Sunday we play away to Livorno without Andrea Pirlo...

What do u think Ancelotti will do in order to cover his role. At first I thought we may have seen Ambrosini come in but something is telling me that he will use Dhorasoo in the midfield somehow.

What does everyone think?

Ambro is Pirlo's sub now.

Donadoni versus Milan is the big talking point for me.
Its similar to Barca versus Milan earlier in the season in that another former milan legend will be managing a team against his beloved Rosseneri.

Should be quite a game, they had a good win last weekend and remember they drew with us in the San Siro quite fortunately with Dida sent off harshly after 10 mins but they still managed to get a draw. Lucarelli is a top player

pirlo's absence doesn't worry me. we are too strong for livorno. :D

As Livorno can be assumed to defend in numbers I would consider playing Seedorf, Gattuso and D'horasoo behind Kaka rather than letting Ambrosini sub Pirlo.

It hurts a bit, but Donadoni will have to be crushed :( ;)

On Gazzetta they are saying that the formation will look like this:

Dida
Cafu, Stam, Nesta, Maldini
Dhorasoo, Gattuso, Seedorf
Kaka
Shevchenko, Crespo

They said that Gattuso will move more central and Dhorasoo will play where Gattuso normally plays. The game plan will change a bit as Pirlo wont be there to start attacks so that task will fall to Dhorasoo and Seedorf together.

I remember earlier in the seaon(pre-season?) Carlo had opted to field Rui in Pirlo´s place, and I thought he had done more than reasonably well, in fact, it IMO showed Carlo that Rui could be utilised in Pirlo´s role.

While Rui doesnt tackle as well as Pirlo, his vision for the long pass, or the quick one-two is quite similar.

I would hope that Rui or at the very least Dhorasso gets the nod over Ambro...as he is a holding midfielder, and so should replace Gattuso, as he will not be able to provide the defense splitting passes and dribbles that will be necessary to break down Livorno´s packed defense.

Milan should win this game comfortably even without Pirlo

There 's a huge rivalry with the Livorno ultras so i don't just want a victory, but i want them to be literally erased on the pitch

Whatever formation will be,i reckon there`s going to be a lot of goals(of course by us ;) ) bearing on mind we`re on top form and that we want the revenge, last match was quite fortunate for them as some of you mentioned.I believe Carletto is going to play totally offensively because this is our big chance to get to no1 on the list since juve play brescia and it`s quite possible that to end as a draw.(actually i wouldn`t mind brescia winning:D)

Livorno-Milan

Stadio Armando Picchi

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Two former Rossoneri teammates are on the benches of the Stadio Picchi, as Roberto Donadoni and Carlo Ancelotti were part of Il Grande Milan.

Livorno have been something of a problem for Milan this season, holding them to a shock 2-2 draw at San Siro in Week 1. Despite slipping into the bottom half of the table, the Tuscan team still seems to be winning its battle for survival.

The arrival of new Coach Donadoni last week saw Livorno produce a convincing 3-1 victory over Messina, and Milan’s visit presents a mouth-watering opportunity to take more points off the reigning Champions.

However, Carlo Ancelotti’s men will be keen to continue their excellent run of form which has seen them win six out of the last eight games. Donadoni has a full squad available for the tie, whilst Ancelotti is still without injured parties Pippo Inzaghi, Dario Simic, Serginho and Kakha Kaladze. Andrea Pirlo is suspended, and should be replaced by Massimo Ambrosini in midfield.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Livorno (probable): Amelia, Galante, Vargas, A Lucarelli, Balleri, Vigiani, Passoni, Grauso, Doga, Protti, C Lucarelli

Milan (probable): Dida, Cafu, Nesta, Stam, Maldini, Gattuso, Ambrosini, Seedorf, Kakà, Crespo, Shevchenko

is that true? i heard of another rumor today about mutu. it is reported that doper can not sign him yet because of the non-EU limits. so mutu will be registered with livorno, and juventus will send them some other players in return. sucker. :1ang: i don't know whether it is a reliable source or not, but it pissed me off.

Ahh, it feels good to be :rone: nowadays, two points behind Juve is nothing! Right now I´m simply enjoying our progress, I see a bright future for our team and club, especially if we manage to sign Gilardino and even more so if we somehow manage to snatch Marek Jankulovski. Perfect additions to an already great squad and in addition to that good old Billy keeps on extending his contract! :firedev: Against Livorno we´ll get another three points, but Juve will beat Brescia aswell, I have a feeling that neither club will drop any points this weekend. It doesn´t really matter though, cause soon we get a chance to humiliate Lazio, which is a hobby of mine :mex: ...

Alberto Gilardino :star::star::star::star::star:
Marek Jankulovski :star::star::star::star::star:

Come on Mr G, make it happen and we´ll be "all guns, all guns blazin!!!" :gun:

Hi People

Looks as though it will be Ambrosini who steps in to take Pirlo's position for the match on sunday. At least that will add a little more muscle to the midfield which is good as Livorno are quite aggressive in their play.

I've watched the match against Cervia today and i've seen very good things from either Ambro and Dhorasoo

the sad thing for me is i hope rui doesn't play, just so he can get fed up of sitting on the bench and decide to move somewhere where he can play on a more regular basis...it would be great if he for once became selfish....

I just hope that Ambro doesnt start in Prilos role, my vote goes for Vikash. He can pass the ball better then Ambro and he fights in deffence better then Pirlo. Ambro is pure deffincive player and balls got to go thru someone in the middle and because of that i hope its gonna be Vikash. Otherwise we will not have someone who is distributing balls and can from now and then try to cut with some clever passes and dribbles thru Livornos defence.
Vikash has really shown that hes worth a place in starting 11 even when everyone is healthy. At the current form hes better then Clarence whos in poor form right now.

Ambrosini actually have better distribution skill than many give him credit for. If Ambrosini is playing than both the LB and the RB can dare to venture forward more than if Vikash or Pirlo played.

You mean not if Dhorasoo or Rui played? Because Pirlo usually sits back as well, and cuts their counter-attacks..

I really would have preferred to see Rui play, I think he has the best individual skills in Milan, and its just so beautiful to watch him play.. unfortunately, Carlotti said the Ambro will start in Pirlo's place..

I want Rui to play there but its not gonna happen.

I miss seeing him dribble past players effortlessly.

This can be only the game of the year for Bayman because Pirlo is out. Whatever reason that is, there is a point to prove tonight for someone else here.

And, he may well have this only chance.

Giovanni
22-01-2005, 04:02
Funny that Bayman complains about Pirlo and wants spanish mids, and the spaniard Madrid would offer the impossible to have Pirlo :faint:

Henrik
22-01-2005, 08:50
Allthough I don't agree, I think Bayman has a point concerning Pirlo. As I understand it, his point is not that he dislikes Pirlo, but that he does not like Pirlo in that position. I agree to 50% and here is my reasoning for it:

Pirlo is an absolute genius at starting counter-attacks with those long sweeping and precise passes. This skill is particularely usefull when playing against quality teams (top Serie A team and close to all CL teams) that attack on their own steam. Pirlo is IMO unsubstitutional in open rolling games.

Against weaker teams, who defend in numbers, however, Pirlo's usefullness is limited. It is close to impossible to break a defense consisting of 10 players with his passes. Against such teams, Milans attack cannot focus on quick movements of the ball up the center of the field. This has been tried with limited success many times. Instead an increased focus on the wings (breadth of the game) is required. In the past Serginho has been brought into games like this. D'horasoo is another interesting option, as he is a quick dribbler. Jankulowski would be a fantastic signing, especially for this purpose.

Milans great advantage is that we have a deep squad of quality players, who possess different qualities. The individual strengths of the players can be exploited by the manager in different types of games. Pirlo is a fantastic player but his qualities, just like most other players, suit certain opponents and game types better than others.

Vive la difference! :)

Donadoni faces Rossoneri friends Saturday 22 January, 2005

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Roberto Donadoni won every trophy with Milan and now takes on his former teammates in only his second Serie A match as Livorno Coach.

“It is my job to put sentimental matters aside for this match,” conceded the 41-year-old. “I, and the side, must remain concentrated on the task at hand and picking up some very important points.”

The ex-midfielder wore the Rossoneri jersey from 1986 to ’99, pausing for two years with his spell at the New York Metrostars, clocking up 18 goals in 284 games.

He won six Scudetto titles, three European Cups, two Intercontinental Cups, three European Supercups and four Italian Supercups – many of them alongside Carlo Ancelotti, Paolo Maldini and Alessandro ‘Billy’ Costacurta.

“We all had great fun together during those successful years. Now Ancelotti is a world class Coach and there is no denying it."

"Paolo still has a few more years left in him, but I am truly astonished to see Billy out there every week," concluded Donadoni. "I’m very happy for him, as it isn’t easy to keep your body in shape.”

Costacurta surprised many this week by signing an extension to his contract that will keep him at Milan until after his 40th birthday.

Tough match ahead tomorrow as the side will have to accept quite a hostile atmosphere.

Lets hope it is not a repeat of the first match this season. Lucarelli can cause some problems, so the defence will have to watch out.

I also hear stam is to play RB, not sure why though unless anyone can explain.

Our side need to be careful, particularly as Donadoni seems to be a decent manager. Also hope our fans show him some appreciation tomorrow :)

Anyway, I think our side is determined this match and believe we'll come out on top!!

FORZA MILAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ps - X-Men are on fire!! They might become the first team to ever go the whole season unbeaten and not win the league :grinser:

When I watch a few more games this year when playing against smaller team, Pirlo has been equally good... may not be as 'effective'... but nevertheless a football genius. An absolute contrast with Gattuso hahahaha!

Dev it's not possible that he would get a bad welcome

Once a player is "forever rossonero" he will remain that for the rest of his life.

I was at Donadoni's last match in San Siro (even though he had a late spell a few time after) and it was absolutely AMAZING

DONADONI EHEHE
DONADONI OHOOH

From Channel4:

Ancelotti: Victory is only option
Sunday 23 January, 2005
Milan have no margin for error if they are to take the Scudetto off Juventus, warns Carlo Ancelotti ahead of their tricky trip to Livorno.

“Juve will take the title if they win every single game from here until the end of the season,” noted the Coach.

“If Milan do the same, we will get the Scudetto. These two clubs are in the same position and we’re better off than at this time last year.”

The Rossoneri have closed the gap to just two points and at this moment seem to have the momentum, though the Stadio Picchi is not an easy place to conquer.

“Cristiano Lucarelli is on stunning form and their midfielders can really break forward with pace. It is a tough stadium to play in, but we have to be able to impose our style on any game and any environment.”

It will be a particularly special occasion for Ancelotti, who comes face to face with his former teammate Roberto Donadoni. They are only two of the ‘Grande Milan’ members who went on to management careers, such as Frank Rijkaard, Ruud Gullit and Marco Van Basten.

“It will be a little strange. Donadoni was a great teammate and some are already pinpointing him as my successor here. I’m happy at the San Siro, though everything comes to an end and we’ll see what happens then. Right now, I don’t want to think about it.”

For that same reason, Paolo Maldini hasn’t set a date for his retirement despite celebrating the 20th anniversary of his Serie A debut this week.

“Paolo loves working hard for the good of the team and he is more than capable of taking that left-back role. Jaap Stam can also play on the right when needs be, while Kakha Kaladze is set to return in Wednesday’s Coppa Italia game with Udinese.”

Massimo Ambrosini should step in to the midfield in place of the suspended Andrea Pirlo against Livorno.

Gk: Dida, Abbiati, Dei Forti.

D: Cafu, Costacurta, Maldini, Nesta, Pancaro, Stam.

M: Ambrosini, Brocchi, Dhorasoo, Gattuso, Kakà, Rui Costa, Seedorf, Serginho.

F: Crespo, Shevchenko, Tomasson

1 hour and 15 minutes to go. Here is the probable line-up according to the Gazetta:
