Serie A Week 15 - 12/12/04 (15.00)
Milan 6 - 0 Fiorentina
Seedorf 16, 81 (M), Crespo 22, 60 (M), Shevchenko 51, 73 (M)
Stadio Giuseppe Meazza
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Milan couldn't ask for a better lead-in to the Scudetto showdown with Juventus as they literally tore Fiorentina apart with six goals.
Manuel Rui Costa has never been able to face his former club, as since his summer of 2001 move injuries and Fiorentina's relegation made it impossible. However, Carlo Ancelotti opted not to field the Portuguese international from the start, preferring Kaka and Andrea Pirlo in support of Hernan Crespo and Andriy Shevchenko.
The Rossoneri went close early on and Cristiano Lupatelli dived in to push a cross away from Shevchenko's head.
Milan were dominating the early stages and after 15 minutes Crespo was dragged back by Daniele Delli Carri for a penalty following some great build-up play from Kaka and Marcos Cafu. Andrea Pirlo stepped up and saw his spot-kick saved by Cristiano Lupatelli, but he could do nothing on Clarence Seedorf's follow-up header.
The home side doubled their lead soon after with a well-worked team move, even if the finish was curious. Crespo ran on to a Kaka through ball and lifted it over Lupatelli, but instead of a goalline clearance Giorgio Chiellini accidentally ensured it went into the net.
Fiorentina's first real chance saw Tomas Ujfalusi take advantage of a Kakha Kaladze error, but Christian Rigano' was put off by a desperate Dida rush off his line.
Kaka's solo slalom past defenders was not matched by an accurate finish, chaotic defending cleared the danger from Shevchenko and Crespo while Rigano's looping header shaved the far post.
Shevchenko wasted a good chance and Kaka's vicious piledriver was just about parried by Lupatelli.
There was bad news for the Viola, as Lupatelli suffered an injury and did not come back out for the second half, so former Dundee goalkeeper Roccati was guarding the posts.
Shevchenko is set to receive the Balon d'Or on Monday and he marked it with a brilliant goal. The Ukrainian exchanged several passes with Kaka as they tore the Fiorentina defence apart and he finished off the move with style.
Even Gennaro Gattuso was caught up in the atmosphere and flicked the ball over a defender to set up Shevchenko's well-saved volley.
The fourth goal came on the hour mark when Pirlo set Crespo running on the counter-attack and his angled drive left Roccati with no chance.
Crespo's hat-trick was disallowed for Kaka's push on goalkeeper Roccati, but despite the scoreline the Fiorentina fans continued to cheer on their team.
Roccati pushed away Shevchenko's tap-in at the near post, but the European Player of the Year sprung the offside trap on Crespo's pass and delicately placed the ball into the far corner for his 102nd Serie A career goal.
Fiorentina had fallen apart long before this stage, but Milan kept going and Massimo Ambrosini rolled across for Seedorf to tap in his second of the game - the team's sixth.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Milan: Dida; Cafu, Nesta, Maldini, Kaladze; Gattuso, Pirlo (Ambrosini 68), Seedorf; Kakà (Rui Costa 66); Crespo, Shevchenko
Fiorentina: Lupatelli (Roccato 46); Delli Carri, Viali, Dainelli; Ujfalusi (Fantini 60), Maresca, Piangerelli, Obodo, Chiellini; Miccoli, Riganò (Nakata 68)
Ref: Rodomonti
Missed pen: Pirlo 16 (M)
It's the result of set only 3 main defenders against Milan:p017:
Great to see we have exellent condition before against Juve!:firedev::firedev::firedev:

Hahahahaha That Was Some Match!!!
Fantastic win! :)
Fiorentina were truely pathetic to watch, but it was good to see that our team didn't stop playing after 2-0. It was also great to see the good team spirit and unselfishness (particularely Ambro's pass to Seedorfs 6-0 goal).

