The CL final is over.
As I type this,I am wearing the 98/99 white Milan jersey. So sad but still very proud to be a Milanista.
Our defenders are old.
Billy-38
Costacurta-39
Pancaro-34
Serginho-34
Stam-33
Cafu-35
Nesta-29
Our strikers are ageing too
Pippo-32
Crespo-30
Tommason-29
Sheva-29
The 30s guys should go-this means the entire defence(first teamers and reserves alike)Build the team around
Nesta,Pirlo,Kaka,Rino,Sheva
Man,the Rossoneri needs a really extensive surgery in the summer...

Just to correct you, "billy" is Costacurta's nickname. He is known as Alessandro "Billy" Costacurta. There is no defender at milan called Billy :)
secondly, the last time did a major overhaul of the whole team, they ended up 10th and 11th places in two successive seasons. that's when they got kluivert, davids, reiziger and bogarde. be careful what you wish for - it may come true

Hehe, thanks for making me laugh on a night like this :D

oops, typo,I was carried away while typing
instead of Billy-38 should be Maldini-38
I am still crying...

Firstly, you put "billy" instead of "Maldini".
Now, the current side is already built around the players you mentioned (though Maldini is there too).
Simply put, we could and probably need to make changes in personal to replace those who aren't as effective or as useful as they were. Defenders are still fine and clearly this wasn't the problem last night, but some youngsters need to be looked at now.
The midfield could use some bolstering up, though the only one from the first team I'd consider replacing is Seedorf, as his inconsistency is becoming harmful at times now (its easier to say to replace him than to say how though).
The forwards will need some new faces, as JDT and Pippo aren't as effective as before.
I'm not saying buy a new squad by any means. However, we should continue our previous transfer policy and look to strengthen our weak points.
Put simply, no I don't think we need to break up the team and rebuild at all, but instead should be looking to strengthen our weaknesses (which at this point seem more mental than anything tbh).
instead of Billy-38 should be Maldini-38
Except Maldini is 36, not 38.
i wuz thinking about this topic for a while and then i realized that if we did this then we will become like inter. its never good to change ur whole team, just buy and sell a few players to fix the problem

Yeah. Do not make a total makeover of Milan (that would definitely be disastrous)... sell a few players and buy potential ones. You might still want to keep your old soldiers for next season though but in the meantime prepare for a new generation of Milan.

Goalies:
#1 - DIDA
#17 - Christian ABBIATI
#12 - Valerio FIORI
Dida is 1 of, if not the best GK going around, a true asset to the team. Abbiati was once great, now he is average but I suppose as a second choice GK he is impressive, Valerio Fiore was garbage in the couple of games I have seen but 3rd choice GK isn't really a position that matters although maybe a young 3rd choice keeper would be a wise choice.
Defenders:
# 2 - CAFU
# 5 - Alessandro COSTACURTA
# 4 - Kakha KALADZE
# 3 - Paolo MALDINI
# 13 - Alessandro NESTA
# 26 - Giuseppe PANCARO
# 14 - Dario SIMIC
# 31 - Jaap STAM
With Costacurta retiring, I think we should also sell Simic and Pancaro and sign a couple of younger defenders. Kaladze might be good bait to get Crespo... Chelsea were after Kaladze at one point, not so sure anymore.
Stam,Cafu,Maldini and Nesta should definately stay at the club.
Midfielders:
#23 - Massimo AMBROSINI
#32 - Cristian BROCCHI
#24 - Vikash DHORASOO
#8 - Gennaro Ivan GATTUSO
#21 - Andrea PIRLO
#10 - Manuel RUI COSTA
#20 - Clarence SEEDORF
#22 - KAKA’
#27 - SERGINHO
Now, personally I think it wouldn't be a bad idea to sell Rui Costa, in all honesty when he first signed for Milan I thought he was going to be a hero, sadly he hasn't had such a positive effect. He has done a reasonable service for Milan but I think it is time for him to move on, Brocchi is not a bad player although if he left I wouldn't really care too much although he is a fairly good under-study for Gattuso. Dhorasoo should stay in my opinion, he has had little chance to shine for Milan but whenever he plays he looks dangerous and dynamic. Kaka, Seedorf, Pirlo and Gattuso, Ambrosini and Serginho should all be at Milan for next season.
Strikers:
#11 - Hernan CRESPO
#9 - Filippo INZAGHI
#7 - Andriy SHEVCHENKO
#15 - Jon Dahl TOMASSON
Shevchenko should definately stay, still shocked at his terrible efforts this morning but everyone has a bad day. I hope Crespo is signed for Chelsea, he showed vs Man Utd and today vs Liverpool how good he is and how he can rise to the occasion. Inzaghi of 2003 CL campaign was phenommenal and I hope/think he will stay in the squad, hopefully next season he has better luck and doesn't have too many injuries. Tomasson should be sold, he scores a goal here and a goal there although I do not think he should be playing for AC Milan.
FORZA MILAN!

