I dont like Shearer... im sorry
Owen for €28m is crazy sh*t.
Stezagud
30-08-2005, 11:30
Real only got him cheap (if £8m is cheap?) because he was in the last year of his contract, £17m is for a European player of the year with a goalscoring record like Owens is about right.
Good job Utd already played the toon ;)

Newcastle r getting solano back guys
Stezagud
01-09-2005, 12:35
Solano will give them width from the right to go with Luque from the left, with Shearers heading ability and Owen and Bowyer mopping up the rebounds they might actually manage to score this season :)
Seriously though they have built a decent starting XI, the squad is still to weak to relly challenge but if they keep the first XI fit they should be top 5/6...

i do like newcastle a lot, but our defence is going to let us down again this season, we need a lb, a partner for boumsong and another back up defender, the rest of the team picks itself:
dyer------bowyer----------emre-------------luquw
-------shearer----------------owen
hopefully we can edge out liverpool for 4th, but i doubt it, a top 6 finish though, is a must, otherwise souness will get fired, i personally hope he goes asap, cos he simply isn't good enough

Babayaro is ok, though i still dont understand how Bernard left so easily?
As for a partner for Boumsong, Taylor has outperformed him this season so maybe they should be trying to find someone to partner him instead ;)
Dont you think Parker deserves a place in the side?

I think Souness has made some great buys this summer but even with that taken into account i agree with you, he simply isnt a good enough manager at the top level.
The midfield is solid, that's for sure ... Emre, Parker, Faye and Bowyer will make sure of that. Upfront has obviously been reinforced, but the defence is still shaky at best. Boumsong is either good or bad, there doesn't seem to be a middle ground, the other defenders aren't very solid either.
£4 million of the transfer of Owen will go to Liverpool as Real had only paid £4 million of the £8 million transfer. Plus don't forget Owen's injuries, if he plays regularly he is likely to have an injury, he seemed to have one every season for Liverpool that stopped him playing for 8-10 games or so. He will score for them though, but how long he stays is another matter, i don't think it's too unlikely that he'll be back at Liverpool next summer.

I tell you again, don't trust Emre that much, he is INJURED!

You miss my point Abyss, what i'm saying is that the 4 midfield players i mentioned are all very solid and combative ... whether Emre is injured or not is irrelevant, the fact is he adds hussle to their sqaud.
How many goals do you think Owen will have in him this season?
I think about 20 if everything goes his way, i.e. injuries, how he fits in with Shearer and Luque, etc
I think about 20 if everything goes his way, i.e. injuries, how he fits in with Shearer and Luque, etc
If Owen gets 20 it will be the first time he will do so, he has'nt scored 20 goals in a single season at any given season, what i mean is if one only calculates the goals he has scored in the league(not europe or cups) then he has never got to the 20 goal mark, he is simply overrated. :undecide:

I think he'll get 12 to 15, Newcastle are still a much troubled side even with all the new players they have.

Van Nistelrooy and Rooney always seem to score against Newcastle too.
I look forward to the games against Newcastle. They are normally exciting even if they are sometimes very one sided lol.
My favourite game of Man United against Newcastle is the time we beat Newcastle 6 - 2 at St James' Park a few years ago.

I know this is a bit random but i'm new to this forums but i would just like to say that if Newcastle could sign one or two top defenders they would have a pretty good team for next season. Also on paper their team isn't bad at all! Also they need a striker LIKE Bent (Proven in the Prem, but i THINK he's just signed a new contract with Charlton hasn't he?)
So if you can do that i think they'll do quite well this season in the league; i also think Pompey who have signed a few good players with their new owner will be much higher up the league this season aswel.

Izzit official yet?
well chelsea have agreed a deal ... newcastle have too ... and damien duff is okay with it .. he just needs to pass his medical i think know ... we are set to sign him YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH !!! DUFF DUFF DUFF
newcastle has the worst management ever, they dont know how to deal with transfers properly, they could have probably got duff for 7m pounds, they dont know how to play with the price.
based on what i saw last season from them, and thats when they started winning games and a few bad losses before that, i think they need alot of changes, the defence is horrible, they should buy a left back thats good going forward but moer importanty present in defence alot, i think egyptian LB abdul wahab would do well or that mexican LB no.3 salcido or maybe gilberto of brazil the guy who scored vs japan, in the center i think bramble isnt bad but not really trust worthy too, maybe burdisso could come at a good price given his good WC and the ecuadorian defender no.17 espinoza, on the right maybe grygera of czech rep would do fine but i saw a czech RB/RW in the u-21 tournament and i think he can be something great in career, hes no.6 ...
in midfield there are far too many similar players like parker, solano, emre, and now bowyer who used to be a winger ... emre has to start, parker or solano have to go and they should buy a hard defensive midfielder like zokora who i think went to spurs, maybe yaya toure, i think luque could be explosive but the club arent using him the right way with duff here then maybe he should be sold or loaned since n'zogbia is a good sub... most importantly NUFC need a good Playmaker, if they can snatch aimar it would be great for them or maybe someone less injury prone like guily (though i doubt he would come)...
in attack i was never a fan of owen because hes never available and they got him for a very hefty price, i like ameobi but he needs a speedy striker next to him thats always available and owen isnt, someone like gyan amoah would do fine.
they could also play 4-5-1 with luque on the left and duff on the right and hope that luque starts blending in, and and they should have gone for hiddink when they had the chance, i dont like english coaches they have an old school mentality that is easily broken, that is why mourinho and wenger have been dominating the EPL in recent years while jol has improved tottenham alot recently

