Another reason would be, we dont have a good replacement for him on the bench. I dont want to field bennacer there. Only option, as far as i can see, is Krunic. But then again havent seen him play yet. From the comments made about the player here, he doesnt seem to be much of an upgrade to kessie
There was plenty of brainfarts offensively. Simple passes. But I WILL say...he wasn't the worst. Not sure if that's good or bad.
In any case, I think a midfield of Bonaventura-Bennacer-Paqueta is the best option for us. All players technically gifted and able to get out of pressure with either a dribble, quick passing exchanges and speed of thought. This is what modern football is about. We have the players to execute this. Maybe not to the highest (CL) levels, but certainly for 95% of the games in Serie A.
You put Kessie in there, and you are missing a link. You are giving up a midfield spot to someone who hasn't done anything in possession for 2 years. I get the fact that he is physical. I get the fact that he is not bad defensively. But that's just not enough. We need to dominate games. And we will only be able to do that by playing a technical midfield able to simply "say"...."Give me the ball under any circumstance, pressure or not. I am your outlet, trust me."
I don't trust Kessie with the ball even if the nearest pressing player i 10 yards away from him, let alone tight spaces. Let's not even talk about his decision making in the final 3rd.....because it's honestly been a loooooong time that I've seen a player with shocking decisions like that.
At the end of the day, I guess can live with Kessie in the midfield. Just remove Hakan-Biglia. But removing all 3 would be ideal.
