Milan 5 - 2 Lecce

Stadio Giuseppe Meazza

A five-star Milan performance put paid to Lecce's hopes of causing an upset, as Hernan Crespo bags a hat-trick.
Milan ended 2004 on a high with a 6-0 drubbing of Fiorentina and fine performance against leaders Juventus, though they remained four points adrift of the top spot. Their clash with Lecce, perhaps the most entertaining side in Serie A this season and playing without suspended defender Suleymane Diamoutene, was sure to be an action-packed encounter. Zdenek Zeman, who has never won in this stadium, surprisingly opted to leave Valeri Bojinov on the bench.
There was a special occasion for the San Siro supporters before kick-off, as Andriy Shevchenko was presented with the European Player of the Year award and did a lap of honour with the Ballon d'Or held aloft.
Hernan Crespo just failed to get on the end of Shevchenko's low cross after five minutes, but Vincenzo Sicignano was called into a great save on Kaka's strike from the edge of the box following more impressive build-up from the Ukrainian.
The Lecce goalkeeper was at full stretch to block Crespo at the end of a good team move. The Rossoneri were piling on the pressure and took the lead after 23 minutes. Rullo's error allowed Kaka to run free, rolling a perfect cross for Crespo to tap in at the back post.
Kaka was again the provider soon after, but this time Shevchenko's rapid turn and volley was inches wide, then the former Dynamo Kiev star forced Sicignano to bravely rush off his line.
Kaka was inspired this afternoon and set up Crespo for his second of the game. This time the Brazilian marauded down the left and rolled across for Crespo, who dribbled round the 'keeper and deposited the ball into an empty net.
It was nothing short of a siege on Sicignano with shots raining in from Andrea Pirlo, Shevchenko, Kaka and Marcos Cafu.
Pirlo was set to make it 3-0 in the final minute of the first half, but the woodwork kept out his curling free kick from the edge of the box.
Shevchenko grabbed the third of the day, a fine way to celebrate the Ballon d'Or. A long Pirlo free kick found Sheva's header at the back post, though once again Lecce's defending was disappointing.
Shevchenko also showed his generosity on the hour mark, springing the Lecce offside trap and choosing to roll across for Crespo to complete his hat-trick rather than going for glory himself.
Alessandro Nesta saw red for a last man foul on substitute Bojinov, even though Paolo Maldini was very close by. It proved an important moment, as Bojinov fired in from that free kick on the edge of the box.
Lecce staged an unlikely comeback in the closing minutes, as Marco Cassetti's angled drive from a Bojinov assist was the second goal they put past Dida.
However, Shevchenko made sure the result was safe by springing the offside trap and rolling across for the umarked Jon Dahl Tomasson to tap in Milan's fifth. The Rossoneri have now scored 11 goals in their last two home games.

Great win coupled with the other result ;) sometimes they make it look so easy, amazing performance
Something you see only in serie A, the ref arguing with Nesta in the meanwhile the ref notices Lecce have taken their corner and has to get out of the way :grinser:

I saw the whole match and Milan played great for 60 minutes. After in 3 subs few minutes Milan stopped to play easy and wanted everything to be so fine. Expecially Rui Costa - his always makes the same moves and I think he has to try something new as he lost the ball everytime.
Dhorasoo simply great .. but also Kaka and Shevchenko. I think Sheva will get nearly get a 9.0 in Gazzetta Tomorrow

Saw the old lady draw in the Tardini, and caught some of the goal action from the Milan match, all the first half goals actually.
A good result for Milan, however Nesta“s ban will surely hurt us, as I doubt Stam will be back in time to replace him when the resulting suspension hits.
We were a little complacent in letting in 2 goals, but they proved to be pointless anyway...
FORZA MILAN!!!

Just happy to know we won. (I don't get coverage of Seria A, you see)
But Crespo, hmm......... was his performance good enough to convince? (to make a permanent move for him)

Crespo:devil: boy do I feel stupid I wasn't patient with this guy.

I doubt if it is complacency or the fact that Nesta is sent off that we conceded 2 goals.
Now Billy is warming up for the next game I guess
An excellent match from us and a beautiful display combined with the good news coming from the other match means that we are just two points behind Juve . It seems we made full use of the league stop because all of our players came from the rest in an excellent shape with Crespo scoring a hat-trick and Sheva and Thomasson completing the demolition . I believe Dhorasso who replaced Seedorf played a good match on the left of our midfield . Well done and looking forward to another victory on Sunday .

A fantastic game! You guys saw Sheva with the Golden Ball ? The tv flash that image again after he scored the goal :proud: Vikash was great!I love this attacking Milan! The only set back is Sandro's red card!! From Sandro's reaction I can see he mummurs something like "vaffanc***" when leaving the field...he must be terribly pissed! Was jumping in joy when I knew Parma equalised!:tong:Burn in hell Juvemerda!!! :devf:
So Billy will play in the next game? He won't disappoint us...FORZA MILAN!!
GREAT GAME. Excellent performance by all team, especially Dhorasso (I think he was the man of the match). The most think that impressed me is that :pr115: Shevchenko :pr115: :pr115: gave to assists when he had the chance to score to Crespo and Tomasson.
The only bad think, the red card to Nesta, he could have left Bojinov run away, we where 4-0 that time.
Great game! Credit to Sheva for giving Crespo the 4 goal when he could have scored himself. I guess he wants him to stay :)

I want him to stay, too! :smileani:
Sheva, Crespo, Pippo, JDT, Gilardino....Pick four, dump one :w155: Not all that easy.

