Greece losing is a joke, maybe the success at the Euros got to their head.
The notable result for me is Italy and apparently it was a good performance as well
I will try to post some other groups standings as the games go on.
The Serbia and Montenegro result is probably of some interest here ;)
Whats wrong with Belgium? As far as NTs go Belgium is one of the teams that I follow and like but they are really poor these days...

hey i'm really glad italy actualy won and played a good game at the same time!
who knew they would beat norway?and without all of the stars?
although i'm 100% italian i still thought italy would suffer(and they did in the first 5 min.)

Althought they did struggle at first, Lippi told them to stay calm and thats what they did.
Good to see De Rossi scoring. I expect to see more of him in years to come.

I think Italy benefited missing the "stars". For some reason when they play for Italy, they all act like pre madonnas and I believe this is one of the Italy sides biggest faliures in recent years (not to say that a manager like Trap doesn't deserve most of the blame though).

I was disappointed by Ukraine, they gave Sheva one good ball in 45 minutes: actually i watched just the second half of denmark-ukraine, but i thought they were better side. The tactic was long ball hoping in a magical play of the King of the Black Sea.
Denmark instead keep playing a free flowing and choral football, involving all the players. Very good!

I agree Dev. I have a good feeling about Lippi though. So far he seems to have picked the best players for the moment over the standard (Trap) selection.

FRANCE 0 - 0 ISRAEL :zany: :grinser: :grinser:
Expect Ireland to get through in group 4. we have a great group of players we won 3 nil yesterday against cyrus creating 30 goal scoring chances. in recent friendlies we have drawn with brazil and beaten the czech republic an holland. andy reid (yesterday was his 1st competive match he wa man of match and scored a great goal, overall he has played 10 matches for ireland, 2 goals and 3 times man of match) and damian duff create havoc out on the wings. robbie keane at 24 yesterday equalled our all time scoring record. and ROY KEANE is back. he didnt play yesterday because of broken ribs but he is playing wednesday against the swiss away. They and france who drew 0-0 at home to irasel yesterday are there for the taking. irasel could be a suprise package though.
Also as regards italy glad to see they won yesterday, hope they qualify in style and have a good showing in the world cup following the euro 2004 debacle.
Also how is matterazzi still in the side!?
I guess Albania is the team to beat these days  :D
I said it before in the Euro2004 thread, Greece will find it very difficult to win with those tactics when they now are considered "favourits".
Austria-England 2-2
What a game by David James! :grinser: What a blunder! :grinser: :zany:
Commentators of Eurosport : James got new nickname : "Calamity James"! :grinser:

:sob:
Happened the thing that should happen, it was inavitable... Do you remember when we were in the fourth decade in world rating 8 or 6 years ago???
Despite the fantastic goal 'a la Beckham' by Wesley Sonck, Belgian them was not the rival who can humilate our NT. Which fought like a great beast and gained their aim - draw.
Now, look out San Marino!!!! :fero: We are hungry, though you are small! :fero:firedev:
Btw, I shall be back home by the time they play, and hope to support our heroes in stadium.

I agree ... alltough I still think they can make it if they fight like they used to and dont get an attitude cause they won euro 2004 ... If they act like superstars on the field they might as well stop now and prepare for euro 2008

Why our friends from Asia don't write about their NTs????
England scraped a 2-1 win from what I hear.
Italy played ok (all the Milan players except Ambro played well apparently), but relied on Buffon a little from what I heard.
Holland are looking quite an interesting side with Van Basten although Czech's have taken steps back from the euros.
As for Asian results, I know Japan beat India 4-0, but thats about it.

Malaysia vs China ( 1-0 )
Good try by the underdog team with new boss.... in avoiding big lost!
China played with 10-men after one of the defender got sent off....
hope this is a good mileage for Malaysia !

England were comfortable, draw was not ok ;)
I got to say im disappointed in the Scots not taking all 3 points at home like! I mean we got to take maximum points at home and that was not the best of starts. The thnig is we are more liekly to beat Italy but lose to Belarus! I think a draw was a fair result last night though, I mean Craig Gordon gave me a scare like, but we had chances ourselves. I think the main thing we lack is a quality striker(someone like Sheva!) I mean we got fighting spirit and determination but not quality in the final third!! C'MON THE SCOTS!!
dont' even ask for CONCACAF zone. El Salvador were humiliated 0-3 by Jamaica last nigth :pchate: :sigh:

speaking of asia... in the 2nd page...
JORDAN had the chance of their lives to finish top of the group!!! ... ahead of iran (yes iran), qatar and laos.
belive it or not we beat iran in tehran 1-0 but they came to amman and beat us 2-0... poor guys the boys have been great, they made us proud eventhough they lost... weve got great results these last 2 years... in 1996 we were ranked 152... today were ranked at 37 unless theres been a change.
and belive it or not we couldve been champions of asia if it werent for that SOB zico... we were this close to kicking out the title holders japan but after that ****head referee heard zicos complaints to change the goals during PK, our players paniced and wasted 3 chances to go to the semis to meet bahrain (who we usually beat) and then china (not sure wed bet them but if we beat japan and iran we could beat china).
id love it if u gave jordan a nice applause because its been moments of magic lately...
PS: the stadium was full since 2 pm when iran came to amman, and the game started at 8 pm.... thats how much we are proud of the guys!!!
FORZA JORDAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ... check out the avatar!!! :p283:

im going to the france ireland match in paris october 9th. over 25000 irish applied to the footballl association of ireland for tickets. my friend was randomly selected by computer and got two tickets. he had like probably a 1 in a 200 chance of getting tickets. he gave the other one to me as you have probably guessed. the tickets havent actuallly arrived yet though think they are been posted next week. we are shocked we got tickets but we are delighted its going to be a great weekend. over 20000 irish are expected to travel to paris many without tickets. the match on a saturday we are flying in friday night and going home monday evening (all the flights back on sunday were booked out) the only bad thing is ill be broke after weekend and am going to have to stay in the next few sat nights trying to spare money. i hope the paris nightlife will make up for it.
as it stands ireland and france both have 4 points.
matchday 1
Ireland beat cyrus 3-0 at home
France drew 0-0 wit irasel at home
matchday2
Ireland drew 1-1 away with switzerland
france beat the faroe islands 2-0 away
Zidane,Thuram, Lizaruaru,Desailly all retired international duty after euro 2004
Claude Makele retired 2 wks ago after not been picked for game against faroe islands
Vieria is suspended for ireland game
with all the above missing and frances less than immpressive current form plus irelands habit of rising to the occassion against big teams i think we will get a result either a draw or win.
i may be too optimistic here but im predicting 1-0 to ireland with Roy Keane scoring.
What way does everyone else see the match going?
ill set up an individual thread for this match and a poll to see what everyone else thinks

