Congrats to you guys, you played well and deserved that result or at least a draw... Sven made a stupid decision by letting Owen to play alone in front... :googly:

I was extremely happy England were humiliated!

That doesnt surprise me Hasan

horrible, horrible display :(

no passion, awful tactics and nobody knowing where they were supposed to be...Sven has a lot to answer for and he is too weak to make the decisions required for England to fulfil their potential. N.Ireland dont have any great talents in that team but Lawrie Sanchez and Dave Beasant have given them the old Wimbledon fighting spirit, their players were a credit to their nation whereas ours (having been inspired by Svens gentle conversational skills, and Beckhams leadership qualities  ) seemed to think they need only turn up and things will happen for them.....Rooney got a lot of grief from the press but at least he showed he cared, and as soon as Terry is fit again he should be given the captaincy, he'd have smashed a few heads together if he'd been there yesterday.

Fortunately its only Englands first defeat and we need only 2 home wins to top the group. One thing worth noting is that the last time we played this bad was against Hong Kong select XI in 96, about a month after that the SaS destroyed Holland :) so there is always hope ;)

imho, if Sven put in Cole for Rooney since the starting wistle.....

anyway the pressure is a bad friend and England is stressed.
The evidence is terry the butcher :hammer:

Were you at Windsor Gino?

Honestly, the best night ever. I was about four rows in front of the guy who let off the flare when we scored.

no, Rab, unfortunately I weren't.
I saw live on tv,
I choose that game instead of Italy vs. Bielorussia :)
I watched the game one more time last night, Healy goal was absolutely legal, his movement has been fantastic: a great joy for you, I see rivers of beer....

Because lots of people take great delight in Englands defeats, we're like the international version of Millwall :)

I like the happiness of North Ireland people because of this historic victory.
They didn't beat England since the night of the times.
I am happy for this simple reason, but it doesn't mean that I am happy for England defeat: I respect England and Sven, I'm laughing only for :nana: Spain :nana: disaster.

Norn Iron were great and England were awful at best. There's alot of criticism about England playing 4-5-1, but some of it isn't justified. I think when to play it was wrong, it should have been against Denmark not in a true qualifier, especially against home country opposition. Anytime England play Wales, Scotland, N. Ireland or the Republic of Ireland, it's like a derby where form and everything else goes out the window. So for me the timing of this formation change was bad.

However, if you look at the players we have you have to ask why it didn't work as 4-5-1/4-3-3 (they're pretty much the same formations it just depends if you're attacking or defending in my opinion) suits alot of our players. A midfield 3 of Lampard, Beckham and Gerrard means Lampard has the same role he has for Chelsea and Beckham has his centre position, which leaves Gerrard but he should be able to adapt. The front 3 of Rooney, Owen and SWP means Rooney plays wide like he has done for Man Utd recently (when they've played Rooney and Ronaldo alongside RVN) and SWP playing on the right side like he does for Chelsea/City. The only one it doesn't completely suit is Owen. I mean if Fergie plays Rooney out wide for Utd, why can't it work for England ? If you take all that into acount, the formation should have worked better than it did.

But anyway, now we have to go back to 4-4-2 because of pressure, which means no pace or width on the right and Beckham (as the game slips away from England) increasingly moving to the middle to show everyone he can hit the ball 50 yards ... no holding player of note because Lampard and Gerrard want to go forward and Cole on the left :rollani:

But lets celebrate N. Ireland's TEAM performance and hope England can learn from it and also that Sven might be asked to leave, although i can't see it as it would cost the F.A. too much money. One last thing, why do so many people round the country want Allardyce to manage England ? I can't see anything in him.

Yes thats an important point, i dont think many people outside of Britain realise that this is a derby game. As i said before, Sanchez had his team pumped up and ready for a fight, Sven had ours ready for a patient passing game

However, if you look at the players we have you have to ask why it didn't work as 4-5-1/4-3-3 (they're pretty much the same formations it just depends if you're attacking or defending in my opinion) suits alot of our players. The trouble is Beckham. 4-5-1 are the tactics to get the most out of Gerrard and Lampards attacking qualities but by playing Beckham in behind them we nullify our own threat! Beckham plays 50-60 yard passes which completely bypass our Gerrard, Lampard and Rooney (who drops deep in his natural Utd game) this leaves us with SWP ahead of play and only Owen as a target for any cross he may produce, and Owen is hardly big Dunc :)

We also lose out defensively because Beckham cant tackle, the way he stood off Davis was criminal at that level. Parker or Carrick are the better option for the role, with Parker being my preference as he is a great tackler (despite his red yesterday ;) ) and more likely to pass it short in midfield.

But lets celebrate N. Ireland's TEAM performance and hope England can learn from it and also that Sven might be asked to leave, although i can't see it as it would cost the F.A. too much money. Agreed, no point getting rid of Sven now, less than year before the world cup with 2 important games only a few weeks away and no obvious successor

I do like Big Sam because he speaks his mind and has worked wonders at Bolton. He handles ego's well and can work well with limited selection and small squads, he is also more tactically adept than Sven imho, he plays longball against some teams, 3-5-2 against others, 4-3-3 at other times etc and he does it without his players being left with that "what am i supposed to be doing?" look that the England team had last wednesday. Despite all that though i dont think he should be given the England job direct, i'd have liked to see him work at Newcastle for a few years and if he had been successful at that level (ie battling for 4th, strongish in Europe) then maybe he could be a long term successor. I would like to see Psycho involved with the England team though, he has motivational skills that we sorely miss right now.
