right then!!

seeing as theres a few members on here into this kind of music lets start a thread where we can talk about it, wheres the best parties, the best downloads, upcoming tracks etc....

i personally am into all types of house, techno and drum n bass.

artists include..MAW, carl cox, derrick carter, Mr C, darren emerson, jeff mills, ltj bukem, fat boy slim, sneak etc.... (basically good party music)

ive been to ibiza for a couple of seasons, festivals up and down the Uk, most big club nights in the Uk and i have a "fine" collection of mp3s.

best dj set ive seen was at space on the terrace in 2000. it was basement jaxx. they were awesome and then on the inside afterwards it was leftfield with paul daley...simply MAGIC!!!

lol the only artist i know of that list is Fatboyslim! :) im seeing Prodigy and the Chemical Brothers at V festival this year which should be great! :)

im not so much into the techno, and trance stuff. Im mainly into Funky and French house bands like:-Db boulevard, Roger Sanchez, Reflekt, modjo, Superman lovers, lil love, Gorillaz, daft punk, united nations.

at the moe i think these tracks are some of the best houses themes out. Plus there music videos are lets say fun :) lol

lil love- little love
united nations- you and me
Thomas Falke - High again.
Max Graham v.s. yes- owner of a lonely heart
Roger Sanchez- another Chance (classic brilliant house song)

well matnat, you found your soulmate here lol. I am a huge trance, house and prog house fan. I like some IDM too like boards of Canada (but most IDM is crap). I am not a fan of dnb. i love the ASOT radio show by armin van buuren, and off late there have been some great trance singles out therel from Rachel Starr, Mathew Dekay, Niklas Harding, way out west, and Gabriel & Dresden have really exploded in their niche.

let me know if you wanna talk trance ;)

not too much into basement jaxx kinda music cus it's very close to rnb/hiphop, which i am not a big fan of.

right now, i am all over deep dish (their new album is just awesome) and live sets by gabriel/dresden, armin van buuren, niklas harding, dave seaman, nick warren...those are my flavours of the month. and i am proud to say Max Graham is from Ottawa ;)

oh and don't forget the one and only, MARKUS SCHULZ.

mr c - ex shamen? he's still alive? lol. i loved the shamen.

ltj bukem are very melodic dnb. very good.

fatboy slim - don't like him. too much house for me. i liked dub be good to me though :D

well a few people have posted and for a moment i thought i`d be on my own..LOL!!

to mk18....get with the times OR are you showing our age with your love for rock music? :d6:

greame c.....i`m into alot of funky house (im surprised you havent heard of MAW?), i like db boulevard..but they tend to be more mainstream dance right? do you like bob sinclair etc...? or what about the french house label "distance"? i listen to daft punk fav track being voyager...i`m into french house so talk more graeme so i can understand exactly where your coming from. the prodigy should be awesome, ive never seen then live although i did buy there first album weather experience and one of my favourite tracks of all time was "charlie" by them.

nadir..like AC Milan you`ve chose well!!! i know the scene canada is still growing and have heard that drum and bass is really big over there, i do have an excellent fabric cd by a dj u might know called Tyler Stadius. i like his sound alot.
Trance was really big in the UK a few years back..i use to listen to alot of stuff by paul okanefold, my favourite trance track has to be william orbits "Barbers adajio for strings". i do have some sets by way out west and deep dish. i got alot of house music, you probably have heard of "sasha and digweed"? i got alot of stuff by them.as fro the jaxx there sound keeps changing and i`m not into the sound there playing now, however you should listen to some of there dj sets there miles better. yeah that is Mr C of the shamen, hes turned out to be a really good DJ, kind of acid/tech house..really good though. ill check out the ASOT radio show..as for a british music website..i`d head to BBC radio 1 and go to there dance section. theres loads of online mixes, news and charts.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/dance/index.shtml?hp_lhn

:5130:

also check out a webstie called "livesets.com" , register (costs nothing) there, go to the forums and you can download for free loads of mixes by all the famous djs, its really good.

do any of you use P2P networks?

rock still is the most popular genre of music... i cant understand how u listen to this kinda music (techno stuff: i believe house and trance come under the same category) ... its irritiating... in rock u have everything, u can listen to wild things when ur excited like metallica, u can listen to relaxing things when ur relaxed like the doors for example, u can listen to love songs when ... ur in love like guns n roses bon jovi and aerosmith... and so much more....

with ur **** music its the same annoying thing... that beat they use, its always there... its irritiating, as if some1 keeps poking u on ur head...

anyways its a matter of taste... only my taste is much better :5guitar:

Thank God for this thread! :5ok: Or thank Matnat:D
I`m into house mostly, but i can handle techno and drum and base as well.I do like rock and pop too i have to admit.Anyway, since you`ve mentioned Carl Cox,Fatboy and Darren,i`ve been listening to them a lot and this year they have all been to Exit festival in Serbia(long time ago i wrote about it here but nobody cared too much:D).Carl Cox was amazing,Darren too.Jeff Mills was here several times already. I don`t know if you`ve heard of Sandy Rivera,Tom Stephan aka Superchumbo,Sasha,Marky & Patife(Brasil) Joris Voorn(Holland),Fabio & Bailey and MC Rage,Annie Mac(all coming from UK`s BBC Radio 1) but they are quite good.I met them all personally since i`ve worked at the press centre as a translator. They are really great guys.Carl Cox is not a man...he`s a mountain!!!!:D His performance vistited over 30 thousand people this year.It was GREAT!
The thing is....exit festival takes place at the fortress and has over 25 stages. The biggest and most visited stage apart from Main Stage is Dance Arena, the biggest dance arena in the Eastern Europe, and that`s where these guys played.
If you`re interested check out www.exitfest.org
You`ll find some pictures and articles over there as well.Every year loads of British people come here so i don`t know if you`ve heard about it.
Great thread:proud:
P.S.
when Giovanni pops in i`m sure he`ll love this thread too, becuase he`s into these stuff as well :)

A few of my favourite online stations are
http://www.puredj.com/ and http://somafm.com/ and by far Soma FM is my all time favourite.

I will check out livesets.

MATNAT:
of course i have heard of Sasha and Digweed. Who hasn't lol. Their Northern Exposures albums are legendary. However, I have totally phased out of their brand of house music. I really prefer the Nick Warren and Dave Seaman kinda of prog house. Nick Warren has a new Global Underground album out GU: Shanghai which is just breathtaking. Sasha's new album Fundacion is no match for his earlier "GU: Involver" or the excellent "airdrawndagger". Highly recommend Shanghai.

I am not entirely sure as to what is popular in Canada at the moment. Canada is a big country you know lol. In Ottawa, two years ago we had the Sasha/digweed craze. Last year we had the Armin Van Buuren craze. This year it seems to be more house. Tastes change I suppose. Either way, I was never into dnb except for the bukem.
as for paul oakie - can't stand him. he's for 12 year old wannabe djs :)

ariel:
the only person i have heard of is benny benassi and he's alright. not a big fan. this thread is awesome.

mk18:
if you don't like the music, no need to criticise it. keep an open mind. i used to be a hard rock/heavy metaller and i liked the kinda music you currently like now. i was big into bands like faith no more, testament, slayer, skid row, metallica and gnr, soundgarden, anthrax, and i used to listen to thin lizzy, the doors, led zeppelin and i acknowledge that these are legends in their own right. I still listen to them now and then depending on my mood. The only metal i seem to listen to now sometimes is "All that Remains" and recently i had listened to Kreator's new album. I know that if i was 7 years younger, I would have been all over those two albums but my tastes have mellowed out. However, I am not so closed minded as to reject any good music outright :) Anyway, respect the tastes of your Milan brothers.

look im not critisizing ur music or anything... but alot of my friends like it and it just cannot cross my head how people can like it... u have ur own opinion, who am i to change it right??.. to be honest i couldnt care less what u listen to... but im just asking what is it that makes u guys like this music... personally i like my music because it more glamorous, more under the light and mainly more legendary (i have an obsession with legendary people and things) ... i love their lifestyle, i love the instruments they use, i love the personality... theyre just cool! ... for the record i hate the new rock and i hate death metal.. could u explain to me why u like this kind of music and these DJs??? ... there must be an extra some that makes this thread 'so great'

i wish i could say it's an acquired taste but it's not even that. Trance is very very popular worldwide. It's just not played on the radio that much. You probably would like it if you listened to the right stuff. we are obviously not talking about 2 unlimited here lol. we are talking about dj's who are good at what they do, just as slash is good at what he does.

why do i like the music? because it's ambient and omnipresent at the same time. it's high energy and relaxing. i don't like it for their lifestyle lol. i don't care for the people who produce these tracks nor do i care for the personal lives of these DJ's. they are not tabloid, rock magazine heroes like Axl Rose was. A wonderful quality about most of these Dj's is, no matter how BIG they get, they will still answer an email, and you can probably call them on the phone and talk to them without having to go through 2000 PR people. They will help up and coming talent get exposed by mixing in one of their tracks into their sets.
as for their instruments, some people love them for that too, but not me. i don't care what equipment they use. :) someday when i become a dj i will lol

thats cool ariel!! i actually listened to annie mac on radio 1 from the exit festival and managed to catch felix da housecats set...he was rocking!!

ive heard and like all the artists youve mentioned and your right about COX he is the daddY!! lol

as for junior jack im currently downlaoding a mix of his from livesets.com, he played at pacha in london a few weeks ago :bri:

heres the link (right click and scroll down to "save as") voila!!

http://www.livesets.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=64283

hey nadir you like somafm...you must like the duo slam? there really good, i have a few of those global underground mp3s from the likes of digweed, sasha and emerson..

here is the link for the trance section of livesets, check it out as theres a few mixes by armin van burren

http://www.livesets.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=34

and to mk18 the reason why i like this music is because there is such diverse types of house music. from the soulful, jazzy, sophisticated sound of MAW, to the evil loops of jeff mills, to the all out madness of a fatboy slim or darren emerson set (you should check out his NYE set on Bondi beach 2002, one of the best sets ive ever heard).. its all about the banter with house music, from the initial party to the afterparty it can sometimes go on for days its a bit like starring in your own "Benny Hill" show... :uhm:

p.s. does anyone know how to "zip" music sets and compress them to half the size (i can do it but it seems to reduce the file by only a few kiobytes)?

and does anyone know any site where by i can host sets/files for free download?

ariel

Cox did an amazing mix of The White Stripes` `Seven nation army`.....that was something speacial to witness, especially when you wait for sunrise by listening to Cox.