Liechtenstein 2 - Portugal 2
and Liechtenstein made an own goal ...
Kaka just scored twice in Brazil's victory over Venezuela (final score 5-2)....good job Kaka!
Crespo was going to start against Uruguay today, but got injured and was sent back to Italy...to bad for him, it would have been a great chance to see him in action...anyway, Argentina won 4-2.
But the most important news of the day (probably only to me :D ) is that Bolivia defeated Peru....now we face Uruguay on Tuesday. VAMOS BOLIVIA!!!!!

I had a 12 match accumulator with 1000 - 1 odds and this was the only one that i got wrong. It feels like this :punch: at least England won
Nice goal by JDT (and one by Jørgensen) in Denmark's win in Albania.

I heard first Kakā goal was a total cracker!
I heard first Kakā goal was a total cracker!
Indeed. And the goal came early too, in only the 6th minute. Kaka' received a pass from Ronaldo just outside the box with 2 Venezuelan defenders closing in on him. He calmly slipped the ball between the legs of one defender, got pass the defence with a sudden change of acceleration, before coolly slotting it beyond the keeper into the low right-hand corner. Magical stuff!! Magnifico!!
:1ole:
Kaka's second came in the 34th minute. Ronaldo received the ball on the left flank, dribbled past 2 Venezuelan defenders into the area. Ronnie then momentarily lost control of the ball while trying to evade the 3rd tackle in the box. When Ronnie was shaping up for a shot after managing to scramble the loose ball, Kaka came charging in and smashed home a powerful shot via a deflection off the defender. Kaka's 2nd goal was "stolen" from Ronaldo. :devf: :devf: :devf:
Ronaldo eventually got on the scoresheet in the 2nd half with 2 quick goals in just 2 minutes!! I know it's only Venezuela but still it was magical stuff from Brasil's frontline.
Another good news is that Kaka played only 65 minutes of the match and was replaced by Adriano, who chipped in Brasil's 5th goal. I suppose Kaka will be on the pitch for much longer on Wednesday, when Brasil takes on a tougher opposition in Colombia.

not so good bout my national side yesterday!!! We had a fantastic chance to go infront in the first half when a goal mouth scramble was cleared off the line by Iversen, I always thought the first goal would have won it, was so tight. As i have said before we do not have a quality strikers to put away chances, we had our 5th and 6th choice centre backs playing yesterday and they were magnificent. I feel for McFadden, not playing regularly and Everton, natural instinct for the handball, 10 men and 1-0 down, looks like our 2006 dream is already over.

We don't have now strong and weak clubs (NTs) (Liechenstain-Portugal 2-2) now even the most smaller countrys can win and play good. This isn't like before when we had on 1side strong clubs (NTs) which always win, and on 2nd side weak clubs which sometimes win. Now you can't be sure that for example Spain will win against San Marino... and that is great :pr115:

It is a case of "superstar syndrome" the big teams turn up just expecting to put a few star names on the pitch and then collect their points after 90 minutes. The smaller teams still have the team ethic though, no superstars, no primadonna's just 11 players ready to work 1000% to win for their country

Bad match, average NI performance. Glad I didn't travel, but around 80 fans did for one of the longest away trips within UEFA. I'm hearing some good stories already. :diablo:
Austria on Wednesday. I was banking on a win on Saturday, followed by one on Wednesday, but now it looks like qualification is already out of the window. And to think things looked so good in Cardiff. :p017:

If you have seen San Marino live you wont say such nonsences... :delol:
Yes I have saw San Marino, but I have also saw Liechtenstain....
San Marino was so poor last month during the match in Lithuania... [I have watched it live in stadium]
I guess it is the poorest NT in whole Europe...
Maybe they are, but you can never cross out any club or NT, there will be always chance that they will win ,maybe small chance but you can never be 100%sure who will win there will be always that 1% for win of weak club.......
Yep, but SNM is special :D
I guess i could play in their squad........
We can discuss about San Marino all day, but I must go now, we will continue this some other time. ;)
I'm gonna have a great night this eve.... I hope:D
Espana has came into our castle and they wish to be beaten :D
Though it is almost impossible....
IMO the match ends 0 - 0...no one will score, espanoles - cuz of terrible quality of our pitch, we - cuz we do not know how to do it :D :rotfl:
Anyway...

Glad to see RvN scored 2 goals after his absence.

It was 2 degrees of Celcius. Sun almost set down 21:15 local time [+2 Greenwich]. I stand up when was played anthem of Espaņa, my friend did not do that. Then we all sang our anthem. I was full of emotions. Great impact. The whistle was blown. In the first half we played quite agressive, several good opportunities were not used. Edgaras Censauskis got a ball form the middle and it was left only to kick ball and to score, but Puyol cleared it form the line.
In second half espaņoles stated to push us, but our defence was supreme. We also had some great opportunities to score. Last minute referee made some contraversial decisions but Zydrunas Karcemarskas saved us.

