hahahaha...we did it again in the Theatre of Dreams :dcool: We were so cool around the ball, we practically looked like the Home team :D
Anyway, Crespo's goal made this win even sweeter to taste :lick:
I bet Koku, Paulfin and the rest of the Man U posters are too busy now to post comments here ; busy munching their own words!!~~ :haha:
Comments by Milan Fans please?~

Forza Crespo!!
Forza Milan!!!
Wow we win 1-0 while I was watching game I thought we are playing
in final game of champion leauge Ac Milan did a wonderful job in Defence-
mf and attack. we realy deserve a win. I have to admit that I was wrong
about crespo as he scored our wining goal. I was so happy that we showed
agreat team like man united and other that Milan cann't affected with only
player injured as we play as whole team. the only think I was sad is Nesta
got yellow card. Nesta played according to me his best game. Rui costa
also did his best. Man united also play hard but they couldn't do their
best when our great Defender stoped them.

We played well because Man U is willingly to attack, unlike our Serie A oppositions. This gives us more space to roam and chances to shoot from outside. Man U made a tactical error by substituting Ronaldo. He is quite a menace down the flank. But i was glad he was sub-ed :D
Ruud never fails to make me laugh when he comes on the pitch :haha: The english players were frowing from end to end throughout the match while our players were all putting on a smiley face. This shows that we have the composure to sustain in this high-level competition and maybe all the way to the podium :D
Importantly is the away goal!
Forza Crespo!!
Forza Milan!!!
should we rename Old Trafford to Old San Siro cus Milan always do well there ;)
apparantly the Man U fans gave milan a standing ovation. interestingly sporting of them
Great result, don't really understand that Ronaldo substitution but I missed most of the game thanx to what happened here on MM and other stuff

I prefer meeting the real galacticos........... in the final and show them who is the best around.....
we can kill them with their weak defending ...... they will give a lot of space to the fast kaka... and sheva hopefully would be back........
they are getting better but they will not be able to match us since it has been 3 years now that we are working in the same consistance give or take few games.
Milan Played Well And Deserved To Win You Should Be Thankful Stam Injured Himself During The Warm Up Cafu Was The Best Player On The Pitch And Also Could You Please Sign Roy Carrol From Us For The Second Leg
Well done Milan!!i worried a little in the first half because MU had some great chance to score. We played well in the second half especial our defense, they had no chances to score on us!and Caroll did a mistake.Anyway we deserved a win!

Tho I wasn't watching it via TV live match this early morning, not only because I was tired of studying through Schrodinger equation solution in my lecturer notes, but becuz I was willing for not watching it. As a Milanista since childhood ( but made my vows to be a part of Rossoneri family in 1994. I'm not following Malaysian football trend to support EPL ), this match was enough to snatch all my courageous to watch it.
BTW I was more happy abt the away win...
But spoiled by MM hacking incident, can only write it in my weblogs this morning, :d33:
Anyway congrats to all Milanista !!! You all deserve this ! :rone:

This is not meant to be a cynical post, but I think some of you are overlooking the fact that we could have been 2-0 down by half time.
Man Utd didn't put away their chances, but I thought our defence looked a bit shaky, maybe even nervous, in the first 30 minutesof the match. Nesta had a poor start, gave the ball away a few times, but got better as the match worse on. Maldini was also not having his best game, but I knew Ancelotti would eb able to change things in the 2nd half and Milan quickly improved and wer the better team in the the 2nd hald and deserved to win in the end and it could have been more, if only Kaka had passed.
Crespo had a hard job playing up front on his own, but did well in the end. He is still not the player we need as he doesn't hold the ball up well enough or have the ferocious pace to be really dangerous and he certainly isn't worth £10m
I thought we got players forward to support him, but we overcommitted players at times, which left us stretched when our counter attack broke down i.e. the Fortune shot which just missed the post.
Gattuso, Cafu, Pirlo (even with some wayward passes at times). but particularly Seedorf, played really well and I think, with Sheva and Stam back for the home leg, we have a good chance. Also, where is Inzaghi, does anyone know when he is back from injury, as I can't believe it but we miss him?

"Milan are just playing some fantastic attacking football
that I doubt the home side would have expected."
Think: if only they could get a cross in from Cafu which wasn't too high or too low....
Yes, not a perfect game by Milan, but the REAL DEVIL team deserved.
Utd play is too much poor.
I remember the Old Utd, the Bobby Charlton Utd.
An other story, totally different.
Today, they lack of pure class (and experience)
Not at our best, but this 50% Milan is enough for the Fergie boyz.
What a control of the ball: Man Utd narcotized.
I'm over joyed, even though we deserved more.
We went to machester AND MADE THE GAME. I was feared by C Ronaldo but Kaladze did very well, Nesta Maldini Dida, where super as always.
Stam got injured (hope he has nothing) but was an advantage playing with Cafu.
Midfield boys where brilliant. I don't have more points to add;
At the goal the atmosphere was incredible people where flying from all places in the Milan club. I was drunk by the result, later with alcohol :diablo: Now hangover but who cares?? I'm just too happy
BTW where are those united fans e.g; Koku?????? :devf:
Congratulations to all Milanisti for that great victory and a huge step towards securing our quarterfinals place . In addition a huge morale booster at this critical stage of our season . Actually before anything Carlo Ancelotti deserves full praise for this result and the way he managed the match tactically was superb . Before the match Carlo's main focus was to keep hold of ball possession as much as we can slowing down the tempo of the match and imposing our style on them . Actually the players completely succeded in that playing the possession game and showing maximum tactical discipline and fighting spirit . It is extremely difficult to handle Man UTD this way at their home especially that they have a very strong attack . We played with Crespo as a lone forward supported by Kaka and Rui Costa and I believe Carlo opted for Rui Costa ahead of Serginho to serve his tactic of keeping hold of ball possession without rushing into attack . Actually apart from a clear goalscoring opportunity to Fortune in the first half that went inches wide we were rarely under threat and our defenders prevailed . Equally we had were unfortunate not to take the lead early after a long range bullet from Seedorf bounced off the crossbar . Near the end of the match we snatched a late victory showing the character of champions after a long range shot from dutchman Seedorf rebounded off their keeper Roy Carrol to find Crespo on the follow up to finish it off . Anyway we still have a task to do in the second leg and we shouldn't rest on this result . Hopefully we can have king of goalscorers Sheva available because that will make a real difference . Now we can switch our attentions to the tough derby looking forward to a victory . Forza Milan .