I dont think the money is there for them to do all that :) they want to sell Boumsong but nobody is dumb enough to pay for him. Salcido would be a great buy, he impressed me in the confeds cup, particularly against Brazil, and was solid at the world cup too, but the experience of Borghetti may put him off the EPL. Gilberto and Burdisso are out of their rainge imo, and i havent seen Wahab play. Taylor is a good young CB but was injured for long spells last season, one senior CB alongside Taylor would tighten their defence massively. Perhaps Uljafusi? Newcastle must be preferable to Serie B :D
Parker and Emre is a solid and effective midfield if they keep them together. I dont know why they bought Duff, they are in desperate need of a striker and have instead spent £10m(?) on a position they already had Luque and N'Zogbia covering! That said, Luque hasnt got up to speed in the EPL yet, he still seemed surprised that defenders stop him immediately instead of letting him control it, turn round and run at them ;)
I am no great fan of Ameobi, he had potential but never developed finishing skills, even more shocking considering he was learning from Shearer and Owen who are/were 2 of the best finishers in the game. Gyan did well at the world cup but buying players based on WC performances is a risky business, better to get at least 1 proven striker in (Anelka?) and maybe a guy with potential like Ashton.

Im not sure thats true, though Roeders record isnt great, he managed to get relegated with a West Ham side containing Ferdinand, Lampard, Defoe, Joe Cole, Carrick etc  they were all very young then though. As for the other managers, Wenger actually plays a system that was left in place for him 10 years ago by Rioch, the 4-4-2 with a withdrawn striker. Rioch even bought Bergkamp for him ;) Fergie is as oldschool as they come but he dominated Wenger over the last decade. Wenger is a great manager but what he does isnt rocket science.
Jol plays a very basic 4-4-2 with a tall striker and fast wingers, every team here knows how to do that but Spurs have a billionaire chairman backing them and they've bought almost all englands U-21 team, as well as Zokora and Berbatov this summer. Which leaves Mourinho, he may have won back to back titles but he has so much money he could field 2 world class sides  they couldnt decide whether to buy Cole or Carlos at LB so will most likely just get both   in that situation just about any manager could win the league, except 'cultured' coach Ranieri ;)
Parker is a defensive midfielder mk, he's also their new captain. He is their Gattuso if you like as he never gives up and is full of energy and running. He can also score goals. Bowyer has left and is at West Ham now i think. Solano is getting on a bit and is a right winger. I think they bought Duff so they can move Luque up front to give them more striking options. One thing is for sure, he's not a left winger.
The defence is their big problem. Boumsong and Bramble are terrible, Babayaro is awful and Carr has dropped in form a huge amount from his days at Spurs. If it wasn't for Given, they'd get a hammering more or less every week.
Dr Milano

well i know they dont have the money, im not talking about signing these players during this summer, im just saying if newcastle wanna become a better team they should look to change some stuff and going for players similar to those i mentioned would be great, ujfalufsi is also another great option, maybe also vucinic in attack. as for the managers, since foreign coaches joined their clubs the EPL became a much better league and much more threatening in europe IMO, i forgot to mention the best of all, benitez, hes one of the best you can find these days

dont you think we have a good team know not the best but a team that can challenge for 4th place
nope, still not good enough, you need to have a good solid defence to be able to challenge for high positions and newcastle dont have 1 good defender on the whole team together

agreed, Newcastles present squad is no way a top 4 side, with a dodgy defence and no proven goal scorer they will struggle to stay in the top 10. Apparently Klose and Ashton are the 2 strikers being watched and either of those would be a solid signing and work well with Owen when he's back. If there budget can stretch to £20m they could probably get Ashton, Uljafusi and Neill, those 3 would fix them to an extent.

we have some quality mids and strikers ... its team work end of the day ... so if everyone does thier bit its okay everything is on ameobi 's shoulders
Stezagud
23-07-2006, 10:51
the midfield has some quality, Emre and Parker central are a good pairing, Duff us a great left winger and Solano is decent on the right. I hope Roeder gives Milner a chance as he is a great crosser, he was Villa's best player last season and one of the top assist-makers in the league.
The strikeforce is far too weak though, Luque hasnt shown any form in the Premiership yet and Ameobi imho isnt good enough to shoulder the burden of scoring enough goals to put the toon in a CL place.
£5 million for Duff ! That is the figure being floated around right now, if that is correct then that's insane !!!!!
If that is true (although i'm very suspicious of it) that means Chelsea made a loss of £11 - £12 million on him, (i'm sure they bought him for 16 or 17). Even if the real transfer sum is £10 million that's still a hefty loss, but to Chelsea it means nothing. It's the same with Del Horno, he went to Valencia for just over half of what Chelsea paid for him. Kind of makes a mockery of the value of money when your club can afford to through it away like that.
Stezagud

