View Full Version : AC Milan - Cagliari (Pre-game & Game comments)
This game is on Saturday. As usual this is a must win match, although Cagliari aren't exactly doing bad this season. It will be interesting to see what team Carlo fields, considering Pirlo is still out, and the Man U match is next...and then the derby....and so on.....interesting week ahead ;)
and hopefully Messina will do some damage against the zebras ;)

Actually Pirlo will be available for selection, at least according to www.tgcom.it, but even then I would prefer him to be rested and I hope Carlo won't force things given the fact that Milan will play 8 games in the next 28 days - a fundamental period for the whole season.
I hope Kaka and even Sheva get a rest for this game for we will need them very, very fresh for the ManU game. Furthermore, Kaka has 4 yellow cards and one more would mean him missing the Milan derby next weekend.
My choice for a midfield would be Ambro with Seedorf, Dhorasoo, and Rui behind Crespo and Tomasson - I still believe we can play well without Sheva if the squad is well motivated and concentrated, things we will need at maximum for the remainder of the season.
For defense, I would keep things normal and wouldn't play around too much with it although I am not sure if Nesta doesn't have 4 yellows i.e. in danger of missing the derby. If so I would rest him and play either Stam or Costacurta. Anyways, I would keep it to a 4 men defence for Cagliari are very dangerous on the counter attack.
Needless to say this is a MUST-win game, one of many for the rest of the season, that is.

Yes I agree that this match is an important one. We shouldn't have as tough a time against Cagliari, they like to attack more than a lot of the other teams we have played against recently. I hope Ancelotti goes with a 4-4-2 for this game and rests Cafu, Shevchenko and Kaka. Gattuso needs to play no more than 60 mins either. Wednesday is important!!! Ancelotti will need to rotate again now.
I think against Cagliari we should go like this:
Dida
Stam, Nesta, Maldini, Pancaro
Brocchi, Rui Costa, Ambrosini, Serginho
Tomasson, Crespo

It is 5 yellow cards. Here is the list of all Milan players who already have 4 and if booked again in the game vs Cagliari, they will have to saty home for the Milan derby:
Gattuso, Ambrosini, Kaladze, Cafu, Nesta e Kaką
these are fundamental players most of whom we cannot afford to lose for the derby. I would expect some rotations for the Cagliari game and , according to the latest news, Carlo will be starting with Pirlo in midfield, which I think is not a very wise decision but ...
I would not care at all if after Saturday we had 3 points gained in the most, lucky, awful display of football we've played this season. The games afterwards this one are too important to expect us to be firing on all cylinders with our best team. You only have to look at this site to realise that, the games tomorrow and this thread has 6 replies. Everyone is thinking about Man U and then Inter (whose unbeaten record I hope we beat)

Cagliari are a good team but away from home they achieved little. It is said that Ancelotti is making a bulky turnover because we have 6 players that risk suspernsion and because of the next important games vs man u and inter.

tonights game is very important coz i see Juve take 3pts very easly and they are pretty motivated and meeting Real on Wed would be really tough so they wana finish this off early and look ahead.
so this game we should try to finish it off very early the first half knowing that there played who need one more yellow card and bye bye for Derby i know none of them will wana miss that game.
the best formation for us right now is havin 4-3-1-2

Esposito is causing quite some trouble for Pancaro. Already booked....
sheva didn't look badly injured. he seem extremely pissed to be sub. we are totally in control of the game. its like 8-0 for corners. we had quite a few good chances but all blocked by their keeper who look to be in top form. but having both crespo and tomasson doesn't seem to work well. i hope kaka can sub in to replace tomasson. BTW seedorf seem to be on song today, waving in and out of the opposition's defense without losing a single ball. rui costa and cafu are pretty good too. basically the whole team is playing quite well.

Tomasson had a good chance but came inches short of Seedorf's cross...
Brocchi is really hustling out there ..
hopefully its a matter of time before Crespo or Tomasson get a clear chance ..
Good to see Pirlo back and Rui is also adapting quite well given his absence from the starting line-up in quite a while

Dhorasoo isn't injured nor exhausted. He simply has no dressing room power and even Ambrosini is preferred to him despite having only 50% of his talent. Apparently some older players have an interest in not giving him playtime to not lose their starting spot.

because there isn't any place for him in the team yet. i don't mind Dhorasoo coming in, he should be able to create something. IMO we are wasting a player by using both crespo and tomasson because they tend to stay inside the box which is crowded out by the defense. we need more movement outside the box, like what seedorf is doing. i see that rui costa seem to be taking over the job of combining with cafu, together they stretched the opposition defense a great deal. and pirlo is also doing his job. we just need to take more chances outside the box and hope that the luck finally come.
and take pancaro off, he isn't even half the player he was last season. serginho would be more useful playing in his place.

We'll be in joint 1st place. Goal difference does not matter in Serie A. If we're tied with Juve on points at the end of the season, then a 2-legged playoff will be played to decide who wins the scudetto.

We attack as Pancaro attacks and crosses, but its been dealt with.