Man. United didn´t play well, but we also must remember that there are two teams in the field, and we MADE United look so bad. We simply outplayed and outsmarted United in a way that I have not seen before, and furthermore we did it at The Theater of Dreams
Gattuso, Pirlo and Seedorf were among our best players, but really this was a TEAM effort and much credit must go to the whole team and also Ancelotti for making the perfect tactic.
We controlled the ball completely throughout the game and therefore we were able to slow down the speed of the game and thereby we could control the match completely.
Yes, United had some big chances and could have taken the lead but you can never ever keep United from creating chances especially in Old Trafford. They olny looked dangerrous on their fast brakes, when we had many men at their half and then lost the ball.
Now let´s not forget that we are not in the quaterfinals yet, we all remember what happened last year and I´m glad Tomasson after the match said to danish TV that "Nothing is settled yet, last year we won 4-1 against Depertivo and then made a fool out of ourselves".
If we think we are allready through then we will get huge problems in the second leg... we have the upperhand and I do think we will win the second match also, but we need a fully concentrated performance like tonight to do that.

manchester had 2 clear chances with scholes and fortune but they missed
they could win this game
but we won!
ım happy but we didnt play well
My god we didnt play well??!??!?!??!?!?!?!??!?!?
We CONTROLED the game.
The game was played OUR way.
If Kaká wasnt so selfish, the second leg would have been much more confortable.

great performance great nite watched the match wiith a lot of friends who support man u in the pub. milan you did us proud
I watch the game in a sportsbar where they showed both the Milan game and the Barca game on big screen. The place was jam-packed with english tourists. All left disappointed ;)
ManU positives:
1. Central defence actually looked pretty good indeed
2. C. Ronaldo did cause some trouble on his side
3. ManU were very very quick on the counter attack (something we must control in the return leg)
ManU negatives:
1. Playing with a lone striker against the best defense around was a bad coaching mistake
2. ManU played with 10 men behind the ball and looked like a mid table team playing away from home. Weather or not that tactic can work, it is not an honourable way to play for a team of ManU stature.
3. Keane who?
Milan Positives:
1. At least 60 minutes of one-touch acurate passing. We owned the midfield
2. Cafu - without him our game would have been pretty but boring. Even though his passing wasn't up to standards, he added width to our game that was desperately needed.
3. Fighting spirit - Milan took the game to Manchester and controlled it. Yes, ManU missed great opportunities, but so did Milan (Seedorf, Kaka, Crespo).
Milan negatives:
1. Even though we controlled the game, we did not create much. We need two strikers and strong wing-backs to not only control but to capitalize on the domination.
Spurs milan i was wondering of asking you this question, are u tottenham fan or san antonio spurs?

Ciao tutti!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I cannot beging to tell you how good I feel today!!!! I was at the match last night and before we give the players and the coach all the credit that they so rightly deserved lets put our hands together for the Milan fans!!!!! Although I am sure those who were uinable to attend did their bit infron of the screans but the fans that were at Old trafford were awsome!!!!! We out sang the 60,000 Man Utd supporters! and we gave them a lesson in passion towards your team! We were great and! So as a specail request to all you milanisti out there lets have a specail well done to the Curva!!!!!!
:)
Regular as clockwork  :shades:
It was one of the most power-packed away displays by our side. We got our FIRST WIN IN ENGLAND AGAINST ENGLISH OPPOSITION ever and we did it against the most in-form team! Credit to United though!! They played as well as they could've. Our midfield simply outclassed them (passing wise) and forced them to play counter-attack while being pegged back.
The first touches and triangles by our players were awesome! Simple short length passes making the Utd. players run ragged to try and win back the ball. We looked like the home side. Then again Manchester is like our home.
I have to say that Pirlo & Seedorf were the biggest players for us in the midfield! Both co-ordinated extremely well! They were monsters. Our key man Alexander the Great held his own! Class performance. While Utd.'s key man Scholes had an off night by his high standards.
I loved the way our team was running its socks off to keep up with the Utd. players. :D Carlo prepared them well. He is a LEGEND for us. Win in Deutschland after 44 years and now the first one in England!
Forza Carletto! :star:
Utd. could rue the two main chances they had. On another day Scholes would've nailed his chance with ease. And MisFortune ... well .. anybody but him. :D
When the players were shown in the tunnel I noticed the body language of both sets of players and Keane looked flustered. If you get a chance to see it again then you will see how our side was standing and how Keane glanced from time to Maldini. Nervous look. No wonder Keane didn't have a big game.
Utd. taste defeat at OT after 2001 (November) when La Coruna beat them 2-3.
The tie is definitely not over however Utd. do have a mountain to climb. The first mistake that they made was think that Milan being an Italian team will sit back and defend. The second mistake they did was compare us to Juventus and their record against Italian opposition (Juve, Inter, Fiorentina) being good.
Now another mistake they will make is start comparing the Stadio Delle Alpi and the win in Turin in '99 to the challenge that is set for them.
It can be done. Utd. can still qualify. But remember that this is the STADIO SAN SIRO where the hosts are Milan. Turin '99 at 2-0 down and San Siro at kick-off are equal. :)
Very good game by both sides. Surely tonight some opinions here would have changed.
NIALL QUINN is PUBLIC ENEMY number 2 after Andy "I know $hit" Townsend. Poor old clueless Quinn predicted a 2-0 win for Utd. when he doesn't even know the Milan starting line-up! And the clown as expected gave the example of Turin in his post game comments that it can be done. At least watch the Serie A to make a sound judgment on it!! More so know a thing or two about Milan. The reference standard from Italia.
Credit to IAN DARKE (my favourite commentator). So passionate in his commentating and so neutral nowadays! Much improved since the last 6 years! Having watched Serie A games (DARKE) and been to the SAN SIRO to commentate on Milan quite regularly he was listening quietly to QUINN's Post match comments and his (IAN DARKE) look said it all: "YOU CLUELESS FREAK. Only 90 mins ago you were sure that Milan would not even come out of their own half and now you think Utd. can go to the San Siro to get a win like they did in Turin!!" :howler: :howler:
No disrespect to Utd. or its fans!! Only disrespect is towards TOWNSEND & QUINN who haven't watched Serie A games ever and only watch a Serie A team when they play an EPL side in the UCL. No wonder they are so clueless. I'm happy that they (Townsend & Quinn) got *****-slapped tonight! Ray Wilkins knows the task at hand and was quiet. There is such a difference btw the people who know Milan and who don't in their comments. Wilkins and Darke. Neutral, sound and unbiased! :star:
Looking forward to the 2nd leg. This is Utd. and they will come hard at us. Superb game coming up in a fortnight. Utd. will make a match of it but WE ARE MILAN
P.S Mission Impossible completed. Now onto Mission Impossible 2 and defeat the only undefeated team!

Milan negatives:
1- Even though we controlled the game, we did not create much.

First of all CONGRATS to all Milan fans. Our team did make us proud last night, and not only.
I, just like most of you guys, believe that the players executed the game plan close to perfection - we had total control on the game and if ManU were not their usual self and looked more like the away team this is the result of how we played. Our guys managed the game according to our game plan and frustrated the hell out of all ManU players and this is thanks to Ancelotti's favorite "l'albero natale" for Milan always seemed to have an extra players or two in midfield. I believe that even if Sheva was not injured, Milan should have still played with the X-tree formation given the strengths of ManU.
We must admit, however, that ManU did have a couple of very good chances the first of which was due to a slightly nervous start by our defence, Nesta in particular, while the second was a pure tacticle error of committing too many players forward. I must also agree with paulfin that we were a bit "lucky" that Cafu played instead of Stam for the brazilian was a constant menace on the right and, along with Gattuso, made otherwise great players such as Giggs (my favourite manU player) and Heinze look ordinary at best. This, however, does NOT change the fact that we totally outplayed ManU on their own ground and made this great team look very subdued and humble, in fact.
I think the most legitimate proof of how Milan performed last night was the reaction of ManU fans after the game - a standing ovation for the guest team, which had just managed to teach their beloved ManU a football lesson. Unfortunately, such a reaction is something one doesn't see way too often in modern football. Way to go ManU fans.
All in all, this tie is still wide open and Milan need to play the second leg as if it were 0-0 for we will all relive a Riazor-like nightmare in a fortnight's time. A 1 goal lead vs a team like ManU means close to nothing at this stage of the CL. In fact, I would expect the San Siro game to be much more difficult for Milan given the characteristics of ManU 's players - very very quick on the counter - and their team spirit when their backs are against the wall. I hope Carlo would use the X-tree formation again even if Sheva is available for I do believe that saturating the midfield and suffocating the opposition is the only way to deal successfully with lightning-fast players like Giggs, Rooney, and C Ronaldo, especially when you have already scored a goal - it would be very stupid to play an attack-minded formation at the San Siro vs ManU for then they will be the ones whose goals would count for more.
Again congrats to all Milan fans and now let kick us some Inter butt.
Forza Diavolo vero!!!
I`m very happy about this result 1-0 for Milan is almost victory for us! We showed our power! ACtually we are ACMILAN!!!!!!! :p283:

Milan played with a good team spirit and teamwork ......but during the match i was telling myself "wonder what it would be like if sheva was available".

There will be only one favourite team......It's either Milan or nothing

TIMES ONLINE
Crespo pounced on a mistake by Roy Carroll to give Milan what seems a commanding lead to take to the second leg at the San Siro.
Even in Europe, it seems, Manchester United cannot escape the menacing shadow that Chelsea have cast over English football in the past 18 months. They were outclassed for long stages last night by an AC Milan team intent on regaining the European Cup they won at Old Trafford in 2003, but it was not until the late intervention of Hernán Crespo, a forward still on Chelsea’s payroll after joining the Italian club on loan last summer, that a disappointing evening’s work assumed the feel of a disaster. Crespo pounced on a mistake by Roy Carroll with 12 minutes left and United now have a mountain to climb in the San Siro on March 8.
THE INDEPENDENT
Roy Carroll began the day by rejecting a new contract offer from Manchester United and by its end, his manager, Sir Alex Ferguson,
might wonder whether any further talks are necessary.
DAILY TELEGRAPH
Hernan Crespo, who left Chelsea on extended loan to AC Milan last summer, returned to England to break the hearts of Manchester United with the winner in the Champions League clash last night.
THE SUN
Roy Carroll gifted Milan victory and left Manchester United on a Champions League knife-edge. Keeper Carroll fumbled Clarence Seedorf's 78th-minute shot straight to Hernan Crespo and the on-loan Chelsea striker fired home.
DAILY MIRROR
Cock-up keeper Roy Carroll put Manchester United on the brink of a Champions League exit last night. Carroll failed to hold Clarence Seedorf's 79th-minute shot and the ball rebounded off his body to Hernan Crespo, who gave AC Milan a precious away goal.
DAILY STAR
Manchester United are on the brink of crashing out of the Champions League - thanks to another goalkeeping cock-up
DAILY EXPRESS
Manchester United have a mountain to climb after a mistake by goalkeeper Roy Carroll left their Champions League hopes hanging by a thread.
DAILY MAIL
Roy Carroll has contributed a number of mistakes during Manchester United's peculiar season but surely none so costly as the one that nudged Manchester United close to Champions League elimination last night.
I want to see Monsieur Silvestre :whie: in San Siro, parbleu! :beach:

Yes i heard the anthems, the guys always do a great job on away matches..i remember during last year's Juve-Milan..we totally outsang them
But i tell you more: the United fans will never forget the San Siro voice..i'm organising great things for the second leg..we'll be ferocious singers and the atmosphere will be scary..that's for guarantee and i will give 100%, sure my friends will do the same..
Thanks Ginoformaggino, nice compilation of news :)
I was lucky enough to watch Milan live for the first time yesterday. When I got home i had so much to say, but the site was down :zany: well done for getting back up by the way. My man walmania is right the united fans were so quiet and were sat down all game. The Milan fans only sat down at half time and didnt stop screaming, I dont even speak Italian, and even I lost my voice.
I found that Gatusso is one of the highlights when watching Milan, his tackles make the fans go crazy and when he tells the fans to increase the volume by waving his arms its sooo amazing and everyone does of course. Cafu is brilliant to watch, the guy never stopped running and Kaladze was awesome, he looked very tidy yesterday. It was surreal watching Nesta and Maldini, to tell you the truth I had a big smile on my face when either of them made a tackle :sweeteye: That was dreamland.Apart from the goal Crespo was really quiet. I did watch him for a while just to see what kind of movement he makes and it just seemed as if he wasnt gettin in the box and aggressively looking for space. Kaka and Rui were good to watch whenever they got invloved, Kaka did impose himself more in the second half but they were still important for the possession football we played yesterday. The midfield was something special!! Gattusso was just Gatusso :diablo: Seedorf was brilliant, watching him live , he looked so skillfull, his first touch let him down once or twice, but he helped Milan control the game. What can I say about Pirlo, those turns he did to the Man U players were awesome, they completely shut the United fans up :diablo: My advice for anyone who doesnt realise how important he is to Milan, you need to watch him live. Every time the defence had the ball he was free to receive it and yeah he gave a couple of passes away, but honestly it did seem as if everything would go through him. What an experience, Im hooked and I will defo go again :uhm:
i saw the match in a sports bar and there was no soucd because the commentation came from the barca-chelsea match which was on the big screen... i think we looked really slow in the build up, we used to be much faster last season, i dont think we played as great as many people here say we did, surely we were the better team but it looked kinda dull (maybe because there was no sound) but i thought we should be faster, if sheva was there im sure we would have scored around 2 more goals... the defence was great eventhough i was dissapointed not to see coverage on the right in that fortune shot. excellent result, im dissapointed kaka was very selfish but thats ok.
Haroon, Niall, who??
maybe, ToniCascarino rough and fat copy?
Retired Irish striker, played for Sunderland.
Ray Wilkins is the best, isnt he an ex Milan player or was it Samp. Anyway he always quietly backs the Italian sides especially Milan and then has to put up with the looks he recieves from the "know jack all" English pundits :hammer:
Playing fast or slow doesnt mean anything, the important thing is controlling the game. Theres no doubt with Sheva we would have had ANOTHER deadly weapon yesterday, but we were the best team and we played great. :)

Well they do applaud good football. Prime examples would be the season when Arsenal won the league at Old Trafford and, the Real match two seasons ago.
Perhaps its because they knew that Shankly was out of his mind when he elevated football matches to a status higher than matters of life and death.
I know there is always hope, but Manchester have no chance to win the CL, and to progress past Milan. If Milan cant bypass this lot, then we are a very average team, and last nights result can be described as "reality".

K77SHC get back to your uni work!!! we had fun yesterday though!!!!!!
When we saw the rossoneri supporters around manchester, when we chatted with those nice optmistic mancunians (unfortunatly optimisimn doesnt win you games especailly when the opponent is the Mighty Milan), when we squeezed in to the tram to Old Trafford, when we roared at Crespo's goal, when we cheered on hearing Inter's score and most importantly when we walked out of the stadium knowing that we as supporters had earned the respect of the Man Utd faithfull for being the best supporters in the World that support the Greatest club in the World. Moments that will never be forgotton!
Thank you Milan!
I thought the whole team played very well last night, and it's the best I've seen Pirlo play for a long time. The whole midfield was amazing and Cafu didn't stop running! If only his crosses had been a bit more accurate.
But I thought the most impressive player was Kaladze. I have never really rated him that highly, but last night he was awesome, and reduced the threat of Ronaldo and Giggs. If he keeps playing like that, I certainly hope he won't end up going to Chelsea as part of the deal to sign Hernan.
Forza Milan
kaladze on form, is one of our best players. milan won't let him go. trust me.

Milan were excellent and deserved their victory. While Manchester created a couple of good chances they couldn't get hold of the ball enough to worry Milan.
I was glad to see Cafu play, and he had an excellent game. The defence was very good. Nesta and Maldini rock solid as usual, Kaladze very good.
The midfield was outstanding. Gattuso was brilliant, even with a few misplaced passes. They say Keane is strong and domineering, he was shown up last night.
But the game is far from over. It wasn't a case of whether Man U were playing badly or not, it was just they weren't let play.
10/10
Not the greatest Milan, but good enough for an away win. And respect to the ManU fans who applauded the opponent in spite of their disappointment.
One question: When is Filippo Inzaghi back, does anyone know? Will he be back for the 2nd leg with Shevchenko?
Inzaghi is supposed to be on the bench for the Derby. I'm hoping it's true. I somehow don't think Shevchenko will be ready for the second leg. This is a serious injury, and it's also the second time he got his face smashed in. I'd rather see him take all the time he needs, physically and mentally.
Milan Played Well And Deserved To Win You Should Be Thankful Stam Injured Himself During The Warm Up Cafu Was The Best Player On The Pitch And Also Could You Please Sign Roy Carrol From Us For The Second Leg
Sorry, Paulfin, you can keep your goalkeeper(s). And stay away from Abbiati! ;)
just a few thoughts (i'm a utd season ticket holder for my sins and was there last night)...
1. As everyone has said Milan deserved to win.
2. If Scholes or Fortune had scored it would have been a different game but if is the biggest word in football and by the end i was relieved it was only 0-1.
3. Ronaldo was our best player, Giggs had one of his poorest nights, so it was fantastic to see Sir Alex take him off. You could see even some of the players were surprised especially Keane. Great to see that Sky avoided that question post match entirely.
4. i just hope the ticket prices from the touts in Milan have now gone down thanks to last nights result!!
5. respect is due to all the Milan fans who hardly stopped singing. Hopefully you'll see that our away fans are just as encouraging in a couple of weeks.

I am a Tottenham fan. I have supported Spurs since 1985, when I was 5. I have supported Milan since 1990, just after italia '90. You could say Milan is my glory side, as Spurs have been so disappointing in the last decade:)

Hello Milan Fans. Just joined the forum and I am a Milan supporter from California, USA. After watching the game against United, a couple of thoughts:
Milan played very well away from home in United's house. Long spells of possession that took the Red Devils out of their game. Nesta and Maldini worked well in shutting down Rooney, who was absent for most of the game. When Ruud did come on, he was kept in check as well except for one long ball into the box, that he had trouble dealing with. Cafu was running hard the entire night and was perhaps the most impressive for Milan. Outstanding effort for the Brazilian. Defense overall was excellent
We have an excellent opportunity to take out United in the second leg but there are things we need to work on. A couple of times we got caught up field and United exploited us with their speed, especially with Ronaldo and Fortune, who was pushing up hard in the first half of the match. Scholes missed a golden opportunity that he should have done better with and Fortune took an awkward first touch and missed a wide open goal. We need to be mindful of their speed. Why they took Ronaldo off the pitch in the second half is a questionable decision in my mind as he was a huge threat in space. And then there is Carroll. My God, what a blunder. For the United fans out there, didn’t he have a screw up similar to this with a volley from about midfield that he botched and it went in, only it didn’t count? Crespo was fine but Sheva buries that beautiful thru ball from Kaka. Seedorf in my opinion played excellent as well. A great win for Milan!

We had the most of the ball, sometimes United players where just running after the ball.

Franco 6,
First off, not a United Fan although I do enjoy watching them in action when the Premiership is on - attacking team.
Second, yes, Seedorf’s free kick was brilliant as that should have went in. Well struck and Carroll was well beaten. Unlucky
Third, we can play the “what if” game to death… how about Kaka being dragged down in the box with a no call? Crespo missing an opportunity from about 6 meters, etc, etc.
Finally, overconfidence? I remember the Riazor and Deportivo. We can’t get overconfident and allow ourselves to think we were so dominant that we need not improve our game. We were caught on the counter twice and both times United had much more pace than our boys. Scholes blew a chance that should have been converted and Fortune butchered another where Dida has sprawled out (I think he slipped…noticed that a couple of times from several of the players). Yes, these are “what if’s” and all in all, Milan played very well and controlled the flow of the game for long periods of time. Excluding the two runs that United had, our midfield and defense controlled United. Well played by our boys and a 1-0 result on the road was huge. We are in the driver’s seat. Now lets close them out.

Yeah.... where all this people that talked nonsense about using Dhorasoo instead Seedorf????
Congratulations Milano, you guys deserved to win and you were by far the better team, the whole of Old Trafford applauded you off the pitch and I think Milan has won a lot of respect over here.
Our midfield got steam rolled last night and to be honest we didnt look like the home team. We have to many old men in our team who performs now and again, Paul scholes had numerous chances and fluffed them all, even a sitter, couldnt even make sure the shot was on target.
Roy Keane was non existent, and I have no idea of why we substituted Ronaldo for Ruud. ronaldo was our number one dangerman on the night and we substituted him. Rooney should have been subbed off, he did nothing but swearing at the referee. That fat bastard is doing himself no favours for the future, now more teams will test him and his temper.
Anyway FORZA MILANO :3band: :3band: :3band:

Styles,
Rooney is such an enigma. I watch United play as they appear on FSC over here and I must say that sometimes he looks all world and other times he just disappears. Of course, sometimes I think he is going to explode and take a swing at someone (quite the temper).
I thought Milan played exceptional in the midfield and really controlled the game. I believe that, and maybe it’s just me, we have a tendancy to play to the level of our competition. When we play a power like United, you see our best (minus Sheva – he is such a difference maker for us). Against a relegation threatened side in Seria A, you sometimes see a Milan that looks like it is just going through the motions. Frustrating at times, but it is good to see our boys come out and play like Champions when they need to.
I have to agree that taking off Ronaldo (Did you see him leave the pitch…he was disappointed and displeased to say the least) was a question for me. Twice he got space and both times he blew buy his marker. And in both those situations he put Milan in danger, especially with the nice ball to Fortune, who had some trouble with that first touch (looked like he just overextended on that first touch throwing him off balance, which caused Dida to try and change direction and he slipped). My fear was United in space and on those occasions you could see why. But other than those opportunities, and Scholes who was set up by a rice run into the box by Fortune, we really controlled the United attack. Very happy with the outcome.
By the way, what's the deal with TIm Howard? Is he worse than Carroll?
thats good sportsmanship styles... i wish i have something nice to say about man utd but i hate them so much :D ... maybe i could say ... well see u next year... :D

Carroll is a hoe, we've offered him a new contract and he has refused TWICE.
We don't need him anyway. I'd sign Sebastian Frey or Robert Green. Both young, reliable and talented goalkeepers.
Frey is likely the besk GK on the market right now. I would go for him if I was ManU. Your defenders did well (defensively anyway ;) )

Cafu and Nesta were excellent and the team held possession well. I was pleasantly surprised at the way the players held their own on a cold, soggy pitch. I nearly screamed when Did slipped and Fortune looked certain to score though.
I like Ian Darke's comment on Cafu: "Whatever he's eating, we'd like to know and have some."

Very nice words coming from a ManU fan. Thanks Styles, it takes something extra to be graceful in defeat.
As for ManU, even before the game last night, I was more worried about the return leg in Milano than the game at OT. Tactically, it is easier to control a side like ManU at their home ground than at home. In fact, if you remember we were discussing the outcome of the game at OT in the pre-game thread and I may have seemed a bit too confident but it was because I was sure that Milan would have taken away at least a draw away from the Theatre. If you read my posts from that old thread, yu will see why I expected them to do so.
Now, the game at the San Siro is a totally different matter and to tell you the truth I couldn't care less about that away goal Milan scored last night for one goal is next to nothing when playing a quick-passing team like ManU at home. I do hope that Milan will use a saturated midfield again otherwise we might have a much bigger problem neutralizing C Ronaldo, Giggs, and co.
As for Rooney, I have always disliked him to say the least. He is just a young player with talent but his importance for the team has often been blown out of proportion and his stardom satus is more the result of way too much attention from the British media rather than what he represents as a player. My guess for what his carrer will be is that he will always be regarded as the next saviour of English football until he is 25-26 and then he will be quickly kicked in the dust - the guy is talented, no discussion here, however he lacks the personality of a great player like Lineker, for example. Players like Rooney always remain prospects and never make it to the next level - they are always going-to-bes and never ares.

Timo Hildebrand is available on a free transfer at the end of the season and he would be a useful signing, doesnt Frey still want to move back to Inter?
No way should we go for Green either, he's made more gaffs than Caroll ! :D
Its a shame for Carroll because he has a lot of decent qualities but he lacks concentration, in games where he is kept busy he is a solid shotstopper but when he doesnt have a lot of shots to save he tends to make an error. IIRC Seedorfs shot was the first save he had had to make and he fluffed it, same with the Spurs error, he had nothing to do for 90 minutes and then dropped an easy catch a yard over the line
I was annoyed Ronaldo was taken off but i dont think Rooney should have been subbed instead, he had done about as well as could be expected for a lone striker given hardly any service and up against Nesta and Maldini  I'd have given it 10 mins more and then taken off Giggs with about 20 to go, switch to 4-4-2 with Fortune in front of Heinze to cover Cafu and keep it solid and focus attacks down Ronaldo's wing.

He got it right, though. Cafu gave a lesson to Giggs and Heinze and along with Gattuso virtually took them out of the game. The Brazilian master was all over the pitch and at 34 he was the oldest player on the pitch, apart from Paolo and Billi, that is. :1whis: :1old: :p283:

Lineker had no personaility, he's so bland he makes Michael Owen look like Marilyn Manson :D Maradona on the other hand was a psychopath who would probably have robbed old ladies if he hadnt made it as a footballer, yet he is probably the best player of all time ;)
Rooney is improving constantly, at Everton he averaged 3 yellow cards per goal at Utd its 3 goals per yellow  he didnt do a lot wrong yesterday and in the second leg will probably be more influential as Ruud will be the focal point instead.

Which is why maybe having Ruud out there will take that responsibility away from Rooney and maybe settle him down a bit. Ticking bomb out there...hell, even the commentators were saying early in the match that Milan will try and push some of his buttons to get him off his game. Not sure if we need to do anything as apparently the Referree is all that is needed to get him going. But you are right, not exactly a leader out there for United.
I don't know if it's a deserved win or not. All I can say is we took our chances well. It might be a game that is not so entertaining to watch, but it's definitely a good match. In the first half, Man U had better plays, while Milan were superior in the second half. I have to admit we were lucky not to concede an early goal. Using Cafu on the right is a much better choice than Stam in this game. C. Ronaldo was outplayed by Cafu at one time. Anyway, i am looking forward to another 1-0 victory to milan in the second leg.
However, I just have one complaint to Rui... Sometimes, I don't understand why Rui needs to hold on to the ball for so long. I really wish that he could pass the ball much faster instead of playing around with it. Anyway, I think he wasn't that bad in the last game.
I have a question: Is Kaka faster than C. Ronaldo when they run with the ball at full speed? I know Ronaldo is way faster than Pirlo, as you all recalled how he blew passed him in the first half.
Now, it's time to crush Inter.
I think Ronaldos got that extra little burst of speed for the first few steps, but for a longer run Kaka may overtake him.
About United's keeper situation, I was watching MUTV and I was shocked. They kept saying yes, Carroll needs to be replaced, but there are no good keapers out there. :eekani: Honeslty, even if they only watch the premier league there must be a decent keeper at a small side. One guy even said apart from Cech at Chelsea and Buffon theres no other really good goalies.
How can anyone so naive be given air time on a football channel :hammer:
Great game!!!
We were better, but ManUtd was also good, they had 2 good chances (Scholes and Fortun).
Kaka was 2x selfish on the end game, but it's only important that we won in that game.

THANK YOU CARROLL!!!!!!! :firedev: :firedev: :firedev:

I disagree. I think Ronaldo is faster. That first run he made in about the 3rd minute was just scary as he seemed to effortlessly run by two Milan players. Kaka is quick, but he doesn’t have that next gear that Ronaldo has. On the other hand, Kaka is more of a creative playmaker who looks for space but, more importantly, looks for the lay-off. That pass to Crespo that put him thru into the box was a wok of art… Ronaldo is improving in the passing department, especially with his crosses, but he’s not at that level yet.

Actually, when Pirlo was chasing Ronaldo, he was actually anticipating Ronaldo to make a pass instead of rushing down the flanks. This moment of split concentration is why Pirlo lose pace to Ronaldo. Ronaldo is a side-step lunatic :D whose tricks always get the better of his marker. Speed-wise compared to our midfielders still remains a question mark. :dcool:
I knew milan would win this game. Man Yoo are an inferior team, and our teamwork proved that last night.our midfiled was simply superb. Former Rastaman(Seedorf)was amazing, what about Nesta and IL capitane.Milan has learnt from last season, and Carlo has learnt from 1999. I have faith and belisf that we'll go on to win the second leg, and bring on the rest.

I can't help wondering why carroll would have refused manu's new contracts twice. I don't see a single chance that he can find a better club than manu. maybe he knows himself so well that he doesn't deserve it and he loves manu so much and so decides to quit for manu's good? interesting. :)

i think kaka might be faster with the ball... i think ronaldo might loko faster because EPL cameras are usually closer to the field so thus it makes him look faster, i just remembered that run kaka did vs reggina in the second half where he picked up the ball and ran like a horse only to see him pass intended for shevchenko being deflected for the goalkeeper, another game is during the derby, i felt hurt when they hit him while he was running at full speed, and what about his season winning assist vs roma last year, he blew past the roma defender on the wing and crossed for sheva to give us the scudetto. if only he can make better use of his chances he would easily be one of the worlds best 5 players, he can get irritating when his passes look so easy yet he looks like ambro while passing them, he can also get on my nerves when he shoots a shot that would usually go in if he was the kaka of last season but i think a run of 5 games would get him back on track he needs to be more consistent i think

Greetings from Las Montañas en bonita Costa Rica!!
I only saw the extended highlights, but I thought we played well, controlled the game, and took our chance when they made a mistake.
We were lucky to not give up 2 goals, but you need luck to win big matches....plus, Dida was at his intimidating best, and I am sure that impacted the mind set of the Man U players.
A well deserved win, and now I can relax until Sunday.....

I was watching this match in a bar surrounded by Man U fans.
Absoloutly superb result and the performance was very good.
In the first half it was fairly even with us dominating possession and controlling the game, but being threatened heavily a few times on the counter.
However, the second half was a much more controlled game on Milan's part, with Utd having very little in the way of attacking moves.
Before moving onto milan, I'll give credit to Man U's centre backs, Fortune and Ronaldo, who were all playing quite well in the match.
As for us....
Dida had a fairly quiet game despite a couple of scares and a few routine catches, but he did his job well.
Kaladze had a good game and was defensively astute even though Ronaldo did get behind a couple of times. Attacking wise he was a solid player, but never a massive influence.
Maldini was outstanding, never put a foot wrong.
Nesta was like Maldini, but had the odd time where he struggled a little and got a card.
Cafu was brilliant. I think Stam's minor injury turned out to be a blessing in disguise, as Cafu was a nightmare for Utd, although some of his crosses lacked precision.
Pirlo was brilliant to showing great composure and skill on the ball. Had the odd sloppy pass but overall played like he was at his best.
Gattuso was ringhio once more. Added much bite to the side and was brilliant at breaking up Utd's attack, leaving many saying "Keane who?" :D
Seedorf worked very hard for the side and tactically did very well. I think at times his ball control and passing let him down, but he was a plus for the side nontheless.
Rui was fairly quiet, but like Seedorf, he worked for the side. He didn't really add any spark to the side creatively though.
Kaka was very good too. Worked hard and often charged forward with the ball. However, his final ball or choice of pass at times failed him, but at the same time, he was also closely watched by Utd.
Crespo did his job. Missed a couple of chances but scored the winner. Didn't add to the build up, but playing as the target man, it wasn't his job to do so.
Ancelotti was spot on tactically, I really can't complain at all about him this match.
The side did well. Defensively we looked a little frail on the counter, but eventually the side became stronger and avoided the problem.
However, our attacking play could have been improved as the players sometimes tried long balls or messed up the final pass when they shouldn't have.
Otherwise no real complaints as such. Credit to Utd and their fans on their sportsmanship.
Final note, we leading at half time, lets finish the job in the second half!!!!
FORZA CRESPO!
FORZA MILAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That pass to Crespo that put him thru into the box was a wok of art… Ronaldo is improving in the passing department, especially with his crosses, but he’s not at that level yet.
hmmmm, i don't really think so. IMO kaka is faster if you want to compare running. ronaldo has fast legs but kaka got bigger strides. if just pure running, kaka would be faster. the inter game in which kaka got all 4 defenders yellow carded just goes to show how fast kaka is.
and you cannot compare Pirlo to C.Ronaldo. Pirlo is always playing at half speed, he doesn't even need to shift into first gear cause he is always looking for chances to pass the ball. don't you find pirlo always look like he just woke up? he got this lazy look that is so funny. :delol:

Ronaldo isnt that fast to be honest, im not sure if Kaka is much faster but i dont think either of them are really quick runners. I remember Giggs saying a few weeks ago that he still beats Ronaldo in sprint training and Giggs has slowed down quite a lot over the years :D
The real fast runners at Utd are Bellion and Silvestre, i dont think Milan have anyone to rival those pair for pace but i dont think it matters either.....
Serginio could probably give them a run for their money
was talking to a man u supporter earlier who went over to the match and he said the milan fans outsung the utd fans

maybe Silvestre, but Bellion is the fastest player i've ever seen when in full flight. Unfortunately he doesnt have a footballers brain though, and unless he develops one soon he is going to have to get used to the bench or drop to a lower team.

I think they were disproportionately loud and deserve respect for that, its often the case on European nights at Old Trafford that away fans tend to make a lot of noise (particularly when their team is playing well  ) likewise it really wouldn't surprise me to see Utds away support do the same to Milan.....
got a programme last night from the man u milan game, my cousins were over in manchester at the weekend for portsmouth game and got it for me. i must say united have pretty impressive matchday programmes its over 60 pages long and loads on milan
Lets just see what happens in the San Siro! I am flying over for the game and expect United to get a result and go through to the next round. Oh and by the way, there are 10,000 of us making the trip over so I do not expect to see much of your famous Ultras who will probably be hiding in the ground singing songs or perhaps they will be home with their mama making banners to wave. As per usual in Italy you will throw stuff at us from the safety of your own end and use the police as your protection. Also, if your Ultras are such great fans and follow Milan everywhere and anywhere how do you explain the very poor turnout at Old Trafford (the worst in CL history for travelling Italian fans). I eagerly await your excuses.

Reasons:
1. They've heard all about those prawn sandwiches, and Italians are very serious about their food.
2. They didn't need to go in numbers because they knew they would be making a lot more noise at Old Trafford than the Man U fans. Of course, they had more to sing about.
3. Milan fans are a bit spoiled. They prefer matches against the really big teams.
4. Seriously, would you want to go to England if you lived in il bel paese?
5. Turttles (sic) don't hang around with rabbits. :D
Milan average attendance - around 63,000
Milan V Man Utd - Sold Out
I rest my case, that is unless you always sell your ground out when facing small teams.
I am fully aware that Italians take their food seriously, it would explain the levels of obesity in your country!

Well, I doubt that all those 10K ManU fans would make it to the San Siro stands for ManU got 6K tickets and the game has been sold out for quite some time now.
As for why Milan didn't have that many fans travelling to OT, well, would you go to the other end of Europe to watch a game whose result you already know?
Plus, from what I read on some ManU forum and www.tsn.ca, manU fans were outsung - and this is according to ManU fans - by the Milan fans, who I guess had far better reasons to make their voices be heard at OT. Don't you think so?
Word of advice, go sightseeing, man, book a trip to Venezia, Florenzia, or Parma - there is no reason to waste money on a soccer game whose outcome is already known. :devf: :diablo: :firedev:
On a more serious note - new class room, same teacher, same students - there is only one Devil and he is striped in red and black. :grinser:

Nobody called ManU a small team. Ruffian just said that there are bigger and better teams than ManU which will attract more Milan fans in the away games.
San Siro is also sold out for the games vs Roma, Lazio, and Inter but the games vs Juve are the ones that decide the scudetto holder.
Plus, it is not every day you see the so called "best team in the world," by the English press that is, being taught a lesson in football tactics and ball possession skills, hence the sold-out San Siro. :rocky: :devs:

Sorry, the obesity rates are much higher in the UK than in Italy. Taking food "seriously" doesn't mean p i gging out, as you obviously thought, but insisting on quality ingredients and preparation.
Thought of another reason:
6. Milan fans got a little confused and didn't realize they were the away fans. Milan certainly looked like the home team at Old Trafford. ;)
All banter aside, I'm looking forward to the match. I'm hoping Dida and the defense will be a little more settled, so we can really show Premiership supporters what a "boring, defensive-minded Serie A team" can do.
And maybe Inzaghi will get a look-in too, just to show what a true international-class striker he is. This isn't a knock at RVN, who's a great center-forward, but at Ferguson, who made nasty comments about Inzaghi's talent (or lack thereof) before Euro 2000. Of course, Pippo was with Juve back then. :D
BTW, who will be your keeper for this game?

Actually we recieved 8 thousand tickets zlatanov (there will be more travelling without tickets)
It is a well known fact that United fans at home are never very vocal so you will not hear any argument from me on that score.
Oh and by the way its not soccer it is football!
Another comment that was way off the mark was the one suggesting that the UK press think of us as the "best team in the world" this is a load of rubbish as the institution that is MUFC is hated by the press and general population in the UK.
Final word for ruffian, you are right, British food is crap!
Our goalkeeper will have to be Tim Howard, if Carroll is selected then it is all over. Howard is hardly a Buffon and I am not majorly confident in his ability on cross balls and set pieces but he is better than Roy "the flapper" Carroll!
I still think you will be crying in your pizzas by the end of the night on March the 8th so save your boasts until then eh. Just remember what we did to Juventus and Inter. Its 1-0 with 90 minutes left to play

Ok, my bad - 8k, as if it is gonna make any difference vs 70K Milan fans.
Given where you come from, I bet "soccer" does ring a bell or two but you are right, I guess I have picked up a couple of words from US buddies. Oh, and I am Bulgarian btw, so no need to give me a vocabulary lesson in foorball terms - I grew up with the game.
As for the "this is a load of rubbish" part - well, you got that one right :rone:
As for the good memos ManU has from playing other catenaccio masters like Juve and Inter, I have said it before but for you I will makean exception and will repeat it again - ManU's biggest mistake was to think that Milan, as an italian team, will just sit back on their asses and defend like their less famous compatriots from Juve and Inter had done before. Once the game at OT started, manU players were up for a big surprise from which they never really recovered. On the other hand, Milan's biggest weapon is their ability to adjust to the environment once the game has started for tactical planning often has nothing to do with the reality of the game.
It won't be an easy game and only an idiot will tell you so but ManU just doesn't possess the tactical ability, patience, and mental strength to oust Milan - a not so typical Italian team. ManU has a very strong team, IMO the best in English football right now, but Milan are just too much of a team for them to handle.
Just like Carlo Ancelotti said to the journalists before the OT game: "I know who will win but I won't tell you ..."
Silvio Berlusconi: "Let the better team win i.e. Milan." :3band:
I still think you will be crying in your pizzas by the end of the night on March the 8th so save your boasts until then eh. Just remember what we did to Juventus and Inter. Its 1-0 with 90 minutes left to play
Not boasting, just a little trash talk to liven up the atmosphere. :D We're up at half-time, and the final half will be played at the San Siro. One thing you should know, Milan are not Juventus or Inter.

The excitement is building :horny:
I stupidly predicted that Man Utd would win comfortably in each leg! Thankfully I was wrong, for the 1st leg anyway.
I would be no less worried about Man U threat. i think Milan are a better team away from home.
It will be a tougher game than last time i would think.
I hear Gattuso would be attracted to a move to Man U!?