the defence has 2 be given a thought. milan present defence could play 4 one more season, in the mean time i think we should ready the new young players like MARZORATTI,PERTICONE who looked good against palermo. Who knows we may hav the new maldini or baresi waiting in the youth team of milan. The young players can also get gr8 knowledge 4m the present classy defenders 2 make them world class.

Definately, I think Simic/Pancaro should move on to give Milan some youth, even if the youth are only fringe players it will prepare them for the future.

i think the team should be gradually broken up.But that is waht happens to all teams anyway. The secret is to build on a winning team not a losing team.We do have too many older players. In Italian football clubs do not seem to like to have young fringe players in the squad preferring to loan them out to get some experience.Personally I think we should have young players in and around the squad training with the first team, getting to know the systems and generally just being part of things.Like last week they can even be involved in games as subs or starting from time to time.It is not easy to re-build in a big way the team should evolve from the current team.
Let's face it guys,we r chokers! We can't even hold a 3-0 lead for 45 minutes. It's a real disgrace. This Milan team will never b great as the Milan of the late 80's and early 90's.Those players had the will 2 win.To them it was a matter of life and death. This Milan team on the other hand is capable of producing freaks of nature.I thought Deportivo was bad. This was horrendous.Either they were complacent or just too stupid.
The team needs a serious make-over.Obviously we need 2 restructure our defence.I hope Costacurta,Maldini,Cafu,Pancaro,Simic,Seedorf,Brocchi,Dhorasoo,Tomasson,Inzaghi and Crespo leave.
No offence guys but most of them have done enough 4 the club. Some of them are just too old and warming the bench. We need an injection of youth. We have enough experience. We need a large squad 2 compete in all competitions.I hope Silvio and Galliani finally wake up their idea and start buying.
I hope Sheva dosen't leave. He and Kaka were by far the best players on the pitch
No offence to the Rossoneri but as a fan of Milan for 10 years,it irks me 2 c Milan lose when they have a seemingly unassailable lead.I wrote this out of anger and frustration. All i can say is we need restructuring and fast
i hope the club doesnt tihnk the way you do... i dont mean to be rude or arrogant but ur post is "stupid" by all means. look no one is happy about today... but if u think we should change 75% of our team then why not go and support another 'younger' team that wears red and black?
and how was sheva along with kaka one of our best players today? ... if anyone its maldini and pirlo along with kaka... the whole team played great and not one did badly, we didnt have luck on our side and the ref was **** by all means... but i would put sheva as our worst player today, im not attacking him, i love him more than anyone but he did not have a good game and when a player plays bad we shouldnt deny it just because of who he is... he was unlucky, everything seemed to go wrong for him, he had another offside goal ruled out in a final and it couldve counted again, and then he witnessed the luckiest save in the dying seconds of extra time from point blank... u get me superman and he wouldve wasted that penalty if he had was in sheva mental state.
i think that JDT miss from an open net should see him leave, i dont mind seeing simic and pancaro leave, same with brocchi and abbiati, i would like to see inzaghi leave as well. instead i would like to see us get jankulovski, gilardino, makinwa, crespo, pizarro and oddo.
we should stick to the same formation, and play jankulovski in seedorfs place, gila with sheva upfront, and makinwa and crespo should fight for a place in the starting lineup (its about time we have serious competition there, and with different types of strikers), we missed ambrosini today and he should stay, but if this happened again i think a player like pizarro would be useful, you would take out gattuso and play him instead, oddo would also fight for a starting spot and he should get alot of chances...
