View Full Version : Parma vs Bologna pre/post games - relegation playoff
For those interested in keeping tabs on this game. Personally, I can't wait to see Parma take the drop. I never liked them since Faustino Asprilla scored that goal against Milan to end their unbeaten streak back in the 1990's. And now, here they are, finally going back where they belong - hopefully. ;) :hihihi:
"Bologna and Parma - local rivals from the Emilia-Romagna region - will face each other in a two-legged play-off on June 14 and 18."
"Parma will be without six suspended players for the first-leg of their Serie A survival play-off with Bologna.
The Disciplinary Commission have today confirmed that Alessandro Contini, Jorge Bolano, Daniele Bonera, Domenico Morfeo, Alberto Gilardino and Fabio Vignaroli have been handed one-match bans.
The loss of Bonera, Morfeo and Gilardino (pictured), who has netted 23 League goals this term, is a particular blow to the Tardini outfit.
Bologna boss Carlo Mazzone has just one suspension to deal with in the form of Brazilian defender Juarez.
The two teams, who finished the season level on 42 points, will face each other at Parma on June 14 before the return at the Dall’Ara on June 18.
Eleven other players have been handed one match bans and they will serve them at the start of next season.
They are: Milanetto, Schopp, Domizzi (Brescia), Coppola (Messina), Cassetti, Dalla Bona (Lecce), D'Anna, Moro (Chievo), Scurto (Roma), Viali (Fiorentina), Volpi (Sampdoria)."

I think Parma are a fantastic outfit with a penchant for exciting football. Their situation in Italy has always intrigued me as they have honed the likes of Hernan Crespo, Adriano and now Alberto Gilardino but despite their prodigious talent, they have always under-achieved in a way. Perhaps not as badly as our cross-city cousins but you would expect Parma to have gathered more than a UEFA Cup in the last decade.
And now their unfortunate financial collapse has only lent itself to more calcio post-mortems. Even if Parma stay afloat, I doubt they will ever again enjoy the status of being one of the sisters again.
On the other hand, Bologna have always been one of the more financially stable clubs in Italy. Alongside Juventus, their balance book rarely ventures into the red, even if recent times have suggested to purchase a more reliable striker!
If I had to pick a team, I would have to go for Parma in this one. But at the same time, their relegation might also mean a more affordable price tag for Gilardino.
The ambivalence, let me tell ya. :grinser:

After this, no ambivalence from me! Galliani likes 'em cheap. :D Forza Bologna!
As a Serie A fan, I would rather see Parma than Bologna in the top flight next year. Who cares about Bologna?
Parma is also more usefull long term for Milan (and Juve and Inter) if they remain in Serie A, as they have a track record of developing talants for the bigger teams.
Parma has always been useful for Juventus. :fero: I hope the story will change a bit after we get Gilardino.

It'll be hard for Parma though, consider THIS: The list of players that will miss the 1st leg
Morfeo (susp)
Vignaroli (susp)
Gilardino (inj & susp)
Contini (susp)
Bresciano (int)
Grella (int)
Bettarini (inj)
Marchionni (inj)
Bolano (susp)
Bonera (susp)
bwahahhaha. yes that list is posted in the first post of this thread :)
I like Bologna as such in that they have a strong AC Milan following in that city. Nice overhanging promenade that city has when walking as when it rains it doesnt get all wet and nasty. Errrr football.. sorry was reminiscing my time there. No I'd rather see Bologna through as a relegated Parma will see a lot of good players leaving and maybe some of them to Milan.

I think im leaning towards bologna... parma's a great club and everything but if they're relegated it might be beneficial to Juve (players!!) and bologna, well, seems more consistent than parma this season if that makes any sense.
Will it be better if Parma relegate and Gila will be forced to leave it?
However Parma is always my second italian team...:(

I always think second teams kinda belong in the next division down. Look at it from the bright side... they could win next years Serie B title.
I was thinking the same thing. If Parma goes down, what becomes the sale option of Gilardino??? Is it right for a relegating team to sell a player for that much???

reports say he might be going to chelsea. i hope he doesn't join milan - that's what important for me. and i hope parma go down to serie C next season after selling all their players ;)

Well now that you've broken the ice, I kinda have the same sentiments about Gila. Everyone else has just a big boner for this guy, who could be nothing more than a young Hubner who does well only with the minnow clubs. You know us talking about Gila like this is nothing short of heresy to some here. Ahhh I dont give a fvck about it! How about you???

gila is awesome...........
if he can score so much with the parma players assisting him........ then he will do 50 times better with milan players setting up the action for him.
btw- we need an attacker who scores vs. small teams
errrr... that is noit a definite fact at all. There have been more flops than successes with these so called wonder kids throughout the history of football. This is not a gurantee. Especially when there is a 35 Million Dollar price tag to it. Parma is in no condition to make such an offer.
It will be a sad day when Parma falls down to Serie B. I really cannot imagine a season without the club playing hard against the likes of Juventus and Milan. If any of the relegation candidates can give the top Serie A clubs trouble, certainly it is Parma. I pray to God that they are able to ward off Bologna and stay in Serie A. We miss the Seven Sisters.
Since I have relatives from there and it was but a gnat's eyelash of luck that kept me from choosing Bologna over Milan as my team when I was nine and because the endless Lazio fan-like whining of Parma fans over the Rui Costa affair really annoyed me, all I can say is, GO BOLOGNA!
Tbh, i wish neither of them got relegated.I just see them as teams which give special `taste` to the entire serie a competition. On one hand,i always `liked` Parma because they always seemed to have so many young talented players and were(at least in the past) more courageous and prolific. On the other hand,Bologna is also not to be underrated. If nothing they`ve got better and more successful history than Parma.(i mean scudetto wise, even though they won it for the last time in 1963/64)Plus, i`ve got an acquaintance playing over there( actually my ex bf`s neighbour ,who isn`t really playing to be honest....just warming the bench, even if that!:D) so i`m totally puzzled...
You know what....i wish Viola were playing one of these and then got relegated,i never liked them. :lazy:
we need an attacker who scores vs. small teams
what you said makes no sense, i am sorry. We need a striker who
1) will not choke in the big games (ex: totti)
2) has big game experience (ex: shevchenko)
3) is not a once season wonder (ex: silenzi - remember him? didn't think so)
Inzaghi, JDT, Crespo and shevchenko can all score against the smaller teams. That's not why we lost against Messina, Siena and tied to Brescia. Our poor results were because of other reasons discussed in various other threads here.
gila is a striker with great flair - i admit. But after his all-talk-but-no walk approach to the Juve game, i have no respect for him. he can go to chelsea, juve or wherever he wants. not milan please. same for totti. no milan for him either i hope.

Again I gotta agree with Nadir. I mean really guys.... What was this guys previous scoring record from earlier seasons??? You dont slap a $35 Million price tag on a one season wonder! He needs to develope a consistent record like all the greats have to impress me one bit. It took Sheva a couple of seasons or so in Dynamo in order to prove to the world he's worthy goods. Where and what has this guy done and come from! Even Adriano spent a good amount of seasons in Parma before anyone noticed him. To be honest he's not that impressive either! I also seem to remember a couple of seasons ago, some of youse was all "googoo" over Bernado Corradi! Boy what a sensation he's been at Valencia! Where are they at??? Somewhere mid-table and stuck with lemon.
I need to put it this way. Sheva and Crespo are something that have been shaped and honed into a sleek speedboat. They have over the years, proven their worth as multiple Capo cannoneri or damn close to it. Now you have this other vessel who has don amazing things for only one season that is more so a canoe than a speedboat albeit a very good canoe. I'm sure we could get this guy refined and shaped into the best damn speedboat around. But the fact remains he is still a canoe and you cant convince any business wise person to buy what is a canoe at a speedboat price!!! He is not worth that ridiculous amount of money!! I am more than willing to eat my words if I'm wrong! But I have to tell some of you people, with your sense of acumen, dont ever get into any kind of venture capital investments like the stock market. Because the purchase of something emerging doesnt come near the price of stock like shares of Microsoft! It's stupid business. This guys value is supposed to appreciate when he's with us and with a purchase of $35 Million, an untested investment like that will at best break us even or even flop and depreciate rapidly. No sir! Parma has no business to sell us this product at such a price. Let some other sucker buy this "le Car" at a Ferrari price!
FORZA MILAN!

Oh, come on, be honest with us - for how long you are saying you have been following Serie A?
The reason why Milan are so keen on Gila is namely because he is not a one-season wonder like Vucinic, for example. Last season Gila ended up having just one goal less than Sheva - 23 vs 24 - and that was achieved with Gila often being on the bench, while Adriano was still at Parma. He became their first choice striker only after Inter bought the Brazilian from Parma.
But even that wasn't enough for Milan or Juve and they decided to wait and see what the true value of the player would turn out to be - namely if he was a one-season wonder or he was someone capable of repeating his perfomance. Well, it turned out to be the latter and this is why he is on his way to Milan, right now.
The only thing that "worries" me abot Gila is that he scores on a regular basis vs smaller teams but his record vs teams like MIlan, Juve is far from impressive. However, ask yourself what would Sheva be like if he were to play for Parma, do you think his record vs Milan, Juve would be any different than "pathetic"? The reason is very simple - vs smaller teams Gila's rather average teammates can do the job and give him a decent amount of support in attack, however vs teams like Milan, the rest of the Parma team are literary "engulfed" by the opposition and Gila is left on his own upfront. After all, even great players need help from their teammates and can't do eveything on their own, and this is especially true vs big teams.

This is what I'm trying to say. Or the question that I have that makes me reserved at him coming to Milan... I dont think Gila is worth the amount of money we are being asked to pay. Obviously Mian knows this as well and may be negotiating with Parma about this. Probably why we havent sealed the deal yet and no one else is in on this either. I'm talking economics here. Yeah ok he's great. Better than Sheva???? Quite not! Yet we got Sheva at a winners deal. Gotta be on of our best deals at low prices ever! This is my gripe.

no but sheva is 29 in three months. Gilardino could be our future.
Sheva was our future and still is and the $$$ that we paid was justified. PLUS he did prove himself for some time in the CL with his goal prowess. Performance/justified price is the ratio that I'm using to explain this. What Parma is asking is nothing short of extortion.

There is a sharp difference between Sheva and Gilardino or Montella. Yes, they could have scored more than Sheva but the difference is how they score. Sheva can score the goal from anywhere. Inside, outside, freekick(especially see the goal against Lazio)... I think everyone got what i mean. Gilardino and Sheva cannot be compared. Only Adriano, maybe.

don't get me wrong. if gilardino joins milan and performs splendidly, nobody will be happier to eat his own words than me. I just don't think he is milan material yet. vucinic could join milan and then be loaned out to a club to hone his skills. if gilardino joins, he should be loaned out as well.
this is a discussion forum. if eveyrbody feels they are right, then there is no point in discussing. i will gladly admit i am wrong if he joins and scores 23 goals.

If anything Milan's rapport is quite good with Parma considering Ancelotti and Sacchi's 'tenure' at the club.
Whatever .. to each his own.

but in addition to asprilla, there is also the matter of parma not playing at all against juve thinking "we'll throw this juve game away but we can still stay afloat in serie A". that is looking unlikely now - i just hope they learn their lesson in the future. play all games as if it were your last :)

That is not really the PRIDE that these fans take in their team...they pride themselves on the fact that they never PLAYED in Serie B...not the 'relegation' itself.
Parma and Bresica..so the fact that they never went back down from A does not put them in the same status of teams that never went DOWN to B period.
Its not really an accomplishment at all..
On that note, Juve have finished in relegation ZONE twice in their history but thanks to some "backdoor" diplomacy managed to stay in the first division.
The first time they finished dead last and the next season the league decided to re-structure the league thus keeping Juve in A (it was not called A at the time but it was the modern day version).
The second time is a bit more IFFY..no real explanation on why they managed to stay in A...
Typical Juve.

yes they have, they beat Roma 2-0 in Rome and beat them again 1-0 in Milan.
Is it away goals in the relegation play-off ? Gilardino scored on the stroke of half-time to put Parma 2-0 away to Bologna.
So as it stands Bologna need to score to draw, but if it's away goals then they need to score twice. Could be the most vital goal Gilardino has scored for Parma !
Full-Time ... Parma are safe, Bologna are down.
Now give us Gilardino :D
