What are the differences in terms of tactics,leadership/management and other aspects?
lets just say that we need to improve alooooooooot to compare this team with capello's and sacchi's teams.
i havent seen the old one but this one i am sure could easily be the best in the world history... a mix of the squad 2 years back and this one would do it... we are absolutly perfect except for the mental state... when were schoked ... were SHOCKED!!! ... were missing the determination we had a few seasons back and with that we could make history once more!
What are the differences in terms of tactics,leadership/management and other aspects?
Sacchi's Milan were one of the greatest teams of all time, THE perfect balance between attack and defence. The is NO comparison with his team and any other Milan team in history. Sacchi's team would have beaten Liverpool 6-0 without trying. You cannot imagine how good that team was if you haven't seen them play. They played 4-4-2 pressing with offside, could attack through the middle, down the flanks, go long, hit teams on the break, everything. Thinking of that team brings me to tears.
Capello and Ancelotti's teams are about equal. In Capello's first season in charge he inherited Sacchi's squad and they played the same way. Once he had to change it (due to Van Basten's injury and Rijkaard leaving) they played more defensive and relied heavily on Savicevic's creativity because the forwards were not very good.
Ancelotti's Milan team plays much better football but are nowhere near as strong in defence or mentally.

Good point and knowledge of our history. While this team is very good, it is not like sacchi's milan. I think the biggest difference is this team does not have the formation balance that Sacchi had.
The thing that has been bothering me is the formation where Pirlo doesnt win the ball like Gattuso does. And Gattuso doesnt contribute to the offense as well as we would like. These guys if skills combined into one player would be something. To make up for Gattuso's offensive shortcomings we use Cafu as a overlapping wing which to me is inefficient play movement. While on the left we lack the defensive wing creativity. Seedorf is too central and really sucks on the wing while Maldini is not the same left back as he was in his younger years.
So Gattuso needs to be a bit like Pirlo, Pirlo a bit like Gattuso. Maldini should stay Central from now on, and we need to find a Cafu like player on the left. With such imbalance our team has formation wise I think our offense and defense has disturbing deficiency that is starting to come to light or we must finally come to admit. More balance like the Saccho team will see glory galore. There needs to be a lot of decision making in the summer break.
FORZA MILAN!
I wrote a comparison about these 3 Milan sides here (http://www.milanmania.com/forums/showpost.php?p=282393&postcount=6) a while ago. Ancelotti's Milan's record at continental competitions is now 2 out of 4 (50%) :dumpf:
PS: Mehdi, are you Benny from RSS?

Yes that's me. Good article. Every Milan team will be measured against Sacchi's team and every team will fall short.

Sacchi's Milan was tactically incredible. The current Milan does not have the tactical ability Sacchi's did, though tactically it is still VERY good.
The aspect about this Milan that surpasses even Sacchi's is the technical abilities of all the players. They are from this aspect superior.
However, for me, the deciding factor is the mentality. The current side is suffering mental issues that must be dealt with. Once these are settled, we can dominate football as well as the Sacchi side, as we have shown time and time again, we have the quality.
Currently, I would say Sacchi's side is superior. If the current side can solve the mental issues that have come around, it can be compared to Sacchi's great side. However, I will probably still take Sacchi's Milan due to their tactical genius.
Despite the fact I've made this comparison, I don't really like to compare the sides, as they are two different sides from two different eras.

