View Full Version : Cagliari - Milan (post-game comments)
Cagliari 0 - 1 AC Milan
Pirlo 20 mins
nice 3 pts!
FORZA MILAN!!!
The perfect result. Not exactly the perfect display but it has to do with two very important games coming up. :dcool:
3 points and a clean sheet. I can't ask for more. :devf:
Interestingly, we picked up 3 points and clean sheets in the league when:
1. We were playing away.
2. We were playing in the all white kit.
3. We were playing against "Rossoblu" opponents.
Considering that we will be playing another "Rossoblu" opponent in Barca on Wednesday, can we play in the all white kit even though we will be playing at home? :delol:
I agree with you, Haroon.. Our players looked pretty tired, and the pitch was so slippery as numbers of players were loosing their footing.
anyway we did what we should.. controlling the whole game by seizing the ball possession as long as possible. tho sometimes our old defenders caught by Cagliari's young players.

Tired ? - For me it looked like they did not really want to put a 100% effort in this match. The most easy passes failed, but at least our defense seemed very very secure, always covering eachother.
3 points .. great .. but tomorrow I hope I have forgotten this match :)
good three points and goal of the season from pirlo but certainly not vintage milan.
were lucky that costacurta wasnt send off for the last man tackle. he didnt get the ball. thought brocchi played well. Its a valuable 3 points though and considering we had only argueably 6 of the 1st 11 starting namely dida, nesta , maldini , pirlo, seedorf and shevchenko it is very postive.

Guys we have Barca and Inter in the next days, don't ask brilliant play to our guys, as said before CLEAN SHEET and 3 POINTS AWAY..let's focus on the next game. the important was to rest some players and take the max with the minimum effort

Milan played with 35 % of what they have , for sure they saved the energy for Barca game.. FORZA MILAN!! ..
One of the laziest matches I've seen in a while by Milan, they're definetly saving up energy for the Barca game.
I'm glad we finally got a clean sheet and got the 3 points, even though we barely did anything.
Nesta is my MOM.

I'm not normally one to criticise Milan, but I have to say that that was a poor performance today. The only player to have a decent game was Brocchi, and that suggests to me that either he was more willing to play because he doesn't get many chances or he was more able to play because he was less tired. On today's showing I thought Milan were lazy - Seedorf's touches were heavy and there was generally little movement in the team. They weren't so much playing for the 1-0 as settling for it. How can it be down to tiredness so early in the season, for pity's sake we have something like 9 games in the next 29 days. They need a good kick up the arse and, it pains me to say it, but maybe its coming from Barca or Inter. Or maybe Gattuso can just literally give all of his team-mates a good boot up the arse! We keep on hearing that the real milan will soon return, but which is the real Milan?
We keep on hearing that the real milan will soon return, but which is the real Milan?
I'd wait for the next 2 games. If we don't change our game then THIS (today) apparently is the real Milan.
We still rely on
NESTA
CAFU
KAKA
SHEVA
(used to be INZAGHI and MALDINI too, but imo a bit too old now).
The less of them play(or more of them have an off day), the worse we play.
Tomasson as an example was a fantastic 60+ minute sub striker but he's simply average as a starter. Now we lack a partner for Sheva; instead of buying one we went for Crespo whom management wants to ship off now in January - was very predictable.
And our midfield is still slow and static as hell + we desperately need Baraja or Maniche in central to reduce the constant pressure on the central defense which obviously leads to mistakes and goals.
And this argument "Milan plays attractive offensive football with a deep lying regista and no boring ballwinners" simply doesn't cut it for me any more.
If today's game was offensive football then hell give me 11 ball winners....
No one seems to compliment Ancelotti when he finally uses some rotations...
and guess what, if we put on the starting XI in this game and then again against Barca, and we became tired because of the Caglieri match, people will start screaming, "Why didn't Ancelotti rotate his players?"
It's easy to criticize, but learn to apprecaite.

