Hi,
Just want to ask if the chatroom is working. some of the MM and I cannot get into it.
Anyone offers help?

It works for me Jeff. I don't know what can be the problem :confused:
I wonder Jeff, because I can't reach it from work, but I can from home.
some questions to ask:
- How hard is your internet security settings?
- Do you have an firewall?
- What operating system do you use?
Personally I think a firewall may be the problem...
Go to www.mirc.com download it and try to reach the chat trough that ;)
One thing to consider also, I know people who can't enter chats like this one and found out that their PC doesn't load java applets properly...if you usually can't load applets then it might be a problem with the java virtual machine on your PC. If thats the case you may need to download the JVM again.
But its only free for 30 days..right? (Mirc programm i mean)

When i searched yesterday it says for Mircprogramm...
"test IRC 30 days for free" and then it says that after that you have to pay :confused:

The Astrolink IRC Network in the past 24 hours has been battling a rather high volume drone attack supposidly originating from familiar P2P clients such as KaZaa. The drones are creating it harder for regular users of the Astrolink IRC Network connect to the network at certain high volume times of the day. Of course, the Astrolink IRC Network is not the only target in this drone attack, the drone source code appears to contain a list of all servers from the much popular IRC client; mIRC.
As a result we have been forced to take evasive action on these drones by permanently banning the following network blocks: 210.0.0.0/24, 202.0.0.0/24, 203.0.0.0/24, 218.0.0.0/24, 61.0.0.0/24 along with other small netblock bans. The drones appear to be running on unidented hosts which has made it possible for any affected users to connect with the banned netblocks using ident. If any of your friends have problems connecting to the network, please tell them to enable ident and make sure it is properly working.

maybe u came in at the wrong time.....usually the 'peak hours' are during on going milan match.....and some members are there during the night my time:D

Jeff and others, if java applets usually load ok for you on the web and in case of IRC programs like mIRC you have done what Paul (pjc) posted and still the chat doesn't work, I will try more to find the solution.
EDIT:
This is the place to go if you have Java applet problems.....find a working link for your operating system http://java-virtual-machine.net/download.html

If you are having problems using the chat and you think its because java applets don't load properly on your machine you can go to Sun's java site (java.sun.com/getjava/ ) to get it. Make sure you download the java virtual machine.

to those who doesnt have java, get in that site rezag gave and it automatically detects the things which ur pc needs and installs it;)

also on the forum index page besides the 'view new posts' there is a link to the Chat
To all those one for who the chat doesn't work: download mIRC (http://www.mIRC.com) and your problem is solved ;)

rezag, ooops i mean chan_serv :D would have spent so much time to create a chat room for us and we are not using it?
it would be great if we all could get into chat and 'chit-chat' down there:D

It is still there, haven't been in it at all either in a long time.

demand only when there is matchday. But I guess the mod. gotta put sorts of advertisement to tell people to go, esp. during match day.
I still remembered, VERY CLEARLY, the day when we played Ajax, 2-2, and all my frds were watching Real vs watever team. (It's the year we won the CL). THen I thought, facing the screen, "This is over for us"... then someone 'shouted' in chat, "INzagggggggggggghi" or something like that,... and it's simply heartbreaking
Bring this again mod!!

I don't know, it seemed like everyone was waiting for someone in authority to say "OK, everyone gather and chat at this time" and that's not something a mod or an admin can decide. Remember we span the globe here!

Thx Goirre, I really appreciate, but as i said, this is one of those 'if you do it it'll be great if you don't it's ok' situation.

No need to get testy about this, OK? I think we explained about chat--if it's set up, use it. Rez will get it going and he'll post about it.
Somehow I don't get, why there is the question for the chat again.
I had checked the chatroom in the last months often enough and it was always empty.
There where times during April/May last year when the chatroom was used by a handfull pple and we chatted just for fun. Then we made the experience from april untill august long enough that the chatroom get emptier more and more. And let me tell you, also during the matches.
In the beginning 1 or 2 pple in the chatroom which where able to listen or watch the game tried to post in the chat and same time in the game-thread. But that experience also failed, because those pple prefered to post about the currently game in the special game-threads to inform everyone about the matches. And what can be easier as to read about the game in those special threads?
So I don't really see a reason to bring the chatroom back again, especially when most user/pple. really prefer to post in the game-threads. When I want to be informed about the current match, I always go and read what pple are posting about it. And I think, those pple there made such a good job, that everybody is informed good enough how we play and about the result.
Well, that's just my oppinion, because I saw and recognized, that the expierence about the chatroom failed.
But when the admins really want to bring the chat again, ok.
As long as the chatroom will be used by a lot of users, fine. But when no one (or maybe just 2-3 pple) may use it, there should be no doubt for shut it down. Definately.
I have re-added the IRC chat, look at the top menu for 'chat' where there are two options to use the chat on the forums (in a new window or in a popup) you may also use an IRC client such as mIRC at www.mirc.co.uk to enter the chat, if you use the client you should use the following:
server: irc.astrolink.org
port: 6667
channel: #ac
If you encounter a java security window while entering via the forums you should click 'yes'
If the java applet doesn't load and you get a red square in the grey area of the chat page you MAY need to download or update the 'java virtual machine' from http://www.java.com/en/download
If you have questions or see any problems with the chat post it here.