As for Annie Mac, i didn`t manage to listen to her performance because i was listening to someone else at that moment....i mean there are 25 stages....you can`t make it all!!:D What impressed me most was how cool and relaxed were all of these people.I thought they`d be big headed and arrogant but they were just great. On another note, Sandy Rivera and Tom Stephan are also hot:D
For the first time i was listening to Felix da Housecat,Cristian Varela(Spain),Valentino Kanzyani(Slovenia),Danny Howells(another Brighton-er),Bodyrockers and they have all left a great impression on the audience. Unfortunately Dave Clarke cancelled due to attacks in London which happened on the Exit`s opening day(which was when he was supposed to perform).
Oh yes,Nitin Sawhney is someone i can`t forget to mention. If anyone has seen Monsune Wedding movie by Mira Nair then you know who i`m talking about, since he did the soundtrack.Respect!

Oh btw Matnat, thanks a lot for Junior Jack link :)

mp3's are already compressed. They won't compress any further. Hence, even if you use WinRar (www.rarlabs.com) or winzip, it won't make a difference. Just like jpegs - you can't zip them because they are already a compressed file format.

you can't legally host mp3's for free downloads unless you set up your own webserver. however if copyright laws are infringed and your country is picky about that, they will hunt you down and close it down.

if you want your friends to download certain mp3's, create an FTP server where your friends can log into it and download what they want.
or use a p2p program like Soulseek.

ok that nice... oh by the way, what i dont like about ur music is that u can hardly sing-along with it... i just cant have fun when lsning to it, i love to sing out loud... i love the oooooooooooooooooooooooohh's of axl rose and the yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah of steven tyler ...etc ... in ur kinda music there arent any lyrics, and its just this annoying biatch singing in the backround (thats my opinion) .. i respect u opinion, but i still think rock as far better and besides its the genre that respresents music the most :delol:

first of all there are hardly any vocals in trance music. very rarely do you have vocals. so you have a totally false impression of trance.

secondly, some people (including myself) consider axl rose and steven tyler annoying bitches.

3 Scott Mac - Damager
4 Deep Dish - Dreams feat Stevie Nicks
5 Armin Van Buuren - SHIVERS (thought i liked it, then i hated it and now i love it again!!!)

hey nadir i`m going to put those track names into soulseek and check them out.

i can`t get enough of a record from about 3 years ago by a house dj called ian pooley. its called 900 degrees and its an absolute hum-dinger of a hosue track

:w155:

as for my favourite current tracks here goes...

1. Sara Devine - "special (louie vega mix)" - perfect soulful, sexy house for the summer, louie vega is one half of the masters at work and this is just sublime.

2. Reel People feat. Jag - "second guess (grant nelson remix)" - again another perfect summer, soulful record with cool vocals. Magic.

3. Ian pooley - "900 degrees (TM cosmos club mix)" - absoulte rockin house record. this single sums up everything thats good about house music, from the drum patterns, to the breakdown to the sound effects, guranteed to move your ass. Perfect.

4. Roy Ayers - " Holiday (kenny dope remix)" - released this summer by jazz legend roy ayers. this track has been remixed by the other half of masters at work (aka MAW), kenny dope. Brilliant jazz infused hosue music from the xylophone stabs to the haunting femal vocal crying out "holiday", come to think of it i could do with a holiday..LOL!!

5. The Deep - "Dom Tom" - anyone that listenend to the Bob Sinclair essential mix a few weeks back will rememeber this as the last track that he played. Wicked african, tribal hosue music with a hypnotic, rhythmic chant. Wonderful.

:w221:

enjoy your holiday ariel, to all the rest of you (and judging by the millions that read and comment this thread...erm thats just you then nadir!!) throw some tracks at me as i could do with listening to some new stuff!!

:p017:

as you can tell, most of my faves are not house but all-out trance music :) i will look for ian pooley. if you like house a lot, deep dish - yoshiesque would be to your liking.

i try to listen to as many Global Dj Broadcast sessions from www.di.fm and A state of trance by armin van buuren - you get the best of the latest from those shows.

and that infusion track i posted is very catchy :) will post more as i bump into good new tracks.

ariel - all the best you lucky bas........ :devf:

i checked out some of those tracks..i really like the infusion record but only the infusion remix, reminded me of something sasha would play in one of his sets.

that deep dish record reminded me of either the bangles or a belinda carlisle record..right?

p.s. andir..i see you like chilled out stuff..look for a track by..

