Extremelly tricky match. Not only it is a tricky rival, but also the fact that we come from playing a hard fought and tiring CL match, and the fact that we have another one just days after this match are all factors that make of this match a very difficult one. In the meantime Juve play Bologna at home....

I don't think we will see much rotation...other than replacing those suspended of course (San Paolo, Kaladze and Ambrosini), so we should see a defense composed by Cafu, Nesta, Stam and Sergio or Pancaro, a midfield with Rui, Rino, Kaka and Seedorf, and an attacking like with Sheva and either JDT or Crespo (I think Crespo will get the nod).

Hard match, but we are Milan, so I certainly hope for 3 extremelly precious points :dcool:

This is the biggest serie a game for us this season. If manage to beat fiorentina on saturday then we have a chance to go 3 points clear after 08.05! this should be lineup for the game. Dida, cafu, nesta, sta, serginho, pirlo ( if he is ready and feeling well) or rui , seedorf, rino, kaka, sheva, crespo ( aldough im really dissapointed with his performance against psv ). Maybe pippo can get in later on. We are really tired but we just have to do it! Havent won in there for 10 years....its about time! If we do that I believe we almost have the scudetto.

Very difficult match.

Fiorentina wants some points, because they wanna remain in the serie A. I see a very close match. I hope for the Milan to be successful.

As expressed in the PSV game thread, I think as important a match as this is, we will need to rest some of our key players for the return leg in Holland.

We may have crushed the Viola in Milan, but at home they are a very tricky proposition. Also, they will be gunning for revenge of the 6 goal thrashing they received in the San Siro...not a happy prospect indeed...and though I am not suggesting that dirty play may ensue, I am not ruling it out...and it would be a severe blow for us if any of our key attackers picked up a knock ruling him out of the 2nd leg of the semi final, or against the Zebra´s at home the following Serie A match day.

Because I know Carlo comes to this site to frequently view our suggestions for his starting line up, :rollani: I will propose the following players and formation:

Christmas Tree:

Dida in goal

Pancaro---Nesta---Stam---Kaladze (Stam to be replaced by Maldini in the 2nd half)

Ambro----Brocci----Serghino (Ambro or Serghino to be replaced by Gattuso or Dhorasso in the 2nd half)

---Rui---Kaka---(Kaka to be replaced by Dhorasso in the 2nd half)

---Crespo---(Cresp to be relieved by JDT in the 2nd half)

The replacements as indicated would only be used if we are leading by a 2 goal margin, and the players to be subbed are obviously tiring...

Ok Carlo, now run with this....:dontkn:...if you want to of course........

I wont elaborate on the obvious that we only have 3 changes, and that Dhorasso cannot play in two positions at once :D

warro bantan ur lineup IMO totally underestimates the opposition because this match is just as important as the next psv match and besides kaladze, ambro are both suspended from the match

i think we should play this formation:

--------------------------------------dida----------------------------------------

---------cafu------------nesta-----------------stam--------------serginho--------

---------------------------------pirlo---------------------------------------------
---------------gattuso------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------seedorf---------------------
------------------------------kaka-----------------------------------------------

---------------shevchenko--------------------JDT--------------------------------

hmmm

23/4 Milan 3-0 Parma
26/4 Milan 2-0 PSV
30/4 Fio-Milan
4/5 PSV-Milan
8/5 Milan- Juve

i mean, OH MY GOD, just take a look at our schedule! for every single one of those matches, we will need our full starting lineup! I think, IMO, unfortunately, we will have to sacrifice one competition, because if we conitnue to field the best lineup for both competitions, we will end up with winning nothing.. I just hope Carlo can find the excellent mix of substitutes and starters to play in Serie A instead of playing a full starter team or a full substitute team..

this next 2 weeks will be extremely tough, i just hope none of our players get injured, or hell, not get frustrated in the PSV game to get sent off to miss the final :(!

Damn, i'll repeat again, these 2 weeks are gonna be really really hard..

IMO, this is what i would do for fiorentina game:
Cafu shouldn't play at all, ofcourse he is extremely good, but he might get tired, we will certainly need him for the PSV clash.. it could be good to use him in the fiorentina game for the last 15 minutes if we arent winning by then..
Stam should start, Nesta should start as well to get his legs running for the PSV clash. Maldini, i dont know, maybe its better for him to play.
Dhorasoo must must must be given a shot this time.. he is a really good player, we need to get him fit for the final run to the season.. we really need a good substitute, and he really is probably the best substitute we have after Rui.. he will be crucial.. I hope he plays instead of Seedorf on the left..
Pirlo must play, he isnt match fit yet, he needs more minutes in his legs to find his top form..
Gattuso doesnt get tired, thats a + for us, but i certainly wouldnt mind resting him, Dhorasoo IMO is more useful than he is.. Dhorasoo can be defensive, but is also very skillful and a play-maker.. he can start Dhorasoo in Gattuso's place, and instead have Serginho in Seedorf's place..
Kaka needs to play, as he said last week, he is now in a new training program that will make him find the form that he was in last year..and just look how he performed vs. PSV, it was a huge improvement compared to the rest of the games he played this season.. i think Kaka should play, but i really think Rui Costa will be far more useful than he will.. Maybe they should both play.. the Christmas tree formation might be used today, if we play possesion football, we can save energy more..
Tomasson should play as he also is finding his top form, and has scored in the last 2 games.. I also think Pippo should come on late in the game.
Crespo, i dont know..
Sheva.. he should come on late as a sub only if we are losing, if not, keep him ready for the PSV clash..

We also need to watch out for injuries.. damn, we also havent won in Florence in 10 years!.. but there's nothing to worry about, as this Milan side has broken all the records!

EDIT:: I just rememberd, Ambro, Maldini, and Kaladze are suspended.. maybe Pancaro will be given the green-light for the left-back position today..

hitman i think ur worrying too much... u can just replace the whole squad just like that... but ur right we need to be very effiicient, having dhorasso back would be really great but i think we should go for this formation vs fiorentina... the psv clash is easier i think since we should look to not concede any goals on the contrary to the fiorentina match.

vs fiorentina:

--------------------------------------dida----------------------------------------

-----cafu-------------nesta---------------------stam-------------serginho--------

-------------------------------------pirlo-----------------------------------------
----------------ambrosini---------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------seedorf----------------
-----------------------------------kaka-------------------------------------------

-----------------------shevchenko------------JDT---------------------------------

where dhorasso should get some playing time as well as crespo and costacurta hopefully

vs psv (we should look to concede no goals and play the counter attack which we perfected this season even without sheva):

---------------------------------------dida---------------------------------------

--------costacurta-----------nesta--------------maldini--------------kaladze------

--------------------------------pirlo/ambrosini------------------------------------
---------gattuso-----------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------seedorf/dhorasso-----------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------serginho-----------
-----------------------------kaka------------------------------------------------

--------------------------------------shevchenko--------------------------------

with crespo coming on either to rest sheva or to partner him if we need to score goals, cafu to come on if park is exhausting costacurta or if we need some fast attacks, stam to help back in defence if theyre pressuring is very threatening

I'd bet you that both your formations will not happen :)

Ambro is suspended for Fiorentina game, and Cafu would be rested for the Fiorentina game. Carlo always rests Cafu for some reason.

If we play with Costacurta instead of Cafu in the PSV semi-final we are dead. We will simply be inviting them to pressure us all game. We need cafu to give us speed for counter-attackers. Also we need him to shut down their wings more. I really dont think PSV will be pressuring us more than the San Siro game. Carlotti is smart.

and man, are you serious? Kaladze again? Did you see how bad he played last game? AND WITHOUT STAM? Are you serious? and Serginho instead of Rui? Dude.........

Hey my dear buddy
If you keep saying that one player played bad just for sick for one game and dropped him for the rest of the year, then no one is going to make it through the year.

I realize that you are a die-hard Milan fan. So do I, and the rest of the people here (I assume). Does a player's poor performance solely his fault, or because of some other factors? It would be great if we can take other things into consideration except for looking at paper's rating.

On the other hand, don't you realize that Cafu's running on the right has caused us trouble at the back because he is always running? NOt that this is not a good thing, but there are a few chances PSV got simply because Cafu is busy on the right and forgot his defensive role. I'm not criticizing him here, but these are the things you may have not noticed. Another Cafu's fault, (if you want to know) is the scare we got around 10minutes when the ball SEEMED to slip through Stam but REALLY it's because Cafu who failed to create the offside trap...

A tricky match indeed. I remember Fiorentina gave Juve a ride some weeks ago, and with players like Bojinov, Jorgensen and Miccoli they definately have the players to make life hard for us.

I expect following lineup:

Dida - Costacurta, Nesta, Stam, Serginho - Gattuso, Rui Costa, Seedorf - Kaka - Shevchenko, Tomasson.

I think that Pirlo, Crespo and Cafu will be given a rest. Pirlo was clearly not match fit against PSV. This is an all important match, we will have to be equal with points when we have Juventus next week...

Hey why are u so critical of Kala?? Every player has their bad days and u shouldnt play him down just bcoz of 1 game. As a true milan fan, i hope you do realise that most (if not all) forumnites here were made to eat their words everytime they criticise a player's performance just based on 1 match. So be4 u join them, please think of how Kala had contributed to Milan and it is def not a 1 off thing. :w155:

It is better to play on a sat so that Milan will have a day extra to recuperate for the Champions league. It doesnt matter whether Juve knows Milan's result or not because ultimately, if our result by any way can have any effect on Juve, it will def be Milan's advantage as either they will be complacent and lose or will work harder on their zebra a s s to get a result (tires them out).

The match against Fiorentina is as all other games important - If I could chose I would sell this match for a draw and than take 3 points against Juve :)

We can not risk to rest several players as we than for sure will lose against a angry Viola team - but we must remember there is a reason that Fiorentina is placed bad in the table. So in fact we are huge favorites as Fiorentina is not playing as a team and has a very very shaky Goali

It`s going to be close - but as Juve managed somehow to win 1-0 against Lazio I also believe Milan will make the 1 strike. But we have to field JDT - when he start scoring he rarely stop, so we have to use this momentum where he is somehow on fire.

hi all,

this is my first post in this forum. hope it won't be the last one. great work, btw.

Nesta is not the only one who is one yellow card away from suspension. Rui Costa and clarence also have a tally of 2 yellow cards and should they get another one vs fiorentina they'll miss the juve decider. Re next sat game, ambro, kala and paolo are all suspended - 3 yellow cards.

may i remind you that last time milan won away to fiorentina was flippin 10 years ago! and it was the last game of the season, so it didn't count much for both teams (scorers that day, melli, batigol, simone). prior to date, van Basten and co had managed to trounce the viola 7-3!! boy, do i remember that game!

conclusion: i say the game against fiorentina is more difficult than that against juve because milan never miss out in clashes vs big teams while suffer a lot smaller teams, especially those from Tuscany (read Livorno and Siena)

do not start nesta. that will be a big mistake. why risk it. we beated psv without him. Rest him this game. i really think we should rest some playes. it will be a tough week and we need to be in good shape. if we loose or draw it will be not the end of the world but if when we go up against juve and psv are tired it will be the end of the world.

The question is more like what is going on with your friend? :guw:
Nesta is just fine, his problem is that he already has 4 yellow cards and will get suspended if he gets another one to make it 5.
Also I am afraid we have to start Nesta for Maldini is suspended for this game and I am not so sure that Billy would be a solution alongside Stam. Kaladze also is suspended so we willhave to field Serginho or most probably Pancaro on the left so our defence will be missing way too many "regular components" and may become rather imbalanced/slow if we leave Nesta out. Hopefully he won't get a booking but given his style it would be a small miracle.
Oh, and Ibrahimovich WILL DEFINITELY MISS the big game on May 8th for the Disciplinary Committee has just REFUSED to reduce his ban. :nana:

the psv and juve games are more importan then this one.
Unfortunately that is not quite true - all games are worth 3 points. Of course one could argue that a win vs Juve is worth not 3 but 6 points for it is a direct contest but should we lose to Fiorentina then even a win vs Juve will get us back only as far as square one. Off course this assumes that Juve don't make mistakes on their own but I am sure that everyone here is aware that if Juve can't win the 3 points by themselves, the refs will just give it to them. In that matter, I would be very surprised if Collina is appointed to referee a Juve game until the end of the season for he is the last one who would give them the usual lifelines.
We can't afford any mistakes in any of the remaining games both in Serie A and CL. I am sure that even without Nesta we could pull it off vs Juve. We just need to take them games one after the other and pack the 3 points in every game we play and only then make calculations about the next one.

personally i would start cafu, costacurta, stam and serginho in defence vs fiorentina and id leave nesta for juve ... seedorf better sit this one out as well, i think rui should come on instead

I agree, this should be our lineup...
----------dida the great -------
cafu--costacurta...stam----serginho
----------pirlo----------
gattuso--------rui costa----
---------kaka-----------
tommason----sheva

This way we can rest nesta and seedorf ( and stop them from getting yellow cards). In the game against juve seedorf could be a crucial man, we can do it without nesta but im afraid we really need seedorf for juve. Anyway....serginho can attack on the left and create something with rui costa. Fiorentina can score often on their ground so we must be wery careful. Stam and billy can do it. Pirlo needs some fitness so he needs to play. kaka is in ok form and seems like JDT is getting better. Crespo is too slow for away matches that is why JDT should start. With rui, pirlo, kaka and serginho we can get a lot of possesion and calm down the fiorentina..... then sheva scores and we are 1-o up! well....looks nice....

From acmilan.com:

DE SANTIS PROFILE
4/29/2005
MILAN - Massimo De Santis was born on April 8, 1962 in Tivoli. He will be helped by linesmen Stagnoli and Ayroldi, fourth man Rizzoli in tomorrow's game between Fiorentina and Milan. It will be his 138th game in Serie A.
His precedents with Milan are 23: 9 victories, 9 draws and 5 defeats for the Rossoneri. He has officiated Fiorentina on 13 occasions: 6 victories, 6 draws and 1 defeat.

Ok, so it seems that De Santis could be a Berlu man....as opposed to an Agnelli pawn...at least the game may be refereed honestly, or with some slight bias in our favour :D

The only problem is the linesmen...hmmmm....could they be on the Juve payroll?

Ok seriously though....we need to win this match comfortably, though I doubt it will happen...Fiorentina are not likely to give up at home without a fight, and as was visible in the 3-3 draw with the Zebras, and as they face a relegation battle, we can look forward to a tempestuous match.

That Maldini is suspended may be a good thing for our UCL hopes, but it sure puts a damper on our chances in Florence....Max is also out, and as much as I have decried the Italian international, he would be a welcome sight on the pich on Saturday.

Unfortunately ESPN Int think that they have given their viewers an AC Milan overdose, and because we are playing midweek, in a match they will be showing, they in their wisdom, will not be airing our match, but of course, will show Juve walking all over Bologna in Turin on Sunday...the fools! :rollani:

The Real Soc v Madrid match is what they will be showing Sat instead of our game...the fools! :rollani:

When they do show the mighty Milan however, they suddenly regain lost wisdom, and become my favourite station once again!

MILANELLO - Carlo Ancelotti has named a 21-man team for the trip to Fiorentina on Saturday evening. All the players have been called up, including Rino Gattuso, the only exceptions being suspended trio Paolo Maldini, Kakha Kaladze and Massimo Ambrosini.

I think thats good. We have Rui Costa, Nesta and Seedorf a card away from suspension.

So this is the line up I think we should play

Dida

Costacurta
Stam
Pancaro

Not very well - La Viola went very close to scoring through Pazzini who hit the cross bar and after that Nesta had to clear off the line. We seem to be in trouble in these first 20 or so min of the game.
Hope we don't get a goal in the first half after that it is gonna be Milan time, I am certain of it.

Milan is trying to push forward but seems to be lacking concentration and physical strength - gazzetta.
Kaka' makes a "tunnel" on two Fiorentina players one after the other unfortunately this does not give us anyresults so far.
I just hope we don't play like that vs PSV. Hope we are saving our strength for them. The team seems to be very tired at this stage of the season. Carlo should make a better use of our bench in this period and stop using one and the same players all the time.

Actually, I wasn't referring to this game only - right now half of the players out there are not among the regular ones. What I meant is that if the bench had been used more "properly", now, at the end of the season, our regulars like Pirlo, Gattuso, Kaka, Sheva, Seedorf wouldn't have been so tired.

Well, at least we conceded just one goal. Now Carlo is gonna "roast" them a little and hopefully we will improve enough in the second half.
This is gazzetta's review of the first half: "Dopo i primi 45' Fiorentina-Milan 1-0; gol di Maresca. Una traversa per i viola che meritano il vantaggio. Rossoneri spenti"
Basically saying that La Viola deserved their lead and Milan looks tired.

Warro Bantan

From http://www.channel4.com/sport/football_italia/sa0405/fio-mil.html

Enzo Maresca has given Fiorentina a deserved first half lead over Milan at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

This was a decisive encounter for both the Scudetto race and relegation battle, but all eyes were on Manuel Rui Costa. The former Fiorentina captain returned to the Stadio Franchi for the first time since his £27m move in 2001 and it was a very emotional moment for him after seven years in this city. The Rossoneri were without the suspended Paolo Maldini, Kakha Kaladze and Massimo Ambrosini, while Andrea Pirlo, Clarence Seedorf and Hernan Crespo were rested.

Fiorentina had Dario Dainelli out with a two-match ban, so William Viali and Christian Maggio stepped into the defence. Fabrizio Miccoli again partnered Giampaolo Pazzini upfront with Valeri Bojinov on the bench. The last time these teams met, the Viola were on the end of a 6-0 drubbing at the San Siro.

The home side had the first chance after 90 seconds when Luca Ariatti fired over following some good build-up play from Martin Jorgensen and Giampaolo Pazzini. Dida was then secure behind a Fabrizio Miccoli free kick.

Miccoli was again dangerous before Dida smothered a Jorgensen strike at the near post, but Milan really rode their luck on 18 minutes. A looping cross left Dida stranded and Jorgensen nodded it back into the centre only for Pazzini's header to thump the crossbar of an open goal.

Fiorentina had the brighter start and took the lead after 25 minutes with Juve-owned Enzo Maresca. A corner kick took a deflection off Alessandro Nesta and Maresca pounced to turn in the loose ball from six yards.

Both sides had chances with a Jorgensen header, Ariatti counter-attack and promising Kaka solo effort that included two nutmegs, but it was Fiorentina who again threatened to score. A sweeping Miccoli cross reached the head of Pazzini and his finish shaved the woodwork by inches.

Seedorf is ONE yellow card away from suspension. The same goes for Nesta. These two are anything BUT safe for the Juve game.
Guys, this isn't CL but Serie A and a player gets suspended when he accumulates 5 yellow cards, not two.