i know alot of you are unhappy, i would be the first to say so, but you cannot forget how the team played in the first half and for the 114 minutes even... in the 1st half i saw the best peice of football in a final in my whole life, just because we were unlucky and we lost in the end it doesnt mean the whole squad should change
please be logical
I think they should get rid of a few players like Rui, Serginho, Inzaghi, Tomasson, these players I feel, won't get any better, we have to replace them early as it will give us time to build the team + allow the new players to settle down, we need to add some more quality to our squad as it is evident we are good enough, (2nd place is not convincing for me),
Ancelloti should stay no doubt, he has'nt had the money say that Real, ManU or even Barca have spent over the last few years. Still he has done a commendable Job,
Maybe some more players of high quality will do the trick, I personally think we need players that play on the wing just to give us variety and more depth, Maybe someone like Pires, Shaun Wright Phillips, someone with more energy,
we need another Striker no doubt, I think this is the area where the Club will have the most difficulty, Crespo will not be allowed to stay, Mourinho will want him back after yesterday's performance , Milan could use the above players (Rui, Sergi and pippo) along with some money to get us a new striker,
if you think what I am saying is Blasphemy, look what the club did to Demetrio, so it is possible, for me the Club is more Imp, not the players.
I agree, if anything, the way we played in the first half should convince others that we have an amazing foundation to build a dominant side on. The first half was probably the most one sided game we've played in the CL. I think we need to buy some decent squad players so we can rotate, the midfield is way to predictable, and a young defender or two as well as the all important striker.
I agree with MK here, we can't make a 75% change in our team, don't forget that before the PSV away game (20 days ago) we said and everyone said we're the best team in the world.
This thread wouldn't been here if we didn't made those 5 minutes of blackout which costed the whole season.
I agree though that we should sell players like Serginho, Pancaro, Tomasson or Inzaghi. There's a problem though, that Serginho, Pancaro, Costacurta, Rui Costa and Inzaghi, this season got a contract extension so I think they'll remain.
IMO we just need a reserve for Cafu, Gilardino and Janulovsky maybe a reserve for Pirlo.
Don't forget that yestersday Milan dominated for 110 minutes a match of 120.
i cant understand why you would want serginho out??? ... hes been one of out best 5 players throughout the season. and it took the determination of a player like gerrard to deny him stop mouth watering crosses and yet still he managed to send some in all have been very dangerous.
Don't forget that yestersday Milan dominated for 110 minutes a match of 120.
And we still lost, we dominated the whole season and still ended up with nothing, this is football no doubt but we have to learn from our mistakes, we need to make improvements if we are to remain dominant.
i cant understand why you would want serginho out???
he looks dangerous and is effective because he plays on the left flank, Milan don't use the flanks to often, many teams prepare themselves against us by packing the midfield, i think we need quality wingers no doubt, we need more variety, yesterday we were predictable, Gerard was put on the right to stop serginho and segi could'nt get past him, can't blame him though.
gerrard was put on the right because they took out their right back and when the match was level they couldnt risk letting such a dangerous player like serginho roam around there with no one marking him... pool had no options... if finnan was there serginho wouldve made him wish he was never born
and despite gerrards heroics serginho still managed to send in some delicous crosses namely the one where JDT chocked on and the sheva double try
True, but Serginho is not going to get any better, Trust with our Club even a half decent winger will look good, the fact as i have stated earlier is that we play too much in the centre and once we get a winger on, the opposition lose their balance.

