Doesnt matter that I repeat myself. Modern football causes Adli having to cover Muriel in (almost) middle of our box, this is fundamentally ridiculous regardless of Adli's effort or quality.

A game of football puts you in different situations. It's not "a modern football" thing. It's always happened. Players cover space at times and at others man mark. All depending on the situations. Of course, the situation you described is not ideal. But it's a situation that had to be dealt with. Doesn't matter if you are a CB, RB, CM or a CF. You mark the fuking player that's free in the box and that you picked up, by whatever caused that to happen. You follow and you mark in the box. It's basics in football. And he recognized that. He was there. But didn't react. Didn't fight. Didn't do what needed to be done. And it was the 3rd big mistake by him in 5 minutes that he played. He almost gave away a penalty too by being late with the cover and marking.

Nef I get what you are saying but this system is broken. I have to agree with Teza. There is zero reason Adli should be defending a pass that deep right in front of Maignan. Even with double coverage those are high percentage positions.

This system both offensively and defensively is broken. Not sure what keeping Pioli benefits this team anymore beyond further alienate key players (Theo) or put in just shambolic performances.

I say "modern football" in a half silly way. Different situations should prevent Adli being 'stuck' in that position, just my opinion

I don't disagree with this one bit. See my post at half time about the defensive performance of this team. We give away way too much space, and we give away way too many clear cut chances. That is 10000000% on Pioli and his system (if we can call it that). 

BUT, players have to read basic football situations. Your defense is out of shape, everyone is out of shape, you see a player free in thr box, you pick him up. After that, you can argue with your teammates about the terrible situation they put you in. But at that moment, you cover that player. Adli saw the player, but his effort to cover was not worthy of a player that should play for us, and definitely not worthy of a player that wants more minutes. 

Same situation happened on the 2nd goal woth Theo, and I commented on it as well. He saw Lookman. But the effort to get back and track, to at least make it difficult,  was not worthy. It was embarrassing. 

There were a ton of situations today where pur players didn't put in enough effort. And effort should be a given. We can be worse than another team technically,  tactically, etc. But effort? What's the excuse there? The effort to defend against PSG after going 2-1 up was insane. To get down and dirty. To block shots. To work for one another. But, I guess not against Atalanta. How is it possible that Scalvini, an Atalanta CB sprints into our attacking 3rd to chaise a ball, gets down into a 50/50 tackle against Tomori and wins it, gets right up and gets into a 50/50 challenge against Calabria and wins it, and with every last bit of strength he has, he forces a great save out of Maignan. How is that possible? He wanted it more. Lookman wanted it more. 

That's all i'm saying. And while Pioli should GTFO of Milan ASAP....some of the players need to look in the mirror.

Agree on this.

Players and Pioli are to blame. A lot of our players make ridiculous mistakes.
