can't wait
I'm pretty aware that this game is in focus and all of our players will spare no effort to win it, and it's important to our morale in the CL.
But to me, qualifying from this group is not a question, I'd rather see Milan win the match against Cagliari and the derby followed, if the result of this match has to be traded.

Mihan this game is much more important than the 3 points you may get with it: firstly evryone in the world will keep an eye on this big clash, secondly the tradition and the rivalry between the clubs, third the fact i will be at san siro and it bothers me when i go there and watch the Mighty Rossoneri lose
I hope both teams will be ready with their very best players.

then good luck to u. milan doesn't seem to play as well in san siro than away. :ilol:

Its good that the Derby is after the match with Barca because Inter wont be able to put out a weaker team against Valencia to rest some players. Then again they do have about 300 players to chose from. :ilol:
I agree with Giovanni that winning against Barcelona, and making a good show is as important as the points. Football is played for the beauty of the game, the special moments, and the glory. At the end of the season, if you are very good (and lucky), you get a trophy.
So, Mihan, may I suggest to drop the "paper football" mentality, the accounting for the points, the "trading" for results and concentrate on the special moment of a great match between two great teams, among the best of the world?.... (Not a criticism, just a suggestion from someone who has been following the game for a long time)...
Both Milan and Barcelona will probably qualify from the initial group. I, for one, am looking forward to an open, attacking and classy football the likes of which Hungary in the late 50's, Brazil in the 70's, Holland in the 80's, and Milan on many occasions (particularly the Van Basten years).
Football has its coaches, newspaper analysts, accountants, transfer specialists, agents, lawyers, and betting offices. I want the rest of us to be fans in the original sense of the game- look forward to a great and entertaining match every time our team is on the field, and have enough sportsmanship to applaud the opponent for a good show.
I still remember some of the great matches since 1970 and the excitement of open football. We may witness a great game with Pirlo/Rui Costa/Kaka/Sheva on one side and Deco/Ronaldinho/Larsson/Eto'o on the other. I want to remember the game Milan/Barcelona ten years from now and do not wish to make a virtual "trade" for 3 points against Cagliari.
Football is a beautiful game, not an accountant's compilation.

As a relative 'neutral' I'm really looking forward to this game. If both teams play to their potential then it should be a great game to watch. I think both defences have weaknesses so with the attacking talent on the pitch there should certainly be goals.
As a Celtic fan, the last result I want is a draw. From our point of view we need either team to win both games so that we can hold on to an outside chance of qualifying. For Milan to achieve that I think you need to go to the Nou Camp with a positive attitude because you will struggle if you try to defend against Barca. The only time we were on top in our match against them was when we took the game to them but even then they demonstrated they have the talent to punish you on the break.
Good luck and Forza Milan!

Does anyone know where i can see this game for sure? because i'm predicted they will broadcast the Milan - Barca game, and the Inter - Valencia. I want to make sure I watch both the Milan games, as these 2 games will be the best of the season (people would say an early champs league final). Can someone confirm please?
Also, if Milan and Barca both qualify from the 1st group stage, is it true that they don't meet only till the final? or they don't meet only in the Last 16 round?

It's only in the first knockout stage that the group winners and runners-up are kept apart.
From the UEFA website
First knock-out round
4.07 The first knock-out round pairings are determined by means of a draw. The
first knock-out round is played under the cup (knock-out) system, on a homeand-
away basis (two legs). The UEFA Administration ensures that the
following principles are respected.
a) Clubs from the same association must not be drawn against each other.
b) The winners and runners-up of the same group must not be drawn
against each other.
c) The group-winners must not be drawn against each other.
d) The runners-up must not be drawn against each other.
e) The runners-up must play the first leg at home.
4.08 The team which scores the greater aggregate of goals in the two matches
qualifies for the quarter-finals. Otherwise, the stipulations of Article 5 apply.
Quarter-finals
4.09 The eight winners of the first knock-out round contest the quarter-finals. The
quarter-final pairings are determined by means of a draw. The quarter-finals
are played under the cup (knock-out) system, on a home-and-away basis
(two legs). The team which scores the greater aggregate of goals in the two
matches qualifies for the semi-finals. Otherwise, the stipulations of Article 5
apply.

