacca is on fire at the moment.

True. I will be happy to see Lapadula start. He has earned the right.

Put Bacca in for the lat 2 mins just to fuk with him. Haha

But really, this joker plays 85 mins, has a crap game, and gets mad at being taken out in the 86th minute. What should the player that gets in at the 86th minute do than? Get in a fistfight with Montella? Bacca should see how that feels...than, maybe, he will have the right to complain. But not when you play almost the entire game, especially ineffectively, and being taken out. You can't complain than because you come off as a little asshole...

Lapadula to start and Bacca to come in at the half if things aren't going well for us. That said, Palermo are a shadow of themselves. I just hope that they don't rebound against us, as most teams somehow tend to do.

Backing our boys to take care of business this round. Only a win will do.
We got the young 'un's. We take out big gunz  Devilcool

Bacca came in as a sub against Sampdoria (64'), he scored the winner.
He came in as a sub again when we played Chievo (88'), he scored again! well, it was credited as an own goal officially.
I think it is a great idea we should just use him as a sub. I bet that he will score again!

Football-Italia Preview

Quote:Palermo host third-placed Milan and are attempting to avoid a fifth consecutive defeat.

Despite having played their last match on Halloween, Palermo’s 2-1 away loss to Cagliari will not have come as much of a shock, with the Rosanero in the midst of a poor run of form, not having won since September 21. Even so, Roberto De Zerbi’s men will be disappointed by their last two defeats, which came against opponents placed 15th and 16th in the table at the time of playing.

Milan appeared still to be suffering from a Juventus-induced hangover in their Week 11 clash against Pescara, relying on a wily free kick from Giacomo Bonaventura to earn three points. Although undoubtedly a marked improvement from the 3-0 reverse at Genoa, the level of play was nowhere near the standard that, prior to the trip to Liguria, had seen Il Diavolo pick up 15 points from six matches.

Both teams are currently facing something of an injury crisis with De Zerbi only able to pick from two senior strikers due to injuries to Aleksandar Trajkovski, Accursio Bentivegna and Norbert Balogh. Furthermore, first choice centre-back Giancarlo Gonzalez and new signing Slobodan Rajkovic are not yet deemed match fit, despite recently resuming training.

Milan are currently suffering through a shortage of central midfielders, the most high-profile injury being to club captain Riccardo Montolivo’s cruciate ligament, while Andrea Bertolacci and Matias Fernandez have been unavailable all season. Coach Vincenzo Montella’s selection pool is also limited in the full-back positions with Luca Antonelli, Davide Calabria and Leonel Vangioni problems meaning that there are no senior back-ups to Ignazio Abate and Mattia De Sciglio.

Montella is unlikely to make too many changes to the team that beat Pescara, although the returning Gabriel Paletta, following a one-match suspension, is likely to replace Gustavo Gomez at centre back. It remains to be seen whether M’Baye Niang should recover from the symptoms of flu that had him off his game on Sunday, with an alternative being the introduction of Juraj Kucka in central midfield to allow Bonaventura to fill Niang’s role.

De Zerbi is likely to ring the changes, modifying his 4-3-3 formation into a more defensive 4-5-1, with Ivaylo Chochev and Alessandro Diamanti replacing Robin Quaison and Carlos Embalo as the wide players. Alessandro Gazzi may come in for Mato Jajalo to play a more defensive midfield role, whilst Edoardo Goldaniga may be preferred to Sinisa Andelkovic at centre back.

Having scored in his last two matches, Ilija Nestorovski will be tasked with providing an outlet for a defensively set out Palermo team. However, he faces a worthy adversary in Milan’s 17-year-old goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, who has rescued his side many times already this season. The contest between these two will be vital if Palermo are to have any hope of ending their run of four defeats on the bounce.

The Sicilians have lost six of their last eight meetings with Milan, home and away, with a lone 2-0 victory at San Siro in November 2014 and 2-2 draw at the Barbera in October 2012. The Rossoneri are unbeaten in this Serie A fixture since a 1-0 in March 2011.

Keep an eye on: Giacomo Bonaventura (Milan) - Against Pescara the versatile Italy international was undoubtedly the star of Milan’s outfield players, with his goal a just reward for the hard work he put in. The possible absence of Niang means that Montella is likely to push Bonventura forward against Palermo into his favoured left-wing position, where he can have even more of a creative influence than from his recent role in central midfield.

Form Guide: Palermo (L L L L D) Milan (W L W W W)

Last season: Palermo 1-2 Milan

Stat fact: If Milan score in this fixture, it will mark their 100th goal against Palermo in Serie A.

Top tip: Given Palermo’s status as the second-worst defensive team in the league, this match may be a prime opportunity for Carlos Bacca to break his goal drought.

Palermo (probable): Posavec; Rispoli, Goldaniga, Cionek, Aleesami; Hiljemark, Gazzi, Henrique; Diamanti, Chochev; Nestorovski

Suspended: None

Milan (probable): Donnarumma; Abate, Paletta, Romagnoli, De Sciglio; Kucka, Locatelli, Sosa; Suso, Bacca, Bonaventura

Suspended: None

Looks like Niang is still suffering flu, so is set to sit this one out with Bonaventura further up and Pasalic (looking likely to win the run off with Sosa and Mati Fernandez) taking the third spot in midfield.

I'd keep Bacca on the bench, even if his frustration was purely because he didn't score. However, this needs to be communicated with him too, and apparently he and Montella haven't spoken of the incident last week.