True, but Serginho is not going to get any better ...
I would love to see the player in this current Milan side who will get any better. Except for Kaka, maybe. Most of them are very experienced and already fully developed players, so we will have to get rid of 95% of the team if we are to keep only those who have room for improvement - with Maldini at the head of the line.
Serginho is not of the same Class as Maldini, One can't really compare the 2, Maldini contribution to Milan is much more. Maldini is a Legend, it's a Shame some have'nt realised it as yet, he has given more to the club than any player currently playing.

On to a serious note:
Juve managed to win the Scudetto this year with an above average team in which no player really had a phenomenal season: They also managed to win with core players in the same age range as we have:
Nedved, Del Piero, Cannavaro, Thuram, etc: all over 30.
Breaking up the team is irrational...it would take 3 years just to get back to the level this team is at. Why get rid of a Shevchenko when he has clearly matured and is at his peak??
You know what the biggest injustice for this team is: history will see this 2004-2005 squad as not winning a major trophy. Given the way this team played in Serie A and CL for the majority of the season it is simply unfair...the season and CL was lost "in the end".
I still think this team was the best in Europe for 2004-2005 despite the result because you cannot honestly look at the team and say they need a drastic change or even a BIG change.

Agree...Agree....
disagree. a team should play 90 mins to be the best in europe. if they play 45, 60, 75 mins and expect to walk out winners, they are sadly mistaken. psv proved it, brescia proved it, siena proved it, lecce proved it, and now liverpool proved it. NONE of these teams are great euro powers, but Milan succumbed to them because they played only part of the game.
don't break up the team - break up that stinking deportivo attitude.
nicostallion
26-05-2005, 09:19
its true what nadir said the deportivo attitude, when they pulled one goal back we should of raised our tempo instead when it got to 3-3 we were completely shellshocked, if liverpool had the guts to get back in it we should have. My god i mean liverpool are a bad team im sorry but its the truth, in the first half alone we could of put 5 past them. Now we really need to lose this attitiude that the players have.
Totally agree with nadir its the deportivo attitude
I am not talking of breaking the team up, but players that been more on the bench than not should be replaced, we need players to fight for their places, last night the entire team picked itself, it was obvious weeks before this would be final 11 barring injuries. We need more competition withing the team if we want to improve, and Yes We Have To Improve.
what nicostallion said is true. that shell-shocked attitude is exactly what we saw at the riazor. they had no capability to fight back. and yes, nicostallion is right - liverpool finished 5th in the EPL! 5th!! and Milan could have destroyed them by a score of 5-0 if they were focussed. It's not that Liverpool outclassed Milan in that second half - it is only that Milan didn't PLAY AT ALL. Why did they get so nervous after going 3-1? why keep the pace of the game fast when liverpool obviously wanted to play at a fast pace? MIlan should have slowed that game down and played possession football.
why not adapt to liverpool's extra midfielder quickly? move gattuso or seedorf into defence! or EVEN BRING ON BROCCHI after going down 3-2 or Kaladze! (then again, ancelotti was shell shocked too)
if liverpool played milan again, it would be a slaughter for sure but with this milan's attitude, even after going up 5-0, they would thing "game over" and let liverpool come back and win 6-5 :(
not sure how many of you were here during the last major milan overhaul - it was the season where we got kluivert, davids, reiziger, bogarde, andreas andersson, saudati, commandati, taibi, and we all know what happened lol

I definately dont agree that we need a major overhaul, just the addition of a few world class players in key positions.
Defence, Midfield, and Forward.
With this new purchase, the dude from PSV....dont remember his name in my shell shocked state....hopefully we are on the way to a small, but important realignment of the team which will benefit us next season and in coming seasons.
Two more world class players, and we should be fine.
Of course there would have to be some departures, but those should be from the ranks of the "second team"....
vogel is a good signing indeed. he is in the mould of ambrosini but can pass better. that being said ,i sure hope dhorasso stays and plays a more prominent role.