I was at the Northern Ireland- Austria match last night, which finished 3-3. Cracking match, to be honest I got the feeling we really should have won even though we only equalised in the 94th minute.
Manninger of Siena wrecked himself by the look of things, had to go off clutching his shoulder :rocky: . The Austrians were pretty pissed off at the end and the referee needed the stewards to escort him off the pitch :w209: .
Has anybody here seen Healy's goal yet? Worth watching, believe me. :respect: :respect: :respect: :respect:

yeah I saw it, rae.. added time was very stressing. and ur GK was brilliant.
if Lithuania got any sharper strikers then IMO they could have beaten the spaniards.
btw, I was bored watching Latin's qualifiers. They usually played great against European teams but they sucks when they play against their neighbours. :D
Agro, have u seen me :D
My friend said that before the match I was cought by one of cameras for more than 5 seconds :D
Yep, if Deividas Cesnauskis and Robertas Poskus could play and Edgaras Jankauskas had both ''legs'' we had beaten them...
Sorry for that Carlos, I hope you and your team will recover during this qualification round...:D
oh man last week was just a horrible week personally... but concerning the NT it couldnt get anymore annoying
ok here how it goes, were tied with iran at the top of the group at 12 points but iran so far woill qualify if this trend continues because we beat them 0-1 in tehran but they beat us in amman 0-2 and only 1 team goes thru... we finish a poor game against laos 2-3 winners after a comeback, definatly not worth going to the WC in germany, but ive seen better performances, much better... alot now depends on the other game between iran and 3rd placed qatar in doha where qatar must win to remain in contention... it starts off bad where iran score first, but later qatar equalize in the 74th minute and while i was checking out the games on lievscore i call my friend and tell him all is great, but i feel even better when i hear the news that qatar scored another in the 77th minute, while i was on the phone... so i was goin loco!!! ... but later iran pressure and manage to score the equalizer, still things going our way, this way qatar (whom we face the last macth in doha) would be out and we would be in 1st place 2 points ahead of iran... but... in the ****ing 90th minute... that SOB from bayern munich hashemian scored a tap in... what the **** was the defgence doing?!!!!!!???!?!??!?! i felt like killing some1... oh man.... that was the best way to end of such a **** week... can u believe that??? now we face qatar in doha while iran host 'laos' in tehran... i mean... i never felt this bad about a game since italy lost the euro 2000 final against france...
talk about bad luck!

that's not always true....if you watched only Wednesday's qualifiers games then u might get this idea, but it just happens that Wednesday matchday was the suckiest of all 10 matchdays played until now by far. But take Sunday's matches for example, there were some good ones, like Argentina 4 - 2 Uruguay, or Venezuela 2 - 5 Brazil...anyway, in earlier matchdays we have seen some great games already....for me our qualifiers are the most exciting in the world, all teams play good football and everyone is in with a chance to qualify....for example, Bolivia is currently last in the standings, still only 3 points away from a qualifying spot ;)

I haven't really been following the qualifiers this past week.
All I know is England won both matches and Italy lost and won.
Italy need to pull their socks up if they intend to not be embarassed at the next WC, although I guess they have time on their side.

maybe that's not always true, Carlos.. but personally I couldn't enjoy the game itself, as all teams played with similar characters. :D tho I admit that most latin's players are great and skillful.
I'm looking forward to witnessing the WC finals instead. ;)

Well, congratulations to Palestine! Given the conditions under which they have to live and train, they must be pretty happy with the result, although I admit Chinese Taipai may not be the most fearsome of opponents. :D
Isn't this the game that had to be postponed because Israel wouldn't give the players exit visas to get to Taipei? Very unsporting, to say the least. Keep us posted, Mirza. I think it's great when teams like Palestine and Liechtenstein and Andorra beat the odds -- except when it happens against Italy, of course. ;)

if you mean to say that all South American national teams have similar characteristics (and therefore play similarly to each other) then you are partly right, maybe Brazil and Argentina are a step ahead, but all the other teams are not really superior to the others and have similar styles. This is partly the reason why our qualifiers are so competitive now (in the sense that nobody fears nobody and all the teams still have big chances to qualify).
rest assured, in the next WC a South American team will win....again :D

WHY!!!!!!!!!
It's a political thing, Mirza. I won't get into it because a football forum isn't the place for political threads. I'll just point out to these posters that dehumanizing a group of people is a formula for racism.
You should pay no attention to those types of comments; just keep on posting! :)

Forza Palestine, Liechtenstein, BiH, Iraq and any other national team I feel like applauding. I support Italia but I'm ready to appreciate other teams' achievements, and I don't expect putdowns like "sick post" just because you don't share someone else's opinion. If Stalin or Hitler had been Milan fans, I wouldn't have considered them buddies. Would you? Supporting Milan is not a guarantee of probity, just of good taste in football.
I believe in freedom of speech, and I don't like it when people try to bully others. Acknowledging the victory of a team against another is not "sick" and I resent the attempt to intimidate other posters. This thread was set up to allow us to provide any information we find interesting about any team we want, and I don't want the thread interfered with because of some posters' political opinions. You don't like Palestine, fine. See if I care. Support Chinese Taipei, Uzbekistan... or Iraq. :D

Brasil Squad Announced For Ecuador
Brasil's coach Carlos Alberto Parreira has named 22 players he would like to call in for the Auriverde's November 17 World Cup qualifier at Ecuador.
Flamengo goalkeeper Julio Cesar was the only domestic player named to the squad. Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Adriano and Luis Fabiano make up a tantalizing choice of strikers.
A trio of players from AC Milan were recalled, including midfielder Kaka. The Milan supremo returns after serving a suspension.
Complete List:
Goalkeepers: Dida (AC Milan), Julio Cesar (Flamengo)
Defenders: Cafu (AC Milan), Maicon (Monaco), Roberto Carlos (Real Madrid), Gilberto (Hertha Berlin), Juan (Bayer Leverkusen), Roque Junior (Bayer Leverkusen), Lucio (Bayern Munich), Luisao (Benfica)
Midfielders: Dudu Cearense (Stade Rennes), Kleberson (Manchester United), Edu (Arsenal), Juninho Pernambucano (Olympique Lyon), Ze Roberto (Bayern Munich), Kaka (AC Milan), Renato (Sevilla), Julio Baptista (Sevilla)
Forwards: Ronaldo (Real Madrid), Ronaldinho (Barcelona), Adriano (Inter Milan), Luis Fabiano (Porto)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
No major surprises except that Parreira has left Emerson out again. I can't remember when was the last time Emerson played for Brasil when Parreira was appointed the National Team coach. Capello must be grinning now.
Alex, the captain for the Copa America 2004 team, was dropped after his below par performance in Brasil's last match against Colombia.