Quite so, quite so.....I stand corrected. We did concede while down to 10 men, and did manage to score a goal despite our reduced team.
Kudos to our players then, and I totally retract my comment as per their complacency...
I am so happy that we have closed the gap, that I may have been somewhat giddy when writing that post! :delol:

In Curva Sud people was crazy today, cause we watched a great Milan
Vikash simply amazing , he seems a little Elf going through other players' legs, Hernan is about to come to his old days in parma and Lazio, Kaką great assists as well as Sheva...Great Milna today, regardless of the players who actually play.. :proud:

Galliani always has this policy of whoever doesn't want to leave will not leave. We just won't buy!

Dhorasoo was magnificient...there is going to be a struggle for the left flank now...so i presume we wudnt be bringing in Jankulovski :D ? Because Pancaro seems to be doing perfectly fine and when Kala comes back, this milan team will be the best in recent years.
I cannot stress this point again but i just couldnt help myself, the milan scouts r MAGNIFICIENT!!! look @ who they have brought in in recent years n look @ the price !!
UNBELIEVABLE :dazed: ...a player of cafu n Dhorasoo's quality comes free? too good to be true but the milan scouts made it possible. They really made a difference to Milan.
Forza Milan Scouts!!!

the thing is pancaro is on loan to us only right?
cafu and dhorasoo are great but their previous clubs look down on them because of their age but here at milan we don't and that's what make us successful.
wow we won 5-2 what can I say I'm so happy and I'm spechless
glad juve draw to prama so now we only 1 point behind juve

Dhorasoo is on-form, his move was awesome,
i think seedorf have to settle for the bench for some times.
Nesta red card, i think Stam will be making his come-back for the match against palermo.
Stam and Maldini, ermm interesting back-line.

when we play like that everyone looks mediocre, actualy even juve looked mediocre
when we play like that everyone looks mediocre, actualy even juve looked mediocre
That's a fact :dcool: Playing well is not only about scoring, but disrupting your opponants game. D'horasso and Kaka totally outsmarted the Lecce midfield and Lecce never (until Nesta was dismissed) had a chance to play their game.
I remembered that someone asked me abut the the stat for Pirlo interms of tacklling: Here it is:
996minutes
54 tackling
27 tackling successful
165 times clear the ball
4 assists so far in the team, just after kaka`!

Some interesting stats there jeff, especially considering these stats are showing Pirlo when no where near his best ;)
Anyway, simply a brilliant performance yesterday and we did very little wrong. What can I say, were on great form and I'm guessing we should be able to keep it up till the end of the season (don't forget, the side didn't exert as much energy as other teams in the first half of the season).
Dida had very little to do until after Nesta got sent off, but he can't really be blamed for the goals let past.
Cafu was good and quite solid defensively. Had some good charges down the right and even the odd shot.
Nesta was himself till he got sent off. It wasn't a red card anyway you look at it, as Maldini was clearly there backing him up.
Maldini was extremely solid until Nesta was off. This is hardly a surprise as the make shift defence was from solid and he had a hard time organising it. However, his performance was excellent overall.
Pancaro was quieter than Cafu, but had a solid game overall. He like the others struggled at the end due to Sandro's red card.
Pirlo was himself. His set pieces were dangerous and his overall play was excellent, where he controlled the flow of the side and distributed the ball superbly.
Dhorasoo didn't get many mentions when I followed the match online, but on seeing delayed highlights I see how great he was. His ball control and distribution were excellent and he added bite to the side. Great performance.
Gattuso was quieter than normal, but was very much himself.
Kaka was excellent. He's clearly worked on his shooting lately and his passing is improving all the time (his pass and vision for Crespo's first goal was incredible). He was an integral element to the attack.
Crespo is back. got 3 goals and a good performance to boot. His predatory skills were superb and really there isn't much more to ask of him.
Sheva was incredible. Scored a goal and was very, VERY unlucky not to get more (the keeper deserves some credit for this). His contribution to the attacking build up play was superb and he showed his worth as not only did he score, he turned provider on more than one occasion!
I won't rate the subs, but JDT deserves credit for sealing the win and finally getting a goal.
Personally, I felt extremely confident following this match and really we controlled Lecce superbly. The defence lost a lot of organisation when Nesta got sent off, but really the side hung in well with Tomasson getting the killer blow (although I did get a little apprehensive when the second goal went in).
When seeing extended highlights, it was clear to see that my judgement during the match wasn't wrong and this clearly shows the strength the Milan side has.
Also great to see Zebra's get disappointed ;)
Lets continue on Sunday against Palermo!!!!!!
FORZA CRESPO!!!
FORZA SHEVA!
FORZA JDT!
FORZA MILAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
im so happy crespo scored those golsss, if he continue like this then we mite not need gilardino. its good that dhorasso is playin good because now he can rival seedrof for 1 team spot

anyone with newspapers' ratings?
for newspaper ratings, go to acmilan.com on breaking news section.
this milan side surprised me in terms of the amount of goals that they scored.i am so happy for crespo, he used to be milan opponents for about 10 years and suddenly he plays for us and he does well! since dhorasoo plays so well, just imagine if seedorf replaces gattuso and we will have all attacking midfielders! pirlo-seedorf-dhorasoo-kaka!
i dont know whether we need to buy players in january transfer window. we got all areas covered. probably we need one attacking right back, but we have to sell one of our defenders. oh wait... maybe brocchi can play as right back! i am sure he will do it well!
we dont need strikers now since crespo is back! i really like bojinov, but he can only come if inzaghi or tomasson leaves.
FORZA MILAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dhorasso is not just an attacking mid, he's a all rounded player. I mean, he's rather tough despite his height, because he's very quick in stealing the balls and amazingly quick to go forward and pass the ball to counterattackers such as Kaką and Sheva or Cafu
