Secondly all the players we talked about were on the bench, if you are on the bench and someone gets injured after 5 minutes you must be physically ready to play 85min, 'not ready' is a bad excuse to be honest, especially for a player with match kit on on the bench.

I'm not saying they weren't fit. On the contrary, I think they are and Giampaolo knows that. It's more of a psychological "game" if you wanna look at it that way. I can see why he is doing it to be honest.
Take a look at the following example:
Calhanoglu trains for 8 weeks under Giampaolo. In comes Bennaecer for 5 training sessions, and you have a game. Who do you play? Yes, I know...the better player should play. And 99.9999% of the time he will. But this is that 0.0001% when that might not be the case. You are a new coach and you want credibility with the group. You wanna practice what you preach. You want players to buy into the philosophy and bust their ass. So you have a player that's done that for 8 weeks. You are going to drop him for a player that JUST joined the squad? You could, but that could backfire big time. You risk losing that player's head and losing credibility with the squad.

As I said, eventually, the best players will play. When I say eventually, I mean within a couple games. It's not like this will last for months. But Giampaolo is rewarding certain players for their work and commitment this summer, and that will get him a long way with the group.

We are less suited to a 433, so I don't know what a change in formation will do for us...

We spent 8 weeks working with 4312. Are we seriously ready to give up that quickly??? A 4321 is fine. I can live with that. Better that then Samu on the field again. But the 2 behind the striker have to be fluid and move all across the hole and not become wingers after 20 minutes.
But 433? Please no!

These players saw the difference between CL and no CL being less than the 3 points lost in week 1. They have had their chance, this is a new coach and new day. New team must kick off from week 1. I still disagree.
Sorry to sound like I am pushing it but we are just debating Smile

I don't necessarily disagree. I think we all wanna see the best players play. But these things happen in the first few games. Juventus didn't start a single new signing either. They just happened to win their game.

I know we can't compare right now, but it's a similar situation.

You can't pursue 3 points by risking the whole season.

If we are going to play with two behind Piatek, Jack needs to play. We underestimate hoe creative he is and how he is much better at getting in the box and scoring than Hakan.

Bonaventura is more all round player and will contemplate much better with Suso and Piatek.

Well, the next game could be very important for our mercato : if Giampaolo uses the Christmas Tree formation (4-3-2-1) with Piatek alone forward and if it works, we won't need any new striker, as we will have Leao and André Silva (hum ... our new Bertolacci ?) as replacements.

That means M&B have to be ready with 2 new players in their pocket with only one to officialize before the end of the mercato : a CM or ACM and a striker (let's be realistic, we won't get 2 or 3 players suddenly).

4-3-2-1 :
- Bennacer/Biglia, Paqueta, Kessie/Krunic, and Calhanoglu (I think he's important for depth and needs to be kept this season) for the "3" positions. That's enough.
- Suso, Bonaventura and Calhanoglu for the "2" position ... A player could be needed there if we don't want to see Castillejo playing there when Suso will be injured and Bonaventura too tired because of his long injury.

4-3-1-2 :
- Same for the "3" positions and for the "1" position, enough unless we want someone better than Suso as our main ACM
- Piatek, Leao and André Silva for the "2" positions, that's not enough if we don't want to see Castillejo ever playing in attack again in Milan !

The pressure is on Giampaolo there, because his choice for the formation and the results/way to play will probably give a lot of information to M&B ...

PS : Bonaventura will be our most important player once he will be fit again ... He has it all, and will score 6-7 goals if put in the right conditions.
One should not speak ill of the dead.
So stop laughing at Juventus !

4321 is effectively 433 when u field Hakan and Suso. Suso definitely will tend to go wide. I would say stick to 4312 and field our best players. Bench Suso. Suso... smh

This is a very interesting game. Our firs home match. Also we will be playing against Balotelli and last season's Serie B's best striker Alfredo Donnarumma (Not related to Gigi) who scored 25 goals. Now i know that was in Serie B, still i think he will be quite dangerous. Specially pairing with Balotelli. No matter what, Balotelli is still a skilled player.

I agree that benching Suso would be the best option at the moment. I just don't think it'll happen.

Anyway, about this game...a big win will go a long way here. First home game of the season, a large (50k+) crowd expected, following a tereible first game vs Udinese......we can not disappoint our fans at San Siro again. Inter had 65k supporters over the weekend. Obviously that has a lot to do with the enthusiasm of the market and Conte, but they won big and that keeps the enthusiasm going after the initial excitement due to the market.
We on the other hand don't have market excitement. Big Grin We even looked terrible in the first game and lost. So a good win here can get those 50k coming back and maybe even in more numbers next time.

Brescia is a tough opposition. If Udinese beat us, Brescia would be the more problematic one
