I dont understand what is Vieri doing with AC Milan Jersey... :angf:
He is totally out of context and his arrival has put Sheva's stay at risk!!!
Is he really worth it?.... I dont think so!!!!

I've seen him play against Chicago Fire and Chelsea and although he scored (by mistake really) he is really lousy...

Very FAR from Sheva or Kaka's excellency...

:3band:

I hope he stays on the bench at serie A games

ok. talk about over-reaction. the season hasn't even started and here we have "fans" blasting players who are not at their peak physical condition. trust me - vieri being at Milan does not put Sheva at risk. you can start breathing and go back to bed :)

Not a big fan of Vieri and I understand why some wont like him in Milan... No, he wont give Sheva a challenge for his place, but as a sub Vieri can be useful - not only did he come for free but hes also an experienced striker

But anyways... this is part and parcel of being a fan ... once he wears the rossoneri colours you should welcome him with open arms... after all... all of you are there for one reason... milan. it wont be a problem unless for some reason you really really hate vieri.

I definitely agree with Rossonera23 as I have followed the matches and progress of Vieri over the many years that he has been in serie A. He has NEVER.. even at his best.. been a striker that a midfiled could depend on. He simply waits there for the ball to be pumped to him. Its essentially the opponents versus 10 of Milan, with a white elephant in attack.. Vieri. Vieri is now, just like how Ian Rush was prior to his retirement.. absolutely inneffective. One would say that Vieri gives a different aspect to our attack.. i.e: towering headers.. and a stout presence in the box. However, even at Inter, he has failed to show the effectiveness of this approach and instead depends on rebounds to knock in the odd goal or 2. The ONLY use thatr Vieri can possibly have is that he has had a prior strikeforce with Inzaghi in the Italian National Team last time, and this could prove somewhat useful if we do face striker crisis throughout the season. In spite of all this, I am INCREDIBLY excited of the potential of Sheva and Gilardino. :v103: Not since the days of Van Basten have I seen a striker as good as Sheva.. and Gilardino is setting up to become one of the all-time Milan greats !!

Greetings to all of you from Singapore

well - think of it this way. Remember how JDT used to come on as a sub and we all knew that he wasn't going to score? well, think of Vieri as a JDT that actually scores or, at the very least, draws defenders away from Shevchenko or Gila. With JDT, he had to be in front of goal without a goalie in view 2m from the goal line to score :) Vieri is far better than JDT.

well said that’s true Nadir he will be great super sub and for him coming in he can sure gave enough space upfront for sheva and kaka coming in coz he mostly will take one or 2 def and that will be pretty good for Mid-field.
i was not great fan of Vieri but he is no doubt big time striker and with his height and tough built body he can easily play as lone striker.
isn’t it ok when someone doesn’t play that good but he can score vieri is type that will do what sheva and henry does he is type that stays up front and waits that’s what he does and always will do.
we all now know and if he scores like 12 goals a season from the bench why that’s great if sheva and Gila both combine for 40 goals what else will u want.
sehnsucht79 I agree with him sayin when u are fan u have to accept him with open arms, coz he is champion and joins champs

Yes Vieri is far better than JDT but He earn 2 or 3 more money than JDT also Vieri will be a bench player and I don't know He will accept this (Germany 2006)!
But We must give Bobo a chance!

I think that's an inappropriate comparison. Tomasson is much more movable than Vieri and is more involved in the build-up of play. Vieri on the other hand is (or at least used to be) a much more clinical finisher.

There's no doubt of course that in their respective prime Vieri by far is a bigger player. I find no fault with Tomasson's general record, in particular his NT record, it's been world class. But Vieri is an absolute Giant

for all you "vieri haters" you should sit down, take a dep breath and have a look at his stats....

93-94 Ravenne 12 Goals, 32 Games
94-95 Venezia 11 Goals, 29 Games
95-96 Atalanta Bergame 7 Goals, 19 Games
96-97 Juventus Turin 8 Goals, 23 Games
97-98 Atletico Madrid 24 Goals, 24 Games
98-99 Lazio Rome 12 Goals, 22 Games
99-00 Inter Milan 13 Goals, 19 Games
00-01 Inter Milan 18 Goals, 27 Games
01-02 Inter Milan 22 Goals, 25 Games
02-03 Inter Milan 24 Goals, 23 Games
03-04 Inter Milan 13 Goals, 22 Games
04-05 Inter Milan 12 Goals, 27 Games

i have only included his league stats.

now he may not be setting the world on fire but like pippo inzaghi (and there are alot of people who don`t rate him), his goal scoring record either at club level or internationally is as good as any of the world class strikers out there at the moment, literally 1 goal in every 2 games.

