Chievo 0 - 1 Milan
Crespo 50 (M)
Stadio Bentegodi
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Rossoneri have the opportunity to close in on leaders Juventus this weekend with the Derby d'Italia, but first they faced a tricky trip to the Stadio Bentegodi. Once again, Hernan Crespo was the only healthy striker available as Andriy Shevchenko, Jon Dahl Tomasson and Pippo Inzaghi are out injured. The Argentine has scored three goals in his last games between the Coppa Italia and Champions' League, so he was hoping to break his Serie A duck as well.
Chievo also had problems upfront, as Amauri is suspended, Federico Cossato and Sergio Pellissier struggling with minor injuries, but the hitman was able to start. It was a particularly special occasion for Coach Mario Beretta - a lifelong Milan fan.
The first shot on goal came after six minutes when Kaka's piledriver was smothered on the second attempt by Luca Marchegiani, then Manuel Rui Costa's effort was saved and Massimo Ambrosini nodded Marcos Cafu's cross wide.
Chievo were also dangerous when crucial challenges from Alessandro Nesta and Massimo Ambrosini were required on Cossato and Matteo Brighi inside the area.
It was a more open game as the first half wore on, as Crespo's volley was just wide, then Roberto Baronio's curling free kick went round the wall and past Dida, but the Milan goalkeeper was saved by the woodwork.
The Flying Donkeys hit the frame of the goal for the second time in a couple of minutes with Simone Tiribocchi's fierce strike after Cossato's smart lay-off.
Marchegiani did well to stop Rui Costa's deflected effort, then Seedorf sprung the offside trap on Kaka's fine pass and the veteran goalkeeper fingertipped it round the post from eight yards.
Cossato attempted to backheel Marco Malago's cross into the net, but couldn't quite get himself prepared in time.
Crespo has well and truly broken through his crisis, scoring his first Serie A goal with a Milan jersey moments after the restart. He combined with Kaka' and a lucky deflection left him free to sweep home from just inside the box.
The former Chelsea star had been bitterly criticised since his summer move, but has now scored in all three competitions over the last seven days.
Dida performed a magnificent save on Baronio's free kick, as it took a massive deflection off Seedorf and the Brazilian did well to change direction mid-air.
The goalkeeper was again decisive on Baronio's set-piece, then Mandelli's sliding tackle stopped Crespo turning in Kaka's low cross.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chievo: Marchegiani; Moro, Mandelli, D'Anna, Lanna; Semioli, Baronio (Zanchetta 80), Brighi, Malagò (Luciano 72); Tiribocchi (Pellissier 57), Cossato
Milan: Dida; Cafu, Nesta, Maldini, Kaladze; Dhorasoo, Ambrosini, Seedorf (Gattuso 78); Rui Costa, Kakà; Crespo
Ref: Collina

Guys Dida has made the best save of the whole Serie a
It's something incredible, you all must see..
Baronio's shoot was deflected by a Milan defender, Dida was going to one side of the goal, then he suddenly dived in the opposite side to save the ball with one and..it was practically inside
UN-BE-LIE-VA-BLE SAVE
yah that save was awesome. wait till you see it in the highlights. he made two spectacular saves in this game.
my player ratings
Dida (9/10) - two spectacular saves and came out to pick all the crosses. never was out of place.
Cafu (6.5/10) - pacy as always but occassionally missing in defence.
Nesta(6.5/10) - two bad slips almost cost milan a goal. he recovered well to prevent a SURE goal after his first slip. had he not, his rating would have been much lower. also cased a professional foul to earn a yellow. maldini and nesta have a superb technical understanding of each other.
Maldini(6.5/10)- solid as always. nothing exceptional. no big mistakes. ran ahead of nesta to make sure nesta wouldn't get a red when he committed the professional foul.
Kaladze(6/10) - still a bit shaky but the more he plays the better. almost scored a goal.
Dhorasoo(8/10) - Continues to impress fans and detractors alike. beautiful close control skills, perfect crosses and able to thread passes to the forwards skillfully. needs a few more games to get the hang of the big league. watch out for this guy.
Ambrosini(7/10) - played to his strengths and kept a lock on milan midfield. reminds me of albertini back in the day.
Seedorf (6.5/10)
Gattuso 78 (unrated)
Rui Costa(8/10) - again showing that he is not a has-been. the more he plays, the better he gets. carlo should ignore silvio and play him alongside kaka. his style is similar to kaka's so they add a dimension to each other's play.
Kakà(7.5/10) - his runs can only be stopped by crowding him out and this time the crowd-out technique only caused the ball to ricochet to crespo and crespo scored.
Crespo (8/10) - really finding his best form again. 4 goals in 3 games. scores his first serie A goal. really helping ease the pressure on sheva. now, i await to see the sheva - crespo combo.
Pirlo (unrated)
dida is a great keeper looking forward to seeing that save tonight, the save ill always remember from him was from zalayeta against juve 2 seasons ago a match i was at. i was sure it eas going in but going the wrong way he still managed to save it
thanks for the ratings nadir

