View Full Version : Important! Posting Rules and Guidelines

Now, this might seem a bit much now, but soon after the glow of our Champion's League, League and Cup success fades we will all be hearing and reading a ton of transfer rumours and even reading some legitimate transfer news. Therefore, I am going to post a few tips and guidelines to help make this forum easy to navigate and a pleasure to read ;) .

1. READ BEFORE YOU POST!
Is your particular rumour or report already posted here? If so add your own personal 2 cents to that thread. Do not open a new thread on the same subject. Your new thread will get merged. It will still be there and people will still be able to read your insights, but it will just be in the proper place.

2. Give A Source For Your Information
All good journalists give credit to their sources and so should you! If you read a rumour about Milan picking up Zinedine Zidane and Ronaldo for three rocks and a donkey and want to post it here, go right ahead, just mention from whence you got this information. If you heard it from your cousing Giuseppe from Bologna who is a pal of the head man of the Fossa de Leone, mention who you got the rumour from. If you read it on the website www.sillytransfernews.com, mention your source. If you were having dinner with Berlusconi last night and he whispered to you that, "We are getting Chivu and Mexes, please pass the salt." Mention that too. Giving the source of your informtion can help others to decide what weight to give said information, and it is only common courtesy to mention where you've gotten something from.

3. THINK!
Does this rumour or piece of news have anything to do with Milan? Sure the fact that a big name English Premier League player perhaps going to La Liga could in theory affect Milan, but does the possible transfer of some Albanian winger who plays for Energie Cottbus or a superstar from the J League have anything to do with Milan? Think about it before posting, and if your mental answer is "No", then post it in General Soccer and not in Transfers.

If you try youir very best to follow there simple guidelines, you will find this Forum easier to read and navigate, and your life (and ours) much more pleasant. Right now, we are all occupied with thinking about the scudetto, CL final and Coppa final to be spending much time cleaning up this Forum, but whence the time comes to do it, we shall. So any help you can give us will be greatly appreciated. Transfer season is always exciting and fun (and usually good for our team--hello Rui, Rivaldo, Pirlo, Nesta, Sheva to name a few). And you can help make it more exciting and fun, by folowing these few simple guidelines. Be courtious, be kind, be intelligent and be cool. Forza Milan!

Hats off the Mods...for their dedication .. and the rules which hopefully will be followed

There are about half-a-dozen threads in this forum dealing with ridiculus rumors which can't even be classed as Fantacalcio.

The mods shud do something to ensure that these don't get too long and instead open threads about legitimate transfers that are in the process of negotiation or have a realistic chance of happening... its best for this forum.

Thanks for the suggestion...I agree however this is the hardest section to organize as rumors of all types are posted. We shall see what we can do.

I don't want to the nagging "anal retentive" moderator but this section is always the most confusing and "dizzying". Please for all of us and to keep things somewhat organized:

1. Could we avoid the one word threads
example: Cassano??????????????!!!!!
(What are you trying to say? A Cassano rumor? Cassano is linked to Milan? Juve? Please be precise but to the point).

2. Avoid giving us heart attacks and cardiac arrests with thread titles such as:
SHEVA TO REAL. Then reading it states "what would you think if Sheva were to be sold to Real? Would you be angry?"
This leads to my other point:

3. Avoid posting questions or opinions in the transfer thread. The above post is a question...it would not belong in the transfer thread.

4. Lets try to avoid the far fetched rumors please: i.e. "Beckham, Roberto Carlos, Cannavaro AND Totti to MILAN."
Try to have a reliable and somewhat credible source rather than as Rio stated "www.sillysoccernews.com"

Sorry to be a nag but it gets more dizzying everytime I see this forum!

Thank you PEOPLE...keep up the good work..you know who you are.

With the season ending and the summer upon us, we are entering what we fondly call the Silly Season. Yes, I mean transfer season. In light of the fact this place goes NUTS with transfer talk and rumor, we mods and admins would like to remind everyone of a few things.

