The Toy DB

Thanks Carlos, really appreciate the feedback, it means a lot to me. My son's the same, loves his hot wheels, though he does go through phases where he does thankfully play with the more expensive stuff! Big Grin

We've uploaded another article today about the success of Disney's Frozen and its toy line. As always, feedback or any activity on the site would be welcomed:

Also, just to share some news, we've been stalling a little to make formal announcements on the site lately as there were a number of factors and circumstances that prevented us from doing so. However, I can happily say we're in a position where we will be pushing on this week. I've got a number of social media outlets set up and ready and will look to post links to them here.

In addition, I'm aware that obviously activity on the site has been generally minimal, mostly that visitors will generally only see the odd new article every few days. Again, we will be aiming to provide much more regular updates on the site following the announcement.

Thanks again for everyone's support!

So here are my two cents. Apart from my music work, I am a partner in a business that sells lifestyle products, borderline luxurious. So we started with a lot of blogging, a pretty site and a very functional store on it. We didn't just want to sell, we wanted to create a lot of great content but much to my dismay I realized people do not really like to read. Especially young people (My Primary audience is 17-30 mostly).

Then I devised a rather elaborate social media strategy (Instagram and Youtube) and created content for that. Then we did infographics, memes and such things and things really blew up then. We've had good success and it only seems it is gonna grow from here.

So even if you are not selling anything, I'd heartily recommend you spend A LOT of time working on Instagram, Snapchat and Youtube. Forget Facebook, it's useless and driving traffic to your site via it, is very difficult and not worth the return (unless you have a 100,000 likes already and a dedicated fan following). And whatever you create, please put your logo on everything coz people will steal that shit any chance they get.

The hardest part for me is finding great programmers and graphic designers to work with, as the site keeps growing ha ha but I guess those are welcome problems.

Thanks Hasan, really appreciate it. Hopefully it can start growing.

Thanks Somedevil, your input is actually really useful as by admission marketing is a weak point for us as none of us have a background in marketing. On the positive, our approach to social media seems to be similar to what you said, as we want to make use of the sites you mentioned. We have a Facebook page, but it won't get any extra priority over other forms of social media.

Right now, we don't have the facility to create much on Youtube ourselves, though we hope to change that soon

Honestly man, for Youtube all you need is a phone and a decent lighting setup which you could put together yourself. As much as I hate the hassle of making videos, YouTube, snapchat, Instagram stories are a must. I started doing Instagram stories last month and there is a significant rise in sales.

People really like to watch that shit. I'd love to write out blogposts etc but the reality is that people don't like to read anymore. And you are in such a wonderful niche, there is so much you can do and I am sure with time ideas will bombard your brain.

Thanks Somedevil. On Youtube, we have the intention to become active on it, it's just we can't do it immediately. I agree with your point though, today people aren't too keen on just reading, which is a challenge most media on the net face now.

On that note, if anyone has any ideas on what they would like to see us do, whether it be on the site, social media, particularly things like Youtube, please do share and I will see what is possible for us.

I hate the word and I hate to say it, but clickbait unfortunately is the answer to creating readable content nowadays. People just like those absolutely bullshit "3 things you never knew about xyz" type articles.

I think it's pathetic but that's what works. See HuffPo, B/R or the despicable Buzzfeed. That shit is shared on FB all day long. So your latest blog post would be "4 ways your child's toys are influencing their behavior." or "You don't realize how toys are affecting the way your kid behaves".

Or "5 Robot toys your kid can't say no to". I am sure you get my gist.

Also a tiny suggestion. Change the 'Articles' in the menu to Blog. Articles sounds a lot more serious, like I am supposed to take notes or something :Big Grin

While I am at it, one more thing. I love the look of your site but I am an old school Internet fella who likes IRC. If I was you, I'd make it more 'fun looking'. mere colorful with slideshows and fun images. and I'd definitely stick that Toy Chart thing on the main page. People love ranks and top of the pop charts.

Thanks again reza and somedevil.

On your points, we have plans to put in place a lot of that, but we have to schedule time to do all the developments. Due to various circumstances (in our personal lives), this makes getting the time to do this difficult. For the moment, we just focus on trying to get some time online to simply establish ourselves a little. We're in this for the long game though, so we have a roadmap on features we want to add over time.

That's said, I really appreciate the feedback and the points you raise are really valuable, the one about structuring titles definitely being a very good point.