So italian teams can play each other in quarter finals? damn! i knew that the italian teams would reach the semi's (maybe not Roma), now, i bet that we would meet juve in quarters, i have a terrible feeling.. ofcourse we'll win, but i want the italian teams to stay in champions league to fuk all other teams.. and shut up all those english fan supporters in particularly, who think the premiership is the best in the world, and actually last year's ancona would rape this GREAT arsenal they talk about :P

If both teams go for a win, then this has the potential to be a wonderful game. Milan and Barca on paper at the very least, have two of the best teams in the world, with an experienced international in every position.
There should be enough at stake for Milan to play all out for the victory, as with a win vs Barca + one more in the win column, Milan would have an unassailable 12 point tally. Barca must feel the same way, and hopefully this will be a match to remember.
As far as I am aware, ESPN International will be carrying the game live, for those with access to this wonderful channel.
I look forward to this game like a 6 year old anticipating Christmas morning.
FORZA MILAN!

Seriously it will be a great game, I'm webmaster of www.barca-web.com and I've come here to see your opinions on the game. What do you think of Barca's start to the season, what result are you expecting? Milan need at least a point at the San Siro, because it's the Camp Nou after that.

You being a Barca fan, I am not surprised you predict your team winning. After all, Barca is on fire and you are probably playing the best football in Europe at the moment. Barca had a great comeback last season, then you added some quality players in the summer, and now you started very well too. So as I said, I can only understand if you (and all your fellow Barca fans) are very confident of facing and beating any opposition. But, even though you already proved yourselves against many teams, you faced nothing like Milan yet. True, we had some problems recently, but I am sure we will have them worked out by the time we face your team. If Milan reaches this match with all our little problems solved and in top form, then there is little any team can do to stop us, and that includes the current Barca....all this regardless of whether it is at the San Siro, at the Camp Nou or in planet Mars.....when we are in top gear it doesn't make a difference where we are playing, we just go for it. So to answer your question of what result I am expecting. Simple. A Milan win at the San Siro followed by another win at the Camp Nou. I wouldn't complain much if we only collect 4 points from both matches, but I think Milan can and will get all 6 of them.
Anyway, we shall find out soon I guess, huh? :dcool:

I am honestly surprised that so many people regard Barca as the CLEAR favourites in this game but they tend to forget that this free-flowing Barca has proven absolutely nothing for they have played mostly low level teams and Celtic was probably their classiest opposition yet. Well, no disrespect to Celtic or its wonderful fans but their team is at the level of teams like Brescia in the Serie A.
IMO, it is in fooyball fans' interest Milan NOT to hit its top form in the games with Barca for we are more than capable of beating them right now. If we hit top form, however, it will be a solo performance by Milan and there will hardly be any intrigue in the game no matter whre it is played.
For Christ sake, Milan and Barca fans, Barca are the underdogs and we are the favourites here for Barca will meet a team that is far better than Santander and the likes.

Well, a bit too busy to visit the Barca forum so my advise is you to add them. Thus it will be a Barca fan who will bring his buddies to the earth after those marvelous performances against teams like Racing Santander and San Sebastian for Milan is quite different of an outfit and above all comes from the league where free space on the pitch is not in abundance like in the Primera.

I have to say that despite how friendly you Milan guys have been, the best you can hope for in the Nou Camp is a draw. If you go out looking to win you will get beaten badly.
Play for the draw and look to win the group in Milan.

This is what people say when we played Bayern Munich two years ago
And Inzaghi provided us another answer.
Although you are right, this is probably what Ancelotti is going to do too.
And telle milanmisti, didn't Milan break a lot of 'never lose at home' record for like how many years... liek the one against Lazio last season?
And how will you believe that you (as Celtic) can get qualify if you think that you can't beat Barca at their home? Unless, of course, you are saying that Celtic can beat Barca at Nou Camp (while Milan can't). In that case you probably deserve getting qualified more than Milan.
That is, not possible... at least not at this moment.

Playing for a draw on their stadiums is a suicidal tactic vs teams like Real and Barca - they will simply overrun you if you don't make them think about defending themselves. And I am sure Ancelloti knows this already so I believe the game at the Camp Nou will be easier for Milan than the one at the San Siro.

