Chelsea defender William Gallas could be the heir to Marcos Cafu and confirmed he is looking for a move to Milan.
“I have to admit I don’t know if I’ll be at Chelsea next season,” the defender told ‘The News of the World.’
“Maybe I need a new challenge. I’ve been here since 1999 and of course I’ve enjoyed it, but there are some massive clubs out there who might prove tempting to me. I remember when a France team-mate told me once: ‘When you wear the Milan shirt, it shows you have succeeded.’ That makes you think.”
It’s likely the fellow Bleus star who told Gallas of this experience was Marcel Desailly, who moved to Chelsea towards the end of his career after winning the Champions League, European Supercup and two Serie A titles with the San Siro giants.
The Rossoneri are looking for a right-back to be groomed as the heir to Brazilian Cafu, as the World Cup winner is now 35 years old.
Gallas is said to be dismayed at the fact Chelsea team-mates Frank Lampard and John Terry earn triple his wages and is willing to buy out the remaining two years of his contract for £2.5m in order to negotiate a better deal in the summer.
The Frenchman can play both as a central defender and at right-back, allowing him to cover several roles in the Rossoneri back four.
Above all, he would cut down the average age of the defence amid Paolo Maldini (37), Alessandro Costacurta (39), Cafu (35) and Jaap Stam (33).
  .. |We should sign this guy. How old is he btw?? well anyway i think that we really should work on getting him. He is versitile at the defence.

He's 27/28, entering his prime now.
He wont join as a replacement for Cafu. His main problem at Chelsea is they play him out of position, he wants to play as a centre back but they use him on the left and right when they have injuries, so if he joins Milan it will be to be used as a centre back. If Milan cant guarentee him a CB role then he will probably go to Barca instead as they will, which would be Milans loss as he is a terrific defender......

Once he comes here, I am sure he will play whereever he is asked to - this is Milan not some ****ty London club that until 3-4 months ago hadn't won a decent trophy in more than half a century ... and obviously he knows it, thanks to that mysterious teammate from the French NT  .
At 28, he is at his best and at Chelski he has vastly improved compared to that very promissing talent he was at Marseille. At Milan he would get even better for he would be able to learn from the best :firedev: .
I would love to see this guy join us. The fact that he would be out of contract in the summer would make this deal so much sweeter :) :firedev:

agreed...great player who would bring steely resolve to the backline...young too

Agreed. As far as I know Milan have shown no interest so far and it looks like the plan is for Alex to partner Nesta.
I hope he doesn't come to milan. we need someone with abslute class like chivu or alex.

Dont read so much into that, he's just name dropping to make his point to the Chelsea management ;)
To be honest i dont think he will leave them, Mourinho likes the Terry-Gallas partnership and considers it his first choice, the only reason Gallas has been out of position recently is that Del Horno was injured and with Bridge out too they have no LB cover.

True but after 6 years with the same club - and by the end of this season he will have been there for exactly 6 years - it should come as no surprise if he is looking for a new challenge. Plus Chelski seem to be onto Kompany so if they do get him, that move would make the loss of Gallas far less painful.
We'll see what happens in the next half year or so but I don't think this is just to make Chelski up the ante on the negotiation table.
Gallas will come if he wants to leave. If he says that he dreams of Milan and means it then he is ours to lose. He's got his concepts right. His age is right. He is quick, agile and a superb man-marker. With Nesta organising and Gallas man-marking it would be superb.
The price shouldn't be that much as he will buy himself out of contract next Summer. It is all upto Gallas and Milan now. It is out of Chelsea's hands. :devs: Fester will be drooling at the thought of getting a classy CB like Gallas for peanuts. :grinser:
I do not think he is what we need. He is not awinger as Steph has said. So he wont cover Cafu. Maybe he is worth to be a sub of Stam but IMO we have better options for that. He is to expencive. We can only get him if we do not have to pay anything, otherwise I do not spend money on him. I prefer italian players to french, espacially when talk is about Milan.
My verdict is NO.

It would be a mistake not to make a move for such a player. He has already shown that he wants to come here and our CB's arent getting any younger. Unless Chivu is already coming we should definitly pick up Gallas. It's not like there is a large amount of classy centre backs available on the market.
Milan play down Gallas talk
By Peter ORourke - Created on 10 Oct 2005
Milan have played down speculation linking them with a move for Chelsea's William Gallas.
Gallas raised doubts over his future at Stamford Bride over the weekend by suggesting that he could move on.
The French international is considering moving on after over five years at the West London outfit.
Gallas had indicated that he would be interested in a move to Milan if he were to leave Chelsea, but the Italian giants insist they have no plans to sign the former Marseille man.
"It gives us pleasure that Gallas shows affection for us," said Milan sporting director Ariedo Braida.
"But we won't make a move for him."Yeah, Braida kicked him off.
i dont think we wont move for him just because braida denied it... how many times have we seen this happen before? ... it even happened with gila, i think gallas will become a rossonero

Galliani only said we will not get Gila if his price tag remains the same, then 2 days later he confirmed that we are still after him. No one said that we will not be getting him.
I cant remember Braida doing a Moggi before.
im not sure what he said exactly or when he did, but im 1000% sure before talks heated up that our management denied us buying gila, and not only him, most players we got have been through te same situation, jankulovski as well i think.
besides that, i mean no offense but why are u always so negative? ur never show signs of hope, ur always critisizing some1 over some simple thing, u never believe we will do anything. no offense offcourse

if i remain a pessimist, and get the thing that everyone is talking about, i will be really happy.. if i become optimistic and say that we have already signed Gallas, and then we dont, i will be very disappointed.. but even if we do get him, it wont feel that good.. after Milan, who had the best defence in europe, were leading a champions league final vs an english team 3-0, lost that game, i will never take anything for granted anymore.. not only in football, but in everything..
anyway, i just thought u were mistaken when u said we denied getting gilardino, so i thought i'd correct that.. didnt mean it in any other way

thats a very strange way to do things... if theres anyone in the world that doesnt take things for granted its me... but theres no need to all through that, why do u stress ur self?... think of it this way, whatever happens was meant to be and deal with it no need for making something big out of it, thats what i do