Went to the sun site and it automatically prompted you to update java? but still errors? and nothing like the red square thing I described?
I'll try to see what can be done... but I hope to see some actually get in using the link here so I know its not just me that can get in :D perhaps game time on Wednesday?

I know no one will like this, I am really sorry.
I read the support thread of the script (658 replies) and there is an issue with this particular script that affects ONLY those trying to access it via internet explorer and requires the end user (you) to edit one line of one file on your PC...mine was working on Mozilla so I didn't notice the "Unable to connect:Null..." error until I tried it on internet explorer.
So my question is I can post it and its just one line to change but how many can, are comfortable and are willing to do it?
I have no problem editing code, just let me know what i need to change and i'll do it :)
I'll post it in a bit and in the meanwhile have my eyes open for other chat options I guess.
Just a reminder to others interested .....using mIRC and other IRC software (like Trillian for example) is no problem and works perfectly fine as do other browsers (3 I have tested... Mozilla, Firefox and Opera)
With everything like this always have to start by saying becareful if you are making even the smallest changes to a file on your PC, make a backup by copying the file to your desktop before you do anything else...you can re-use the file backed up on your desktop if something goes wrong even for a simple change like this...
After doing the download at www.java.com/en/download as mentioned a few posts above (you may not need it but it is not supposed to download anything if your files are up to date so it doesn't hurt to start there), browse to the folder \program files\java\your_latest_java_version\lib\security\
(should be \Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_04\lib\security)
open the file "java.policy" that is in that security folder using a text editor, for example Windows notepad or any other text editor but not MSWORD (right click on the file and choose 'open with...' a list comes up, scroll down and choose 'NOTEPAD', click OK)
In there you find a line:
permission java.net.SocketPermission "localhost:1024-", "listen";
replace that one line only with all of the following
// permission java.net.SocketPermission "localhost:1024-", "listen";
permission java.security.AllPermission;
permission java.net.SocketPermission "127.0.0.1:1024-", "accept, connect, listen, resolve";
permission java.net.SocketPermission "72.8.29.1:1024-", "accept, connect, listen, resolve";
permission java.net.SocketPermission "localhost:1024-", "accept, connect, listen, resolve";
save the file and you should be ok with using the chat with internet explorer
Again I hope this is easy for most I will be looking for other alternatives in any case, remember this doesn't apply to everybody here so it doesn't mean everybody needs to do what I have posted, try the chat it might work for you with no problems

and then I saw the thing about lowercase, so I registered a new account, "xzero", and that one works fine with the chat. But I don't wanna switch from one User to the other just to chat, any idea about what's going on?
That one I have never seen, I guess thats another issue with this chat...I'll try to find out about this as well

Yes, I set up that poll in the members lounge to see why the current one is not being used, if its not being used because of the technical issue and someone has a suggestion for a chat they have seen somewhere or know about post it and I'll take a look to see if it can be used on MM

Hey guys, I took two years of classes in C++, but unfotunately I'm not too familiar with Java, so I don't know how it all works. I wouldn't know even if it were in C++, this is to advanced for me :dontkn: ! Anyways, I had an idea, I don't know if the chatroom has a counter in there, some integer showing how many peeps are in the chat room, but would it bepossible to display that int on the main MM screen? That way we know if there is someone in the chat room, and hopefully it will encourage more people to try out the chat room.
Say now, there's an idea...if we had someone technical enough to actually create a chat for us. There had been someone here a couple years ago who had created a real simple one... :funpc:

If the chatroom was fixed, who would use it ? It's great to have if there are lots of people using it, but hardly anyone does ... which is a shame. I thought it would be ideal for match days, when there are sometimes 20 or more people online (even if they're not posting) .... but getting them to use the chatroom is something else entirely.

I shall use it for sure, because these days I had a problem with my own PC, which broke down irreparably, so I do not have a opportunity to use MSN messanger or Skype to chat with some mates of our forum. MM chat would ideal chance to do that. Regarding that I usually use my university computers which are brand new and very fast, comapring to those which my university had last year or earlier [I could not use chat because of slowliness that time].
Guys, how are for getting our MM chat repaired, please share your point of view here. ;)