1. READ BEFORE YOU POST. If there is already a topic about the player you want to talk about POST THERE!

2. ONLY ONE TOPIC PER PLAYER PLEASE. Multiple threads on the same player WILL BE MERGED TOGTHER. Please note—we won’t delete topics, we will merge them together. We do not need 5 rumor topics on any one player. So if you create a new topic and it seems to vanish, then look in for another topic on that player and you’ll find your post there. The first or the older topic will be the one we keep and merge into.

3. Whether you are posting actual news or simply another rumor, please include the source. If it’s from a Web site, post the URL, preferably to the article so everyone can read it.

I want to point out thatif the pop up of new threads , some unnecessary, will continue these threads will be deleted in order to finish with this annoying phenomenon , even though there are a lot of old ones below about the same argument:

The users *dil dil* and *shevaandkakà* are kindly invited to check a couple of pages below before posting a new thread; due to technical reasons we can't afford to open a thread every supposed new argument therefore try to open a general thread on a player instead of a more specific one
for ex. Instead of " Ronaldinho opens Milan's doors" open a "Ronaldinho" thread where all the news related can be posted..or check if there's one already open!!!!!

If it happens a couple of times ok, the threads will be merged, nobody wants to bother the users, but if it happens day in day out the unnecessary threads will be deleted

I have to say I disagree with merging in news found from other sites into one ridiculously long thread which no one can be bothered starting reading from beginning to end. Why not allow for each news item, if it is reasonably original, to be used as a seperate thread. Within reason of course. If I find something on a website I usually post it here as a new thread, as I tend to ignore the ones with more than three pages unless I was involved when they started.

I guess its because this is meant to be for player transfer news and if some new rumour comes along about, say, Ronaldinho it should go to the Ronaldinho thread. If anybody is interested in following the possibility of Ronaldinho coming he knows what to follow and where to go.

I also don't like really long threads, but the solution is to start from the end for the newest items first. We ask that people NOT start so many threads about one topic simply because people then complain that there are too many threads all alike. It makes the forums look very messy and disorganized. Plus, too many times, people do post the exact same thing, so then you're wasting your time reading the same news item 3 or 4 times. Sorry, but our policy askes for members to read and see if there is an appropriate thread already started. Our stand shall remain that like threads will be merged.

I don't have a problem with that, and it is pretty much what has happened in the past. What we want to achieve though is;

1. As few threads as possible on individual players, especially if they are not Milan players. There is for instance no need for 3 Ronaldino or 3 Mido threads
2. Distinguish between news and rumours. "Milan signs Rivaldo" warrents a new thread, "Ronaldino does not exclude playing for Milan sometime in the future" does not.

In essense we are trying to achieve a situation where new threads add value and that related information is easily found. Any suggestions on guidelines that will help us deliver a better product are much appreciated :)

And let me add something since it just crossed my mind! ALWAYS ALWAYS include the URL and source for any news item you post. The reason--some people like to go read and explore the source, plus if it's from a known rumor-mill we're aware of that right away too! Thank you, merci, gracias, grazie!

The threads fall into categories such as: Discussions/Games and tactics/General football/Players/Transfers, etc.

There is no such designation as :"Gossip and rumors". Often, newspaper people looking for material start some crazy rumor - and it dies two weeks later. There is really no need to start a thread quoting from this kind of "fabricated" gossip. If I had one hair for every player rumored to join Milan or quoted as interested, or empty speculation, I would be an ape today...

There are two official transfer seasons: the summer break plus a few weeks in January. We should exercise self-control, and not deal with any players' movement in and out of Milan but two weeks before the start of the transfer seasons. At all other times, write about the performance of our players, the upcoming games, tactics, or even post photographs and jokes.

Let us leave the "buy everything" mentality fit for teenagers in a mall - also starting new threads by pasting a nonsense gossip copied from a website or a newspaper does not make any member look smart or important.

To clear up the transfer forum a bit, I have merged all posting rules threads into this one. There are now 4 sticky threads in this forum:
1. Official signings
2. Transfer rumors
3. Fantasy signings
4. Posting rules

Let me know if you have any suggestions for improvements :)