PREVIEW
======
These type of games is what makes the UCL the biggest club competition in the world! The TIE of the Group Stage commences come Wednesday night with Part 1 set to take place in the magnificent San Siro and Part 2 in the awesome Camp Nou! :star: Europe's two best stadiums promise to make it a wonderful spectacle for one and all.
The most explosive side in World Football at the moment is coming to the fashion capital where they face none other than their nemesis and ghost of seasons past.
AC Milan & FC Barcelona | San Siro & Camp Nou | 85,700 & 98,000
There is nothing small about this tie! Both clubs can boast more than 10 International trophies under their belt. Glamour, magnificence, pedigree and tradition are there.
Star-studded line-ups will walk out on the San Siro pitch with some of the world's best footballers on show for a double header of gigantic proportions!
Everything and anything takes a backseat. Matchday 3 is where it all begins!
M I L A N
Milan is getting into the groove slowly and steadily. The initial stop start campaign is getting into balance with some authoritative spells becoming regular. There is no denying that the team is not firing on all cylinders yet but glimpses are there. The momentum build-up till now is right about ok and now is the time to slowly build it up for the bigger game on the bigger stage! It will be an excellent test for both sides to know where they stand as both sides along with a few others are favourites for the most prestigious club trophy come May 2005.
Milan has not got all players who are 100% fit enough but that is minor considering the injury crisis taking place at Barcelona where the players have been falling like nine pins.
B A R C E L O N A
Joan Laporta got elected in the wake of some raised eye brows but the man has a plan and his faithfulness to the club is bearing fruit. At this time last year Barcelona was stuttering with poor results under a new regime but patience was key and what was to follow post winter break was some breath-taking football along with results leading to Rijkaard not only remaining as coach but also having the chance to coach some of football's rich talents and class acts. This revamped Barcelona side is even stronger than the one of last season and promises to deliver a whole lot more than just being a flash in the pan. Barcelona faces its stiffest test yet as they enter the Devil's Den in an official game.
Probable Starting Line-Up(s)
=====================
---------------
---> Milan <---
---------------
--------------------Dida---------------------
--
--Cafu-------Nesta------Maldini-----Kaladze--
--
-------------------Pirlo----------------------
--
--------Gattuso--------------Seedorf--------
--
-------------------Kaka---------------------
--
----------Tomasson----Shevchenko----------
1. Milan should be able to field a full strength starting line-up but the big question mark remains whether Stam starts. Stam could slot in for Maldini in the middle who will either move to left back or the bench. Playing Maldini at LB or for that matter Pancaro would be a mistake as Belletti (right back) and Giuly who have turbo charged engines will burn that flank and a lack of pace from the left back will be dangerous. Since Barcelona doesn't rely out and out on crosses / long balls hence Maldini can play in the centre with not many problems.
2. There isn't much of a question mark over other positions. The debatable slots will be the striker position where one of Inzaghi or Crespo might get the nod over Tomasson. Tomasson complements Shev the best and hence he should start. Inzaghi or Crespo can be very effective subs and should be brough in slowly to the first team.
-------------------
---> Barcelona <---
-------------------
------------------------Valdes ----------------------
--
--Belletti---------Puyol-------Marquez-----Van Bronckhorst--
--
----------------Xavi----------------Gerard-----------
--
-------------------------Deco------------------------
-------------Giuly------------------Ronaldinho--------
--
------------------------Eto'o------------------------
1.The probable line-up for Barcelona is limited to the fitness situation of the players. The Barcelona starting line-up is almost there so there shouldn't be any problem to field a strong line-up. The subs bench however will be lacking for a replacement especially in the defensive midfield department.
2. Rijkaard knows that Milan will leave open that left flank as Seedorf will play in a free role. Gattuso is on the other end of the field to prevent either of Belletti or Giuly making a run down the right flank hence both those players could have a field day. Pirlo and the LEFT BACK will have crucial roles to play in the game defensively to counter that threat on the left side.
3. At the same time Ronaldinho cutting inside leaves the space open on Barcelona's left flank thereby giving space for Shevchenko/Tomasson or Kaka to make their move on that side of the pitch. It is a predicament for both the coaches.
4. A change that Rijkaard might make could be in defence fielding Oleguer instead of Marquez who could play in defensive midfield in place of Gerard. That would add more solidity to the Barcelona defence but less flair for the offence.
Tactics
======
---------------------------
--- Ancelotti [M I L A N] ---
---------------------------
Ancelotti will be aware that Barcelona is IN THE ZONE right now and on a hot undefeated streak. That is a good thing for Ancelotti to play with as nothing lasts forever. Easier said than done. Milan has to fix some major concerns right now.
A) Vunerability on set pieces.
B) Improve finishing.
C) Don't switch off in games.
Barcelona has players with superb deliveries on set pieces and that is one thing Milan has to be careful on. Stam is good in the air but as mentioned before Barcelona is not the type of team that relies heavily on the set pieces or aerial play. They play smooth one touch football built on a system that is reliant on possession.
The finishing aspect should improve as Kaka, Shevchenko and Tomasson look to be in fine form. It is better to kill off games because Inzaghi will not come save Milan in the dying minutes every time.
Winning games when not in full flow is a good sign because the best is yet to come. Milan so far is in it winning some games but it has taken some alarm bells to ring first for that to happen. It is better to remain switched on rather than having the backs against the wall only to turn on the heat for the kill.
----------------------------------
--- Rijkaard ---
----------------------------------
Rijkaard has played for and won with Milan. He knows the club inside out and the tradition in Milanello. And he is coming face to face with a former teammate who was a part of the Grand Milan side. His concerns for the game will be:
A) Dealing with injuries and finding alternatives.
B) Maintaining the 60% plus possession for this TIE.
C) Making sure that Barcelona doesn't get tactically beaten.
Rijkaard has got an almost ready starting 11 for him. Giuly should be ready for that game. He would've preferred Edmilson to start but he is out so Marquez MIGHT start alongside Xavi giving Oleguer the starting CB slot. It adds more defensive grit to the side.
Maintaining a 60% possession in the San Siro will not be easy. Barcelona has successfully held possession in every single game they have played this season but the opposition this time is on a different level and class. Rijkaard will want his men to not lose concentration and play the simple yet devastating football through possession.
Barcelona has not won against Milan in the last three UCL games. The 4-0 drubbing in 1994. A 0-2 defeat in the Camp Nou and a 3-3 draw at the San Siro. Barcelona has been scoring freely and it doesn't take long for a goal drought to come after such a spell. Milan will be organized and also rely on possession football hence Barcelona has to make sure to not end up dancing to the tune of the Rossoneri.
KEY BATTLES
==========
Nesta Vs. Giuly
Pirlo Vs. Deco
Gattuso Vs. Ronaldinho
Kaka Vs. Gerard/Marquez
Shevchenko Vs. Puyol
KEY MEN
=======
Andriy Shevchenko
------------------
The Stealth Bomber is in a purple patch and will be tough to pin down for this big match. He is a big match player and the most complete striker in world football. Puyol and Co will have to keep a close eye on Sheva as he has a knack to come from nowhere to win games on his own.
Deco
-----
He is getting better and better and I think he is the man to watch rather than Ronaldinho. Deco is deceptively dangerous in the build-up play and lurking in the right places at the right time. Ronaldinho will get all the concentration and focus but Deco is the man to watch out for.
[B] Prediction
The last time these two sides met in the San Siro in this competition it was a treat. A brilliant hat-trick by Rivaldo and an absolute long range thunderbolt by Albertini will be remembered by many. Barcelona is coming here with purpose and reputation and are undeniably an explosive offensive unit. Their defensive fragility could hurt them if they are too over-ambitious. It is a pretty decent undefeated streak they have (8 games) with loads of goals accompanying that figure. Time to change that. Milan should prevail by a goal in a goal fest encounter.
:star: Brilliant as usual Haroon :star:
It's gonna be pretty cool seein Kaka and Ronaldinho play against each other considering how they play so much alike. :D
If we control the game and get them into their own field, it's done. Their attack is sort of usntoppable, but their defence is weak. They're a typical team that needs ball possesion, if they don't have it, we'll get the 3 in San Siro easily.

