David Beckham is still the richest footballer in the world, according to a study published by France Football magazine.
The Real Madrid midfielder does not make the highest yearly salary in world football, but his commercial endorsements and image rights increase his takings to £16.9m.
Jose Mourinho is the world's richest coach, the Chelsea boss has already earned £5.1m in salary and bonuses - which could rise further if the Blues win the Champions League.
Beckham takes home the same yearly wage as Real Madrid teammates Ronaldo and Zinedine Zidane - £4.4m.
Ronaldo's total yearly income is estimated at £13.3m placing him second on the list, while French midfielder Zidane is third with a total of £8.8m.
Of the 20 richest players in the world, Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has the highest wage of £5.1m but limited commercial interests mean his overall income stops at £6.4m - placing him sixth in the world.
Internazionale striker Christian Vieri, with £8.2m, and Alessandro Del Piero of Juventus, with £6.5m, are fourth and fifth respectively.
Eight of the top 20 play in the Premiership. The next wealthiest after Lampard is Thierry Henry, followed by John Terry, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Roy Keane, Patrick Vieira, Sol Campbell and Rio Ferdinand.
Sir Alex Ferguson is the second-wealthiest manager with £4.1m, followed by Sven Goran Eriksson on £3.9m. Arsene Wenger gets £3m.
What I find amazing is that there are no Milan players anywhere on this list...what then is it about Milan that players, who obviously could be making much more money playing for a Chelsea or a Madrid, keep slogging for a club that doesnt pay them as well? Or is it that they are in the 20, just unreported by the Guardian?
I tend to think that we have several well paid players, who will be found in that top 20 list, but the bigger point here is this:
Milan is a club that takes care of its players, plain and simple, and that is why few players ever want away from the club, and this endears the club to me even more. We love a club that treats its players like the human beings that they are....not as merchandise to make a profit from...(read Real Madrid and image rights here)
FORZA MIIIIIIIIIILAN...the more I know about club football, the more I love my club.