considering hes going to be 3rd choice striker i think hes a damn good deal.. now if anyone of you want to argue then please do, but remember I SHALL ALWAYS WIN as you can`t argue with HIS STATS!!! LOL

vieri haters - be realistic. try to find another WORLD class striker willing to sit on our bench. gee.. you want ronaldinho, you want ibrahimovic....you want the BEST PLAYERS ON THE PLANET but none of them will sit on our bench.

vieri was not meant to replace crespo. gilardino was meant to replace crespo. vieri was meant to replace JDT. give him a chance for crying out loud gee. Just remember, if Vieri starts scoring important goals for Milan, people will bring this post up and make you look like an a$$ :)

I was a huge critic of Gila but the moment he started wearing the red and black i shutup because he is now one of us - a Milan brother. I don't care how much I hate a player, the moment he is rossonero, he is immediately a part of me. I will never criticise Gila unless he misses a point blank range goal with 20 seconds remaining in the champions league final against real madrid to win the game 2-1 :) jk

I agree with the consortium that Vieri is a positive addition to the crew of AC Milan. Vieri is a great player who will add depth to the squad, especcially if the Milan forwards suffer from a bout of injuries. Last season Milan ran nto some difficulties when Sheva was injured, and since Ingahzi spent a major (MAJOR) portion of the season with his medical staff.
I think that Vieri can make some positive contributions to the team. Milan made a decision to hire him on for the season, and I welcome him with open arms, and hope that he will show us all just how young and good he still remains.

Forza Vieri, Forza Milan

Thank Goodness many of us agree on supporting Vieri. I'll admit he was not on the top of my list to come to Milan. But he's here now and all the whining isnt gonna make one difference. I remember not being to thrilled when we got Inzaghi. I am more than happy to say that I was wrong. Rosso23... he's not an Inter or Juve player anymore. So we dont have the need to feel like that towards him any longer. I used to call him the big "v@gina" cause that was how he portrayed himself at Inter. That's how a lot of world class players portray themselves when playing for Inter. INTER is adept at bringing out the worst qualities of human behavior into the sporting world. So much so that I'm actually impressed at how consistently they do this.
Now most of us are willing to give Christian a chance. He of course needs to realize that such immature antics that he any any player has shown at Inter is ZERO tolerance for us here in Milan. I think he knows this too! I seem also to remember many former Inter Merda footballers playing their best games when they made the wise crossover to our family at AC MILAN. Our club is the greatest at taking care of it's players and also giving them a swift kick in the a$$ if they get out of line. So for me I'm not too worried about this. Neither should you Rosso23.

i hate to go on about stats but thats the only concrete evidence we haev when we gauge how good a striker is. now vieri scored 12 times in 27 games last year and he is consistently injured!!

consistently injured throughout his career and yet he still has an average of a goal every two games!!

i take it when JDT signed for us the people who dislike vieri, must have thought it was judgement day and armageddon rolled into one (a bit like the day you found out father xmas was your dad, i was distraught.....).

His record for clubs is no where near as consistent or as good as vieris. take into the fact that when JDT is injured or out for a while when he gts back into the team he can`t score.

vieri on the other hand (as his stats show) can be injured and upon his inclusion in the team will pick up where he left off scoring goals left, right and centre (the same can be said of sheva, if hes out for any length of time as soon as hes in he scores..thats why hes so highly regarded).

i shall not judge vieri until he starts missing chances, until then don`t knock one of serie A`s most consistent performers.

Nadir

Certainly "he should've remained at Juventus"; im sure the Juventinos would've given more support than you did

If Milan had not bought Gilardino, things would have honestly looked BLEAK. Now that he is here, I am confident that the FIRST CHOICE partnetship of Sheva and Gila will be absolutely deadly. As for pippo, he's a milanesta at heart without a doubt, but lets hope he bounces back from injury fast enough to help Milan gain top honours this season

As a 4th string striker, I'm happy to have Vieri.

If he was my 1rst or 2nd string, I wouldn't be too happy.

Considering the fact that he IS our 4th string, I think Milan made a great pickup.
Not to mention that he was free. He may not be the fastest or the greatest on the ball, but he does have lots of big game experience.

you were also one of the few that taunted everyone for believing in the transfer wholeheartedly...your final-day antics were exceptionally galling...but no worries.

It does not have much to do with crunching numbers...Milan were in the market for Gila so they knew they would have to shell out. I think Galliani knew that and so did Baraldi. Frankly I don't think we paid too much for Gila, when considering the sums Chelsea and Madrid have paid for players. In that context, as disturbing as it is, we did alright with Gila.

Look at even how much Juventus paid for Vieira...personally I think that is the blunder of the summer...

Ofcourse I did not want Milan to shell out more than Gila was worth and they didn't. I just wanted the negotiations to end positively because he is Italy's most promising prospect.