And yeah pirlo scored.
that was one of the most boring games i have ever scene coupled with one sweet goal :)
Brocchi is under appreciated at Milan. He is in the mould of Gattuso except he is more skillful with the ball and can cross. Nice win.
The pressure was high. Barca and Inter coming up, but also that Messina lost yesterday, meaning that Milan could ( and should ) pass them today -
I think they did very wel. Not really great, but they did what they had to do - I'm satisfied.
With points at stake, I'll take a boring even lazy win over an exciting loss. Considering the matches coming up, sometimes you have to do just what is necessary and no more. One match isn't a trend.

I completely agree...we played at a pedestrian pace but controlled the game for almost the entire 90 minutes.
Cagliari did have some posessions and attacks on the counter, but only the break away which was mysteriously :eekani: missed/ignored :dconf: :haha: by the ref represented any real threat from the newly promoted team.
I dont mind wins like this especially when Carlo has opted to field some squad players, and we are embarking on a critical set of matches in a short time frame.
3 points is what I asked Milan for, and no matter how we looked, we got them, while playing on cruise control, away, and against a packed defense...now on to Barca and Inter!
(Saw Barca in the derby yesterday, and though their attack is potent, they are not unstoppable, and I am not as :nervous:worried as I was b4 :devf: )

I agree with those who say the win is what counts.
There are definately more positives than negatives from todays match.
Negatives first..
- Not a great performance
- errr...defence was shaky at times
Positives...
- 3 points
- we keep up with Juve even though they're in peak performance and were far from ours
- clean sheet
- We don't rely on Sheva or Kaka for goals
- Squad players performed well
- Players haven't used too much energy and should be well prepared for Barca and Inter
so there we have it, we should be glad about todays result, as thats what counts.
FORZA PIRLO!
FORZA MILAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i don't think a single person here is complaining :D but i almost fell asleep watching the game. i was just pretty impressed with Brocchi though. JDT looked asleep in the game and Shevchenko looked like he was thinking of Ronaldinho and Deco :)
yea, we definetly need a partner for sheva and it looks like its gonna b gilardino.

brocchi did realli well..winning the ball like nobodies business..i thot i was seeing gattuso in disguise ( wifout the beard :ilol: )very entertaining football by brocchi..nice skills too...he should play more often
as for our defence..i feel they did a pretty gd job..managing some effective last min tackles to save dida the trouble...almost impreganable...its goooood :rock3:
Considering carlo rotated the squad...n our key players got to rest... overall performance was satisfactory....n since we have ended the unbeaten home streak of the sardinians...now its time to end the catalan's unbeated run. :ilol: :ilol: :ilol:

Terrible performance.
Maybe Milan pay more attention this midweek against barca. Great idea.
But the performance lack of spirit to score.
After pirlo's goal(the only one), I think there's only barca match in the players mind.
That's Ok, we still get 3 pts from saint elia.
This midweek, Prove that strategy (ag. cagliari) effect pretty result.
If milan's performance dont change much better, barca could get a party in san siro !!
Beware of barca's 10 !
Like everybody else, I am happy about the result but not satisfied with our performance.
In my opinion, it has nothing to do with players being lazy, or tired, or saving themselves for next week, etc.
Milan did not have a good and solid "pre-season" preparation, and the players are still not in good physical shape, six weeks into the season. Instead of concentrating on good conditioning and fitness, they had to go around the world playing "exhibition games" for the money. The result: poor fitness. I know some are saying we should not "peak" too early, leave some energy for the long season, etc. Frankly, I do not believe so. Players should be at 100% by now, and I fault lack of good training - eventually it is the responsibility of the coaches, trainers and managers.
Of course, sooner or later, they will get into proper gear and "play their hearts out" - then we will finally see the real Milan.
Brocchi's good performance is not surprising to me: he is a capable and hard working player, and could be a starter with most teams in the league.
i don't think a single person here is complaining :D but i almost fell asleep watching the game. i was just pretty impressed with Brocchi though. JDT looked asleep in the game and Shevchenko looked like he was thinking of Ronaldinho and Deco :)
Totally agree with you :tired:

Why don't we put it in this way:
"IF Marca performance don't change much better (as they do against Espanol), Milan could get a party in San Siro!!"
That's how you change your mentality.
The game is in your mind.
