We can not afford to hold a line of 5 across the midfield when we have to ball and expect to be dangerous, which is what we've done the couple of times we've lined up with a 3-5-2. We'd have Kessie-Baka-Hakan in the midfield all in their respective sides and nobody moving between the lines for a vertical pass. That limited our wingbacks and never allowed them the opportunity to move up and give us width because every vertical pass we attempted was a hopeful ball to a striker with a man on his back. If you have Zlatan that can hold up the ball against 2 defenders, ok, that can work. But it won't work with Cutrone up there.