Though it is difficult to compare teams, it is also fun:
I think the game might go like this
Milan (Sacchi/Capello) 4-4-2 : Rossi, Tassotti, Baresi, Costacurta, Maldini, Gullitt, Rijkaard, Albertini, Donadoni, Massaro, Van Basten
Milan (now) 4-1-2-1-2: Dida, Cafu, Nesta, Stam, Maldini, Pirlo, Gattuso, Seedorf, Kaka, Shevchenko, Crespo.
Saachi's milan struggle early on to contain the break neck pace of the new Milan attack, Baraesi, is by passed three times in the first ten minutes by the Siberian express, who has two early efforts turned away by Rossi.
Franco clearly irritated by the flying no.7 gives him the trademark late tackle followed by the famous Italin hands in the air gesture which means 'I never touched him ref!' Collina gives Franco along glare and a yellow card!!
A great calsh is developing on the far side between Gullitt and Maldini, Rudd is alternating between trying to run Paulo down the line and drifting in behined the strikers, while Paulo drifts with him breaking up the play and getting the ball back for new Milan.
Gattuso and Rijakaard are head to head in the fight for midfield supremacy the two no 8's clashing in the midfield,
Marco Van Basten starts the game tentetively not used two the new rules, which mean he can take the ball back to goal with out being kicked in to row Z by some stopper petrified of the Dutch master.
New Milan strike first after 24 mins the attack is shifted away from Sheva by Kaka, who plays the ball up the right to Cafu, who after loosing Donadoni powers up the Wing and delivers a high cross to the far post where Crespo outmuscles Costacurta at the far post and plants an unstoppable header past Rossi,
New Milan continue to dominate into the second half, until Saachis Milan come to terms with the new protection reules and the new foreigner rules.
Saachi relaces Massaro with Papin and Albertini with Boban. Immidiatley the game turns toward old Milan.
In the seventieth minute Boban gets the ball from Rijkarrd and switches the ball instantly to Gullitt, for once the Gullitt in his prime outpaces the 37 year old Maldini and drives the ball across the 18 yard box where Van Basten, who has ghosted away from Stam, flicks out his right foot and diverts the ball into the top corner past a Helpless Dida.
Both teams swarm at each other and it looks like new Milans superior fitness is begining to tell...
The 88th minute comes and Thommason (on for Crespo) is bullied of the ball by a combination of Boban and Rijkaard, the ball drops to Donadoni who has drifted off the wing and way from Cafu, Donadoni 40 yards out chips the ball to the far post where Gullitt, Bullish as ever cahrges Nesta away from the ball and heads it across the 6 yard box.
The ball drops for the sniffer Papin, who as usual has no time for ceremony, Blasts the ball past the hapless Dida!!!
Victory for old Milan!!!!

Mehdi, you say Milan would have beaten Liverpool 6-0, but you are citing your greatest team!! would they have beaten the Liverpool vintages of 79, 84, or 88 6-0?

Due respect Liverpool was at their best in the 70s and 80s but sacchi's Milan was the best that was ever to conquer europe. Sacchi create a new game altogether and the player at his disposal from the great capt, Baresi to Van basten and the mentality of facing every match....just read my sig. :5drunk:

They would have beaten them comfortably, maybe 2-0 or 3-0 but not 6-0. Under today's rules Van Basten would be impossible to stop and with all due respect to Shevchenko, he isn't half the player Van Basten was.
Though it is difficult to compare teams, it is also fun:
I think the game might go like this
Rijkaard would put Gattuso in his pocket and Van Basten and Gullit would make mincemeat of the defence. I think a better match-up would be between Sacchi's Milan and Capello's Milan of 1994. That would be close but the Dutchmen would just make the difference.
there isn't much different except that:
Pirlo + Gattuso = Rijkaard.
So the current one is inferior to the old one because of one less player. :)

Not all Dutchmen. Kaka and Sheva are (at least almost) equivalent to Gullit and MVB. Only Rijkaard, IMHO.
Sacchi/Capello's Milan would win fairly easily. Firstly the argument of pace was brought up, a young Maldini at left-back would be able to cope with Cafu, plus because Maldini got forward alot in his early days he would be able to put Cafu on the back foot (what a spectacle that would have been though :D ) Aside from Kaka and Shevchenko, there is no one else in our team with pace, Costacurta and Baresi would have been able to cope with them quite well. Why you ask ? Well, this leads to the next point, the ability to hassle and press the opposition. Sacchi/Capello's Milan were one of the best teams in the history of club sides to press the opposite team. Wherever the opposition went, there would be 2 or 3 players hounding them to force them into mistakes, this ability meant they didn't have a problem beating lower teams or the best teams. Yes the Milan of today could cope for a while, but we would eventually crack and back comes the mentality side of it. The pressure today's Milan would be under would be immense and it would be a constant pressure. Finally i think the old Milan would score more goals and from many different players, not just Van Basten. If Shevchenko doesn't score for us (this season particularly), then sometimes we don't score at all. I personally believe that they would have more options for getting a goal.
These things point to a win for the old Milan, for me anyway.

may i just say i made these kind of points in my "ancelotti out thread" yet most people jumped on my back without ever fully reading what i had written...
kui ur absolutely right.. this time soesnt ahve the balance between defence or attack adn is not resolute when it comes to "battening down the hatches" the team is too soft int he middle and this has been exposed far to often if ancelotti doesn`t do something it`ll be exposed once again during the coming season..
one thing you can say about sacchis or capellos teams were that they were never soft and never ever mentally unstable....
:510:
p.s im sure this post may encite some rage in someone....let the debate begin!!!

No one is the equivalent of Van Basten. Kaka' has a long way to go before being compared to Gullit. Everyone in the World was scared of facing Gullit and Van Basten, only Shevchenko has that aura in the current side.

I tend to agree on you xudong, we lack a player like rijkaard in these current squad and I believe this is our weakness the opposition has exploited. I hope Ancelotti will solve this problem.
