View Full Version : What Transfers do Milan NEED to make???

Guys,

What transfers do you think need to be made by Milan?

I think we need a RB that will be happy to rotate with Cafu, an LB that will start and fits the tactics of our team. With Gilardino coming the forward line is fine. I would like Tomasson and Rui Costa to leave so maybe we would also need to sign a player as back-up to Kaka'

Here are mine:
RB: Oddo (and Mesto)
LB: Jankulovski (He can also be pushed forward if needs be)
AM back-up: Montolivo

I wish we could get Bonera too but how would we make space for him in the team. Ancelotti cannot drop Nesta, Stam, Maldini too much. Bonera would be great though if we got him we would have to let Coloccini go.

Giovanni

Bonera will go to Juve. We share the market, so one for us and one for them. They dropped their interests in Gila and Jankulovski, we will drop our for Bonera.

RB--> Mesto/Cassetti
LB---> Jankulovski
FWD---> Gilardino

For the playmaker spot Rui won't leave, but if he has to, i would go with Aliaksandr Hleb of Stuttgart. Fantastic player.

Tomasson is likely to leave. Crespo to be confirmed.

Totti can go everywhere but plz NOT to Milan.
We should continue to only buy players for departing ones:
Pancaro - Jankulovski
Tomasson(?) - Gilardino
are more or less a given.

I can also see Serginho, Rui Costa, or Ambrosini leaving.
At least one further player will arrive, preferrably a central mid.

I agree with Bayman, Milan will and should only get new players for departing ones.

In the attack: I believe Crespo will be confirmed and that Gilardino will join from Parma. This leaves one of two options for Tomasson 1) he will be sold 2) Rui Costa will leave and Tomasson will act as back-up playmaker (he has plenty experience in this position and is good at it)

In the midfield: If Serginho leaves and Ambrosini stays, I see one more midfielder joining. I think Jankulowski will be used more as a starting LB than a back-up to Seedorf in the midfield. Sneider anyone?

In the defense: Jankulowski, Maldini, Nesta, Cafu will likely be the "starting four" next season, with Kaladze, Coloccini, Stam as back-ups. Billy will likely retire, which leaves one position open for either Pancaro OR Simic. I doubt that Milan will by another CB or RB.

If Milan needs a defender for sure this in Mirel Radoi from Steaua Bucharest! Is one of the best in the world, is not expensive. I can tell for sure that is better than Chivu, another romanian defender from Roma!
Inter is in pole position of purchasing this player because Steaua's manager, Walter Zenga recomands him to Inter!
If Milan wants To make a good deal this is the solution! MIREL RADOI!!! Galliani buy him!!!

haha, Bayman, I was so sure you'd say "we need a new Midfield" :D

Gio is right, Billy will stay one last year for his son (something about taking him onto the San Siro pitch)

As for transfers we need...not many at this point. Lets look at the side firstly.

Dida: has a few years ahead of him and is unlikely to have a major drop in form during that period.
Nesta: He has at least 5 years ahead of him
Maldini: I think he'll stay next year at least
Cafu: I think he has another year in him, but even then, it looks like Colo or someone will be brought in to replace him
Kaladze: Has a number of years left if he can recover from injuries. Also, it looks like Jankulovski will be brought in (again, has many years left) who can play the role superbly
Pirlo: still young
Rino: barely older the Andrea
Seedorf/Dhorasoo: Dhorasoo will probably still be here next year and Seedorf has many years left (and we may get Jankulovski, who can perform this role or LB)
Kaka: VERY young
Sheva: A number of years left
Crespo/Pippo/JDT: Pippo is getting on these days and JDT may move. However, its looking more and more likely Crespo will join permanantly and Gilardinho is becoming a VERY realistic prospect

Looking through that list, its unlikely we'll need much and where we might need a big signing, were already linked heavily to some stars (most notably the forwards). Therefore, other than maybe a forward or two and maybe Jankulovski, don't expect big signings.

However, the squad may be reshuffled a bit as some squad players may be leaving (Serginho and Brocchi seem likely) and so a few squad signings (Solari maybe?) are quite understandable.

Also note, throughout this season people argue our defence is old. However, Cafu and Maldini are some of our fittest players and Nesta and Kaladze are still quite young. Also, if for some reason we need to replace Cafu or Maldini, we have Stam and Colo (Colo is young, Stam is at a fair age for a defender).

The point is, don't expect 5 or 6 big signings, but rather maybe 2 or 3 and some squad signings. One thing I'm sure of, the spine of this Milan won't change and Ancelotti's generation will continue for at least one more season

Well said! :) Jankulowski, Gilardino and maybe a squad midfielder (unless you count Crespo as well). That will likely be it, which is more than fine by me.

some youth in defence so maybe Bonera or Chivu.