I think it goes down until the semis, if I'm not mistaken. If this is true, then what a Pity, cuz seeing a Barca-Milan Final would have been quite a treat

6 Days to go to the game and Giuly, Gerard, Belletti and Eto'o will all either start or be on the bench against Espanyol. Rest assured that each and every one of them will start in the San Siro come next Wednesday.
Heidi,
We've played Barcelona after the 4-0 UCL win. It was in the group stage of the 2000-1 UCL where we won in the Camp Nou: 0-2 (Bierhoff & Coco) and the second game in the San Siro was a classic with a 3-3 scoreline! Rivaldo scored a fabulous hattrick that night.

Barca's performance vs Espanyol in the derby wasnt too impressive, though I daresay that will change come Wednesday!
I cant wait for this fixture....the catalans seem to have almost everyone back from injury, and will be aiming for a win, as they dont have the personell to defend for any length of time anyway!
With the space created by their attacking play, we should be able to generate some chances...
Another Milan win!!!!

yeah i love that. some teams always boast about this and that until they met us. i still remember that wonderful strike from albertini in the last encounter. that game at nou camp was the time when Coco first show his stuff.
it seem to me some barca fans think they will have an advantage at Nou camp. they won't cause we play better away from san siro and we beat them 2-0 the last time we went. the game at san siro will be very important, we just need a point and i will be very happy cause i am almost confident we will get at least a point at Nou camp anyway.
i predict a 3-2 victory for AC milan in san siro.