a fantanstic match from milan! the whole team playeb suberb! i'm very happy with this perfomances! let's focus now on the juve match!! and hope that bologna will beat team this evenning!! FORZA MILA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
gr8 result, i hope the same for next week!
Nice Result!
This was simply wonderful and beautiful and fantastic. The first half alone was great and then we had the second half. Crespos 4-0 goal killed the game in the 60 minute and after that it was cruise mode for both teams. It was still really nice to watch until Crespo was off which meant our offensive options subsided. The thing was that our goals was simply beautiful and we had several plays that really deserved goals. It could have been a rout... uh wait it was a rout. :D
Dida 6. They had two chances, both missing the goal.
Cafu 7. Played good and was a threat early one, dissapeared in the game, but was solid in defense in the second half.
Nesta 6.5. Played pretty good, had some problems with Rigano at times.
Maldini 7. He blocked all their shots, Played very secure except one instance where he lost the ball that ended up with Cafus yellow card.
Kaladze 7. His best game since his injury problems. He was helping in offense and was great in defense, he even looked quite pacy!
Gattuso 7. The old Gattuso. Won a lot of balls and even got some unfair freekicks against him, protected the ball well when he had it and played it on.
Pirlo 7.5. That's my Pirlo :diablo: he played up great pass after great pass, especially early on. Fiorentinas mistake was to give him free reign, they concentrated to much on Kaka and Pirlo could dictate.
Seedorf 8. A typical performance from in form Seedorf, worldclass. He had some awesome pleasing passes, scored two from midfield and could easily walk around with a smile.
Kaka 7.5. Kaka is back! ;) He did really well, played simple and made a fool out of Piangerelli that was supposed to take him out. 3rd goal was a masterpiece together with Shevchenko. Where he passed Sheva who passed it back in his stride only for Kaka to pass Sheva again for an pretty easy finish.
Crespo 7. We seen Crespo score already, but I have not seen him play this good (did not watch the Shaktar game). He was very much involved in the play, more or less scored two and assisted one.
Sheva 8. Golden ball.

LOL i wanna tell this story:
today i couldn't go san siro so i went to my fav bar, where there are two rooms: the Milan one (the barman is a milan fan) and the other one, sometimes they show juve matches and sometimes inter's ones.
Well, we were already partying in front of Merde's fans, but the boast when Siena scored has been an absolute laugh BWUWUHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Anyway i'm gonna gamble on the next Inter draw, but luckily they are so probable they pay very few moneys in case of right bet :D

Kris imo Crespo played even better than Sheva: he was inside every goal chance!!
Kakà 7.5
Sheva 7.5
Crespo 8
Absolutely fabulous( that reminds me of the British programme,...`just do your best darling` :D ),however, great performance by us,i can`t add much to what most of you have already said, but i have to express my thrill.....FORZAAAAAAAAAAA MILAAAAAAAAAAAAN!!!! :rone:
P.S.
i was yelling so much after every goal was scored that i think i`m losing my voice now :googly:......even if so, milan is so worth it:proud:
Looking forward to (probably) spectacular match with juve :devs:
ancelotti I salute you.
what an under-rated manager he is, exellent tactician but it's his abiltity to get players playing well that's really astonishing. no one stays out of form long here.
that donkey crespo looks a bit tastey now dosn't he :D
Here are my comments on the individual performances of each player (no scores, I leave that to the papers ;))
Dida - Not much to do, but on the few occations he was troubled he looked solid
Maldini & Nesta - For the most part of the game you could have landed B-52's on Milans half of the pitch as Fiorentina clearly had decided to defend with 10 men around the edge of the box  I have never seen a game were our CB's had less to do
Cafu - Early in the 2nd half I noticed Cafu talking to Maldini. I suspect he said "Paolo, I'm gonna spend the rest of the game in the attacking 1/3 of the pitch, so see you in the locker room after the game". And that is what he did. And well too :)
Kaladze - Was IMO the player that impressed the least today. You can't blame his defending, because there was no defending to do. But he could have done more in the attack. I saw very few successfull passes into the box from him (allthough he did a nice tunnel on a Viola player)
Pirlo - Missed a penelty but had otherwise a great game until he was substituted. Precise passes and inventive playing throughout
Gattuso - Played a Gattuso game, kicking at anything that moved. First I thought that he wasn't very impressive, but if it is his job to intimidate opponents to avoid the midfield alltogehter, he deserves 10 out of 10. Fiorentina had 5 midfielders on the pitch and none of them dared to be in the midfield.
Seedorf - Fantastic game from Clyde! When he is in the mood there is simply noone better. He scored twice (first header was a beauty! :)), assisted brilliantly (a few nice back-heals) and broke up any attempts by Fiorentina to try not to be a door mat.
Kaka - The assist to Sheva's goal was class. Clearly intimidated Viola defenders to the point of rigor mortis. He had a few attempt with long range shots that failed.
Crespo - First goal was his, second goal was his and then he got to score himself. Crespo has found his place in the team and the right pace. If he continues like this he will stay next year at the expense of JDT.
Sheva - Scored twice and worked generally very hard from a deeper position than I would have wanted. But hey, he scored twice :)
Rui Costa - came on for a while but didn't find his position and frankly didn't look enthused about playing Viola. I forgive him ;)
Ambrosini - Missed a great scoring opp with his head (just like the one he scored against Lazio with). Wonderful unselfish pass to Clyde for the 6-0 goal.
D'horasoo - His pass that set up the last goal was class. Pirlo quality

