Di Vaio set for Italian switch
Wednesday 12 October, 2005
Marco Di Vaio looks destined for a January return to Serie A after being told he has no future at Valencia.

The Italian international has struggled to settle in La Liga and boss Quique Sanchez Flores has confirmed he is not a key figure at the club.

"He does some good things now and again, but he is not in my plans at this moment in time," said the Spaniard.

"I have explained all this to him in a meeting that we recently had together."

A New Year transfer now looks likely and his agent insists there will be interest in his client.

"His name could crop up in relation to the Italian market in January," Franco Zavaglia told the Guerin Sportivo magazine.

"The likes of Inter and Milan could make a move for him because they are two clubs who have admired him for years."

The Nerazzurri may be very keen seeing as they could lose Obafemi Martins after Christmas to the African Cup of Nations.

Di Vaio, who shot to fame at Parma, joined Valencia in he summer of 2004 after a £7m fee was agreed with Juventus.

I think he would be a very good choice, not to mention a perfect one, for a fifth striker. Di Vaio is class only has been quite unfortunate in his career so far. He is a player who could score and create and IMO he would be quite a valuable addition to Milan.

IMO there are betters way for us to spend our money...Di Vaio will be 30 next July ... Assuming Inzaghi comes back to form (somewhat) and Vieri begins scoring plus not to mention 23 year old Gilardino we must ask ourselves whether we really need a soon to be 30 year old striker with a few years left...

I don't think so.

One of the best things about getting di vaio is that he would be very very cheap. Actually, Valencia would be profitting even if they let him go for free since they certainly don't wanna play him at all.
This and his vast Serie A and Cl experience could be quite "attractive" points for the management to go for someone like Di Vaio.
Although I believe that a team like Milan does need 5 strikers, I am guessing it will all depend on how Inzaghi does in the months till Christmas - if he manages to escape injuries, we probably won't be spending money on forwards.