"lazybatusu - keep on keeping on"

i think you`ll like it

it's Stevie Nicks on vocals. She was the vocalist for Fleetwood Mac. i love her voice and the special thing about that track is that it wasn't a remix. She actually sang a new version FOR deep dish :)

as for the infusion track - nick warren played it on one of his sets at Flex. I am not sure what mix it was but it was awesome. Infusion are Australian and off late i've realised a lot of good trance records come from Australia. Remember Phil K - Breaks From Australia (DJ World Series)?

you must have that sasha and digweed cd called "communicate"? a classic!!

the kind of trance i like is the sasha type, stuff like paul van dyke etc..are too cheery (if you know what i mean), sashas stuuf is dark, twisted (if you know what i mean)...

do you like danny tenaglia?

also phil k..thats not phil kieran from belfast who produced the bomb?

Paul van Dyk is pure old school trance. Sasha is progressive house. I have heard communicate and it is good, but the kind of music is like is in the vein of Max Graham, Markus Schulz, Armin. If you like Sasha, you HAD to have heard Involver and airdrawndagger.

If you like dark house/trance, you will absolutely absolutely love Steve Lawler. Check out his Global Underground Lights Out and Lights Out 2. Very sexy dark house. Not my style at all though :)

as for Phil K: http://www.discogs.com/release/150328 and it is Phil Krokidis :)

Another track that I have loved since i first heard it on ASOT is Mathew Dekay - Digifruitella. AWESOME track.

i know what psy trance is. it's also known as Goa. there are psy trance/goa parties here in the woods all the time lol. i listen to psy trance as well now and then like hallucinogen, ott, senso sento. the best psy trance album i have ever heard of has to be In Dub - Hallucinogen (mixed by Ott). There's a track called LSD that is pure hypnosis.

i wouldn't call psy trance "harder" than mainstream trance - it is just different. hard trance is in a world of it's own and i despise it - aka gabber.

Track of the week:
Wall of Sound - Armin Van Buuren feat Justine Suissa (from the Shivers single).

Reason why this is my track of the week is Justine Suissa's AWESOME AWESOME VOICE.

hey khris that psy-trance was a bit too hard for me, if i was unconscious i may like it. (but please don take this as a view not to post more of your suggestions!!) :w186:

nadir, in the uk sasha is known as a trance dj but then again his style does sound like progressive house at times. ive got loads of steve lawler stuff, did you hear his last essential mix a couple of weeks ago? do you want it? it was more electro than prog house that lawler use to play it included the new record by "Peter Katafalk - Pacific 202" which is a remix of that old classic by 808 state (have you heard of them and there legendary pacific single?), absolutely brilliant. i`m going to check out your current fav by armin (not really listened to anything at great length by him but ill give it a try!!)

so my current fav is the new release by "peter katafalk - pacific 202 (bellone remix)"
just a dreamy track to carry you along for the summer.....

comparing sasha's version of "trance" to the dutch/german/belgian trance, it is very different. I would say the closes Sasha came to trance was his brilliant airdrawndagger CD. His "Involver" CD was boredline trance. The second track actually from psy-trance masters Shpongle. But other than that, I would not classify Sasha as trance.

If I thought "trance", I would be thinking Gabriel & Dresden, Markus Schulz, Max Graham, Above & Beyond, Armin van Buuren, Rank 1, Airwave, Hammer & Bennett etc. :)

I noticed Deep Dish are sliding towards the trance genre with their brilliant track "say hello". Awesome, awesome duo - never know what to expect from Ali / Sharam.

Keep this thread going people.

MATNAT: i am surprised you don't listen to A State of Trance on di.fm. or just dl it from somewhere. there are infiinite places to get the show.

another track you should try to find - Paul Van Dyk feat Wayne Jackson - The Other Side

I see you lads are discussing about stuff which has nothing related with music. A real concept of the music...

Just give me appropriate software, some money and famous producer to start my DJ career. And I vow that I become a world famous star os such kind of "music". It is so easy... Anyone who has good ear and feels beat can do that. This music do not asks too many skills and creativity.

Anyway, I do not intented to hurt or offend anyone. It is just my point of view ;)

you need a famous producer? here's the thing, most of these dj's are their own producers. secondly, the best ones write their own breaks and very rarely sample like hip hop dj's do. but if you can do better than what is out there right now, i would love to hear your work and I am sure I would love it :)

i have never been to this club but i read that it is usually frequented by people who have no clue about the music. for instance, you will see 45 year olds in leisure suits at the bar, and guy who have no interest in the music but are just there for the girls. i think the set is gonna be wasted on the crowd. armin and markus should come to ottawa where we really know how to appreciate them ;)

as for clubs in london i reckon theres 3 main clubs you should try and check out if your there and in no particular order....

ministry of sound is an awesome club. it is most popular for US house with djs such as MAW, Todd Terry, defected parties etc....
i went there once and there are 3 rooms. the main room, bar room and back room. the main room is like a giant sphere/doughnut, what that means is that the sound resonates perfectly with no loss in sound or quality so that no matter where you are in that room you hear the sound perfectly. when you stand in the middle you can literally feel the bassline go right through you.
the bar room is a great little area where a dj spins too, more uptempo us house is played here and by the end of the night the girls behind the bar are dancing on the tables...serious eye candy in this place too.
the back room is a small chill out room....