Extracts from a pre-game interview with Viola coach Buso: (My comments in "( )")
“We respect the Rossoneri as they are a world class club,” said Coach Sergio Buso, “but we won’t go in there looking for the draw (wish granted :grinser: ). We have to play in a manner that will leave us open (they did indeed leave themselves open;)) to getting all three points.”
“We cannot rely on man-marking Milan’s stars (too bad putting 10 men behind the ball didn't work either ) as there are far too many of them to control that way (you got that right :pp20: ).

This was a great display from Milan although I also believe that Fiorentina did us a great favor by counting the game over from the start of the second half. They did try defending in numbers but Milan were just too quick and adventurous upfront. Too bad Buso didn't play Uijfalusi in CB for then he would have finally seen how he compares to Nesta.
Crespo IMO was at least equal to Sheva in his contribution to this great display. They played very very well and had to offer some very nice moves to La Viola. Crespo got the penalty and pretty much scored the second goal with which the game was practically over. Even without adding the 4th(?) he scored, I believe he was our decisive force in attack today, of course I am not trying to play down the contribution of Sheva, Kaka, Seedorf, Pirlo, Cafu and the rest.
This is pretty much it - an easy but fully deserved victory for Milan who proved to be just too much of a team for Fiorentina to handle. The perfect preparation in view of next week's encounter at the Delle Alpi, may be full for the first time this season thanks to Milan.
Speaking of being hypocritical, I can only imagine how reduculous and stupid feel those who not so long ago booed him and now they are full of praise of him.
Also I think Pirlo MUST betaken out of this squad. Today he got one pass wrong and I believe this is more than enough for Milan to get rid of him right away and bring in some fresh blood. Who? Well, ask Bayman - he has made up a whole list of possible recruits.
The only 'bad ' thing in this game is that the second goal was not given to Crespo. For the rest, all of the players where wonderful. Now let's kick the juventus s' ass!!!!!!!!!!

This was a great display from Milan although I also believe that Fiorentina did us a great favor by counting the game over from the start of the second half.
I don't agree, they played up until Crespos 4-0 goal which was in the 60 minute, after that they lost their will to play.
The team was nearly perfect today, and showed its true colors. We won big, we won with class and attacking football, and could score 3 or 4 more easily. An excellent "tune-up" before nweek's big battle against Juventus.
The flow of play - waves of attack after attack- plus the early goals made Fiorentina look like children on the field. Congratulations to all.
What we saw today in the attack is Pirlo, Seedorf and Kaka, in their different styles, push in constantly, with Cafu running from the right, and Crespo and Sheva popping up when needed and destroying the defense. I suppose they silenced the sceptics and seem to have found their form after a shaky start of season.
In addition, friends: RAI had today the beautiful blond lady "hosting" the show in the studio, and she was absolutely stunning - standing there and making her comments to all of us football fans. Our small group of Milan fans in Port Townsend wants to marry her (jointly) even if it is illegal and she inspires thoughts unfit for a Sunday morning. I am a sinner....

JUVE IS LEADING 1-0 WITH A DOUBTFUL FREE KICK
These are f*ckers
I love how pundits think the key to shutting us down is easy: take Kaka and Pirlo out the game, always watch Shevchenko and oh yeah Crespo and hope Seedorf dosn't play well. and Cafu. oh and hope the defense has a rare off day. oh yeah and Dida.