Only thing that caught my interest was Ukraine's 2 goal hero ;)
and they still managed to lose to Ecuador ;)
C'mon Carlos, Brazil were playing at high altitude of Quito at 2,800m above sea level. Coming from Bolivia you should know that Brazil are not use to playing on such a high. :delol:

of course, altitude, how can I forget big team's most popular excuse when losing to Bolivia and Ecuador? ;)
There were positive notes to look at after the qualifiers.
(1)Shevchenko is in irresistible form.
(2)Tomasson was able to score 2 goals against Georgia with
ease and i don't know why he is having trouble scoring for Milan consistently.
However,Kaka was really out of place throughout the whole match. There is no excuse for the high altitude.Considering the amount of talent in the Brazilian squad, high altitude should not be an excuse.Hopefully Kaka can regain his momentum

This is not an excuse. We won Copa América twice (1997 and this year) playing in La Paz and Arequipa. Equador played better yesterday and deserved to win.
More over, the failure of the trio Ronaldo/Ronaldinho/Kaká, some players (Ronaldo and Roberto Carlos) who seem like former players and the lack of determination explain the loss.
Dida was the MOM and had another exceptional performance. Kaká had a good one, but lost two goals, and Cafu was so-so.

This is not an excuse. We won Copa América twice (1997 and this year) playing in La Paz and Arequipa. Equador played better yesterday and deserved to win.
respect for that. I really don't like those who blame it all on the altitude and try to put down the other team's efforts and good displays. I mean, altitude does affect the visiting team, ok, but it also affect the home team as well....as an example, around 75% of the Bolivian squad players play either abroad or in other Bolivian cities with far less altitude than La Paz (which is the city the national squad plays in), so when they have to go there and play, the altitude affects them as much as it affects the visitors. Anyway, back to the main point, there are teams that have shown that altitude is very "beatable".....Brazil, for example, has shown with their Copa America victories that you mentioned, that if a team that goes to the altitude focuses on the rivals rather than the altitude itself, their chances to get a successful result increase automatically.....in most cases, altitude has more of a phsycological impact on the visitors than a physical one. Brazil has showed that they are a team capable of winning everywhere...therefore they are rightfully called the best team.
Ecuador beat Brazil because they were the best team. Period.
btw, FORZA TZAR AND JDT!!!! :firedev:

More over, the failure of the trio Ronaldo/Ronaldinho/Kaká, some players (Ronaldo and Roberto Carlos) who seem like former players and the lack of determination explain the loss.
Dida was the MOM and had another exceptional performance. Kaká had a good one, but lost two goals, and Cafu was so-so.
I was soft trolling when I mentioned about altitude (Note the devil smiley behind) :grinser:
Yes, Ecuador were the better team on the night & deserved their win. I was appalled by the lack of commitment of some of the Brazilian players, particularly the 3 (You know who :grinser: ) who clearly had their minds set on El Clasico this weekend. Perreira again showed a lack of balls when trailing 1-0, took out Kaka for Adriano & leaving TWO DMs on the pitch. There is nothing to lose when you are behind chasing a game and Renato should have been subbed instead of Kaka. And please, no more Roque Junior in the NT.
Well, since the top 4 from South America will qualify, and there is no doubt Brazil will be among the top 4, finishing 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th is secondary so long as qualification is achieved.

I realised that, but I can't stand the excuses no more! Against Colombia we played home, almost inside the sea :D , everybody there speak Portuguese etc. and we had a very disappointing performance.
There they choose "We missed Kaká a lot" excuse... With all due respect to Colombia, with Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Adriano etc. we need to win when we face them.
Our NT didn't play bad only the last two games, against Ireland and Paraguay, in the beginning of this year, we had two 0x0 draws and I started to scratch my head. :rollani:
We need to be patient and wait until Germany to see what will happen, but, for God sake, Roque Júnior no! :angf:
Ronaldo?... is he so special....:rollani: and Adriano... he is not a God also...IMO

I think it was a case bad luck against Colombia. Adriano had a perfectly valid goal which was missed by the blind referee and linesman. The ball bounced off the crossbar and it was a mile over the goal-line before the ball bounced out. Bad bad officiating. And Ronaldo missed an absolute OPEN goal :eekani: which my grandmother in a wheelchair would have no problems putting it away.
& there is no gap; Ireland, France and ISRAEL are all at the top with 8 points after 4 games.

i think bosnia can win it, but i dont think they have the class to overcome spain and serbia and get even 2nd place. they have a chance, but its not gonna be easy. anything is possible in football, but you have to believe it and who knows they might finish 2nd.
well I hope belgium wins ;)