http://www.ministryofsound.com/home/

the next club is extremely famous as an underground club. its owned by ex-shamen front man and tech hosue dj Mr C and with Layo (one half of layo and bushwacka).. the club host parties for, obviously Mr c and layo and bushwackas nights as well as darren emersons underwater parties, steve lawlers harlem night and always gets in big names such as green velvet, derrick carter etc.... you also get drum and bass from the likes of andy C and ltj bukem.
i haven`t been to the end but the next time i`m in london ill definitely check it out.

http://www.endclub.com/news/index.php

the final club i`d recommend is fabric. this is a wicked tech-house, breaks, techno club and drum n bass. in fact some would say the it has the best sound system in britain. Tyrant (craig richards & lee burridge) host a night here as do djs such as terry francis, slam, dave clark, richie hawtin, adam freeland, dj heather, carl craig etc... fabio and grooverider also host parties here. again another top notch venue

http://www.fabriclondon.com/

basically if you ever go to london at anytime these venues are open, i can guarantee you that you`ll have a good night as they are the best establishments for quality music.

there are other nights in london, X-Press 2, fc kahuna etc... but these are at venues where they maybe good on saturday but come tuesday or wednesday they wont be as good.

by sticking with ministry, the end and fabric, the crowd, the people and the music is the best.

Of course,i like the music for the music too but i reckon that videos can sometimes contribute to a more complete feeling when listening to a song.At least if you`re watching it from a creative, artistic point of view. There`s something special about it for me.If you see what i mean. :)

ariel, i havent see to many vidoes by artists but i have seen videos mixed in tune with the music live.

the festival was creamfields and we chilled out in this hip-hop tent and a very famous duo called "coldcut" were playing. they were mixing and scratching the music as well as the video. it was one of the funkiest things ive ever seen at a festival and was blown away by how good they were.

i dont know if you`ve seen or heard of coldcut but if you like that type of thing you should check them out.

was watching a video of Paul van Dyk live @ Dance Valley 08-06-2005. His set started late in the evening and the sun was still up, so his set looked pretty lame. The people weren't even dancing - just standing around. His first few tracks were pretty mediocre (as u can tell from the tracklist below). It started to get dark around the time he started playing Marco V's first' track. And then came the light show...wow.
And then BANG - the whole place exploded as he kept pumping out some real explosive tracks. Closing with some real crowd favourites, he really made it a special night for that crowd.

I always held pvd in high regard when it comes to his concerts and i always thought that the livesets I heard were just good but didn't think all his sets were this insanely awesome. But this video really cemented my view that PVD is the master of trance in many regards - as he really knows how to match the enthusiasm of the crowd and get a crowd that is dead into a frenzy. awesome set.

Tracklist:

hey folks ive just managed to get hold of an absolute monster set from erick morillo thats 6hrs 58min 11sec long!!

the set in question is supposedly recorded on the 25th august 2004 at pacha, ibiza

it featured erick morillo, jose nunez & a live pa from shawnee taylor at around 3hrs 50mins...

does anyone have or know where i can get the set id for this ?

also have a look at the cream fields festival this year..

http://www.cream.co.uk/creamfields/

i`m absolutely gutted that i`m going to miss it, highlights for me include basement jaxx, emerson, yousef, fat boy slim, layo and bushwacka, morillo, roni size, andy c and felix da housecat.. i`m sure you`d like it ariel

i think you`d like the cream tent nadir with van dyke and van burren....

just soooooooooooo gutted i`m going to miss it this year!!

speaking of live videos nadir i remember my friend recording carl cox spinning 3 decks at cafe mambo, ibiza the place went nuts, lol.
the guy seriously knows how to "rock" a party & wherever he plays he never seems to disappoint.

as for that deep dish mix, i take it you listened to radio 1 then?! i listened to laurnet garnier before dep dish and he played a classic track called "sabres of paradise - smokebelch II" it was an acidy version and when he dropped it the crowd on the space terrace went crazy. the deep dish set was really good and i loved it when they mixed in "status quo money for nothing".

and does anyone know any site where by i can host sets/files for free download?

mate i've opened for the first time this thread and i want to make a present for the HOUSE lovers, especially the most sophisticated ones

I'm an amatorial dj, my studies require too time to get into the djiing more seriously unluckily, but who knows about the future?

This site contains all the classical dj sets of the greatest djs in the house music movement, starting from the Godfather Frankie Knuckles to Tony Humphries, to Louie Vega and Ralphie Rosario, to Kenny Carpenter and Ron Hardy, one of the founders of the house music, maybe less famous but still a great dj. The oldest stuff sound a bit old but still great, and the more recent ones should be amazing. I say "should" because the mixes are soooo many that i've downloaded a few so far..check it out and see how many they are.

This site is a gold mine. http://www.deephousepage.com
Cheers

I forgot to mention one of the best djs of the new generation for his pure quality aka MR. DIMITRI FROM PARIS..i've just bought his cd IN THE HOUSE-DEFECTED prod. and it's absolutely value.

I'm interested in that mix live at M & S of the 1998 if i remeber well, MatNat..

I think the link i gave you may have problems today, yesterday it worked perfectly

wow nice to have you join us Giovanni.

Not many trance fans here I see. It's mostly house that's got Milanmaniacs all hot and bothered hehe. The only house DJ's I listen to now is Deep Dish but that's just because their style has moved more towards prog house and trance.

All you house fans, do you like the hed kandi series of albums. I really like their chill out collections but there are some house albums that you guys might love. www.hedkandi.com

the best chillout productions are Buddha Bar IMO, but i'm not that expert in that area.

I don't like just house, i've got loads of techno records and some drumnbass ones, such as congonatty or souljah( raggajungle) and a classic like Dj Zinc's SUPER SHARP SHOOTER_ganja records

does anyone know the Spiral Tribe?

the style i like the most is soulful classic house though
My target is to play CLUB/HOUSE CLASSICS one day

The first (and so far only time) i went to Ministry of Sound in the smallest room two djs played club classics and it was a delight!!!
One was a blond girl called Tula and she was very good at mixing, i loved her tricks with the crossfader, then i saw her into a Dido video playing the turntables

>the François K mix (half an hour) starts very calmly and without flavour but after 7 minutes takes the dancefloor by storm.

I like the soulful classics because they have flavour and respect the real essence of House music's roots..the newest things are too focused on making people rocking and dancing, but don't have the same flavour. They make the body move, but don't feed the brain (spaghetti english :D )

the La Roca series by Nacho Sotomayor excel in terms of chillout albums. Really really really really well done that will transport you to an island somewhere staring at a sunset with a lover next to you in about 2 seconds of turning it on. do a search for the name Nacho Sotomayour on amazon.com to find his discography.

if you like francois k then you should check out his "Body n Soul" cds. for those that don`t know , Body n Soul was a club night of francois' in new york.

he did 4 cds with artists like joe claussell and danny krivit.

have u heard of francois k`s "awakening" possibyl one of my favourite tracks of all time, kind of latin, soulful orchestrated house with violins etc... released a couple of years ago on wave recordings (francois k`s label).

i dont know too much about chiilout stuff but i have heard of hed kandi material which is very good.
if you like that stuff but want to listen to more up-to-date soulful house records that aren`t as commercialised (and IMO alot more soulful, smooth and cooler than the original hed kandi material) then you should check out hed kandi`s off shoot label called "stereo sushi".

as for drum n bass..i`ve heard of that dj zinc record (i`m right in thinking theres a bloke that keep sayings "super..sharp...shooter..shooter"...? in the track), i tend to listen to alot of the mellow, tripy drum n bass by ltj bukem but then again i like the stuff by roni size, goldie and andy c..if it makes me move then i like it!!

i've watched Prodigy live in Torino in the 1997. That was an unbelievable moment. The concert was amazing..i eventually met them outside the arena, they were leaving the drome in a mini bus from a protected gate, while i was going with my friends to a friend of mine's home and found their minibus at the gate. When i realised i had them face to face i went crazy.

Pretty much the same happened to me with Underworld. It`s just that they were on foot cos they couldn`t make it thorugh the crowd so they had to take the other path to the stage.I have a feeling i looked like an idiot when i realized it was them,my mouth and eyes wide open....jeez :D

get free membership at the site first and use a bittorrent client to dl :) enjoy.

I haven't listened to the Prodigy in a LOOOONG time (after the Fat of Land album I kinda got bored of them) and listening to this live set, it sounds like they've become an industrial metal band like Filter, Stabbing Westward, NIN and Ministry.
What happened to them? They are nothing like they were back during the Experience when they came out with Charly :)

Still, good for people who like hard trance/gabber I guess.

im not sure what really happened to the prodigy, i didnt buy the new album because i only really liked "girl" from it. Fat of the land is a wicked album. Its kinda weird that out of all the bands at V festival, the prodigy was the only local band there :)

I thought the chemical brothers were really good 2, they had a massive plasma screen behind them, and had a lazer and lightshow which went with the music. I escaped oasis to see the chemical brothers :)

Giovanni
22-08-2005, 10:27
something like that happened at Glastonbury in the 1997 or something..thousand persons watching the oasis live, then on an another stage the prodigy start their sound and you see 3/4 of the oasis public literally running and getting over gates to attend the prodigy concert..that's in their biography

Nadir
22-08-2005, 16:12
The only two prodigy albums i liked were their first and second ones - the Experience and Music for the jilted generation. Fat of the land was when they started being courted by metal bands and bands like Fear Factory started trying to sound like them. It was around this period that even Metallica came out with an electronically remixed version of their (Crap) album Load called Reload. So Prodigy never left that industrial genre they fell into when it became popular. They even made the cover of Kerrrang magazine and that's a metal mag lol.

would i be caught dead listening to a prodigy album today? hell no :)

(would i be listening to them when everyone is asleep and nobody would know? maybe)

i love that song too. it's a classic but i never got into other depeche mode songs though.

other things i like other than what we are discussing here (and i don't really like dnb very much) are

dubstar (is this considered dance music?)

japanese pop band pizzicato five (check out their Made in America album - STYLISH AS HELL)
Mr Oizo - Analog Worms Attack (analng electronic music. have to hear it to love it ;) )
Boards of Canada - the best IDM music on the planet.
A-ha (yes, the 80's swedish pop group still has some air time on my mp3 player)
Nils Petter Molvaer (Jazz? Trip hop? dance? who knows. on the ECM label which releases chamber jazz usually but his album Khmer is very hard to categorize. Check it out)
Massive Attack
Some old metal/hard rock bands like Skid Row, Faith no More etc
and turning back to electronic music, really downtempo grooves like Pete Rock, Babble, Moss etc.
the Dandy Warhols

appreciate the comment on the avatar :)

omg i love Golden Brown. That song is a classic. When I was younger, it had lots of air time in my car :)

Massive Attack are the most politically charged electro-genre band out there with the most to say in the most taleneted way. I mean, they don't have an album that is bad. Every sone on EVERY album is either good or a classic lol.

we have very similar tastes in music. it's kinda weird cus i love those songs too - ordinary world and come undone. i always confuse the two though cus they came out during their resurgence in the 90's.

Track of the week *(you lazy bums - keep this thread alive!)*
I've heard a LOT of good tracks this week, watched a video of Armin Van Buuren play Sensations White where he played some killer tunes, some of which could have been tunes of the week. But then I heard something by the legendary Paul van Dyk - which blew everything away and made me realise why he is who he is -

Tune of the week
Seven Ways - Paul van Dyk.

If you haven't heard this track, hunt it down and listen !!

Have you guys seen "It's all gone Pete Tong" ? It's a very touching movie and I encourage everyone of you guys, esp in the people who visit this thread, to get the DVD :) I just watched it last night. You enjoy it a little bit more if you know about beat matching/mixing but ignorance about trance music will not affect your enjoyment of this movie one bit.

Warning though for those sensitive to these topics - shows heavy drug use, some nudity.

hey people i`m listening to alot of soulful house sung be the awesome "stephanie cook" and in particular her "everything" track re-mixed by "95 North Jersey deep"...

shes got a pheneomenal voice..any one in to us style house should listen to a few of her records... :nail:

oh and ariel remember when i said i`d find out around the september whether or not i`d be able to make it to the exit festival well ive just found out that i`m going to study medicine in Brno, czech republic!!! :w155:

so i was wondering how far is Brno from the exit festival by train or plane (Brno has its own airport) and can you reccommend any good club nights in Brno?! i know vienna is also one hour and a half away from me...so any tips/info you can give me on club land in this surrounding area of europe would be greatly appreciated!!!

p.s im listening to alot of music by Miguel MIgs at the moment especially his DNA lounge sessions from San Francisco...awesome!!

ariel

Oh that`s cool Mat.Congratulations first of all. So,you`re easily going to make it for the Exit festival since Brno could be just couple of hours away from Novi Sad.(by a car)I don`t really remember how many, but i remember that we went from Novi Sad,over Budapest(Hungary) to Bratislava (Slovakia)and then Prague and it didn`t last too long.I think you can look it all up on the Internet. As for Exit festival itself, when the time comes you can ask me about anything and also count on my help.
I`ve only passed through Brno so i can`t really recommend any clubs but i can say it`s just an amazing city.Nonetheless,Prague is magnificient and when i was there last time(3 years ago) it was full of clubs.I remember one club we went to,with awesome house music.I don`t remember its name but the builiding itself was made in several levels/floors.....really cool.I don`t know if it still exists though. You can look it all up on the Internet i`m pretty sure.
Btw,if you take a plane, the flight would last 2 hours MAX,even less, but in that case you`d have to go to Belgrade to the airport since there is no airport in Novi Sad.However,Novi Sad is an hour and 15 minutes drive from Belgrade.(you can take a bus, train, even a cab) and just follow the crowd and voila...you`re at Exit;)

hey guys!! how is everyone?
why hasn`t anyone posted since september, LOL! :whie:

ive only just managed to get wireless internet access in my room, out in here in brno and no one speaks a word of english (apart from the students) i might as well be in a foreign country, no wait a minute i am..LOL!!

people here are really friendly and the course is wicked. the beer is cheap (most pints are £0.75 consider london where it averages £2.00 and the food is really cheap too, chicken chow mein for £1.25!!!).
and fellas the women are nice.... :w262:

as for club nights etc, theres a good techno club featuring the likes of mistress barbara and oliver lieb, another locally run house night as well as a couple of funky bars that play house music. however we`ve been told of an underground warehouse party thats packed to the rafters a few miles outside of the city and is always banging..so will defo check that out in the next few months. im also going travelling to bratislava and budapest. i know of one club in budapest called face but thats about it, does anyone know any decent cubs in bratislava? (wait a minute i just found out about nu spirit bar formerly known a s buddha bar and for any of you who know your soulful house music kyoto jazz massive from japan are playing there in 2 weeks time..*whooooo*) :gonova:

ive seen football here and there and have to admit im disappointed with the start to the season, i mean we all new juve were good but to be top by 5 points and unbeaten it seems capello is in his element over there. still there is a long way to go but i still do think that we miss something collectively when defending. full marks to lippi though, hes doing an awesome job with the azzurri and im optomistic for germany 2006.

anyways im off to a biophysics practical (aka ultra dull..lol), currently listening to a lot of tech house by dave mothersole and am also checking out a recent mix by silicone soul recorded live at kristal club, bucharest..

hasta luego amigos.... :2dri:

I recommed all electronic music lovers to download these sets cause they are practically unfindable, if now with many researchs and knowing many underground sites. This stuff comes directly from the rave scene, started in early 90 from a bunch of British artists who started to travell across Europe and then the world, throwing illegal parties and producing live music for free almost everywhere. They joined across the travels other artists and formed the Spiral Tribe crew, also know as NETWORK 23 or SP23.

I like house music, even though by late there's too much around , but from a mixing dj point of view techno is more creative and exciting to mix..

I've seen great house djs that were nowhere near some unknown technoc djs from technical point of view, the techno mixing (and drumnbass one) is quicker and allows you much more options..

Nonetheless i have at least 70 house classic vynils (many bought in UK)

House Music seems to be bigger in Uk for some reason, what i love about dance, house, techno is that even though the songs are mostly in english it almost doesnt matter because the beat is stronger than the lyrics..

One of my fav bands is the Prodigy (local band), and i am just amazed that liam did most of the songs in his bedroom with the program Reason... Ive played with the program and it is well confusing lol!

you got your own decks then Giovanni?

Giovanni
22-05-2006, 04:05
yes, mate

i'm a big prodigy fan too, i red books on them and attended an unforgettable concert down in 1997..
since there i began a big fan or electronic music and strated to interest myself into creating electronic music..but at the time i could afford any of the digital machines

right now i have a dj desk with technics 1210 turntables and an ecler mixer

Liam didn't start with Reason, he started with analogical machines such as Moog Prodigy , a very old sinth that gave them that dirty sound and the band name..in middle 90 he started to create music with softwares and mostly cubase

everyone choose his fav set, many prefer the pc programs such as reason or reaktor, many other the analogical sound with drummachines , grooveboxes (for beginners) and sinths..the only thing for sure is that you have to spend loads of moneys before you find your ideal set but the fun is great

before getting into making my own music i wanna get perfect with mixing techniques.then you have the background to make live sets , but the ideas are the 70%..the rest is programming and technique

Giovanni
22-05-2006, 04:08
lol thats too hardcore for me :devf:
:bri:

well technically it's not hardcore..it's acid hardtekno

sorry to be a bit fussy but it's because i don't like hardcore (more synthetic and faster) either.
The difference is that hardtekno is slower and more dirty..it is closer to Prodigy stuff than Hardcore Gabba..many hardtek djs remix live some of the Prodigy stuff very well

I was listening to this mix (http://www.djgregghoras.com/tribalpromo.mp3) a lot lately. The only problem is it's not downloadable anymore. Too bad, I was so much looking forward to sharing it with everybody.

Anyways, I noticed something a couple of days ago and that is music just got slow for me. It hit me from the sky. What is this? How can I be listening to music that is slow? I listened to some of my favourite mixes and figured out that none of them are as fast as I'd like them to be. That's what I found in the above mix. It's not slow, not fast but not slow. And it's really a funky mix an I like that.

Anyone else know a good mix? Everything else I stumble upon these days is so slow. Need some good drumm and bass.....

Well, some good decent mixes that are fine hose mixes with nice melodies, really deep and melodic and sensitive so you can download them:

DJ PopeMar (http://dhpmixes.com/mixes/DJPopeMar20_01.mp3)
DJ Ken Guru - Recler Pt 1 (http://www.ken-guru.net/mixes/dj_ken-guru_-_recler_part_one.mp3)

This is the same mix, Pt 2 (tech house) (http://www.ken-guru.net/mixes/dj_ken-guru_-_recler_part_two.mp3) and
Three(more of a techno mix but soft) (http://www.ken-guru.net/mixes/dj_ken-guru_-_recler_part_three.mp3)

Have fun:)

P.S. Theese two are special ;)

Groove is in the Heart Pt.2 (http://dl.net.hr/mp3/dj_sets/pero_fullhouse/groove_is_in_the_heart_2.mp3)

Groove is in the Heart Pt.3 (http://dl.net.hr/mp3/dj_sets/pero_fullhouse/groove_is_in_the_heart_3.mp3)

But both slow :(( Still, they are special, here's an article (http://www.net.hr/webcafe/mp3/page/2005/11/10/0190006.html) about them (in Croatian) and the official web site (http://www.pero-fullhouse.com) of the DJ.

Hi. If you like dance music , then I'll recommend m2o to you. It's a radio station in Italy. They have a web radio and the best music are on Friday and Saturday nights. :p017: Go to their page and click on "ascolta la radio" , on the top right of the page.

Cool. I never thought I'd be spending moneys on listening to radio but whatever I don't mind especially as it's so cool to hear jingles in italian.... music than "something something something something .... forzaaa .... something something ".. then music HEHE :)

But I mean more transitional and theme development speed, mixes these days tend to be slow :)

I like it so much i'm using it in one of my uni projects, i'm getting a couple of people to help me remix/cut it up with the Mission Impossible intro, should be ace :D