U know Nadir, I totally agree..........Dhorasso should be given a chance to prove himself, even if he is approaching his "sell by date"....
Ok since we have so many threads now :D ...... Khris brings up a very good point, we need bench players that Ancelotti will actually be comfortable to use, rotation will be key to at least any fatigue factor which certainly leads to not being able to focus for the whole 90 min. Again using Simic just as an example, we should have players on the bench that will be used outside some early coppa matches. More than any system changes and overhauls the look of the bench is the key.
this milan team i think is definatly stronger than the team of 2002-03 because that team was a renaisance, this team is known to be the best in the world and when we play our game no one can compete with us ... the only difference between the 2 teams is that the old one knew how to control the tempo of the match and made the oppositition play the way they wanted to... the current team risks it alot, theyre looking to get out with 3 points even if it meant to defend the whole 90 mins, im not saying this is neccesarily bad (it has to be done in certain situations like vs psv and fiorentina) but when u force the opposition to play ur type of game then they have no chance of doing anything to us plus we get out of the match without being tired really.
another thing i noticed between the 2 teams is that the old one used to be more passionate... mainly gattuso, no disrespect but the guy seems to have lost a large amount of determination... the thing that put him above all DMs in the game... the istanbul game needed rino to run to our crowd and jump like crazy asking them to support us til the end... plus he also seems to give up on some runs while the old rino never did and got the ball no matter what
Next season, Maldini should only play centre back and not left-back. The lack of width is obvious and by playing Maldini there we lose about 50% attacking potential because he doesn't have the energy or skill to beat people. Jankulovski should play there and Maldini,Stam and Nesta will have to fight it out for the CB positions.
The best way to make the bench better is by getting a midfielder that will start ahead of Seedorf. We need more power and speed in midfield, it's that simple. Pirlo and Seedorf are so slow and hopeless at getting back to make a tackle, it's a joke sometimes. When an opposition rolls over and we're in control then that's great, but when the pressure is on, neither seem to have the strength to alter the game. When you have to do the ugly things and fancy passes aren't called for, they can't do it.
Benching them now and again might give them a bit of a shock so they think "hang on, my place is under threat i better put more effort in".
I don't think we should spend £10 million on Crespo. Better to spend it on Bojinov or try for Martins. They both can score goals, are quick and in Martins case he looks like he'd run from one end to the other just to make a tackle.
If we were to release Serghino, then we should get Esposito of Caligari. I think he would be ideal as a replacement for El Concorde.
first of all congratulations jim *my a$$* :D:D:D
2nd of all maldini doesnt lack skill infact this is what makes him the best defender ever he doesnt only defend he does it with style and class which requieres sublime skills
i agree with you on seedorfs case but i dont agree when u put pirlo in there as well... pirlo isnt a fighter ... we all agree but yesterday he did his best and was the best on the pitch for both teams IMO so u cannot blame him, i think were leaving too much space for opposition to shoot, somehow we dont see seedorf trying to block a shot anymore, nor do u see gattuso running up and down the field to stop a counter attack, and u dont see coverage in defence anymore where when one CB goes out to stop a run the other takes his place...
i think we should keep the backline the way it is, and play jankulovski in seedorfs place and start gila upfront and we should have an option B from now on because defensivly the xmass tree formation isnt much different from our actual formation, we should find a new formation where different players are required and not neccessarily our starting 11.
i still think we are the best team in europe so no drastic changes needed but maybe a top midfielder to be brought in to really challenge for seedorf's postion. also make crespo a permenant signing and hopefully gila too
in defense next year i hope milan sell simic, kaladze, costacurta(retire), pancaro( give him bac to lazio), n we buy janku, oddo and insert a young player in the center either from our youth or just buy one. in middlefield we shud sell brochi and buy pizarro. in atack we shud buy gila, makinwa, crespo and sell jdt and pippo. As for goaltending lets loan abbiatti and get another back up. thus our squad looking like this:
Dida(fiori,????)
Cafu(oddo) Nesta (??????) Stam(maldini) Janku(serginho)
gattuso(ambrosini) Pirlo(Pizarro) Seedrof(Dhorassoo)
Kaka(rui)
Sheva(Makinwa) Gila( Crespo)
i think dhorassoo can challenge seedorf. he is quite good and has always imprersed when he has played

guys wakeup. what happend 2 us wasn't because of age it was because of attitude. if it was because of age we wouldn't have been to play again after the begging of the second half but we did manage to play well after those crazy 6 minutes.
Age has nothing to do with it, it was the attitude which carlo should of fixed in half time instead of putting the champane on ice!!
yea but if not this year then next year we will have to change our defense, maldini and cafu cant go on forever(although it looks like it when they r playing). i think with vogel coming in, we will be sure to see brochi out and mayb even dhorassoo.

I have not seen you so serious in a while KhRiS???? You're cool either way. You have made a very good point here. If anything the coach needs to always have a problem making a lineup. We all can see that the team did get tired at the end and that the reserves were only so-so at best. Everyone needs to be fighting for a place because everyone should be their best and dependable. We rely on a few players too many times and still we got the results that we see. Hey our "untouchables" should be fighting for a spott seriously that would include Sheva, Nesta, Rhino, Pirlo... the lot them! That way it should allow Carlo to rotate players through the whole season with no problem or doubt and with much ease of mind. Right now it isnt that way.
Plus I see a huge imblance in our team structure if anyone is intereste in hearing it. Some of you might be thinking the same thing but I'll explain it only if someone asks.

i Believe it is very dangerous to replace the whole team, i also think playing stam- Nesta- Maldini isnt a good idea either. Stam, Nesta and Maldini are all world class defenders, but there not the quickess of defenders, it would be better to play 2 of them, then 2 younger left and right backs.
i think something has to be done with the team, Tomasson, Brocchi, Simic, Pancaro should definately go. Serghino and Rui Costa i think are reaching the end of there careers, and maybe could make way for younger players.
My concern for next year is Inzaghi, i am a huge fan of his (have italy shirt from the time around the wales game, with Inzaghi printed on it), but im am conserned that we wont see the real inzaghi again, i think injuries will haunt him again next season. We lack pace in our strikers, Sheva really is the only one who can cause damage (other than kaka). We need another striker like George Weah...... lol
i think we need 2/3 defenders 2 midfielders and 2 strikers for next season., this really depends on who we sell and keep.
Think of the Liverpool loss as a learning point, i kno it hurts, but to be honest i would have prefered we had gone out in the final, than against a poor team in the first group stage. i think the teams most shameful game was against galatasaray in istanbul under zac, finishing bottom of the group stage was slightly disapointing, i kinda had the feeling istanbul would come back to haunt us.
And my final question is Costacurta definately retiring this season?
You know the funny thing is I was comfortable losing to this team. There are some teams that I cant stand losing to at any time. This Liverpool in all my honesty impressed me very much and all I can do is show admiration despite the loss our team suffered. I will even be bold and say of any team I was ok losing to it was this one. It's heartbreaking to know we had the game at the half only to let it slip by. But I had expected the unexpected was possible days before the game was ever played.
Why should this squad be replaced? They misfired for 6 mins in the Final and for a coulple of secs against Juve for Trez's goal. If it wasn't for that we could be looking at double winners!
Would you then be looking to replace the team?
The team needs a few more players to add strenght in depth. Fighting on all fronts takes its toll. Vogel, Gila, Oddo and Jankulovski...thats all.