Martin, I think you are overreacting a bit - it has been that way for decades now and people in Italy seem to have gotten used to it for they don't seem to do anything to change it. Juve fixing games and winning titles with DUBIOUS ref decisions defended by statements such as "refs are also human and can make a mistake too" has been daily life in Italian soccer for years and decades.
And should FIFA allow refs to consult with a camara recording in a dificult situations, Serie A would be the last one to utilize it for the refs will have a hell of a time trying to explain why they made a mistake in Juve's favour yet again.
And when I think of how people wonder how come Juve is the most successful team in Italy as far as Serie A goes while their European record is crapp, I just can't stop laughing.

Crespo's supreme techniques more than make up for his lack of fitness in recent wks...his backheels, bicycle attempts...beautiful set-up and unselfish plays..added to the spectecular display by milan in the recent run...yesterday's match against fiorentina was another fine display by the Argentine...his tight angle drive to the far post is the best among the 6-goal routing of Viola, im glad we stayed our faith in him...
Forza Crespo!~~

The good and the not so good in Milan's humiliation of Fiorentina.
Good
1. Milan dominated the game with great passes. I've always enjoyed watching the game with balls being distributed all over the place while the opponents chase after it.
2. At least four of Pirlo's razor-sharp passes that shredded through Fiorentina's defence.
3. Gattuso's typical 'snapping' in the center of the pitch.
4. Seerdof's ball-distribution to the center-forwards, the flanks and everywhere else, including that cheeky backheel to Shevchenko.
5. Crespo's increasing alertness and improvement in reading the game well.
6. ..and of course, 6-0 and Milan did not seem to stop being hungry for more. There have been times where they were leading and sit back absorbing the attack. They showed their superiority this time.
Not So Good
1. Fiorentina did not seem want to play anymore after the third goal. Crespo's fourth was to shutdown Fiorentina's operation system.
2. Kaladze: I won't criticize him but when ten players are playing well, it looks obvious that one isn't.
3. When it's 6-0, it's easy to forget about the missed chances. But Shevchenko could have converted at least the other 3 out of 5 chances he had.
3. When it's 6-0, it's easy to forget about the missed chances. But Shevchenko could have converted at least the other 3 out of 5 chances he had.
Unforuntately i won't agree iwht you here.
IF strikers keep on converting chances, then perhaps the scoreline could be 10-2 or 6-2 or something. .Fiorentina has their chances too.
And look at Arsenal, they have 2 chances and converted both by Henry
It's just unrealistic for a striker to convert every single chance. In that case, really, Shev has 200+ goals already.

WHAT A RESULT!!!
I know its late, but I only just got to see it
This performance showed what Milan is capable of.
Pirlo played excellent as well, with almost all attacking moves building from him, he showed how he controls play so beautifully. The missed penalty was a shame, but he set Crespo up very nicely.
Kaka was also awsome with many great play.
Seedorf, Sheva and Crespo were all brilliant. Seedorf added a spectacular element to the side, Crespo was a constant thorn in Fiorentina's side and is clearly back to his best and Sheva showed great class and his goals showed amazing pace, power and technical ability (as well as a number of other abilties).
What can I say, it is our best performance this year and I'm especially happy about Pirlo's game tbh. Its time people remembered how good he is and the side showed how good it is when he's on form (this isn't to say he was our best player, but hopefully my comment about the him being a conductor in one of the other threads makes more sense now).
Bring on Juve and their refs! ;)
FORZA CRESPO!

I apologise for my late post, but I am in chilly Costa Rica for work, having left Jamaica right after the Milan vs Viola game.
An excellent performance by the defending champions, and one which will inspire us to another great performance in Turin.
Every single player on the pitch played well, from Dida right up to the forward line, whose goal tally says it all..my only concern was the amount of times Cafu was caught upfield, but the Viola attack didnt have the spark they needed to take advantage of the counters and superior numbers that they had.
Against Juve and Zlatan, I hope he is not so adventurous, unless we are 6-0 up at half time!
This is the Milan that I love to see, and this is the Milan that can win everything this season.
FORZA MILAN!!!!!!!
