Matchday 33: Milan - Empoli (Sunday, April 23, 2017 - 15:00 CET)

I have no hope for that, but a 3rd place could be possible in this scenario for us or for Lazio, because Roma has a terrible end of a season to play :
Pescara - Roma
Roma - Lazio
Milan - Roma
Roma - Juventus
Chievo - Roma
Roma - Genoa

Just imagine 3 losses against Lazio, Milan and Juventus. It would be a kind of crisis for them and games against teams like Chievo and Genoa who play for nothing could suddenly be difficult for them !

Just kidding of course ...

So stop laughing at Juventus !

we are 14 points away from Roma, which means that Roma needs to lose 4 games and draw 1 within 6 games. Big Grin

Whatever you guys are smoking..... I'll have what you're having Tongue
All this talk is way too optimistic here. I'll be happy if we make 4th place ahead of Merda with our semi-homegrown team.
Europa League may seem a bit of a let-down, but I feel like we need to slowly ease ourselves back into Europe. I don't want us to fall at the first hurdle (i.e. the knockout round before the group stages) against top 4 league teams just because our seeding now isn't as good compared to what it was 5 years ago... not to mention that winning an EL now means automatic entry into the CL anyway..... Big Grin

Do you intend we should try to get the only trophy Milan doesn't have and end 5th of Serie A next season to allow Serie A to have 5 teams in CL ? Sagrin

Why not? More places for Italy, the better.  Devilcool
I think Juve, Roma, Napoli aside, Us and Lazio definitely deserve to have a shot at it.  Sagrin

I think the rules are that Serie A gets 4 CL spots at the max next year. Meaning that if Milan finish 5th and win the EL, whoever finishes 4th will be out of luck and will have to play in the EL. Imagine if that is Inter! Big Grin

On a more serious note, I agree that we have absolutely ZERO realistic chance of being 3rd. Our schedule is more "suitable" to get 4th than Inter's and Lazio's however, and although Atalanta has a similar schedule to ours. we still have a head-to-head with them. So 4th place is very realistic at this point. We don't even have to get points from Roma as long as we get points from the rest of the games, starting with Empoli obviously.

Getting 4th would mean that we go straight into the group stages of the EL, right? That would be massive as it would mean that we don't have to worry about playing competitive games in July and starting our pre-season 2-3 weeks earlier that normal. That can be very demanding on the players, especially at the end of next season.

I don't go to San Siro for the first time in my life to see us lose against Roma ! No way !
I will curse you forever for this result if it happens ! Ahah

Oh man, I'm sorry!!! In that case, we will definitely beat Roma! Big Grin That will make everything easier.

I've been to the San Siro twice......twice Milan lost! I am in the works of trying to make it there again next year and hopefully catch the derby or the Juve game. Maybe I'll finally witness a win!

Either way, the 6th place is ours to lose. I don't think Inter will get more than 15 points, MAXIMUM, and that's me being very generous. The more likely outcome is 12 points for them out of the 18 available! They still have to play Fiorentina, Lazio, Napoli, Sassuolo. On top of that, a game away to Genoa is not going to be easy. Juric is back and they will be physical as hell just like how they were in the first part of the season.

So as long as we get 12 points out of the 18 possible, I think we will keep the 6th position. No games are easy I know....but it's much more "convenient" to finish the season with Empoli, Crotone, Bolona, Cagliari as opposed to Inter's schedule of Fioreinta, Lazio, Napoli, Sassuolo.

Montolivo played for over an hour last week with the Primavera team. He might be called up this time.

Apparently we scored 12 in the final 15 minutes this season, earning us 14 points... while Empoli conceded 11 in the final 15 and 23 in the final 30 minutes.