I never taunt. I was merely bringing to question people's behavior. I seem to remember the taunt coming more from the other side before and after his signing. Just was trying to bring to light how people have such knee jerk reactions. The question was not that I wanted him to to come. I did not like the original price of his transfer. Going back to people's attitude... I merely asked where did all the "optimism" go when evryone was on a worrisome panic with dumb rumours. I merely had to in fairness ask such a question at a time when people were accusing me of pessimism. Not a taunt... a reckoning more so.
It is nice to know that you too were in disagreement at the original cost of Gila's transfer. I'm sorry I did not include your name.

Surely our 2 main strikers will be Sheva and Gilardino, Vieri in NO way will take their place. To take my hearth Vieri will have to score in next year's final.

IMO Vieri has past it, but maybe he may score those 10 goals next year. Inzaghi for me his story is very very similar to that of the final years of Van Basten

Nadir
02-08-2005, 19:24
just ask yourself this question - is milan stronger or weaker than last year?

Attack: Absolutely stronger. Vieri is much more competent than JDT and as good as Crespo was for us, I think most people would consider Gila a stronger addition just from the number of goals last year.

Midfield: Weaker? We lost Dhorasso but gained Vogel. I would say we are slightly weaker in the midfield because Vogel is more a midfield ball-winner where as Dhorasso was a Pirlo-esque playmaker. The strength of our midfield depends on where Marek plays.

Defence: Definitely stronger with the addition of Jankulovski. Other than that we are fairly unchanged except for the addition of a fairly decent 2nd goalkeeper.

Will we win titles with this lineup? It depends on their psychology through the season :) we all know what i am referring to

Rossonera23
03-08-2005, 00:44
Attack... A plus... defenitly stronger....
Hopefully Gilardino will make up for the lack of aim Vieri has shown so far...

Most of you are expecting 10 -12 goals from Vieri...this season... out of how many matches? just Serie A or the whole thing.. CHL, friendly games, etc.

...then again....let's just wait and see...

Your guys think so low of Vieri and its pity coz u think he is over hell no maybe he is abit slow but in front of goal there is no other better then him he should get his fitness back and he will be fine he seems abit slow now but with Milan lab he will do pretty good and i am not worried one bit.
all the players on the team and the coaching staff are happy with him.
u cant expect a miracle form him now i know he wont blossom in 2 weeks he will need almost month and half to get back don’t forget he played with team that tends to
wear u off if u in ur early 30s where Milan tends to make them last longer.
to me anyone wears a Milan jersey deserves respect and suport them not like INter when u down once they make suffer.

Another interesting fact about Vieri that surprised me was "Christian Vieri has beaten all his teammates in the sprint tests over 10, 15 and 30 metres". I honestly though players like Sheva, Kaka, Cafu and even maybe Pippo and Rino would have been faster.

I never really realised Vieri had such good acceleration, which could prove useful for when he plays off the shoulders of defenders in the coming season. Adds another facet to his game which would be of much use for throughballs Pirlo and Kaka (Rui Costa) might be able to provide.

Yes that really is surprising and encouraging news. I never would have thought that Vieri had such speed. I guess the Milan can make miracles. Let's hope he can use that speed to burst past defenders all season.

frankly, any footballer who brings with him top-level experience is a worthwhile addition to any squad, including milan. We might need young blood, but proven products at the highest level who are willing to play as squad players are really rare. Which other top footballer is willing to come to play on a rotational basis?

Figo's going to Inter with a 1st team spot..I would have liked him to come to Milan, but thats not really possible..

give credit to vieri..he's still good, if not with his ability, at least his imposing build can still cause alot of problems for opposing defenders in the air. he'll draw markers away from gila/shevo, leaving that latter (who's much faster) to make runs into the box..

Attack... A plus... defenitly stronger....

E le mie speranze le ritrovo qui....
FORZA ROSSONERI!!!!

10-12 goals in Serie A alone. I just wonder how long you have been watching Serie A if you are judging the performance of a player over the whole season from a few pre-season games. :wow:

In the light of the fact that Vieri hasn't scored less than 12 league goals/season since 96/97, isn't 10-12 in Serie A realistic then?

and so ends the thread. if you were judging him from his time before Milan, then your argument sinks like a lead balloon. thanks laudrup lol

Vierri is awsome. Put him and Pipo as starting forwards with Shavchenko and Gilardino backing them up!

it's Vieri, Pippo and Shevchenko. There is no way in hell you will see Sheva and Gila backing up Vieri and Pippo lol.

The rumours of Vieris "death" are greatly exaggerated ;)
The man still got some game, and hopefully he will prove his doubters wrong.

btw, I changed the thread title, as the discussion seems to have changed and since Vieri is a Milan player, like it or not.

you should probably remove that angry face next to "VIERI IN MILAN" thread title lol. there is no reason to have that there.

Pirlo, Seedorf, Vieri, Crespo, Ganz, Simic are the only ones that come to mind right now in recent history. And of course Giuseppe Meazza (who played at Inter, Milan and Juve)
