I agree with you. 8.7km seems decent but definitely not that impressive. In this situation, it is not so much of a compliment on the 38-year-old; it looks more like an embarrassment of the 24-year-old. 

I also wonder if it has to do with the position. My guess (without data backing up) is midfielders or fullbacks tend to run more?

I saw some numbers for PL:
9,6 km for forwards
11,5 km for midfielders
10,5 km for defenders

Not sure if this was an average or taken from a single match. But it shows that covered km has to do with position also.

Wow, that's a lot of running. In my memory of Serie A in the old days, any one that ran more than 10 km in a game was considered to be impressive. Maybe it is just PL; or maybe time has changed. 

Anyway, back to the game. Ibrahimovic's deflected shot left Sirigu helpless, but we got only a corner. In the meantime, Samu seemed injured.
