There were nearly 90'000 Milan fans went to Barcelon when Milan played the CL final after 1969.

Just like it is with players, success makes spoiled brats out of many "fans" as well.

Maybe a little. But not all. If you went there (Istanbul), then you are definitely entitled to scold all others. If you weren't, please think before you talk.
As Aim kindly pointed out, in 1989, 20 years after we were last time in the Champions Cup's final, nearly 90000 fans went to Barcelona. this time it was Liverpool in the same position.
Milan fans weren't "spoiled", well, maybe a little. But they are humans too. Crossing European lands surely wasn't cheap.
There are still thousands of Liverpool fans who went there without tickets. I don't know what they had in their mind. What could have happened if Liverpool actually lost.
That said, if this loss could have been predicted, I suspect that much more Milan fans would left for Istanbul to change this fate. :v46:

Not true at all. We've been in 7 European finals and I am not counting the trips for the Inter-Continental title to Japan and the other European odysseys.
It is a big bulk of money spent by the fans over the years. It is big money and still 20K made it. Credit to the Milan fans who made the trip because it is not easy.
Liverpool on the other hand had 40,000 as they reached a final after 20 years. When Milan reached the final after twenty years in 89, the last one being in 69, we packed the Camp Nou with 90,000 fans.
We have to look at ourselves and question why didn't we break the bank to make the trip to Istanbul to support our team? It's better to applaud the lot who were there rather than questioning the people who weren't.
i would have been there but i had an exam on the tuesday from 4 to 7 so there was no possible way i could have made it to istanbul in time from ireland

I am not sure what your point is guys but you both point out one and the same fact that speaks for itself - in 1989, when Milan hadn't won anything in Europe for 20 years, 90 000 fans went to Spain, and now when we have been spoiled by our team's success since Silvio took over - CL final has become more or less a comodity for us - hardly 20 000 made it to Turkey.
I agree that travelling around Europe for soccer games isn't cheap but do you think those fans who made it to Barcelona in 1989 had less expenses than the ones who went to Istanbul? Do you think travelling to Spain is so much easier and cheaper than going to Turkey? Not to mention that travel expenses have decreased a lot over the past 15 or so years or that standard of living has increased, in general, throughout Western Europe since 1989
I am honestly surprised that you fail to see the pattern here, and I am sure there is one if you check the "attendance" of Milan-played CL finals from 1989 onwards. Nobody is claiming that travelling for CL final is easy or that it comes cheap but the same goes not only for Milan fans in Istanbul but also for all Liverpool fans who made it there, and the same is true for those 90 000 Milan fans who made it to Barcelona.
Truth is that the more often we manage to get to the final, the less valuable these achievements would become to the fans and to the players. It is human nature at its most basic - the more you have of something, the less desirable it becomes - we see this in life, love, and football too. Fans react to this by going less and less frequently to these CL finals i.e. becoming less and less willing to sacrifice time and money for the chance to support their team. Players react by loosing little by little from their "hunger" for trophies and determination on the field and start to appreciate less and less a CL trophey - especially when you have 3-4-5 of them.
What do you think is the source of this tendency of our team to relax and look even arrogant at times, something we have witnessed way too often throughout this season and this is exactly what cost us dearly in the end, even more so than physical tiredness. And this is true for every team - be that Milan, Juve, Real, ManU, etc - which has been so successful. This is a trend which could be seen even Milan of Sacchi and even in that of the despotic Capello - it is human nature and the only way to cope with it is to bring in fresh, hungry for success players in place of the complacent "superstars" - why do you think top, successful teams tend to rejuvanate their squads from the bottom up every 4-5 years or so.

Don't worry, you might not be able to comprehend what I meant but you I can fully exonerate you for that :2whis: :guw:

I am honestly not sure what made you think that I am critisizing those Milan fans who couldn't financially afford to go to Istanbul for not doing so. I am honestly not sure in which part of my first post you saw me blaming a 10-year-old Milan fan or a Milan fan from Somalia, India, Tailand where people work for 5 bucks a month for not making it to Istanbul. I am honestly not sure where exactly did you get this idea that I am blaming somebody say from Eastern Europe or Central Africa for making $600 a year, if lucky, and thus being unable to go to the CL final and support Milan.
What I am sure, however, is that for every 10 Milan fans who simply can't afford going to the final there are 10 others who won't be finacially RAPED if they had to make that trip. Now the problem is - I tried to explain why this is the case in my previous post - that in 1989, 5-6 out of these 10 would have actually MADE it to Barcellona, while now 16 years and countless of CL finals later, 1-2 of those 10 would in fact make it to Istanbul.
I just hope that I have made myself clearer and easier to comprehend.

Zlatan... I really liked what u wrote and i completely agree with you. First of all, fans would be hungry for the cup more than ever. There were Liverpool fans everywhere who was supporting their team even in the half time...
But we are hungry for a revenge by now? What do you think?

I was in Isatanbul, and I can tell you that Liverpool fans were rather quite till the 3-1 goal. They sang for 1 minute "we will never walk alone" during halftime.
Oh..next time, i'll will try to go,

I agree with Milanistas here.
Our club Celtic took rumoured to be upon over 100,000 to Seville for the UEFA Cup final in 2003, that is as our last European final was in 1972. If we were ther every year I am sure 10k to 20k would be more normal.
Our usual European away trips we only take 5,000 to 8,000 for mainland Europe, bigger than many contintal clubs. Why do Milanistas not go these European away matches rather than Palermo away etc - at Celtic 2,000 was maximum Milanistas???

Cause your away games in the league are a 1/2 hour drive max, in Italy for example todays Milan away game in Udine was 5 hours from Milano, furthermore, for example for Eindhoven vs Milan, fans were awarded only 1600 tickets, in the end it becomes way too expensive and tirering to travel abroad aswell as for the league, giving for granted that you will indeed find a ticket. The week we played Man United, we then played Inter.
Regarding the Celtic game, it was very expensive and we had already qualified.
Do you think travelling to Spain is so much easier and cheaper than going to Turkey?
this isn't the crutch of your arguement so I'm not really disagreeing, but for me anyway this is totally true. If I had of booked tickets to Girona airport (barecelona) from the airport nearest me it would have cost me £50, at most maybe a £100. To go to Istanbul I was looking at shelling out over £1000.

I understand what you're saying zlatanov, but to be honest it is a hell of a lot more expensive to get to Istanbul than Barcelona. For me to travel from the UK, it would have cost £500 ($911 according to a currency convertor) for the flight, while a flight to Barcelona is £50 ($91) and a flight to Paris next year is about £40 ($73). Plus all the flights from the UK were booked up by Liverpool fans.
According to the newspapers, the hotel costs were £600 ($1094) where as you can get a room in Paris or Barcelona for a lot cheaper.
I'm not arguing with your point, or making an excuse for myself or any other fans, but it certainly does seem a lot more expensive to go to Istanbul. As I said before, these costs are only from the UK, not from the rest of Europe.
And before anyone says it, yes I know all the Liverpool fans travelled from the UK, so had to pay these prices......