I just want to point out that our sub players are improving now... Dhorasoo, Crespo and Ambrosini played very well..

special mention for Kakà
what an amazing player he is! i can say i wanted him signed since so many motnhs before he came , joined in his signing champaign by Jim_UK and i must tell that, as we IRONICALLY say in Italy, i could be gay for Kakà
All in all, Milan played a pretty good match and there was a lot of movement on the field. I do not like to "rate" players with arbitrary numbers, but it is clear that Dida saved the day and was sensational.
No one performed badly, but the defense was shaky at times and Chievo has their opportunities. Midfield was good, with Dhorasso an intelligent and hard working little devil, Rui Costa the traffic director, and Kaka always inspired. Crespo was in the right place when needed, and he is regaining his confidence.
May be not "Grande Milan" but "Bene Milan" today.
Also the blond lady in the RAI "Giostra Del Gol" program looks great and is an inspiration to all of us who have to wake up at 5.30 a.m. to watch the game. When this young woman says "wuwuwu" (for www) you know there is a God somewhere looking for football fans.

Very good performance by Milan today with some of our players like Dhorasoo, Kaka, Ambro, and above all Dida made a great impression. In the first half, for the last 15-20mins, our defence looked a bit out of sorts but this was the result of the rest of the team - midfield and attack - being taken out of the game by Chievo. This resulted in Dida and the other 4 in defence taking all the heavy blows. In the second part Milan played much much better and our midfielders all contributed immeansely for that - Ambro was the backbone along with Dhorasoo, who proved a vital link between defence and attack, Rui with his great ball-possession skills although a bit slow at times for Kaka's thundering counter attacks, and of course the Brazilian wonder kid who was his usual last-season self today. Only Seedorf seemed a bit out of sorts today but still had a good game. Crespo was not brilliant but was almost always on the right spot and this was how the goal came. Very good and fruitful game for him too.
ON A SIDE NOTE: Have you checked out the official Milan site? This is some rediculous cr_ap by the Milan webmaster. Not sure who is responsible for this site but it is by far the worst and crappiest there is out there.

Overall, did Milan play as well as they did in their second half against Shakhtar?

about these ratings Nesta must get 5 and Kaladze the same - Nesta did rarely manage to pass to a Milan player within 10 meters and his marking was abit hopeless. Kaladze looked so so slow on the pitch .. also had problems
Dhorasoo along with Ambro the best on the field ... and yes .. of course also Dida :D
I'm glad we win the game against chievo altho it is only one goal
wining and get 3 points is most important but we need to play
better in the next game. glad dida is back to his good performs

Never thought I would ever say it but I LOVE Inter Merda. Wow, they drew Juve 2-2 after trailing 0-2 15mins before the final whistle. The game was virtually in a dead-end for Juve had scored twice and were slowing down proceedings and Inter looked gloomy and disorganized. But then, after Vieri and Recoba came on, Inter was up and running again and scored twice in a matter of minutes. Nice to see Juve waste a 2 goal lead. It is a 4-point gap now. As for Inter they can kiss the title goodbye.
i was so nervous when i was watching inter playing. after 2:2, a corner by miha caused some chaos, buffon dropping the ball, at that time, how i wished that somebody, anybody scored! even if it was an own goal by like, cannavaro :D
now we can count on lazio to give DOPENTUS some trouble. last year, if i recall correctly, DOPENTUS lost to inter and lazio in a row, and this year, at least please drop 4 points!