European World Cup Qualifying: Group Four Preview
3/23/2005 9:27:00 PM
Its tight at the top in World Cup Qualifying Group Four where France, the Republic of Ireland, Israel and Switzerland are all in with a shot of reaching World Cup 2006.
France: No Sweet Honeymoon For Domenech
Before a ball was kicked in Group Four, the question being asked was: Who will finish second behind France? And lets face it, it was a logical question to ask. France after all are France. Despite some high profile retirements after Euro 2004(most notably Zidanes) the general consensus was that France would reach Germany in 2006 without too much trouble. However, like so many things in this wonderful game we call football it hasnt quite gone to plan for Les Bleus. After a disappointing Euro 2004 (where reigning champions France fell in the Quarter Finals) it was all change at the top. Jacques Santini left his position as manager to join Tottenham in the English Premiership and was replaced by former under-21 coach Raymond Domenech. His appointment came as both a surprise and, it must be said, a little bit of a disappointment to the French media and public alike who wanted Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger to return to his homeland. Nearly a year into his reign, Domenech has done little to silence his critics. France lay second behind the Republic of Ireland after four rounds of matches and with both Switzerland and Israel breathing down their necks, qualification looks less than secure.
Dont Mention Pires!
One of the most talked about subjects in French football over the last six months has been Robert Piress exclusions from the squad. The 31-year-old Pires, who has 79 caps for his country, has not played for France since the 2- 0 win over Cyprus on October 13. Pires was substituted at half time in that match and then refused to sit on the bench for the second half. In the post match press conference Pires suggested that the coach had a personal problem with him - although it must be said Domenech denied this, claiming that the decision to sub Pires was tactical and for the good of the team. Personal or not, the fact is that since the outburst against the coach Pires has not even been called up to the squad much to the disappointment of the Arsenal star. After hearing the news that he had been dropped from the squad to face Sweden, Pires told the French press: I was expecting to be called back for the Sweden game so I was very disappointed. It came as no surprise when Pires was again left out of the latest squad to face Switzerland and Israel and it looks as though Robert Piress international career could well be over while Domenech is coach anyway.
HELP! We Need A New Zidane!
OK, it was always going to be difficult to replace the great Zizou and so it has proved for Raymond Domenech. With Zidane hanging up his international boots there was much debate in France about who was the right man to fill them. Was it Barcelonas Ludovic Giuly? Could Robert Pires move into a more central position? Was Bolognas young prodigy Mourad Meghni ready for the call? Camel Meriem a possibility? Or was it time to give Milans Vikash Dhorasoo a starring role? All of these were viable possibilities for the new coach and after experimentation it looks as though he has found his man. For anyone who was lucky enough to see Frances friendly with Sweden last month will tell you that Vikash Dhorasoo was simply fantastic. Playing on the left side of midfield but with license to roam, the former Lyon man ran the game and looked like the real deal. Can he reproduce it in the competitive games? Time will tell and his failure to gain a regular place in the Milan side will count against him, but after his performance against Sweden Dhorasoo must be in the coachs mind.
Fixtures
26.3.05 France vs. Switzerland
30.3.05 Israel vs. France
Republic of Ireland
Brian Kerrs Republic of Ireland team have had a impressive start to their qualification campaign, sitting top of Group four on goal difference, the Irish must believe that they have every chance of making it to their second successive World Cup Finals. Nobody gave the Irish much of a chance when they travelled to Paris last November. However, they came away with a highly respectable point and were unlucky not to come back to Dublin with all three. The point Ireland earned in Switzerland also looks a good one as the Irish will be confident of beating the Swiss in the return leg on Irish soil. Key to the Irish quest to reach Germany 2006 will be winger Damien Duff. The Chelsea star has been fantastic for his club this season. Along with Arjen Robben, Duff has caused panic in defences all over Europe. Duff has taken over from Roy Keane as the symbol of this Irish team and he is near indispensable for Brian Kerr. If the Repuplic can return home with a win from this weekends key clash in Israel then their position will look very healthy indeed.
Fixtures
26.03.05 Israel vs. Rep Of Ireland
Switzerland
After going out in the first round of Euro 2004 Switzerland came into this group as outsiders to make it to Germany. With France and Republic of Ireland about, Switzerland would have to be at their best. However, thus far the Swiss have done well without hitting top gear. Lying three points behind the leaders and with a game in hand, Switzerland will still feel that they have a big say in this group. But to qualify they will have to get points away to France and the Republic of Ireland, which needless to say will be no easy task. The new star of Swiss football is Johan Vonlanthen, who bagged a hat-trick last time out against the Faroe Islands. He also became the youngest ever goal scorer in European Championship history when he found the net at last summers tournament. Senior players Alex Frei and Hakan Yakin must also deliver the goods if Switzerland are to make the Finals.
Fixtures
26.3.05 France vs. Switzerland
30.03.05 Switzerland vs. Cyprus
Israel
The big surprise so far in Group Four. Israel have proved that they warrant respect. To travel to Stade de France and come away unbeaten was one of the best results in the countrys history. It would be a truly great achievement for the Israelis to reach the World Cup finals; the fact that thus far they have kept pace with France and the Republic Of Ireland is a feat in itself. The next two fixtures will be decisive however. Playing France and Ireland again will be a huge test of just how good Israel really are and we will have a much better idea of their qualification chances after these two games. Yossi Benayoun is the star man . The Racing Santander hitman has bagged 4 goals so far in this qualifying campaign and is making something of a reputation for himself.

A potentially decisive round of fixtures coming up in Group Four, the outcome of which will become clearer in the next week.

i really think that lithuania are a sweet suprise of that group and i think they can finish 2nd behind spain ;)
man tanx for opinion, but personally I do not believe that... IMO it is absolutely impossible.... cuz if they continue playing like they did last several matches......... :faint:
I hope Belgium start doing better. Belgium have always been my favorite (after Italy) really hope some of the young players start improving the team. :undecide: never prefer Belgium, and after their poor preformance in last year I remain with the attitude that they can fight with BiH for 3 place ;)
IMO the strongest challenger to first place is SCG.... only then Espana.... spaniards do not treat qualifiers right so thay possibly do not gain filan victory in the end... SCG was very srong looking last year... their spectacular preformances did a great impression to me and I do believe that they will win the groupe :(

Benayoun will be interesting to watch he is getting mentioned a lot here in the newspapers, quite a talent it seems. Dont worry though Keane always works hard.
i predict 2 -1 to Ireland but a draw would not be a bad result. :dcool:

When I really started following football in the mid 80s, those great teams of Gerets, Van Der Elst, Scifo, Ceulemans and others were definitely my faves because of the way they played and ofcourse Guy Thijs. Been a fan ever since.

Cool, so you are probably one of the few that knows that Gerets played for milan for a season... it wasn't a big succes as I heard...
and since ya know Ceulemans did you know he was begged by inter to join them he refused he didn't want to leave belgium
and tho caracterise the late coach Guy Thijs, I can tell you this: when he was coach of antwerp, he had Louis Van Gaal among his players but he was benched all the time. Louis went to talk to his coach and said "come one coach let me play, you know I can do EVERYTHING with a ball" Thijs replyed "that's right. but you just never have the ball" and big mouth Louis was benched again...

Yeah Gerets was at Milan but left soon:
1983/84 AC Milan 13 1
but I didn't know about Ceulemans and Inter and the story about Van Gaal, cool stories.
Fantastic match by England... all first half they struggled to score but just after 10 minutes in second they were possessing even three... great match by Joe Cole and Roon... they were the 'men of the match' :D
Becks, Lampard and Owen had a good match too... especially that spectacular pass by Becks form 60 metres... striaght to Cole's legs... woooooh.... Fantastic match by England... all first half they struggled to score but just after 10 minutes in second they were possessing even three... great match by Joe Cole and Roon... they were the 'men of the match' :D
Becks, Lampard and Owen had a good match too... especially that spectacular pass by Becks form 60 metres... striaght to Cole's legs... woooooh.... france 0-0 switzerland!!! france draw their 6th straight home game! they are still tied at the top, but have to go to some tough places, their qualification is not at all secure. as for the other 'top' nations, italy saw off a spirited scotland with 2 free kicks by mom pirlo, we(italy) didn't play so well but a win is a win and now we are 5pts clear, but others have 1 game in hand. holland won 2-0 away to romania, whilst czech republic styaed 1 point behind with a thrilling 4-3 home victory agaisnt finland. england as you all know won 4-0 agaisnt n.ireland and remain 1 pt clear over 8-0(!!!) winners poland. spain aren't in action til wednesday when they play away to group leaders serbia. greece won 3-1 away to georgia to close the gap to ukraine to 3 points.
Anyone has the freekick Pirlo scored againts Scotland?

wow, I've been following all of the qualifiers this weekend throughout the world.
Italy were not that great to be honest, though its clear Lippi is trying to build up a team and its looking better than Trap's side. Pirlo was magnificent and easily MOM imo. Those freekicks were simply beautiful. What I don't understand is why BBC Scotland gave David Weir MOM, it seems ridiculous.
England were fairly good, though Nothern Ireland were an embarassement. Joe Cole and Terry were imo England's two best players. However, I don't understand why the BBC pundits gave Rooney such praise, as I thought he was quite average.
I've seen many other matches, but I'll just leave it at those two :)
this canīt be happening. :broken: Finland played good game but lost 4-3 to Czech Republic. Kuqi had chance to make it 4-3 to finland but cech made great save and czech made counterattack and scored when 87 minutes was played. this is just typical. :depress:
but hey, at least italy won and pirlo made two nice freekick goals

yeah, i thought Rooney was possibly the biggest threat for England too. He hit the post with a great header and had the best shot of the first half, then was involved in Owens goal and made the own goal singlehandedly from a near impossible situation (surrounded by the corner flag  ) the pass through to Dyer was fantastic too and Lampard really should have finished that off
Cole and Lampard were the best midfielders, i thought Beckham and Gerrard were overly ambitious in a lot of their passing, particularly in the first half. Dyer was impressive too, he's playing like he did when he first broke through a few years ago and with him, Cole and Rooney all capable of running dangerously at opponents it gives us some great options for next years world cup. The defence and keeper were barely troubled but did their jobs well enough

I was born in Sweden, so don't judge me too hard. Our first goal was a beauty btw :)
We started out the game very strong and the 1st half we were playing better. If that bicycle kick went it that would have been some goal. but luck wasnt on our side tonight. now we have to work very hard to get back on track.
Another reason for our loss is that bojinov was injured, martin petrov, and stillian petrov have accumilated yelow cards. they will play in the next game so if we beat hungary and then croatia in june we are back on track.
From an English point of view, i think that it's good that we have other players who can cause damage when Beckham, Gerrard and Owen don't have good games. Owen is clearly lacking confidence, but he's still far and away our best striker and with any luck a good game on Wednesday might help him out.
I thought Dyer was great, he came on, made 2 great chances with his pace and was like "Well i did my bit, why didn't you finish it off ?" :D

But Roon was spectacular, and he is only 19, as commentator said :pr115:
PS:Stez... I bet you wanted to say North Ireland instead of England ;) :DCole and Lampard were the best midfielders, i thought Beckham and Gerrard were overly ambitious in a lot of their passing, particularly in the first half. Becks was great... conversely was Gerrard... he could not found his palce on the field... but that do not mean that he is not good enough... I bet he is going to score against Azerbaijan.

Becks as I have noticed had a quite good match comparing to some preformances in Madrid this season... the same goes to Owen. They both feel refreshment while playing among their English fellows :tong: Though as a stiker Owen can not compete with Roon ;) MUFC scouts were more warily than Real's last summer :nana:
I have just watched live CONCACAF match between Mexico and USA... and I am glad to declare that 'green-go's were crushed by two goal to one. Borgetti and Naelson the scorers  Although I watched only first half cuz I have noticend that on other channel there is Barzil - Peru live broadcasting so I switch that on to see some action of our Milan players. I should say that brasilians are too selfconfident and they do not bother themselves to score immeditely. Kaka was harshly fouled several times though referee stay calm. :v46: Some decisions were quite awful. The match is running so I go to watch it :tongue1: ;)
Oh well, it's over now. Kaka the scorer of the night :tong:. Great match. Great play. Brasilians are the magicians of football. They play so easy and smoothly that it seems football is not a hard game at all. I wonder what is going to compete with them while they defend their title next year in Germany... the competition was to pick the scottish man of the match, not the overall best player on the park.
I didn't have much hope for scotland playing Italy away from home, but in the second half we aquitted ourselves fairly well, Buffon made a pretty good save on Quashie's volley, it would be naive to say it was an incredible save considering it was Buffon but still even Buffon can let shots like that in. Pirlo's freekicks where very good but still only set pieces. Miller also had probably the best chance of the match by either side, poor decision making cost him it though, he didn't look up to international level at all that match, we really could do with an accomplished striker again. McCoist wasn't world class or anything but he knew what he was doing. All in all though, it was a better than anything under Vogts and when Fletcher is fit and able to add a touch of technical class to the side (agin I have no illusions of him being some world class player but he is somenoe who knows how to distribute the ball competently) our midfield should look quite decent. We just need to find a striker we can rely on from the few floating about and hopefully start building a little confidence in our abilities so has to go into Euro 2008 qualifiers with a good attitude (I'm realistic, we are pretty defiently not going to the World Cup)

