I thnik Diego cant be compared to any one, he is far away from any ordinary football player like kaka or ronaldinho or who ever, because he is simply THE GOD of football.
He scored the best goal ever, and didnt score it versus any conuntry, he scored versus england, the inventors of football, he played an entire world cup (1990) with a hurt ankle and got into the final. He was a magician with the ball and never had a bad performance on the field. I think these words are useless because everyone kows waht Maradona means and if someone thinks that actual fotball player can be compared to him, that one has no idea of what football means.

Well, I do not agree, Pele 100% was better than Diego, Pele is the GOD of football, he is 3 times world champion (Diego is only once), and Pele had more skills than Maradona. The brazilian could play with the both legs, also with the head, but Maradona had only one good left leg, Maradona with the right leg or the head was poor picture... :rollani:
I know, you are from Argentina and it's normal to support Maradona, but the facts are that Pele was better!

It's not possible to say who was better. They both played in a different period, so the style of football was also different.
In my eyes, they were both excellent footballplayers. They were both the best in their period!

Diego couldnt play with his head? only one good leg???? Diego is the best because he played a whole world cup with a wonded ankle, he scored the best goal ever vs England, he scored a goal with his hand vs England to ( the hand of god), he won neverything in Italy with Napoli defeating the powerfull teams of the north, and the only way they had to stop him to win the 94 world cup was that pathetic fake they made with that doping test.

Besides, I hear in Brazil they say Zico waas beter than Pele and Zico was no where near as good as Diego. Diego couldn't win a match by his own? Do you remember Argentina-Brazil in 1990? Argentina played terrible, the niggers could have won for 3 or 4 goals, but they kept missing ( Bilardo, Argentina's coach, didnt said nothing to the players in the half time, but when they were about to go out the field again he shouted ''guys please, dont give the ball anymore to the men in yellow!!!!''), in the second half Diego got the ball, passed 3 or 4 brazilians and gave a great pass to Caniggia who scored the final 1-0, that game Maradona won it by his self.
And cheater??? cheating on who? on the english pirates?? who stoles from a thief is forgiven, and becise Shilton didnt saw Diego's hand, it was Fenwick who saw it, but the important is the referee didnt saw it, so the hand didnt exist.

Without the handball it was a 1-1 draw, so while it can be said that his individual skill matched England, it was his cheating that surpassed us.

I still rate him as the best ever though, Pele has the world cup record but domestically is hard to prove, Best never got to show his talents on the world stage, same with Di Stefano. Maradona is proven both domestically and Internationally.

Maradona would loose the game or something, I guess... :1d31: :rotfl: Do not regret Caniggia, after all HE SCORED that goal, not Maradona...If you again are not able to understand me, than I'm saying that ARGENTINA won that game, not only Maradona.
Look, I'm not saying that Maradona wasn't great, he was, but he WASN'T "the greatest"!!! Nobody denies that in that game (vs England) he scored very beautiful goal, but I've seen a lot of goals like this, even 2 days ago Ronaldinho scored 2 wonderful goals vs Real Madrid!!! :pr115:

ohh that's a small difference.....
Lets see all the things that have been said here about the greatest football player ever:
cheat

lol soo true he was a cheat nothing but a cheat hes a overweight cheat
that is sacrilegy to football.
some others have said that some players, for exmple Del Piero, could have been better.
No player will ever be an inch of the great he was.
Without the handball it was a 1-1 draw, so while it can be said that his individual skill matched England, it was his cheating that surpassed us.
You say that because like all english you are still completely mad about that game and the way Diego beated you, and that handball was just part of his magic, nobody (not even your golkeeper, Shilton) was sure that he had touch it with his hand untill he confesed it.
I'll again disagree with you. You said that he "gave a great to Caniggia, who scored the final 1-0"... What would happened if Claudio had missed that opportunity??? If we didnt had Diego, we would have lost that match, the whole team was a disaster that day, the only one that shined was Diego.
He wasnt the greatest?? tell me one , just one player better or like him, just one.
And please, comparing the greatest goal ever, not only for its beauty, for its technice, but for its meaning, it was beating the englishh, the inventors of football, it was the revenge for the 66 cup, it was beating the pirates that stole our islands, it was beating the war criminals who sank a ship that was out of the exclusion zone with 900 of our young boys (non of them with more than 19 years) that had no idea of what war was, that is not the sense of football, but that's what it was for us, even if it was just a little thing compared to what they did to us. You cant compare anything to that, Diego is more than a football player, he is a symbol, he is magic, sorry if some people has no blood on his veines, but for peple like us, used to suffer everyday, football becomes the only thing that makes us forget about all that, and Diego gave to us the greatest moments of joy in our history, and nothing can be compared to that.

I see you still can't understand me... :rollani:
Firstly, I had the feeling that we talked about ONLY football! I see you don't love England, but you can't deny that NOONE of the english players had any relationship with this unfair war(all the wars are unfair!!!), so it's not fair to blame somebody only because he is English...
Secondly, about scoring vs England, this do not mean anything, being the inventor doesn't mean that you are the best! Right? ;) Weah scored his similar goal (September 1996, 1st round of 1996/1997) vs Verona(Italian team, if I'm not wrong... ;) ).
What about the game Brazil - Argentina (1990), if your keeper wasn't so good, even 3 Maradonas couldn't save Argentina, the brazilians missed soooooo many opportunities...That's why I'm saying that in this game won Argentina, not only Maradona.
What about naming a player, better than Maradona? I already did it, this is Pele, he was better and he won more than Diego.

War or no war Maradonna was the best. You can talk about any player you want, you can compare any modern day player to him. BUT I bet they will play for a better team than the Napoli team Maradona played for. Then before the 1994 WC he was clubless, but still came to the world cup as fit and as good as anyone else.

When Zidane was at his peak, some people started comparing him to Diego. You dont hear anyone doing that now that he is showing signs of aging.

The only reason he isnt hyped up as much as Pele by Fifa is because they dont want a little fat coke-head as the symbol of football.

But I ended up doing so and voted for Sheva for one important reason... that is, he plays for Milan and to me that is my football world. Maradona is actually the most fouled player in any world cup. That is a fact.

I dont know if "Pele's worldcups" were easier, but he cetainly played in a better team. Possibly the best ever national side.

Little bit of fouling info, Pele only actually played in 2 games in the 62 and 66 World Cups, he missed the rest after being fouled so badly he couldnt play on, so it seems the defenders werent giving him that much room afterall....

I have to admit Pelé did great things, only that for my age, things Diego did are so much close to my history, becise im argntinian but first than argentinian i am supporter of Boca and for us Diego is god on earth. They both are unlikely, there will never be any one as good s them, but everyone's opinion about who was the best can be different, but this discussion about ''Maradona or Pelé'' is pointless, i think it will be better just to enjoy what they left in football history.