Well, great result today.
Dida was simply superb and looked unbeatable. One save that I can't forget is the one off a freekick where he moves one way, has to dive the other to tip the ball over the bar even though it looks like its already in. First contender for mom
Kaladze seemed to start ok, but really became quiet after Chievo started dominating in the first half.
Cafu was quieter today than normal, but didn't play too badly at all. As Nadir rightly said, a few times caught out of position.
Nesta was a little disappointing. However, this is not to say he was really bad, just that by his standards, it was a poor match.
Maldini was a bit better than Nesta. Solid, but not spectacular.
Ambro had a good game. Very important part of the Milan side today and argubly his best performance of this season. Unlucky not to score as well.
Dhorasoo pretty much controlled play today. Very good performance and often integral in Milan's build up play. Performed a role similar to Pirlo very well. Argubly mom.
Seedorf was good in the first half, often creating chances as well as shooting a couple of times. Became a little quiet in the second half.
Rui was very good in the first half and added a lot of creativity to the side. His passing was good and shooting too. Like Seedorf, became quieter in the second half.
Kaka was great imo. Fast on the ball often causing problems in the heart of the Chievo defence. Got a lucky assist to Crespo's goal. Shooting was also excellent, but not on the scoresheet today. First half was quieter than the second, but played a good part throughout the match. Another contender for mom.
Crespo was like the old Crespo today. Always causing trouble with his movement and predatory instinct. Scored the vital goal as well to top off a great week for him. Hopefully, him and Sheva will be deadly when together.
The team started brilliantly, looking like the goal would come at any point. However, Chievo were dangerous and controlled the play for a lot of the first half and were a little unlicky not to score, as were Milan. During this half, the defence seemed quite shaky but held out. The second half was much better where an early goal eased tension and the team controlled play well. Possession was a key factor in our win today and it was great to see the team hold possession well at the end of the match, when it was of vital importance.
Thanks to our cousins as well, who managed a draw (thats new  :D ) against the zebras. 4 points is all thats in it, not much if you ask me ;)
FORZA CRESPO!
FORZA IN...no, I can't bring myself to say it :D . I'll just say thank you Inter ;)
FORZA MILAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Milan won a cruical game today in the face of the Inter-Juve clash that would have serious repercussions whatever the outcome. Thankfully, Inter managed a draw(whats new rite?), meaning Juve is now only 4 points away.
With the heavy match-load that this scudetto season represents, 4 points is not a lot to overcome, and is much more accessible than 5 points. Every single point counts when you are clawing back an opponent ahead of you in the standings, and while this draw (and our win) means we are a little closer, we still have it all to do, but at least we can see the payoff of our efforts.
We still have to win all our matches, and hope that Juve draw or lose a couple, but with Crespo scoring, and Kaka showing a return to last-season's form, our confidence is growing, and with it, our chemistry and commitment.
Dhorasso's selection to start was an inspired move by Carlo, indeed, his lineup, based on our current striker situation was brilliant, and I thought resting Pirlo was probably just the thing the Italian international midfielder needed.
A good show by all, including the coach.
FORZA MILAN! Bring on Parma!

There's no sleep for me as I watched both Chievo-Milan and Inter-Juve games last night. And it was amazing feeling when Adriano scored the equalizer very late in the game since it would help us close the gap on Juve.
Back to the Chievo game, it was an open and entertaining game of attacking football at an estatic pace. We dominated possession with almost perfect passes. I agree with most of what's been said here. Dida was phenomenal with stunning saves. Dorhasoo was amazing. He was fast and skillful. More than once, he dribbled past Chievo defenders with ease. He also made important tackles and played good in defense. I reckon we'll see more of him in the games to come.
Having agreed with most of what's been said here, I now like to come to the defense of Nesta a bit. I reckon he didnt play all that bad. Alright, he slipped and got past once but to say his marking was hopeless was a bit too much IMO. Maldini also slipped last night and allowed Chievo winger to cut in and make a cross. Our midfield was committed to attacking last night. So were Cafu and Kaladze. Much space was conceded to Chievo attackers. By allowing two the two full-backs make forward runs that often, sometimes our wings were caught quite exposed by the oponent fast wingers. Since we played an attacking game this would be the risk we would have to take. Kaladze was far from his best form. He was slow last night. Although he made some forward runs (that included a shot on goal), his covering and understanding with Maldini were not good.
All in all, i think we played a good game. Although not 100% flawless, we fully deserved the 3 points. And hell yeah!! Juve lost some ground- 2 goals in 6 mins --> i started to love our cousins :v103: . Okay guys, i am off to bed.
Forza Milan !!!

Milan midfielder Vikash Dhorasoo put in another fine display in the 1-0 win over Chievo on Sunday.
“I am happy with the way I played and the outcome of the game,” he was quoted as saying on the club’s official site. “The important thing is to have a positive game but the three points count for more.
“I am glad to have overcome any doubts about my style of play, it’s all about speed and movement. I can play any position on the pitch, I played on the left at Palermo and on the right today. I was used to playing different roles in France.”
That's the way everyone should play, imo.

I' d like to share just one thought I had yesterday, after that pk called against Inter. Did you remember our first game in Serie A this season, Milan vs. Livorno? Well, the ref show the red card to Dida in a very similar circumstance. And Milan played with 10 men for almost 90 minutes against a side desperate to impress their fans at San Siro. :nunu:

BTW, talking about "LA Grand Giostra dei Gol", where is miss D'Amico, who run the show until last season? Once I met her here in São Paulo, in 1999, when they decided to do a trip to South America (Brazil and Argentina) to met former Serie A stars, like Antonio Careca, Falcão etc. Even Felipão was there, speaking an almost incomprehensible Italian. :-D
I can only second what most people have said, great game for Milan. 3 points and some evidence of players hitting form just when we need it. A couple of notes:
- Why was not Pozzi included on the bench? What would have happened if Crespo got injured? :(
- D'horasoos fanclub should be growing by the minute. Played very well as part of the team (with Ambro taking a deeper role) and make some Chieve players look like they had elephant feet. :)
- Can't they make a jersey for D'horasoo in his size? The one he was wearing was definately too long ;)
Forza Milan finally we are no more having striking problem since crespo has find his predatory touch again. Dida was very Amazing today, well done dida
and Dhorasoo was excellent today i really like him.and once more again i say well done to fabolous kaka.guys don't u think it will dhorasoo plays better than pirlo
now we close our gap with Juventus

nothing compared to EPL which has already reached Mars though
Now only 4 points from Juve! Next game-next victory Parma-Milan 0-1 or 2 Go boys! It`s good that we could beat Chievo in Verona, I`m so happy! JUve-Inter 2-2 it`s good! though I expected victory from Inter yesterday but anyway 1 point is not bad! :nana: :1avs:
- Why was not Pozzi included on the bench? What would have happened if Crespo got injured? :(
Isn't Pozzi (i) injured and (ii) on loan to Napoli?
I did wonder about the injury thing when I saw Crespo rubbing his thigh and grimacing. I guess in a pinch Kaká could play as sole striker. Or maybe Seedorf or Gattuso. :D

VERONA - Match winner Hernan Crespo spoke to the Milan Channel after the Chievo encounter: ’It was a tough game, particularly rough, I came off with a few knocks but everything went well. We pleased to get a result at a difficult ground, this evening we can watch Inter and Juventus is relaxed fashion. We suffered in this game but that’s normal after three hard matches. Chievo play good football, are quick off the mark, get forward, we need to be more on the ball but it was a very important victory.’

Exactly. Kick Gattuso and Seedorf out. Or maybe just Gattuso. He is not fast, he basically has no ball technique He lost more passing (YES ADMIT IT DUDE WATCH THE GAME HE PLAYED AGAINST SHARKSTAR) than others.
Be realistic. World Class is not just movement and speed. They are very essential but not sufficient. Skills, teamwork, technique... I'm not saying Dhorasaoo is bad, nor am I saying Gattuso is bad either.
Since you never mention any other player, then I'm not going to do that too. But you see, I really don't see how your argument stands.

I think Bayman is entitled to his own opinions like the rest of us. He prefers the way Dhorasoo plays and I don't see anything wrong with that. After watching Dhorasoo played against Chievo, I had to re-evaluate my opinions of him, especially about his "random" movements in the games prior to Chievo. The last game showed that Dhorasoo is indeed a very technical player and his runs seem to make more sense now (for me, at least...). And I did not think he would last the full 90 minutes. He did.
In regards to the critique on certain players, we can't really compare Dhorasoo to Gattusso or even Seerdof. They are very different players. And I think Gattusso and Pirlo needed the rest. Anyway, the only person that comes to mind when I saw Dhorasoo played was Littbarski but I'm sure many would think otherwise. :)
It's good to rest over-regular midfielders such as Gattusso and Pirlo in that game, and give the team a fresh sense of direction. But we also should not forget that players are just part and parcel of the team's techniques for the day. Different players are installed for some and most, but not all, of the games. There's also the factor in which the style of play that our opponents play does matter. So, it won't boil down to only one or two players to decide the course of the game.
Of course, I'm sure all of you know this already. :lala:
I think Bayman is entitled to his own opinions like the rest of us. He prefers the way Dhorasoo plays and I don't see anything wrong with that.
Nope... nothing wrong with that of cousre. I am sure all of us welcome his timely comment on Pirlo.

