1) Milan fail to bury this game long before they did and I really hope this won't be the trend like it was last year.

2) Gila and Kaka missed two OPEN goals. At least Kaka had scored a marvellous one but Gila is still trying to find his place. Let' give him more time

3) Milan essentially played with two defenders - one one of whom is recovering from an injury for much of the second half.

4) EXCELLENT target practice for the CL game this Tuesday.

5) Milan HAVE to use the January transfer window and get some younger defenders.

6) Stam has improved tremendously as a full-back. His crosses were awesome.

nothing much said.

Everything is going well.
Gila needs to calm down that's all. We can all see the talents.

A decent match from us.. we produced dosens of chances, just sad to see Gilardino miss 3 excellent chances - it would be good for him to get a goal and earn some confidence.
Great match from Serginho, Stam and also Seedorf I think. We should have scored more than 3, but in the end of the day we got 3 points and that is what counted...

Great game for Milan in attack but defensively another story. Having 2 attacking fullbacks is dangerous. But what's really costing us is the inability to defend on set pieces. This was a problem at the start of last season too so hopefully this year Milan will be able to solve this again.

Gila needs a little while to gain form trust me he will be worth the wait. He missed a few chances but I am sure he'll be back to normal.

Kaka' really energized the team and scored a beautiful goal. He did miss 2 chances but I was really impressed by him running at defenders and his passing has improved I feel.

Sheva, what can I say about him! A wonderful game he scored a beautiful game and set up Ambrosini's. He truely is an amazing player.

Rui Costa had a good game and made some beautiful passes. I can safely say we have 2 of the best #10's in the world.

match report from http://www.channel4.com/sport/football_italia/sa0506/mil-sie.html

Milan 3 - 1 Siena
Ambrosini 15 (M), Shevchenko 32 (M), Tudor 45 (S), Kaka 81 (M)
Stadio Giuseppe Meazza

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fine goals from Andriy Shevchenko and Kaka proved enough to sink a tough Siena outfit 3-1, though the Milan defence still looks shaky.

Paolo Maldini returned from a knee injury to mark his 569th Serie A appearance - just one short of Dino Zoff's all-time record. The pressure was already on the Rossoneri after their 1-1 draw at a rain-soaked pitch in Ascoli and Carlo Ancelotti made changes, introducting Manuel Rui Costa and moving Serginho to left-back. The suspended Christian Vieri and injured Pippo Inzaghi remained sidelined.

Siena fielded summer signings Igor Tudor and Tomas Locatelli in midfield, while Erjon Bogdani partnered on-form veteran Enrico Chiesa upfront.

Andriy Shevchenko had the first real chance after four minutes, Massimo Ambrosini holding it up for the Ukrainian's wayward volley.

Rui Costa's delightful flick confused his marker and set Clarence Seedorf running in the centre, but the Dutchman was crowded out before he could shoot.

Alberto Gilardino has disappointed so far this season and he ballooned over the bar from Serginho's splendid cross.

Milan were putting on the pressure and finally broke through after 15 minutes. Jaap Stam and Shevchenko combined down the right flank and the Ukrainian cut back for Ambrosini to sidefoot home from three yards.

A long-range Chiesa effort was not too far off the top corner of Dida's net, but at the other end Stam's cross was volleyed round the far post by an off-balance Rui Costa.

Mirante held a fierce Seedorf attempt, but it was that man Shevchenko who doubled their lead with a stunning finish. Rui Costa worked the ball and when his pass to Gilardino was intercepted, Shechenko didn't think twice about unleashing a missile into the top corner of the net for his 110th Serie A goal.

Moments later, goalkeeper Mirante had his palms stung by the Ballon d'Or winner at the near post with another powerful strike. Rui Costa then set up Gilardino for an angled drive that was well saved, as Siena were reeling.

Milan have been struggling to defend on set-pieces for the last year and proved that it's still an issue on 37 minutes. An Alberto corner kick found Bogdani totally unmarked in the centre and Dida somehow managed to parry with his stomach in a reflex movement at point-blank range.

The big Brazilian wasn't quite so fortunate on the stroke of half-time, as Igor Tudor rose to nod in another Chiesa corner kick to give Siena hope of a comeback in the second half.

The start of the second half was delayed by work to fix a hole in the Milan net, with Maldini, Andrea Pirlo and Serginho crowding round to help.

Gilardino couldn't quite co-ordinate himself on Seedorf's cross and wasted a golden opportunity to restore their two-goal cushion.

Another dangerous Siena move went begging when Tudor nodded wide from close range after Bogdani had held up Vergassola's cross.

Marcos Cafu replaces Stam for a more aggressive right-back solution, while Siena switched to a 4-4-2 with Gianluca Falsini.

Serginho broke away from his market with a delightful piece of footwork, but ruined it all by trying to shoot from a difficult angle rather than cross for Gilardino.

Former Parma hitman Gilardino is yet to score an official goal for his new club and was very unlucky on the hour mark. He sprung the offside trap and went round the goalkeeper, but his finish was too weak and Francesco Colonnese cleared it on to the upright of an empty net. Once again, the Milan players were perhaps a little selfish, as Shevchenko was totally unmarked a few feet behind.

There was concern when Shevchenko was struck on the side of the head, as he has struggled with several facial injuries in recent years, but he was able to carry on after treatment. Mirante flew to catch Serginho's resulting free kick.

Siena went for broke and threw on Massimo Marazzina for defender Colonnese, but the Rossoneri were still pouring forward and Mirante again flew to block a Rui Costa piledriver.

Dida had to be on his toes and rushed off his line to close down substitute Massimo Marazzina, who had nutmegged Alessandro Nesta with a marvellous piece of skill. As the move continued, Bogdani turned his header wide of the target.

Tudor was incensed when a free kick was awarded for his foul on Pirlo and was booked for taking his protests too far, pushing the referee on the chest.

Mirante smothered another Ambrosini strike from the edge of the box, but it was substitute Kaka who ensured the points were safe 10 minutes from time. The Brazilian waltzed through the centre of the Siena defence, never allowing the ball to leave his side until he placed a delicate finish into the far corner with the inside of his left foot.

Ambrosini blasted wide from eight yards and Shevchenko's shot was charged down by the goalkeeper when four Milan players poured forward against three Siena men.

Good game, only concern is our attack.. If we have one of our attackers suspended, we dont have other choices because we only have 3 strikers.. Inzaghi is finished.. We must get an attacker in January.. Today I saw Gila exhausted towards the end, if we had Vieri im pretty sure he would have come in very handy, but the problem is that he was suspended..

Gila missed 3 glorious chances, but his control was really good though.. I think he will become very very very useful this season, give him a couple of more games.. When Kaka came on Milan start playing alot better, I hope this means that we will see a tremendous season from Kaka.. Shevchenko also sent a warning to Europe with his goal today

According to eurosport comments they were walking on a thin line... i think there were 2 other 1vs1 with dida (we're lucky to have him) and crappy defending from set-pieces. That needs to be worked out

Gila needs to open his scoring list, i think he'll be ok then. I just wish he doesn't get selfish and pass when he's not in the best position.

Well, my perspective on saying what I said was based on the fact that Milan had created a number of chances themselves and really to say we were walking on a thin line is a little bit of an exaggeration, as Siena never really had control over us.

However, I haven't deemed this to be a great performance (in fact, I said satisfactory) because the side needs to continue working on many areas. There are frailties in defence and on set pieces, but really it will take a little time to sort out these issues and they are expected a little early in the season when the side isn't 100% yet. However, the sooner we deal with the problems the better.

But, this match does not forbode our season. Juve, Chelsea and pretty much any other top club in the world has looked a little shaky in the first game or two this season as they are still getting fully prepared, so its a natural process.

At this point, all I can say for certain is that this was a positive and big step forward for us (psychologically and physically) as the side can now feel the balls are rolling and the season is in motion. It just so happens there are flaws in there that need working on and Ancelotti must drill into the players the problems that need solving to make sure we become stronger, but this is something that Ancelotti must do after every game, whether it be a loss or a great win.

Definitely a good game by Milan, though I agree with those who said that they should have bagged the three points a lot sooner. Gila wasted a lot of chances today. It's like he is nervous about scoring or something.

Anyhow, we need to improve on defending set-pieces and become more lethal in front of goal, but it was only the second game of the season, so I think that will come in time. Pirlo, Rui Costa and Shevchenko were our best players today (what a stunner by Sheva, btw), and I actually thought our defence was playing very well, for the most part. Wonderful goal by Kaka too.

The team looks ready for the Champions League, and hopefully Vieri will start alongside Sheva instead of Gilardino. It is vital that we get off to a good start, and we can't afford to waste too many chances.

Gila IMO is not yet in good form, he's still slow but i see him improving match after match..today made a lot of work for everyone, such as sheva or the mids (see kaka's goal) with his movements and with holding the ball; when he will be quicker, more reactive and confident he will score with overhead kicks and other stunners. I'm sure.

remember how crespo struggled to hold the ball and his little work rate with the other teammates: Gila plays for the team at least, he's very useful . When on form he will score a lot

LET'S NOT PUT GILA IN DISCUSSION

:1five: Kaka has a double-turbo :1five:

Tonight Stam has been excellent and Rui is like the good wine: with the age, he becomes even better.

I'm worried about Sheva: too much rough fouls on him tonight.

Siena said this season is going :dontkn: to be difficult again: it is really painful to see how difficult is to tame a small team like Siena (but they will remain in 'serie A' if they keep on playing with the same tonight attitude).

By the way, absently, we lost the past campionato just in Siena .....

:diablo: 3 :diablo: deserved points & forza Palermo :1five:

Yeah, I'm not saying that Gila isn't good enough for us or anything. He's just not on form at the moment, and for that reason I think he shouldn't start the next game. I really think that all he needs is to score a goal.

However, I believe Vieri should start the next game, because he needs to gel with the rest of the team too, and he scored a lot of goals for us during the pre-season.

Several very good points have been made here.I think Gila definitely deserves more time, you could see his determination to score, and he will score,as long as he doesn`t put too much pressure on himself(like Rui did...)
Very very good game by Rui,i`m glad he was a starter, beautiful goal by Kaka`,impressive offensive runs by Stam, even though he should still work on his centre shots(but in general he was great) and finally something i couldn`t resist....the way how Serginho dribbled past that guy(forgot his name),with a wonderful turn....amazing.First half was very `fluent` if saying this makes sense,it was beautiful to watch.
A very good result, good game and a good practice for fenerbahce clash.Forza Milan!

Gila didn't need to add a fourth, it would have been nice but pointless, Sheva looks on fine scoring form just now so I'm not worried.

besides, if you recall last two season, it was after christmas that Gila really began tallying them up, in the first season he wasn't a regular starter until Adriano left in january then he just started scoring like there was no tomorrow.

First half Sheva was just 'shock and awe' ... never ceases to amaze me.
A little worried with those set pieces again as our defense have a knack for giving the crosses in the air.
Gila is not a worry ... it takes time for a player to adapt to a new team..the system and mentality is totally different than Parma where he was the "GO TO" guy in offense. I know he will explode in the very near future.

Is it me or does CHIESA just play with a certain "vigor" when he plays Milan?? He didn't do much damage but the fire in his eyes versus Milan is always evident..
Also, anyone notice assistant coach Antonio Conte with Siena...that team is like a Juve #2!

We really took command on this game just as I like it. It made my mood go up a bit. Now we did have as mentioned problems on crosses, obviously including set pieces. We a bit of unluck this could have gone bad, but now the result mirrored the game. Serginho, Shevchenko and Rui played really nice. Rui narrowdly missed several passes that could have resulted in goals, he didn't have margins on his side. Shevchenko just looks so much better than his opponents that it is scary. Serginho managed to have a nice full game for once and didn't waste the ball much.

good decision to put on Kaka late, he is a great counterattacker and when coming in they had no plan how to stop him.

you know how in NFL american football there is many coaches one for defense , one for offense, one for special plays and crap. maybe milan should get someone who specialises in set peaces and train our guys on how to defend and what to do on offense

milan is terrible on set pieces both offensively and defensively. period. i was very surprised last year against inter on CL where we scored by set pieces ( stam, sheva )

impossible. a 3 man defence with sergio and cafu on the flanks? you know what that means? it means there is only one CB. Sergio and Cafu are not defenders. They are only defenders by name - they are essentially classic wingers. Against Siena we only played with two defenders - Paolo and Sandro.

Aldough we won, I have to say I really dont like the way we are playing our defence. We are just standing back 35m in front of our goal and we are letting too much crosses in to the box. Where is CM??? Seedorf cant press at all, pirlo never could. But pirlo is a genious and we need him, problem is that we actually dont look as fit as we should. We should press more man to man in the middle, so we take the ball away instantly. We played like that when we won scudetto, remember? And our conter attacks need to be more organized, and shooting from outside the box?? Where is that? I think we lack team control by Carlo. What do you think?? Too much creativity ( sometimes it can be too much of that), we need simpler solutions in front of goal.

Wow, it seems here is one who has not seen the match!! - and jums on the "Seedorf sucks" bandwagon! Ambro played a decent match yes, but Seedorf were way better than Rui Costa who, in my opinion, lacked pace and lost a lot of balls in midfield. Also, when he loses a ball, I hate his attitude - like "that was poor, but I am not going to get the ball back"... he just stops up and looks around...

Nadir
11-09-2005, 16:21
hey don't put down the number 10 RUI COSTA. He is not meant to be a ball winner - he is meant to be a creative playmaker. If he chases every ball, he's gonna run of steam to be inventive.

well ambro has been playing well, seedorf was solid, and i thought carlo should have started kaka instead of rui costa. he should try the following lineup:

-------------dida--------------

--------pirlo------ambro-------

cafu-------kaka--------serginho

------gilardino-----shevchenko--

rui costa is good, but not good enough to put kaka in the bench....if both kaka and rui costa play, we'll be too offensive unless we play with one striker, shevchenko.

The Post Match AC Milan VS Siena 3-1

The result itself reflect the power AC Milan posses, every player looked enjoy the game ( No wonder Stam and Seedorf feel a little dissapointed when Carlo replaced them ), the game must cheer every Milan fans, after the draw result we have against Ascoli. See how Stam pass the ball through the opponent several time and launch some inacurate crossing? about him being replaced by Cafu, I think Carlo saw it was too dangerous to see Stam play much offensive and sometimes abandon his duty to guard the right flank.
And for Rui Costa, he is not play bad at all. He can struck the opponent's penalty area but always come with his inacurate finishing. Carlo may see Rui didn't give much contribution to Gilardino or Sheva so he decided to install Kaka as well ( Pirlo and Serginho pass the ball several times to Gila or Sheva than Rui does ). But overally he play his role as a playmaker well.

And for Gilardino, hmm....man, maybe the burden to score his first league goal for AC Milan is too heavy in his ownmind, too heavy until he can't finish an excellent opportunity. As a Targetman, he is well marked by two defender at a time.
Hope he can score his first senior goal for AC Milan at Istanbul this wednesday.

yes i agree on the rotation and seeing alot of the players played last week for their countries we need to use all the players that stayed behind and they did pretty well.
i was impressed by them all they really played well but they seemed like at times they were like passing the ball round they should have finished them off i was worried at times they were gone score the second and draw.
About Gila i am not worried he will come back to his best and start scoring he will get there and see how well he get used to it.
just happy to see inter lost they think they won it and they think they all that poor mancini he feels he won the Super cup and Italian cup makes him feel like he is better then the rest lol.
he better stick to one formation at least his players know what they ment to do other then see new faces every week lol :w212:

but any how it was great game wat worries me most is that damn dead ball where they can score at will seems like we cant even deffend anythin that comes in from Corner or free kick and that problem is still there these weak teams can kill us on that.
and that seems pretty scary. the problem is that our mid field players are all short if u compare them to Juve when it comes to clearin the coner when u have emerson and vieria but when u have pirlo, Gattsuo, Cafu and Seedorf u do get hard time deffeding like Tudor.

This is the best single thing to come from this match, apart from the win...

If we are to be serious protagonists for both competitions, we will need to have a rotation in place that allows for the retention of chemistry, while allowing players valuable and necessary rest. I am estatic that Carlo started Rui, and at his substitutions. (For a change):D Seems someone has been reading milanmania posts! Hmmmmm....

The fact that Ambro started over Gattuso, may mean that the former Rangers man will be given the nod for the Fener game...but I hope he starts on the bench again..he is a disruptor, and should be put on when we need to disrupt our opponents game, as he oftentimes disrupts our own game...:rollani:

WHAT A STRIKE FROM SHEVA!!!!! HE IS THE BEST FORWARD IN THE WORLD...WITH NO EXCEPTIONS. period. His overall game was astonishing, and once Gila starts to score (which he will, just remember Crespo´s slow start) we will have an unstoppable attack.

Kaka was a breath of fresh air, while had Rui played an extremely good game. His final passes were intercepted often, but nevertheless, I enjoyed watching him make fools of the Siena defense....it was a deflected shot or pass I believe that perfectly set up Sheva for his wonder strike.

Carlo seems to be on the right track, but as has been suggested, we may need an NFL type defensive coach so our defense is not "defen-sieve" , ie sieve like on set plays.:moan: There will be teams that are better on crosses from corners and free kicks than Siena, and we could suffer from carlessly conceded goals if this isnt rectified fast.

I totally agree with Nadir (I think) who posted that come January, we need to look at strengthening the defense.

We played well though, for long stretches of the game, and looked threatening on several occasions, where with a little more luck and calmer finishing, we could have scored even more goals.

3 points in the bag however. FORZA MILAN!!! Now on to Sampdoria! (A totally different proposition, coming on the heels of a UCL game, but hey, we are MILAN.)
