The City of Portland (nick named City of Rose's or Bridgetown) and the state of Oregon.

Portland is a rather small city, about 1.6 million, including surrounding subburbs. Portland is well know for its natural splender, a prize winning Rose Garden, Japanese garden and a new traditional Chinese garden. The city is split in half by the Willemette river, that is crossed by some 12-14 bridges. We have a great alternative commutter system, from exstensive Bicycle paths, to our ever exspanding commuter rail system. We have the largest City Park, within the boundry of our city, in the US. This park boasts some 200 km of trails for hiking, and biking, plus dear, foxes, and even a bob cat or two.
We also have the Ocean, wind surfing in the Columbia Gorge, and Skiing (year round) within a 1 hour to 1 1/2 hour drive from the city center.

The state attractions include as mentioned aboce. The Pacific Ocean with many sleepy seaside towns. The Columbia River Gorge and Hood River, a mecca for Wind surfers around the world. Then the only year round ski resort, Timberline, offering skiing some 350 days a year, attracting Alpine ski racing teams (USA team, Swiss team, Japanese national team) plus various US based junior programs throught out the summer months, and also a huge destination for snowboarding summer camps.
The State of Oregon offers a huge variety of Outdoor enjoyment, from the Desert and desolationof our south eastern border, to the mountains and heavy forests of the heartland of central, southern and Northwestern oregon. Mountains (mainly volcanic peaks) streams, rivers, lakes and the ocean offer various outdoor activies for all. I would have to say that if you want to see huge exspanses of green forst land, Oregon is the prefect place to visit.

Here are some pictures for all to enjoy.