Point taken.
Actually, I was referring to Bayman's comment on Dhorasoo in this thread "Chievo Milan Post Game", and not his comment on Pirlo which is in the "Dhorasoo makes case for himself" thread, which was after the Shakhtar Donesk game.
Or maybe I got it all mixed up. Cheers.
Dhorasoo was super in that game IMO I seen him in Milan only few times he always palyed good exept Shaktar-Milan(that day his game was aiwfull)! :1d31:
This is not about a set starting 11. D'horasoo playing well gives Milan more options.
Personally I feel that Pirlo does better in open games (away games and games against quality sides), where his skills are usefull in starting counter attacks.
D'horasoo seems very usefull in the "must win" games where the opponents are playing 10 men behind the ball, for 2 reasons. 1) He is quick with the ball at his feet 2) It is almost impossible for a ref not to award a free kick when he goes down. Seriously, the guy is so small. Imagine Materazzi doing to D'horasoo what he did to Sheva. D'horasoo would have landed somewhere in Curva Sud ;)
I will give some more moedrate ratings compared to Nadirs very generous ones.
Dida 8. He had some great saves, he did all that was needed and saving the deflected freekick was ore than that.
Cafu 6. Did nothing special in either side of the pitch, he was kind of "missing" in this game and didn't look as decisive.
Nesta 5.5. While the overall play was not bad he slipped several times that could very well have costed us the win. He is unfortunate that Chievo doesn't have any strikers.
Maldini 6.5. Solid game from him.
Kaladze 6.5. also pretty solid, he coped really well in one-one-ones, but didn't really do much in the offense.
Dhorasoo 7. Good game and he showed the same things as before. Had a great pass to Crespo, but Crespo failed to do anything but dive.
Ambrosini 6.5. I am unsure of how to rate him, if I go by his defensive work he should have a higher, but he slowed down our play and limited our offense more than helped it.
Seedorf 6. Solid game, did some good things, but nothing special. Could have scored a offside goal...
Rui Costa 6. he only got that for his first 20 minutes. He was really good then, but after that he faded. In the second half he was almost contraproductive as he slowed down some of our counters which made them vanish into the thin air.
Kaka 6.5. Looks a bit more in shape, but still lacks that decisive moments that he showed against Shaktar and we where spoiled of last year.
Crespo 6.5. Had a pretty good match and did what was needed, brought us the 3 points.

i don't know why dhorasoo must be compared with pirlo. they are quite different in their playing style. the first thing i noticed when i watch dhorasoo is his speed and close control of the ball. short passes were good but he almost never do long passes. there was quite a few times when i questioned why didn't he pass the ball to the other side of the field where there are more space to attack. i suggested pirlo should be rested since i don't know when, finally he is getting it. Dhorasoo should played the next few games else it would be very unfair to both him and pirlo.

I agree that Dhorasoo is not the same as Pirlo, but I think that people see him as one of the few alternatives to Pirlo that we have. He is able to Pirlo's role (not as effectively imo), but when he plays, he plays using his own style rather than the same way as Pirlo. I think another factor people like about him being able to play Pirlo's role is that he provides a new/unique style of play to the team.
To be honest, as I've said before, he can play in Pirlo's role, but I don't think as well and even then, when I see Carlo playing him this year, he does not put Dhorasoo in Pirlo's role, but adjusts the system to accomodate him and the side without Pirlo. When Pirlo doesn't play, his jobs are usually shared between the players (really, we play in a different way altogether, but Pirlo's responsibilities cannot be discarded from the play either way) on the pitch and therefore its noticeable to see someone like Dhorasoo do something Pirlo may normally do (like being a fundamental directing force in the build up play).
Personally, I think Dhorasoo is actually best suited to play in Seedorf's role, as his variety of skills can be used (both offensive and defensive).