Up front as well so Gilardino or Cassano either would fit in nicely -- Gilardino more so.

I know him too well, from the time he played in Romania. Now, you've come to know him since (NOT) playing in Italy. Buying him either as a defender or a defensive midfielder would be a disaster for Milan. Chivu's profile makes him misfit for any of the defensive posts. He's too weak for taugh one to one duels, he scarcely and poorly uses his right foot and he uses his head ridiculously. Indeed, his long pass is acceptable, as well as his free-kicking, but those are far from enough. His speed is far slower than old Costacurta's; as for playing instead of Gattuso- don't make me laugh!!!- he would break to pieces even before his opponent is near. Remember how he debuted with Rome: he fell on his a*s, and came the goal.
Besides, he is psychologically vulnerable: when his ex-girl friend cheated on him, he showed broken and was incapable to play or even come out in the open for weeks. Right now, his fiancee is said to be... part-time. Again he will suffer and... not play. His natural state is to be injured, physically, psychically or both.
Notice that Roma has been paying him lots and now they don't know how to get rid of him and save the money that can still be saved.

Is Milan the team to buy what middle class teams throw away?!?

we picked up Cafu from Roma, Dhorasoo from Lyon, Pirlo n Seedorf from Inter  and see how we r doing..

sergiu
20-01-2005, 03:05
Cafu, Dhorasso, Pirlo, Seedorf were among the best players of their teams when we took them. They were playing much, playing well, and they were remarked. Their teams sold them to us because they needed to sell them, not because they wanted to get rid of them. It would not be Chivu's case!
As for middle class- I maintain: yes, MIDDLE CLASS! Are Roma, Inter or Lyon high class and I/we ignore it?!!

Henrik
20-01-2005, 06:35
Pirlo and Seedorf were not among Inter's best when we bought them. Pirlo in particular was not being used much at all. Milan should continue to buy quality players give them the right environment to flaunt their genius abilities.

I agree that Chivu may not be the optimal solution, but he certainly has potential.

PirloDaBest
20-01-2005, 06:45
Inter merda didnt use Pirlo at all!!! They gave him a little run out now and then. Plus he was a trequartista (like Kaka) back then and a very good one at that but Inter didnt want to give him a chance (he was young then).

Milan have signed many players for FREE or low fees that have turned out to be pure class. But this is because we have a good system when it comes to recruiting players and our scouts are great! Not all coaches see the qualities that others do.

Pirlo is one of the best players in the world!!! And so unique too!

For those of you that speak/understand Italian go to www.sports.it

This is a website that has calciomercato section. Most of it is speculation but it is good to read at times. Today there is an article linking Coloccini to Deportivo and another linking the Greek RB of Porto (Seitarides) to Milan. I would prefere Cassetti/Mesto. I like players that are used to Serie A already. Not everyone is Kaka, right?

Milan should look to replace Gattuso, and those that look destined to leave in the summer, like Ambro(?), JDT (Gilardino) Rui (Ronaldhino) and Serghino (Jankulovski)...

Of course the Rui replacement is more dream than possibility, but who knows the mind of Berlu and Uncle Fester aka Galliani?

Sneider seems a good target, but I dont hear any rumors really, except for one that I would rather not take place, which is the one that says Henry is being targeted to join over the summer....now I really dont see him in our lineup...

Henrik
08-02-2005, 13:10
Why replace Gattuso our future captain Warro?

Serginho has just signed an contract extension, so he may not leave.

I agree that Sneijder would be a nice target, but only if Serginho leaves.

For a simple reason Henrik, he cannot make an offensive contribution to save his life...ok I exaggerate, (as his cross for Kaka's goal vs Inter still sticks in my mind) but this is so often the exception...

While I admire his work ethic, he all too often nullifies our attacking moves because of his poor passing...and if he were to be made captain...whoaaaa now...thats a leap, even though he works hard, we need more of a "Makalele" type player to play in his stead, one who can tackle, and pass, and beat an opponent, without the entire stadium (and the millions of fans watching worldwide) holding their collective breaths...wondering when he will lose posession.

I admit that his role is an important one, but IMO, he should come off the bench to seal off games, not when we are trying to take the lead.

Henrik
08-02-2005, 13:34
Allthough I agree that Gattuso has some limitations, given that the rest of the midfield normally consists of Pirlo, Seedorf and Kaka, I don't think we should look to Gattuso to making an "offensive contribution".

For many years Milan used to play with 1 offensive midfielder, now we play with 3. Gattuso is vital both for the other midfielders ability to focus on going forward and moving the ball forward, but also to allow Cafu to make his vital runs down the right.

I a straight 442, it could be argued that Gattuso's usefullness would be limited, but that is simply not the way we play. :)

Every team needs a water carrier and ours is Gatusso. We could go and sign Viera tomorrow but he wouldnt cover half the ground Gatusso covers. I agreed he was awful with the ball againt Lazio, but hes not in the team for that.

Personally, I would like to see Mancini and Chivu arrive from Roma. Mancini successfully replaced Cafu at Roma and Im not sure I agree with Sergiu, Chivu is one of the best left backs (if we play him there) in the world when you consider how many great left backs there really are. I mean Ashley Cole is probably one of them  Evra would also be a great option, but I have a feeling he will end up at Chelsea as Milan dont buy young players unless they are Brazilian.

Why not aim big and try and lure Adriano to Milan, after all we are milan and we havent made a really big money signing for some time. Inter wouldnt sell, but these days players have increased power :horny:

There is nothing wrong with focussing on young Brazlians instead of Chelsea's multinational approach.

We need a wing-player. In games against smaller teams, Milan has it difficult sometimes to break the opponent's defense. And that's because we don't have real offensive wing midfielders, like we had Donadoni. Ok, we have Serginho, but he rarely plays. Cafu is an offensive player but he must come from his own half, so that's not always easy. Seedorf plays a lot at the right side, but is actually a central player. I think Donadoni was never replaced in Milan. These days, Chelsea have the best wing players with Duff and Robben. It's a type of player like this we need. Swedish player Wilhelmsson of Anderlecht is a old-style right wing, and he did hurt Inter a few times real bad in the CL.

I thought Seedorf played on the left side of our midfield ? But in any case with the midfield formation we play, an out and out winger isn't the right choice. If you took out Seedorf and put in a winger, the balance wouldn't be right, our midfield would be too weak and easier to break down ... lets face it wide players aren't known for their tackling skills ... although it does happen now and again.

If we were to have a winger, they would play in either Kaka/Rui's position behind the forwards or as another forward. We would never start with a winger in a Seedorf/Gattuso type midfield position.

Because we only really have Serginho, our full backs are the most important position in our team in my opinion, they provide the width that our midfield usually lacks. This is why the likes of Samuel, Chivu and Stam should never be bought in as full-backs as they aren't used to getting forward. This is why we need players like Jankulovski / Cassetti / Mesto / Trabelsi / Evra / Finkel ... full backs who can defend but offer a hell of alot going forward.

Variety is the spice of life though and i do think that 1 winger is necessary, but it won't be the likes of Joaquin or even Vicente as they are too high profile and won't play every game. Someone like Quaresma or Esposito might be useful ... and having just watched the sleep enducing England v Holland, i think Castelen might be one to watch also.

you are right man. the width we need are provided by our left and right back. just last season, there is this article on the importance of left and right back in the modern game and ac milan is used as an example. we lack width on the left flank this season, because last season pancaro was amazing down the left. this season only if maldini play there, we got some attacking going on down there. khala just don't cut it playing as our left back anymore. IMO, we either play maldini on the left or get another left back, evra is really good. and getting esposito to replace serginho might be a good move too.

Well, my point of view a bit differs. IMO we need these players:
- RB [to sub Cafu]
- LB [to sub Billy, Paolo or Peppe who are in age already;)]
- versatile defender who can play in CB and RB/LB

it's more than enough if milan will tie another left side player caused milan all the while ain't common to play with wing or pure left midfielder...
In my sight, enough for left back/midfielder.

Ciao. I think Milan are strong except for the right wing. Cafu is great and Milan should keep him but Stam is not a natural wing he plays best in the middle but I don't think Milan are going to give him way over Nesta and Maldini (unless because of injury or booking) and I don't think they should, Nesta and Maldini in center are a dream center back for all clubs. Also, Milan should try and buy Crespos's full card he palys much better in Italia than in England. Gilardino also is a great player. There is a lot of talk about Totti moving but I don't think he should move to Milan. I miss watching Rui play and his amazing plays with pipo too. All the best.

A few of your points can be questioned. Brazil, yes 5 times winners over history, yet you could say what about Italy with 3 (had it not been for the 1994 disaster it would be 4-4). Just because a team as won it in the past doesn’t mean they contain the best players for the present and future. Secondly, Brazil doesn't have the biggest population, China does by far:

Population (millions)
China 1,300
India 1,087
United States 294
Indonesia 219
Brazil 179
Pakistan 159
Russia 144
Bangladesh 141
Nigeria 137
Japan 128

Does this mean we should focus on China or India? Brazil probably has the biggest ratio of population / footballers but only due to the fact that a majority of kids want to be good enough to get out of a poverty stricken country.

I can't really comment on the best football schools, is it because of investment or just because they have very talented youngsters that go through these schools so it's just a matter of guiding them? Holland has a few good academies, with allot of investment from clubs, but they have dry spells of players when the raw talent isn’t there. You can’t school a player to be great when they don’t have the ability or potential, no matter how much teaching you throw at them.

Personally I don't think we should concentrate on a particular nation just for a few said reasons. We are an elite club in the world, we should be going after the best players no matter what their nationality, as well as concentrate on developing our own (now so more than ever due to the new rules eufa are trying to implement.) If that means Brazilian players so be it, but don't limit our options. :)

Population obviously I meant of all footballing countires.
Football schools, I mean football schools - not just talented yougsters.
They train they yougsters in a way to become athletic and creative like no other nation. Talent wise they shouldn't be different as all human beings are the same. They simply develop them in a fantastic way. You'll never see the superclass Cafu's, Jorginho's and Leonardo's as wingbacks in any other NT.

hmm, I'm still not convinced by what you are saying. All humans are different, we all think different, have our different characteristics, learning aptitudes, physically different. If we are all the same how come we have difference in opinion? If Brazil is so good why has there been no other Pele's ? You can't generate talent like it's a conveyor belt, merely guide it. Maldini was quite the attacking full back in his prime, I don't recall him being Brazilian. If you take a 3 year old kid, who has no co-ordination, or desire to play football, you think you can make them play as good as kaka ? Nope, because it won't happen.

We need to strengthen in all areas to keep going forward.

We need to get some younger legs in, next season could be a step to far for the older players, so maybe we need to increase the squad size a little.

I would like to see some new faces to keep Milan on top, because you can guarantee Juve will, and In Europe Chelsea will probably sign 2 or 3 calss players (Gerrard, Joaquin, Ashley Cole)

Defs - Bonera (or Oddo), Chivu

Mid - Essien, Van Der Vaart (or Ze Roberto)

Faws - Crespo, Gilardino, Miccoli

Out - Brocchi, Thommason, maybe Rui Costa

I agree with you about the defenders, though my choice would be a bit different... I prefer Bonera and Oddo. Chivu is a great player, or actually was, now he is always injured so we have no guarantee that he wont get hurt while wearing rossonero :undecide:

About midfielders... well... I should say that the only oprion you mentioned is appropriate -- VDV. He is much cheaper than he was last year, I guess. The other reason is that he usually plays as a left winger or centre midfielder. So he has superiority over those who can play only in one position ;)

IMO we should keep Crespo and we must sign Gila. These two transfers are most significant. After that we can think about our current strikers... whom to sell -- Pippo or JDT. I prefer Pippo's option. He is a star and he would probably gain us more money than dane. Who is a better player also :D ;)

if were still looking for a CM to replace pirlo and a RB to replace cafu then i suggest we go for sissoko of valencia since he can play both positions and he does it with sheer quality... the kid is a star for the future and i read that dacourt seems to be heading to valencia, if true this could pave way for a move on sissoko

Def - Janku, possibly Oddo or Chivu (i think we need two players for defense as Cafu, while still brilliant should not be relied on to play every game at right back)

Mid - Baronio possibly. but I think they should get someone who can play both Seedorf and Pirlo's position so Seedorf has some competition. Rosicky maybe or Diarra of Lyon or possibly Maresca. we only need 1 player here though.

At- Gilardino. should be the big signing. I read on channel4.com that we're interested in Vucnic, I'm sceptical though whether he's good enough to take the roll upfront we do need to fill. It might be interesting though. The board has to compete in the transfer market this season, we cannot coast by like we have done the last 3 seasons.

we need 4 players, its not to much coz some are leaving the club at the end of the season. First of all....diarra,rositsky,chivu,miccoli and others are NOT COMING to milan. Its sure, but we could get some fresh legs on the wings becouse if we wait too long our defence will have to be replaced all at once, and it wouldnt turn out very good.
Oddo - he can play RB and replace cafu, he is 28 and has some pace and cross ball.
Janku- can playLB and LM, he can cover defence and midfiend as well, really good player
someone in CM- if we dont sign bimmel then we should go for someone like pizzaro, aldough i dont really lie him, he is not top class player, but still ,we need someone, maybe some young talent like essien ( but he is likely to go to chelsky)
GILA- the man in new batigol, he needs to be the main target for summer, and a big signing for the future.

Still im hoping we get this man.....CHIVU....probably not this season, but he is the only one who can replace paolo, plays with left foot and is very creative. Maybe next season, its about time milan spends some real money!!!
