View Full Version : Roma .v. juve
Half Time
Roma 1 juve 2
The atmosphere seems really nasty! Capello, Zebina and Emerson getting a lot of verbal abuse from the home fans.
juve went 1-0 up after 15 minutes through an offside Cannavaro goal from a freekick. To be fair to the referee and linesman, it was a very difficult decision to make, but the replays show it was clearly offside.
Roma were very quiet after that, but scored when Totti put Cassano through who slid it under Buffon.
Then a minute later juve were given a disgraceful penalty. I think it was Zalayeta who fell over like he'd been shot, with no contact from the Roma defender. Plus the challenge was clearly outside the box, but referee Racalbuto pointed to the spot! The Roma players were incensed and lucky not to have someone sent off! The referee spoke to his linesman, but didn't change his decision, and Del Piero blasted it into the top corner.
Roma will need to play better in the second half, but if the referee carries on like this juve will probably get another 3 penalties and Roma will be lucky to have 11 men on the pitch!
i wonder how much money these refs get!!!

As I watched the Roma-Juve game I could believe the lack of discipline Del Neri had on his players..they were all over the place and spending too much time complaining rather than playing...if they did actually play and swallow their hatred for Capello, Zebina and Emerson they could have actually won this match.
That said, the PK awarded was sheer BULLSH*T .. a classic example of the why Juve is either LOVED or HATED. Dellas never moved...there was no foul and even if there some sort of foul existed it was outside the box....
This is the worse call of the year..by far. Cannot believe how a REF can make a call like that in game of this calibre and on a foul like that.
Roma played very dirty but players like Zebina only understand that type of language...
FORZA ROMA....give us our lead atop Serie A as we deserve!!!!!!!
(re-posted)
new development: Papers claim Juve's first goal was also off-side....
shocking.
we have been very lucky of late but at least we've made our own luck.
juve just buy theirs, drugs, dodgey decisions. I wonder if there's any mirrors at all in the delli alpi because I don't know how they can look at themselves.

71 fouls in the match????
thats a disgrace
Juve players are overrated and overpaid! I can't see how Juve fans can actually be proud of their wins.
Not just that, they should be stripped of their titles because of the drugging scandal in the 90's. that being said, i hope they DON'T get stripped of their titles because if they do, then Inter would win one scudetto haha. we can't have that happening now can we?
well, when all is said and done, i don't care how juve win these games - milan play better of the two and the better team will win the title ;) that is milan ;)
honestly, was Cannavaro's goal offside?

yes, it was from an off-side position but it was a difficult call to make - even the Roma players didn't protest for they thought Canavaro's goal was a regular one.
As for the penalty, now that's a dif story - all the blame for it goes to Racalbuto and his assistant.
Plus there was the penalty that Montella wasn't given in the 2nd half. He pushed the ball past Thuram, who stuck out a leg. I think Montella had lost control of the ball and was probably looking for a penalty, but there was definatly contact from Thuram (who didn't get anywhere near the ball) and this was certainly as much of a penalty as the one that juve got given.
I noticed Thuram was laughing at Montella as well. He was probably thinking something along the lines of "A penalty given against us? You must be joking!"

WOW an ex juve fan!! :devs: You where wrong but something opened your mind and you moved to the right direction :grinser: GOOD CHOICE DEAR.
BTW juve win only in italy cause they are helped, this story goes from the 1920's and continues till today.
Juve has 27 leagues but ONLY 2 championsd cups, there must be a reason for this. :irritate:

the only way inter can win a scudetto is by
1) dreaming about it
2) going back in time.

Dellas: Ref made sure Juve won Sunday 6 March, 2005
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Traianos Dellas has spiced up the controversy surrounding Juve’s victory by claiming the referee’s 'mission' was to favour the visitors.
“The referee had to help out Juventus. That was his mission,” slammed the Roma defender. “Milan had already won earlier in the day, so the Turin team also needed a victory to stay top.”
It was clear that the Saturday evening clash at the Stadio Olimpico would cause controversy, but with both of Juve’s goals stirring up debate the 2-1 result is set to hit the headlines for some time.
Dellas was at the centre of the most contested incident, as he tripped Marcelo Zalayeta for the winning penalty. Replays clearly showed the foul took place outside the area, but Alessandro Del Piero converted to give Juve the three points.
“It was all too clear that Referee Salvatore Racalbuto was favouring Juventus,” added the Euro 2004 winner. “The penalty was definitely outside the area, and Zalayeta also admitted as much to me afterwards.”
The Greek defender saved his most damaging blast to the ‘powers that be’ which run the Italian game, suggesting that there was a conspiracy against Roma.
“Seeing as Milan had won at the 94th minute against Atalanta, it was obvious that Juventus also had to get the three points and it was the referee’s mission to ensure that happened."
"If the Scudetto has already been assigned in advance, I’d appreciate it if they told us so we wouldn’t waste our energy trying to win games.”
The rest of the team was not quite so vicious in its reaction, although on the field Vincenzo Montella and Antonio Cassano were repeatedly restrained from arguing with the officials.
“Both of Juve’s goals should have been disallowed,” noted Olivier Dacourt. “They are such a strong team that they really don’t need these favours.”
Coach Gigi Del Neri insisted he would not talk about the refereeing errors, but did make an intriguing comment. “The images are clear for all to see. In my view, we won 1-0.”
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I think Dellas is probably echoing the sentiments of a lot of Milan fans, and fans across Italy as well. But I'm not sure its a wise move for him to come out and make these statements. In Scotland, Hearts have made similar allegations against referee Hugh Dallas after their game against rangers last week. They had a very dodgy penalty given against them in injury time and want the SFA (Scottish Football Association) to review the incident. Now the referee and linesman are thinking of taking Hearts to court for 'defamation of character' or something like that.
Making allegations like that is pretty serious for a professional footballer!

Juve has 27 leagues but ONLY 2 championsd cups, there must be a reason for this. :irritate:
The reason is that Juve don't receive any "help" in Europe. Milan, on the other hand, don't rely on this "help", in Italy or in the CL.
I watched the game as well.....just a disgrace!I couldn`t believe that even after consulting with other referee, they were given that penalty! And the foul...(if any )was definitely outside the box...crazy just crazy....
Nonetheless, if we win lo scudetto this year, it`ll be even bigger a victory over them considering all the `help` they get.
We get help from God with all those last gap goals
:D

Ref: "i am damn sure that's not a penalty, but this is juve"
Linesman: "damn straight. let's give a penalty"
ref: "heck yah! that'll show Milan!"
Linesman: "i can't wait to see that new fiat in my garage tomorrow"
ref: "me neither!"

All fun and joke aside (as we like to say in Jamaica), the "assistance" that Juve gets from the Refs in Italy can no longer be seen as an urban myth, especially after this match.
I saw all of it (ESPN Intl), and was just totally pissed, though I dont kno why, as I sort of expected this result, with the small exception that I didnt think the Ref would have been so blatant in his preferential decision making.
Italy seems to be (from an external perspective, no disrespect intended) a hot bed of conspiracy theories, however, we have another saying in Jamaica that is applicable here:
"What nuh go soh, nearly goh soh" or what doesnt go that way, nearly goes that way....or something like that...in other words, there is usually a kernel of truth among the one pound of pop corn that comprises a rumor.
Italian football must take a serious look at itself, and with Collina set to retire, :v46: will there be any incorruptable referee´s left in the Serie A?

This is a review of the 27th round in Serie A made by www.goal.com. Part of it was actually "borrowed" from www.tgcom.it/sport but ...
"The encounter at the Olimpico has probably been one of the roughest games of the past years with a staggering number of fouls committed (72) which led to the first half only having 16 minutes of effective playing time! The referee was unable to keep things under control and one wonders why Racalbuto was chosen for such an important game when he does not even have an international level.
In future, the Roma-Juventus game will be shown to aspiring referees as an example of how a match should NOT be directed as the game included the whole baggage: unfairly disallowed goals, offsides not seen, invented penalties awarded and so on. The most advertised mistakes were the ones against Roma, even though the Bianconeri had their fair share of bad calls against them too which probably balanced each other out at the end of the game.
Still, the fact remains that for such important games in Italy, only one referee can guarantee an impartial and almost perfect direction: Collina. Unfortunately, the luck of the draw has only assigned one ‘big match’ this season to the world’s most renowned referee and that’s quite a big scandal, especially when you consider that this will be his last season before he retires and takes a higher seat.
Obviously Racalbuto did not mean to harm either team nor should he be accused of being corrupt or bribed (as the culture of suspicion usually makes us believe), but it’s also quite clear that he is not capable of directing such a big encounter. This, unfortunately, is the situation for most Italian referees bar Collina and a couple more. So once the most famous man in black retires, the situation in Serie A might deteriorate even further, if that is possible.
Back to the technical aspect of the Olimpico game. No doubt that the Bianconeri played better and deserved the win as Roma seemed out of ideas and uninspired for most of the match. For the Giallorossi this is bad news as their hunt for the last Champions League spot seems to have taken a blow as they stand 8 points behind fourth-placed Inter. For Juventus this win represented not only 3 points, but a big morale boost for their title (and Champions League) hopes as winning in Rome is usually a very difficult thing to do.
Many (anti-Milan) will insist on saying that the Rossoneri are riding their luck as they have been extremely fortunate in winning their last Serie A and Champions League matches. Scoring in the 94th minute has become synonymous with Ancelotti and his squad and the former Parma and Juve coach is starting to joke about this fact. However one must note that this is not just luck. Sending 6 players forward in the last minutes of the game is a sign that the team firmly believes in its potential and that it can achieve the result. Few teams can risk this and it proves that Milan have a strong character, one that can effectively win the Scudetto.
An interesting statistic shows that if the matches had ended in the 80th minute, Milan would have 11 points less while Juventus would actually have 4 more points as the Bianconeri would command the standings with 64 points while the Rossoneri would only have 49 points! Proves that every minute and second counts.

Good point, but thankfully, most games go 90+, even if Juve is playing...that at least the match officials cant be too blatant about.
At the end of the day, if we win the Scudetto, no-one in 10 years time will remember what minute the goals were scored in. It takes a good team to play right upto the final whistle, and the fact that we're scoring late in games is probably because sides who just want to defend against us to get a draw, finally get tired and playmakers like Kaka and Pirlo get an opportunity to open up the defence.

I disagree with you.......
I would say in less than 10 days after season end :tong:

agreed. When you apply enough pressure, the nut will crack. But i wonder why milan don't apply concerted pressure like that at the end of the first half when the players are fairly tired too. :d55:
