Alright, just under 5 minutes to kick off
Here's the lineup:
Dida
Coloccini - Nesta - Maldini - Costacurta
Brocchi - Ambrosini - Dhorasoo
Rui -- Serginho
Sheva
Happy to see Coloccini, Dhorasoo and Rui start. Notice that this is the 3rd position that Dhorasoo will play in this season. He played in Pirlo's position, and Gattuso/Brocchi's position before. Now he's starting on the left, damn this guy impresses me day by day.
A draw would get us through, but i'd give anything to see Rui score the winner today :).
7' Cristian Brocchi finds Andriy Shevchenko in Milan's first significant spell of possession, but he is forced to turn back and the move comes to nothing.
Exciting, too bad I can't see the game, Espn are showing Porto - Chelski :(

The team looks a bit too defensive. Reminds me of the team in the second game against Barca. The only Milan midfielders that are good at scoring are Kaka and Seedforf , who have both been left out. So this a line-up with only one striker and no midfielder who can score. And wtf is Serginho starting? He is only good as a substitute player. Don't really know whar Carlo is thinking.
Shaktar have scored against Barca! :)

Shaktar - Barcelona 1-0
12' A fantastic crossfield pass by Rui Costa creates a chance for the Ukrainian international Shevchenko. Magnus Hedman saves well in goal for Celtic.

15' Milan display their excellent passing and close control, probing the Celtic defence. Shevchenko fails to control in a dangerous position after a good ball from Serginho.

18' Serginho is denied by Neil Lennon as he looks dangerous again down the left wing for Milan.

19' Serginho (Milan) hits the crossbar. A wonderful effort from the Brazilian as he runs onto a long ball behind the Celtic defence. The ball hits the underside of the crossbar and is cleared for a corner.

Sounds like it's all Serginho.
31' Serginho is everywhere and a pass from Vikash Dhorasoo nearly gives him a chance to shoot from close range - his touch is heavy and Celtic relieve the pressure momentarily.

Mmm doubts and more doubts over this Milan side :(. Why do we always play for a draw in the first half, and try to win it in the 2nd? Im expecting a Kaka goal in the 80th minute although i hoped for a Rui goal. I expect Crespo to come on for a midfielder.. most likely Rui :(

who cares about this game anyway? With Barca being down 0-2 we have nothing to play for anymore.
Unfortunately we can't rest Maldini/Nesta as we don't have any defenders on bench.
Valencia and Porto looking to be the big loosers tonight and in the first round.
Let's see what scalps tomorrow brings.
Second half starts no substitutions!
You can allways take off Maldini or Nesta and move Serginho down in the defence, moving Coloccini in centrally. Not that it will happen...
PS. Sorry Bayman, I edited where I was trying to quote, rectified now :)
47' Serginho (Milan) is adjudged to be in an offside position. Again the Brazilian is looking to threaten the Celtic goal, but he is caught just offside.
48' corner kick for celtic
52' foul from behind on shevchenko no card given
52' Celtic are finding it difficult to break down the committed and experienced Milan defence, with Maldini, Costacurta and Nesta displaying composure and confidence in possession.

Time to rest Sheva and bring in Crespo, imo.

80' Seedorf for Rui
But if Valencia are out, second placed teams so far are CSKA, Bremen and PSV. No overly tough opponent.

one tear to one eye? what happened to the other? :ilol: :ilol:
Bayman, your favorite Valencia midfield showed its class once more today as they have been doing all season long. I definately think we should sign Baraja Vicenta and Albelda now that they need the money after they disqualified...

Fantastic indeed, but then we lost to Deportivo last year when the road was clear to the finals...

No need for this change should of left Dhorasoo in for the full 90 minutes. Oh well maybe Kaka will score the game winner.
89' kaka and serginho try to combine but they lose the ball
i don't think porto will be a big threat, but somehow i do not want to see them qualifying. i firmly believe they robbed us of one trophy. (don't argue with me about that. :D)
90' coner kick for milan!!
serginho shoots over the bar

LOL
He'll blame the coach.
Yers this is one thing.
But Albelda didn't even play and Vicente only came on mid 2nd half after long injury.
Add to that, the rest of the team is pretty average compared to Milan.
LOL
He'll blame the coach.
I surely blame ranieri. He had a firm spanish side and brought too much italians, so now he has a team he cant manage (no offense to italians, but they r not what valencia needs). He had trouble with injuries, and today no luck with offsides and woodwork, but still...
As for milan, didnt see the game, seems like serginho is written all over it. We got what we wanted and that matters...
No matter what.. Milan is through and that's the important thing.
One more thing. Whoever says "Milan play like s***" should look at what hapen to Barcelona today. I know you'll say they play second string ;)

Milans 2nd team would beat Barca's second team every day of the week (in fact only Chelski and Inter can compare benches with Milan)
I thought we played quite well tonight, some of our reserve players played very well icluding dhoraso and ambroisini etc. The 18 Irish international Aiden McGeady played very well too I think. He gave Colocinni, brocchi and amboisini a hard time of it and was unlucky with a shot early on.
I am disappointed that Celtic didnt qualify for the uefa cup though. I was talking to my uncle on the phone before the match, he is a big celtic supporter, he was wondering whether we would do them any favours like barca ended up doing Shakthar?
Match report from www.channel4.com
Champions' League Group F, Matchday 6 - 7/12/04
Celtic 0 - 0 Milan
Celtic Park
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Serginho rattled the crossbar and had a penalty shout rejected at Celtic Park, but Barca's defeat ensured Milan top Group F. The result - and Shakhtar Donetsk's shock win over the Spaniards - puts the Glasgow club out of Europe altogether.
Milan and Barcelona were already sure of their place in the next round going into this game, though leadership of Group F was still up for grabs. Celtic needed a better result than Shakhtar Donetsk to be certain of the UEFA Cup qualifying spot, but nonetheless the Rossoneri rested Hernan Crespo, Gennaro Gattuso, Marcos Cafu, Clarence Seedorf and Kaka.
As expected, the Scots had a strong start and 18-year-old Aidan McGeady fired just over the bar, but Magnus Hedman made the first save of the night after 11 minutes. Andriy Shevchenko sprinted down the left flank and Bobo Balde's interception nearly caught his goalkeeper by surprise for an own goal.
A splendid team move from Manuel Rui Costa found Serginho, but his low cross just missed the foot of Shevchenko from seven yards. Soon after Serginho again ran down the left and this time he went for goal himself, the rising drive rattling the underside of the crossbar.
Another fine passing move was cut down by Varga's key tackle on Shevchenko as Milan were now taking control of the game. Serginho fell under a challenge from Jackie McNamara, but the referee waved away penalty appeals. Replays show there was contact with the Brazilian's ankle, but the Greek official awarded a free kick for Celtic.
The Scots had their first shot on goal after 43 minutes and it took an incredible reaction save from Dida to keep the scorelines level. John Hartson's spectacular volley was palmed round the post at point-blank range.
Dida was again decisive a few moments later on a deflected effort from Chris Sutton, while Massimo Ambrosini charged down Varga's follow-up. The Brazilian fell heavily on to his hip during this move, but was able to carry on after treatment.
As the second half kicked off, Sutton's first touch let him down after a Paolo Maldini error. At the other end, Neil Lennon was lucky to avoid a second yellow card when he hacked down Shevchenko from behind.
Vikash Dhorasoo was perhaps Milan's best player on the night and his strong run set up Shevchenko only for Balde to steal away the ball at the last moment.
Dida comfortably smothered Sutton's shot, while Hernan Crespo allowed Shevchenko to rest for the final half-hour, while Celtic went for it with Henri Camara and Juninho.
Hedman had to be alert on teammate McNamara's wayward defensive header, then at the other end the defender's angled drive was fingertipped round the post by Dida.
Gennaro Gattuso warmed up, but the former Glasgow Rangers midfielder was not given the opportunity to face his former arch rivals, as Kaka was the final substitute five minutes from time.
Both sides had chances with Clarence Seedorf and Hartson, while Serginho's header looped inches over the bar from a corner kick.

Some post match comments on the tremendous atmosphere.Rossoneri respect Celtic Tuesday 7 December, 2004
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Carlo Ancelotti and Vice-President Adriano Galliani were full of praise for Celtic after dumping them out of Europe.
“Seeing so many thousands of fans holding up their scarves and cheering the team on even when they went out was moving,” said Galliani. “Celtic Park is what football should aspire to.”
The Rossoneri were already sure of their spot in the next round, but this result and Barcelona’s 2-0 defeat at Shakhtar Donetsk ensured leadership of Group F and put the Ukrainians into the UEFA Cup.
“These players had fresh legs and it was only right to give them this opportunity,” noted Ancelotti after resting many stars for this match. “They did well for most of the game, even if we were under a little bit of pressure towards the end.”
He also revealed the tactical key to closing down the Hoops’ powerful forwards on their home turf.
“It was clear Celtic were trying to punt the ball forward, so our midfielders did well to push them deep and stop these passes coming in. Dida was wonderful in the one real save he had to make. We passed this test and are top of the group, which was our objective.”
Ancelotti’s side managed to push Frank Rijkaard’s Barcelona into second place, but he is not taking anything for granted in the knockouts.
“It will be a very competitive Champions’ League and I don’t see any really weak teams left, so we’ll wait until the draw to comment on our next opponents.”
Galliani also described the approach the 2003 victors were taking to this competition after such a good start.
“Milan have been consistently good in Europe over the last three years and that is all we have ever asked of Ancelotti. Nobody can expect to win every season.”

Fair result. Main factor is we got top spot (although I wasn't too fussed if we didn't anyway).
Shame Celtic are out of Europe.
the reserves, especially Serginho and Dhorasoo deserve credit tonight for putting in good performances.
Lets wait to see the draw now and focus on hunting some zebras ;)

I just wanted to wish Milan good luck for the rest of the tournament and in Serie A. I thought that the Milan players who came into the team played well although it was a shame the Glasgow crowd didn't get a chance to see more than 5 mins of Kaka. A draw was probably a fair result last night with the play of young McGeady the brightest spot for Celtic last night, but small consolation for Barca forgetting to send a defence to Shaktar.
Despite going out so early, visiting the San Siro in September was a great experience and one I'll remember for a long, long time.
Forza Milan!
Celtic R Coming: Thank you for your kind words. :) I regret that Celtic exited the tournament so early. Good luck next year!

I thought Dhorasoo was Milan's best player last night, he looks quality - can we have him on loan?
McGeady was our standout.
Looking back on the game it perhaps looked finishing a 0-0 form the early minutes, not much chances.
And Milan brough a pretty large away support. Good luck for the rest of the tournament.
Celtic r coming and gabbarelli thanks for your kind comments, good luck next year and make sure ye beat rangers in the spl.
also McGeady look after him, he is a real star in the making

Just make sure O'Shea and Keane don't convince him to move whilst training for Ireland more importantly!
Good game last night, McGeady was excellent.
Dhorasoo ran the game much like he did V us last season with Lyon.
Hopefully Milan can go on and win the CL and Serie A again.:)

Huge respect to the Celtic fans.
Classy bunch, the Celtic fans. Best of luck to you! :)
I'm amazed that Martin O'Neill doesn't complain at all about Barca sending their B side out in Ukraine. I remember last season when Milan did the same thing against Celta Vigo a lot of people were whining about Milan's lack of fair play.
Anyway, I watched the full match last night and thought we were a bit too content with the draw. We could've attacked more than we did, no risks involved, but I guess it's "our" mentality.

I am extremely delighted to read your post Celtic_R_Coming! What a gentleman you are! Yourself and Gabbarelli are excellent examples of what a fan should be.
I can only wish Celtic all the best, even though I like Rangers. Your sincerity and conduct have gone a long way in making me into a fan of the hoops!

Well done Bhoys
thanks for your words,
i actually must say for once i hoped you passed yesterday, but Donetks is not an easy place to play in and Barca's interest was very little.
That's bad luck and maybe you can't complain not to have made it against us and Barca, maybe you should blame the team for the points dropped in other matches .
The stadium was awesome and i regret not to have had the chance to come over there once again but it wasn't possible, simple as that.
I saw a child face and i thought it was bad for you, but also that you've seen great teams at CP and that maybe with a better luck you would be in Uefa. The quality of our group was very high, maybe the toughest of all (which is an extra point for us..we've won it with points record).
Anyway i take the chance to say i think you can improve putting more quality upfront (McGeady excellent player..he reminds me of the young Donadoni ) dropping Hartson, who lacks any skill IMO except headers, and put a good first striker..in Italy there are loads of quality and low price strikers, even in Serie B , and they are quality! They would love to join such a club with tradition ..pick up Zampagna who scored the 1-2 against us in Milan v Messina..
I wish all the best to your team, and i'd like to know if there's the chance SPL teams will ever join the EPL.

Thanks Gio, I think most Celtic fans realise that we need more quality but it all comes back to money. Celtic played fantastically last season to knock Barca out of the UEFA cup. Since then they have taken our best player (Larsson) and spent a further 70million euros. Celtic by contrast have only bought Juninho and taken Camara on loan. Despite having more than 60,000 fans at every home game we will struggle to compete financially with the likes of Milan, Barca or Arsenal until we join a more lucrative league.
The EPL would bring in the revenue that Celtic would need to attract the top players that IMHO our fans deserve. However, that doesn't look like it will happen soon, so in the meantime we have to hope that Martin O'Neill can continue to push the team to perform beyond what they really should be capable of when you look at them as individuals. As for Hartson, he is very raw and his strengths and weaknesses are fairly obvious but he's in good company when you look at the only other player to score in the Nou Camp in the CL!
Most of ye wont know this but Roy Keane Irish midfielder and Man Utd Captain was at the match tuesday. Roy was there supporting Celtic but I am sure he was told to do a bit of scouting on milan aswell in case we draw each other. i am sure he was impressed that milan could perform to the standard they did with only 4 of the 1st 11 starting; dida, nesta, maldini & sheva.

I have actually gone to a game in which he was a supporter like me aswell. the Heinken Cup Semi Final (The Rubgy European Champions League) last April between Munster (who we were supporting) and London Wasps. It was on up in Dublin almost 50000. They had a video screen in the stadium and the camera zoomed in on him before the match started and he got a huge cheer

Roy Keane goes to a few Celtic matches.
He has been to games against Rangers, and was also in Seville when we played Porto in the UEFA Cup Final.....
I think he said a few years back that if he was ever to leave man utd he go play with celtic. in fact he might be playing against celtic next summer. here is a report from www.fai.ie
The Football Association of Ireland today announced that a game against Glasgow Celtic has been arranged as part of Ireland’s preparations for the World Cup Qualifiers in the summer of 2005.
A Brian Kerr Republic of Ireland XI will play the current Scottish Champions in Glasgow on Sunday 29th May 2005 as part of the Jackie McNamara Testimonial celebrations.
Ireland play Israel at Lansdowne Road on 4th June and the Faroe Islands in Torshavn five days later on 8th June and Manager, Brian Kerr, sees the Celtic game as an important part of the preparations for these two assignments.
Kerr said: “I am delighted to be involved in the Jackie’s Testimonial celebrations as he has been a great servant to the game in an era when loyalty to one club is unusual. As well as strengthening the good relationship with Celtic, the game itself will be very useful as it will keep our players in good match playing condition as the English season will have ended some three weeks earlier.”
I wonder whether Italy would ever play Milan in a friendly?