... :rollani: :( yesterday was lucky day for you Bosnians... very lucky. I never though that it could happen. You were so poor that I could not ven imagine. Earlier I thought that my NT is playing poorly though after laste eve's match I changed my mind. SO let's start ;) :nasty:
Well, I was quite upset before the match cuz our NT lost to german second bundesliga's club Cottbus Energie. I though that in Sarajevo we will be crushed. Especially regarding yer latest matches against Espana and SCG. Even though yer loss to Belgium did not make a relief to me. However, fortunately, I was wrong. Game started by 100 per cent opportunity to score a goal, our forward Danilevicius [Livorno] was denied form goalbox by yer keeper. After that waisted chance we took possesion of the ball and let bosnians to nothing. Although we wee not very accurate too... So once Bolic tackled the ball and scored magnificent goal form 20 metres. That strike was stunning :star: . Though it was completely undeserved. Then we started somehow to press yer defence, though nothing really special was created but yer offence looked poorly.
I second half we ratain control of the ball and created a little danger near yer goal once or twice. During one of those attacks somebody of us was fouled. Refere gave a free kick. Deividas Cesnauskis [Hearts, Edinburgh] passed ball to the penaly box and our defender Stankevicius [Berscia] headed it into net. A few minutes later one of bosnian players immitated a foul which was worth only yellow card, however russian referee showed red to the same guy who scored several minutes ago. I have to say that bosnian football style is based on diving and fouling rivals. Entire firts half bosnian defenders were stopping our attacks by fouls. It is a shame. You create nothing but you do not let yer rivals play too. However referee was calm and showed no cards at all though some fouls were quite harsh. In second half the same referee gave 5 yellow and one red card in 20 minutes... some of them were very weird especially the red one. Bosnian player was fouled by Stankevicius though after whitle he pushed a little his rival and he fell like a cut tree... :p146: That was shameful dive. Later there were a lot of such profesionally made dives though not all of them were estimated by referee... :rollani: Even though I should say that I havent seen such diver's team... Concluding this game report I want to metion that after sent off we made more opportunities to score and they were more dangerous. Shame to bosnians who played in their own audience :hihihi: . If I were bosnian I would be furious on my team. And how about you Mirza?

that buffel incident? He isn't a real dirty player but since january he plays for the rangers perhaps he picked it up in the scottish league ;-)

so far in the european zone, this is my rough idea of what will happen to the teams:
group 1, holland 1 pt ahead of the czechs, the game in czech will probably decide who wins and who comes second but romania could still nick second place as they have to play the czech's at home and still are only 2pts behind them.
group 2,ukraine are favourites to win this group, they have the easiest run in, but have a tough match with greece, if they can get something from it they'll be assured of first place, denmark seem out of it already, whilst turkey and greece wil probably fight it out for 3rd place
group 3, 4 teams battling in out here, with portugal and solvakia joint top, and russia and latvia within 3 and 4 pts rspectively. portugal are again slight favourites, with probably russia and slovakia in the race for second
group 4, the tightest group of them all, france switzerland, isreal and rep.of ireland, all within a point of each other, france can not seem to win atm, and its anyone's guess who will finish top there
group 5, italy have a 5 point lead with half the games gone, it seems unlikely that any of the teasm behind them will catch them, that leaves norway slovenia and belarusto fight it out for second, scotland if they go on a winning run could haul themselves into contention, but thats very unlikely
group 6, england top by a point from poland, both will qualify as the team that finishes second will more than likely claim one of the 2 best runner-ups positions, as they have only dropped a handful of points each. austria are the only danger, but they have to go to both england and poland both teams who have beaten them at home so its makes it unlikely that they could upset the top 2.england should win the group
group 7, serbia, spain lithuania and belgium are all in with a shout, but spain should win the group as they have several easy home matches to come, with serbia in second despite brave pefromances from lithuania and belgium
group 8, croatia top by a point from sweden with bulgaria a further 4 points behind. sweden and croatia will fight it out for top spot, but sweden will probably finsh top
so here is my prediciton at the half way stage
group winners:
holland, ukraine, portugal, ireland, england, italy, spain and sweden
2 best placed runners up:
poland and slovakia
play-off positons:
czech republic, greece, france, norway, serbia and croatia

senegal are facing a battle to qualify, as although they aretop of their group, tehy are one of 3 teams level on points at the top
south africa are 2 pts clear, but will probably qualify with out 2 much fuss
the ivory coast suprisingly lead cameroon by 4 points with just 4 games to go, its touch and go whether cameroon will be able to claw themseelves back to the top
nigeria should qualify despite a valiant attempt from angola
and the same can be said for morroco who are fighting off kenya, but tunisia are not 2 far behind either

atm, in the south american table where 4 teams qualify automatically and the 5th place teams faces a play off agaisnt an oceania side(i ithnk) argentina and brazil will qualify, and the other 2 spots wil go to 2 from the rest of the table!! ecuador and paraguay have some breathing space, but coloumbia, peru, urugauy, venezula, bolivia and chilie are not out of it yet.
and one of those teams will play australia(again not sure) for a world cup place as they will easily fight off the 'threat' of the solomon islands (they played recently and austrlia won by double figures)

You said that we play dirty stile of football, maybe we made more fouls then your NT,but your fouls wherevery dirty, you said that Beslija immitated that foul when Stankevicius pushed him with 2 arms. Handball is very dirty sport, but he would also get there red card. He deserved it. Before that your Skerla made foul on our Beslija, even that he was the last man in defence he got only yellow card and that he didn't stopt Beslija we will maybe scored because Skerla was last in your defence.

The main reasson was that some mans from our football association have little "fight" with leaders of our BH FANATICOS.
Could you explain it more clarely, please. It sounds quite suspicoius :D
It's very hard to explain that, before our game in Belgium some people from our football association didn't wont that our fans go in Belgium, they said that there isn't enough ticets for the match, but leaders of our fans (BH FANATICOS) succeed to buy about 1000ticets. And after that there was big affair in our country. Now our fans wants to relay our football association. Before this every year our NT and clubs didn't get any money because people from football as. take the money for them selves.
I hope that you now understand it.

Yes! Go Ukraina!! Although It is good for sheva to get into the world cup, I think it is even more important for Ukraine to prove the world that they are a quality team and can win. Shevchenko is not all Ukraine has, I say we have 5 or 6 World class players, in Fedorov, Husin, Husev, Voronin, Shovkovsky, and Shevchenko. Shevchenko does help alot though!
Forza Ukraina i Milano! ;)
Are u really ukrainian? i am surprised that rebrov is not in the national team, even though he is not as good as his time in dynamo kyiv. what happens to him now? it is a pity that his promising future did not turn into reality. The next world cup match is in june.. so for now, i will focus on milan!
COME ON MILAN AND UKRAINE!!!!

I thought you were just a very multi-talented guy, scoring for the BiH and posting on MM! :D
WEll, I hope Bosnia wins. From that group I like Bosnia and Belgium so I hope they both win and at least one makes it further. Other than Ukraine and Italy going to Germany, I can't really get into things at this stage but please, no Spain as they always spit the bit in the WC.
I hope that it will be draw!!!

thanks to your country we can almost forget the WC :sob: ... For the 1ste time since 1978, we won't be on the WC (unless miracles happen)
Belgium is responsible for what what happened to them. nobody else. they looked poorely almost in all games and I have no headache not to se them in WC2006.
Last eve we fought against spaniards like beasts however lack of fortune didn not gave us a draw. Espana was quite poor looking at thier names, only Xavi and Vicente were very dangerous. Raul and Joaquin were so poor that I have problem to see them in Real next season too :D. Our players showed determination and will too conquer spaniards in their own castle. I do not recall the last time I saw anything like this. It was super feeling to see my compatriots are not worse than spanish stars. However...
Rae you are right that Belgium did play some very bad games, but your country was also very bad in Belgium, they had 1 opportunity and it was goal. But if we don't qualify, it's of course our own fault (not like for Euro 2004 were Collina ripped us in Bulgaria). But it's a new team, with a lot of youngsters, and i think that's good for the future. For exemple Van den Borre played yesterday, he's only 17 years old. But still, it's a shame that Belgium will not qualify, as we are the only team that qualified 6 times in a row for the WC !

I'll play for my NT one day (I hope so), but in handball not football... :u56:
We won 3-1, but we played badly, we recive goal from free kick from about 25m...
Our chance for the WC are small, we must win in all our games... :broken:
Next our game is against Spain in Valencia 08.06.2005.
We were better then Spain in Bosnia but we played only 1-1, and now i don't expect much from my NT, but who knows...

I don't se why are we guilty??? As I know you beat us 4-1, so i don't know why is our small country guilty for Belgium problems???

i meant actually Lithuania, who played 1-1 against us in Brussels. Those 2 expensive lost points can cost us qualification. Of course, this is not the fault of Lithuania, i know that, but it was one big frustrated game.
Rae you are right that Belgium did play some very bad games, but your country was also very bad in Belgium, they had 1 opportunity and it was goal.I never elevate my team, mate. I know we are not good. We always are not good enough. Especially if you recall four or five years ago we were so poor that couldnt even watch the matches they played. Now many things have changed into better side. Although I think we are still weaker that Belgium is and that result in their stadium was a great achievement for us. That was a great free kick by Jankauskas, wasnt it? :bri:

Of course, this is not the fault of Lithuania, i know that, but it was one big frustrated game.yeah, yer team loox quite faint these days comparing to not old past when you had yer key players playing, donot recall exactly their names, Lucas Nilis or smth, Wilmots and others...
Yes indeed, Marc Wilmots was a real leader, like we now don't have anymore. The other player you mean now is Luc Nilis who played for Anderlecht, PSV and Sheffield, but his career ended cruelly on 31 years old after he broke his leg on more places after a duel with a goalkeeper. Was very sad imo.

I'm not expecting nothing, because my NT isn't good in this year.....

This jerk added 6min injury time (what was to much) and we recived goal in 97min....
Now we doesn't have any chances to go to Germany, with 3pts from this game we will have 9pts and great chance to go to Germany.
But now thanx to this jerk, we can say GOOD BY GERMANY!!!!!
I can't belive, congrats to Spain they were better but they couldn't pass our defence, they had some great chance but many of the stopt our great keeper ALMIR TOLJA. Last 10min we played with 9players.
I wouldn't be angry that we got goal in 60,70 or 80 min, but to recive goal in 97min, even that refery extend game for 6min, that is unbelivable...

believe me, in belgium we were hoping for a bosnian win but i believe that that f*** Spanish team MUST be qualified from the FIFA ... Unbelievable what luck that team has (and 'lucky' decisions by referees) ... I really hope that Spain will be out for the world cup, they had much luck in Lithuania and Serbia, and Belgium got TWO red cards, and after that Spain could strike twice. OOoh i HATE that team !!!
But anyway, 1-1 is still a rather good result for us, we play Spain at home, and have already played 2 x against Serbia, so there is still a little bit of hope to qualify ...
fvckin referees... I also think that it is corruption in world football... it impossible to end like this... with 9 players only and 7 minutes of stopage time :nunu: :1ang:  it is crazy.... :punch:
