View Full Version : Vincent Kompany
I don't know if he's been mentioned before (if he has I apologise) but the link below says that Belgian newspapers are suggesting we may be interested in him. I think he would be a great signing as he's a big, fast, strong central defender who can read the game very well, and if we signed him this summer he could work with Sandro/Paolo/Stam for a couple of years to improve his game. Plus it would stop juve getting him and turning him into a very good player. What do people think?

never seen him play... but i cant imagine him being as good as people make him out to be, plus i had doubts over him after egypt crushed belgium 4-0 ... where was he there?
Just because Belgium lose one game doesn't make him a bad player. Brazil and Italy have lost to some pretty dreadful teams in the past, and it doesn't mean that Sandro or Kaka are rubbish. The boy will be quality, and I only hope we get him before juve or inter can!
I don't think he'll be ready for a move to a big club for a while. Realistically, how good is he likely to be? Most top class defenders don't start producing consistent form at a level good enough for a top serie A club until they are at least 24-25 (how many great defenders are there in the league under that age?) I think if we signed him now, he'd languish in our reserves failing to make a real impact while we all howled for a new defender we could actually play.
The only way I see the risk of buying him pay off would be if he was the next beckenbauer or baresi. highly unlikely.
He's already considered just about the most promising young defender in Europe, so assuming that we looked after him properly then he should succeed at the highest level. And my point is that if we signed him in the summer, he would have chance to learn from some of the best defenders in the world in Sandro, Paolo and Stam. Playing with those players would definatly improve him, and we could work him slowly into the team, maybe giving him some of the easier games, rather than putting him under pressure against teams like juve and inter.
The other big advantage would be stopping those teams getting hold of him and maybe turning him into a great player.
I agree with Stefan here. He is considered as a great promise, however I never saw him playing. I think that at his age he will not be able to handle pressue, but he can be a good investment. Another problem I think will be his purchase price, Anderlecht will want some millions for him
I'm a keen admirer of the fellow and I've mentioned him several times here. some people think they know a lot about him but that just pure crap and gossip. like that he's inter bound or that he price tag is over chivu's...
the egypt-belgium match the entire team failed although belgium scored the first goal and it was cancelled out for ofside (witch it wasn't)
the Belgium trainer tried a completly new scheme with Kompany in the midfield coz he also has a tremeandous technique -(yeasterdag he made a scissor move like I only see ronaldo do just before he crossed the ball for Jestrovic that headed the ball in the back of the net.- but he went down with the entire team. egypt was better so they deserved to win...
is he ready for milan? I don't know, he has a great mentality, he is a down to earth boy yet he has a certain natural flair and nerve and he 's smart and a quick learner.
keep your eye on him and if you don't well man u, inter, milan, barca, and lately juve do
(last rumour from te gazetto dello sport is that juve wanted to give €6 mil and zalayeta or tudor but anderlecht officials clearly denied that they even met with juve)
anderlecht rejected an offer last year from man u that was about €10 mil, so anderlecht will probably want a bit more (14-15 tops) ... or a perhaps a better agreement to work together.
stefan i did not mean it that way but it was just an example
and besides, what u say of him learning from our defenders i think is not right, wasnt it the reason we got collocini, the ebst way this guy could develop is not to sit on the bench but to play besides one of these guys and i dont think carlo would prefer him over any of our big 3 men

would he still have a down to earth attitude after a 14m+ move to one of europes biggest clubs?
i think if he is ever to play for milan it would via another team first (he's unlikely to spend 4 more seasons at anderlecht, which is how long i think he needs before he's serie A quality.) this wouldn't be that bad though, I mean how much more expensive can get?

I can't be sure of course, so I don't really know to be honest. all I can tell you guys is that on the golden booth award (the award for the best player in the belgian leauge) witch everybody allready knew for weeks he would be the winner. he brought his 15 year old brother instead of a model ore a nice looking babe ( in the past more pictures were taken from for example phaedra Hoste and Hedvika koller then from the boyfriend/husband and golden booth winners Paul Okon and Jan Koller). this while he is quiete popular with girls but he doesn't tend to be very interested in them since he is very occupied with school (he follows quite a hard course in a Flemish highschool in while his mother tongue is French) and with soccer.
it is indeed unlikely he will play in anderlecht for 4 more seasons but how much more expensive can he get? well he also said he didn't want to leave for a club that doesn't play to win their native championship. so if for example Man u buy's him and he plays so well that milan wants to buy him he'dd cost more than 14 mil I suspect...not to mention if juve or inter get him...
I'm not shouting that milan HAS to buy him (in fact I've never done this for any player) but nevertheless he is still an interesting player that milan should monitor closely and his price? I'm sure milan and anderlecht can work it out to be a bit less if milan promises to work together with anderlecht in the future (last year there were some negotiations between both milan giants and anderlecht) unless a bidding war starts...
if we are going to pay this much......... i would rather go for CHIVU.
Chivu and Nesta partnership would rock......
I'm affraid chivu isn't for sale or am I wrong? how much would he cost?
I don't think chivu will leave Rome yet...
he just said he is thinking of leaving
He is?
do you have a credible source?
cool...
but we'll see I guess
yeah u can find it on planetfootball.com
Maybe we should look to sign him, or another promising defender, and then send them out on loan to get some experience, rather than just sitting on the bench. I'm sure there would be lots of good clubs who would be interested in such a good young player for a season long loan.
If we want an instant replacement, we could do worse than Jorge Andrade, although he wouldn't come cheap!!!
Another vague link with us, though it looks like it's going to be a bit of a battle for his signature....

Yes we must try that system! I think he will stay in Anderlecht! :v46:

Yes he should get him and put Nesta on the right back , then we'll be sure to waste the two best central defenders in the world as right back and left back. :5ok:

I live in Belgium and i can tell that Belgium didn't have such a talented player for years! He is down to earth as Koeke said before and I'm sure he will also be like that if he goes to a European topteam. Cause, this year he won some football trophees here in Belgium that makes him the best player of the Belgian competition. Even then he is down to earth.
Of course he still has to learn a lot. When he makes a defensive mistake at Anderlecht, everybody forgives him immediately. People say: 'he is still young'. If he would make such mistakes in a European topteam, everybody will say: 'what kind of player is that, he is not good at all'. So, maybe for him it's better to stay 1 more year at Anderlecht to have some more experience. Or maybe Milan has to buy him already and let him play in a smaller Serie A team the first season.
can we think of getting samuel from real madrid ,
i don;t want to see another great players to go to juventus
Meerseman (the belgian head of milan lab) said that milan won't buy Kompany just yet. Milan management belives he isn't experienced enough but he also said that they were and will be watching him...
If Kompany is such a great talent, indeed, then it would be very necessary to sign him. Within the next three years we have to replace three central defenders. Now, there's still the time to bring Kompany experience, for example in games, that are'nt important like a game against Inter oder Juventus.

But will Kompany be Milan player in future?

Everyone wants him and he's played many times in the Champions League already.

Milan haven' t secured his services for the future if that is what your asking...
Right now anything is possible but the most likely is that he will play for anderlecht for one more year.
if he leaves this year it will probably be for barcelona, Rijkaard and Cruijff have talked with him several times ,(in those friendly games between best players of each league, Sheva's and Ronaldo's friends or something), where they expressed their symphatie (at least that's what they declared) coz those weren't official transfertalks