I just touched down in Singapore today to attend a week of conference and the local cable channel decides to show Chelsea - CSKA Moscow & Panathinaikos - Arsenal live and Milan - Barca on delayed telecast...
I've been to Singapore on numerous occasions and I understand the huge EPL following among the locals, but having the most mouth-watering CL tie of the week on delayed telecast??
Looks like Tiger Beer has pumped in tonnes of $$$ for TV rights... :devf: :devf: :devf:
Well, the good news is I'll be able to have around 6 hours of uninterrupted sleep till 5 am in the morning. The 2nd good news being Puyol is doubtful for this match.
Puyol out is not a good news... there is an excuse for losing then haha :)
anyway, Barca is a strong team, but yes, I'm worried if we are at home too, but our spanish away is not that impressive either, remember 4-0 by Deportivo? (although we have a 4-0 against them too)
Anyway, it's gonna be tight.
3 - 2

Dear Fellow Milanisti,
I live in Jakarta Indonesia, the heaven for all football fans, especially Serie A fans as we have 3 TV stations broadcasting them for free every week (7 matches on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday).
Wednesday and Thursadau morning games will also be broadcasted by other TV station here (RCTI) and I will nicely sit on my couch watching the best games in the universe for free of charge.
IMO, the Milan - Barca games will ended with draw (bothin San Siro and Barcelona)...why...????
Here are my thought :
1. Both Milan and Barca are the favorites in the group to pass onto next round (regardless who will be the group leader/champion) @ best teams in the group will pass on to the next (knock out) round.
2. Rykaard is one of the Dutch Legend who gave Milan many champions title and scudetti too (together with van Basten and Gullit) So he he has a lovely memory of Milan on his mind and shall keep it as it is. He is a good friend of Costacurta, Maldini and also Ancelotti and will keep the friendship without risking to loose or winning games between Milan and Barca.
3. If both teams could pass on without humiliation to each other then the best way is to make draw games...in San Siro and Camp Nou.
4. Other option is to make a deal that Milan would win in San Siro and later Barca win in Camp Nou.
So....once again I personally do not think theat they will killing eachother in their games but playing safe and risk free game or the most winning once in their home ground.
Just think this over..isn't this make sense as they will both pass to the next round (the knock out rounds)
What I will see onmy TV screen tomorrow would be a "friendly game" between 2 giant team. Rykaard will be given standing ovation from Milanisti when he enters the stadium while he will "cry and smile" to remember his golden years in the very same stadium wearing the Red and Black jersey.
Take care my Milanisti friends all over the world and enjoy the game with no over or underconfident feeling to winning or loosing the game.

don't agree, it'll be a total clash and playing at san siro, if you don't live up to the expectations of people in terms of beauty and commitment, it gets scary for a player to play in.so, with an amazing curva, with a worldwide audience and a match worthy to give the golden ball there won't be any fix at all.
i don't want to lose a game in my courtyard, let's imagine if such players want to give up before the kick off and fix a memorable match.

I will have to respectfully disagree. A draw can take place in either leg but not because of lack of emotion or effort. After all these are two European sides one of which has won each of the three European trophies in a special club with Juventus, Ajax and Bayern and the other is the side that WEARS the EUROPEAN STAR ... an honour that only Ajax, Bayern and Real have as well.
We are dealing with two clubs who might well end up play in Istanbul come May 2005.
All I know is that this is my Milan, it is our stadium, it is a big game, it is a big opposition, it is a European night, and it is ours for the taking! We are custom built for this. Rarely do we fail in matches like this on nights like this vs. opposition like this! Rally behind our great side and experience the magic that is Milan! Respect to Barca all the same.

Well, I'm in your "stupid" (to quote your own words :devf: ) country this week and I'm glad Channel 5 is showing this match.
Being a frequent traveller to Singapore (Due to work matters. I work in a big global investment company and Singapore is one of Asia's main financial hub), I'm amazed at the number of youngsters in Singapore who really dislike their country. At least you folks should appreciate Singapore's political stability and of course, the wonderful food! :delol:
Back to football, I watched the Channel 5 coverage of Liverpool - Deportivo and I'm quite impressed with the commentary by the local commentator (Mark Richmond). He has improved tremendously since the days when he was doing commentary for the S-League and the SEA games (Yup, I watch all those whenever I'm in Singapore :delol: ). What made it more impressive was his effort to pronounce the names of Liverpool's Spanish players in Castillan Spanish! :eekani: (GAR-THIA for Garcia, BAR-LEN-THIA for Valencia). Cool! I'm curious to see if Richmond can get the pronounciations right for the Brazilian names tonight (HO-NOW-JEE-NYOH for Ronaldinho, JEE-DAH for Dida etc), cause many commentators always get the Brazilian names wrong. :smileani:
It's lunch time at my office and I can't keep my mind focused on work. :grinser:

Can't wait any more. Milan won 2 goals. Warmly welcome Rijkaard: "You're always in our mind" But everything have changed now. Here is our home. We need goals to go. Milan will win here - San Siro.
:r14: :devf: :p017:
Im gettin more and more nervous every minute........btw they say the game is sold out at 76, 750.
I thought the San Siro holds 87,000 or are they still reconstructing the third tier which originally had a bad view because of the railing in the way????????
How much can the San Siro hold at present?? 77,000 or 87,000.

the point is there are some european rules regarding security into sportive arenas and places like this so the stadium can't be filled in every sit, but a good number of sits must be kept free in order to leave a security escape
that's why the record of milan juve of 1995 should be still unbeaten, and that was my first game at san siro... i was :sweeteye: :sweeteye: :sweeteye:

Well, I'm in your "stupid" (to quote your own words :devf: ) country this week and I'm glad Channel 5 is showing this match.
Being a frequent traveller to Singapore (Due to work matters. I work in a big global investment company and Singapore is one of Asia's main financial hub), I'm amazed at the number of youngsters in Singapore who really dislike their country. At least you folks should appreciate Singapore's political stability and of course, the wonderful food! :delol:

Wednesday and Thursadau morning games will also be broadcasted by other TV station here (RCTI) and I will nicely sit on my couch watching the best games in the universe for free of charge.
As usual, I will be begging to the pub owner to let his beers flow til 4am so I can sit on my regular stool while watching Milan play. Tonite’s a big nite so I’m sure the owner understands.
1. Both Milan and Barca are the favorites in the group to pass onto next round (regardless who will be the group leader/champion) @ best teams in the group will pass on to the next (knock out) round.
I don’t think Milan should be complacent with their present position and in general I don’t think Milan should be complacent in approaching any game, be it against Barcelona or smaller teams. The repetition of the Riazor Tragedy last season is something that I would not want to see again this season. :w221:
Pleasant memories and friendship is a good thing. Playing professional football is another thing altogether. I still can’t forget Ajax’s European Cup victory against in 1995 and Rijkaard’s big smile lifting that trophy. I don't think I'd want to see Rijkaard smile for the second time tonite. :)
They are the employees of their clubs and their job is to go for a victory. And in professional football, in fact, I strongly think it’s even a motivation to win against your former team and ex-colleagues. :musk:
3. If both teams could pass on without humiliation to each other then the best way is to make draw games...in San Siro and Camp Nou.
To lose is not humiliation. It is humiliation if they deliberately play at a mediocre level, for the purpose of gunning for a draw. I would really hate to see that happen. :1avs:
4. Other option is to make a deal that Milan would win in San Siro and later Barca win in Camp Nou.
This, my friend, is known as “match-fixing”, and as far as I know this activity is deemed illegal in football. More than that it would tarnish the reputation and dignity of the game and teams involved. Let’s pray this does not happen. :w221:
So....once again I personally do not think theat they will killing eachother in their games but playing safe and risk free game or the most winning once in their home ground.
They won’t be killing each other but with two teams like these, it is expected of them to fiercely compete for a win, their pride and integrity!
Just think this over..isn't this make sense as they will both pass to the next round (the knock out rounds)
Why wouldn’t it make sense? It’s not merely about going to the next round but rather, going into the next round with good conscience that you’ve earned it!
What I will see onmy TV screen tomorrow would be a "friendly game" between 2 giant team. Rykaard will be given standing ovation from Milanisti when he enters the stadium while he will "cry and smile" to remember his golden years in the very same stadium wearing the Red and Black jersey.
As I’ve said long time ago, Rijkaard has always been my favorite player and I have the utmost respect for the legend. And I’m very sure all Milan tifosi remember his contributions. But let’s face it, this is professional football at the highest level. Romance and nostalgia will have to be set aside for 90 minutes.
Take care my Milanisti friends all over the world and enjoy the game with no over or underconfident feeling to winning or loosing the game.
I will just be a bit disappointed but not much if Milan loses while giving all their hearts out in the game tonite. But of course, there are no ‘ifs’ here. It is imperative that Milan win this game and I will curse if they lose or draw it by playing below their capability.
FORZA MILAN!!!!

Deco blasts boring Milan :stupid: :dumpf:
" Barcelona star Deco has hit out at Wednesday's Champions League opponents AC Milan, accusing the Italians of playing boring football. The Portuguese midfielder said that Milan, widely seen as Italy's most exciting team, concentrating only on stopping the other team and relying on counter-attacks.
Despite boasting a dizzying array of offensive talent including Andriy Shevchenko, Kakà, Andrea Pirlo and Filippo Inzaghi, Deco says the rossoneri's safety-first mentality makes them dull to watch." :irritate: :w209:

Milan gives too much space for Barca players to run with ball.
Hows Kaka doing?
average like the team, but seems to pick up a little bit now.
Hows Kaka doing?
not bad, he got a few good passes but not much to do cause milan got too many players trying to do something inside barca half
Well Carlo is going to have to do something about the midfield, maybe Rui in place of Pippo?

yah. but barca also give a lot of space and only defend near the penalty box.

we need more bite in midfield. seem like only gatusso is capable of stopping the barca players.
Sorry to keep bugging you guys but hows Maldini doing at leftback, Pancaro would be perfect in this type of game ;)

Half time
I think adding another midfielder instead of Pippo (who I haven't even seen) will help us stop Barca's play in the middle.
They have dominated so far, but on a perfect counter Cafu was out wide and a great cross was met by Sheva to make it 1-0.
FORZA SHEVA!
FORZA MILAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Something tells me Dharosso could have been useful in the midfield for his work rate and quick passes. Doubt that will happen though.
Best players so far Cafu and Stam.
Our problems
1. Lack of secunda punta
2 midfield
are so blantant obvious.
Thanks god the rest of the team is world class.
Yeah but Rui could play on the right leaving gatusso free to tear up the middle, remember Rui on the right against Juve
i would prefer not to, cause gatusso is the one who keep destroying ronaldinho and deco on the right. we can't afford to move him away or else we will suffer on the right. pirlo is not doing a good job defending but good at attacking. maybe we should sub out pippo and put in ambro for more bite in midfield. or maybe put rui costa for pippo and let rui costa and pirlo try to do something in the middle.

I'd put Rui Costa for Pippo. This is because the numbers will cause trouble to Barca and his creative force will be of great benefit.

i would say its sheva, cafu, stam.
we certainly lack bite in midfield. pirlo seem to be more interested in moving forward. he make a very good tackle in the first few minutes and then no more good tackles already. he seem to take things too easy at times.
Good point about Ronie, but I definately dont wanna see Ambro, that would be too defensive. We want them to worry about our attacks aswel. Its a tough one for Carlo.
Thoug Milan scored the goal, there are too many errors in passes both from middle field players & some bad clearance from the defense, esp. Seedorf & Pirlo, who just put the balls blindly under the feet of Barca players several times!
The defense is OK but not very organised when Barca players with their short passes in our penalty box. It seems that our captain is more used to the CB than LB, our left side is quite open for opponent to run until the last meter before/near penalty area/bottom line.
Barca for the last 10 minutes caused quite a few chaotic situation in our penalty box. Barca plays very offensively. Milan looks too relaxed after Sheva's goal. A game lasts 90 minutes not 45 minutes!
If we don't shut down the space but let the Barca players run with balls and if we don't put more pressure on Barca and if we concentrate 100%, we will be in danger.
2nd HT starts. No change.
If we can just grind out a win or even a draw it will be good. Im sure we will dominate them at the Nou Camp. We aeem to play like the away team at the Sansiro these days :zany:

good summary. maldini really shouldn't move so back toward the centre. but he show his ability when we attack. we should just keep going forward like we have done for the 35 mins.

Nesta Stam and Paolino worked very well

Kakà not so brilliant, but Ricardo Izecson Santos Leite is a star...

and congrats to inter, 5-1 to valencia is incredible! forza italians!!! italy 2-0 spain! *proud*
damn that was a nailbiter! we played pretty crap to be fair. but i dont care because we got the 3 points! :D forzaaaaa milan!!
we were good for short spells. bascially i would say we are the better team before the goal. after the goal, the goal team shift back a gear and try to hold on. the start of the second half, we were on top for 10mins plus before we shift into second gear again. it seem to be that we are not interested in going for the kill. overall, barca is the better team tonight. they had to fight back from a goal down.

and juve seem to be doing well too. its seem like its going to be another italian year. after one poor international tournament, italian teams do well in CL. its a trend.

Chapeau for Barca, a great team, with a fantastic player, Ronaldhino.
But this night, this match says it is hard to beat Milan.
It was a workman-like performance for Milan, they got the full points, but sorry folks...I have to admit Barca were the better team tonight and they deserved a better result. They just did a better job in terms of dictating the play as opposed to our team just sitting back and soaking up the pressure. I can recall three very good chances for Barcelona, two posts and one shot just wide, and one tough save from Dida. I have no idea what the Barca keeper was thinking on Sheva's goal, and the defenders there just didn't want the ball more than Sheva.
I'll take the win, I'm just totally convinced right now. We'll see where we really stand after Sunday night.

The Catalunya press do not accept the result.
They contest referee for a penalty denied to Deco
They are shouting still because of the two bars.
MILAN said STOP :rone:
oopsie :v46: , I meant I'm NOT totally convinced.

penalty for Deco? don't make me laugh. who is going to give a penalty to a freaking diver? :ilol:
Good win, shut them down well for the most part.
Might be repeating something obvious from the game I know.... but the only thing that needs to be tinkered is the wide defending, facing a team with offensive players like Larsson, Eto'o, Ronaldinho, Deco (and Giuly if he was healthy) can't have a player like Cafu out of position, its too dangerous.

i just hope we are like last season. we start slowly and finish strongly. we can afford not to hit top form yet. we will see this weekend whether inter will give us the three points yet again.
i thought we played well. sheva was simply amazing, every1 else wuz average exept for stam who wuz magnificent and cafu played very well but wuz very poor in defense. lets hope for a win against inter

well, i think that it is perfectly fine for cafu and gatusso to stay on the right. instead its when ronaldinho move inside then we have problems because pirlo can't contain him and seedorf is very busy moving all over the pitch. either pirlo improve start putting more efforts in defending or we need ambro to replace him.
No we don't need Ambro, because he can't play football for God's ake. he isn't even a Italian NT player (and their midfield is piss poor).
Why can't fvckin Galliani at least ONCE invest in an Albertini/Desailly/Rijkaard again.
I'm ****in sick of this disgusting midfield performances.

no point saying thing like that now. pirlo have to really work hard to reproduce the kind of form he is capable of.

You are right but the thing is it becomes an issue even behind Pirlo closer to goal (whether or not he can a handle a Ronaldinho in the middle) so many offensive players sort of dummy to the middle if only one of them darts back to left or right and there is not enough cover then trouble, exactly like the play leading up to Larsson hitting the bar.

the only solution i can think of if we play like the first 10 mins of the second half. we just keep on attacking and breathe down their necks, they got no reply to that at all but once we start moving back and give them the balls, trouble start. luckily stam is always there to protect the centre. nesta should move to the right to cover cafu when he move up. maldini would move back and form something like a 3 men defence.
another thing is the clearances. why do our players clear so weakly? this is barca not reggina. it seem to me that our players still want to keep possession of the balls instead of clearing away the danger. we should always clear the balls out and then try to win it back again. this is a case of our players being too over-confident.
its a great 3 points and a good performance but we can play better. im glad to say that stam was magnificent. barcalona were undefeated coming into this match having scored in every game. i was surprised we went defensive for the last 20 mins of 2nd half considering we were playing so well at the start of second half. We limited barca to only three genuine chances but they were very unlucky not to score. would a draw have been a fairer result? perhaps but we had the goal lead and perhaps we took the sensible option to defend. if barca had equalised, we would have become more attacking again and when the score was 0-0 we were creating the more chances. to conclude a good nights work.

Completely agree with you. I would only add that we were probably saving some energy for the Milan derby this weekend and this is why we got back after we scored the goal especially in the last 20min of the second half.

saving energy? perhaps you could be right. its hard to say. after seeing highlights of Inter tonight we will need all our energy. can't wait for the derby it's going to be a classic.
I think Pirlo deserves a break, he is trying to dictate the play of a team that seems to be lacking confidenc and fluidity at the moment. Once the players around him wake up and start performing he will make things tick.