I heard £10m, with Spurs dropping out of the bidding at £7m. Your right though, it is still writing off half his original price and must be really annoying for smaller clubs who only have a small budget every year to see Chelsea throw money away like that. Remember they paid £15m for Veron only to give him away to Inter
I say little clubs struggle but right now Utd are the only Premiership side not to have signed anyone! ;)

OH MY GOD -----
Newcastle 1 - 0 Wigan :firedev: heheheheheheh Scotty Scotty Scotty Parker :firedev: come on ... Magpie 4 life
Before Tavano went to Valencia, i would have said that Martins was certain to go there. Now i'm not so sure. I think Martin's agent has said that he's keen on a move to Spain. Klose will be a difficult player to get hold of, i heard he didn't want to go to the premiership.

Newcastle have signed Guiseppe Rossi from Manchester United on loan until January. Good acquisition for Newcastle IMO. Hopefully Rossi will take some points off Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and Man City. At least he won't be able to do it aganst Man United as he's not eligable to play against us.
Will post this in the Man United thread also as it concerns both clubs.
Dr. Milano you dunno how glad i am that Martins has left those losers :5inter:
i have always been his fan as Nigerian NT Player, but i hate him as an inter player, i
it looks like i will newcastle united since u have Martins, what a great player he is
Newcastle in tough with Palermo in the UEFA... they will need more goals than 1 per game if they are going to win.

Newcastle 1- 2 Bolton
I feel sorry for Newcastle, they are like Inter, buying great players but for nothing.
Stezagud
16-10-2006, 10:35
People have said it since the Keegan days, there is no point buying expensive world class attackers if you dont have a good defence!
They did well to get rid of Boumsong and if they are smart will dump Bramble, Ramage and Taylor are too young to build a defence around yet too. Even Carr who was reliable for years at Spurs looks shaky at St James'.

Roeder is a fool, he fields the hopeless pony Martins and leaves Rossi on the bench until the last 10 minutes. I watched the match yesterday and a talented player like Rossi would just add a new dimension to the Newcastle game.I can't understand why he doesn't believe in Rossi's talent. I watched Newcastle v another team, two weeks ago, and he made the same mistake.
Stezagud
16-10-2006, 11:29
agreed, Utd made a mistake lending him to Newcastle if they arent even going to use him, we should have lent them Pique, Bardsley or Evans instead.
Roeder has to play Martins because he bought him and to play a loan signing ahead of the guy he spent £10m on would be admitting he's wasted the money..

right, but as far as i know they have 7 points and they are not very well positioned on the table; Martins is a good player but Rossi is definitely better.I would say an extraordinary player. He's starting to impress with U21 even though Casiraghi is using him with wiseness, not exposing him too much too early
Gio, off topic, but can you think of Casiraghi without remembering the goal he missed in injury time in the Euro96 in England (pass from Zola), against the Czech Republic that would have tied the game?
If these things (such as not marking a player's run) happened a few times, you'd say it was down to a lack of concentration. But at Newcastle, hapless defending seems to be a regular occurrence!
Their defenders are just atrocious, i reckon if Steza, Gio, Sant and I formed the defence, we'd do a better job! :D
What made it even more annoying was that they lost to Bolton, Nolan & Jaskalinen aside, i really hate that team.

it's obvious why Martins is preferred to Rossi... because he belongs to them... and therefore he will get the nod ahead infront of a player who is only on loan...

I remember that one, and the free flowing bad words towards him, but honestly he shot in a very quick action.I've seen easier goals missed by internationals, but that one was crucial and closed an era for the italian football and the Sacchi NT experience

It was only the league cup though, better to save your wins for the league and move up the table especially when your squad is stretched out so thin...
Utd are coming to St James' soon though and when Utd play Newcasstle, Scholes means goals :D

Van Der Saar would have easily saved it if it hadnt taken a deflection of Scholes, he was in the right position until that happened..

maybe, but they did play for half the game with 10 men so it might not be that easy ;)
Remember Birmingham may be in the Championship but they are full of players with Premiership experience and will most likely be back in the Prem next year.

Eidur Gudjohnsen is next if Big Sam gets his way
I've always rated Big Sam as a manager and must say he is doing exactly what i would have in the same position. Instead of doing what every guy in charge of the Toon has done since Keegan and just waste money on strikers he set about sorting out the leaky defence.
Out with junk like Bramble and in with players who not only have talent but also have a lot of hunger to succeed. He's bringing his scientists along too, even the famed Milan lab could probably pick up a trick or 2 from Sams techniques there :dielaugh:
