Ok we won, good result against Schalke. I believe all of you have watched a big chunk of Milan games this season. We are seriously playing well below our standards. If our play does not improve exponentially against Inter, this season is a slowly sinking. You know in the past two seasons, even though we found it hard to beat low to mid-level teams there was always a high level of confidence that our positive and clinical play would see us through.I don't see none of that this season. 14 league games into the season we are struggling too much. I always listen open heartedly to comments from in the forum about areas we should improve. And I like the good judgement of people like Triniman and Laudrup, who always offer positive analysis, after Milan has had some missteps. But Rastaman watching Milan this season has got to give you some mini ulcers, even though we are second in the league.
But the way Milan are playing this season is a major cause of concern. After Milan beat Juve, I remember posting that we played like crap, and that there was nothing positive we could draw from that result. People abused me on that forum; yet can any serious, diehard football, Milan fan or not disagree with me that if Juve played us on Sunday we would lose. Juve are a few notches above us, not just in play, but in points.
Most of you will point to the noticeable fact that the season is still young. And I know that its not how you start but how you finish. Milan are still in first gear, and we are finding it hard to get to second. By January we should be kicking serious ass, and not losing gimme matches like Chievo.

It came at a good time, we have overcome our slump and have we have collected 10 points out of our last 4 matches. Adriano has started scoring again, Il Capitano and Stankovic are back and in fine form. We really need this victory, Juve has pretty much run away witht lo scudetto but this is about pride and honor. Sooner or later, your luck will run out in the derby's.

Expected lineup

Adriano-Martins

Stankovic-Cambiaso-Veron-Figo

Favalli-Samuel-Cordoba-Zanetti

Personally, I would want El chino to start, he's been on good form lately but he picked a knock versus Ascoli. Although, Im sure Martins pace will cause havoc in your backline...hope Stam and Maldino dont break their hips. Cambiaso and Figo have started scoring as well, 4 so far from Cambi and 2 in the last 2 matches played by Figo.

We promise not to hurt Dida this time around....(crossing fingers)

Milan Wont lose so easily even though we did't play well in the last few games.Even the games VS Schalke we won but i think not many milan fan is impressed. We still not on our usual standart of play but that not mean that Inter will win with their form now.even in the games agains Ascoli Inter only won by a free kick form Andriano. our only weaknest will be in defence but with the assist form the midfield we can overcome that....

milan should just let inter play football and than hit them on the counter, something we did in istanbul and against juve. That way there will be no space for martins and adriano.

This is the kind of game where form has no value. The team that makes the fewest mistakes will win.

After my doom and gloom post re the UCL, I will continue that trend in the hope that we glean a victory from my pragmatisim :D

Suffice it to say, I just hope we win.

FORZA MIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIILAN!!

Any bets on a draw? Though to be honest, I doubt either side will be satisfied with that score line, as it allows Juve to just move further ahead in the standings.

I agree that we look better on the counter though...

Speaking of the score, we have beaten Inter so many times recently (sorry BFC82)
that statiscally we shouldn't win this time...

but we're just so much better, we can't help it ;)

I'd say 1-0 Milan... Gilardino

Certainly the derby raises blook pressure, but to run out winners, we gotta take it as any other game. For those of you that say defence is bad, i dissagree. It is not great, and i have said that as well, but most of our goals come from set pieces. And set pieces my friends is the part where the whole team defends. So if Sheva leaves his man free, then why are you all blaming the defence. If it wasn't for the goals from set pieces, we would have concided about 6 goals less now.(just from what i can remember; the number might be different) Stop pointing fingers at the defence because it just puts more pressure on them. Nobody is invincible and everyone makes mistakes. The goals against Shalke, one was Sheva's fault, the other one was a midfielder's fault(maybe Gattuso,,,cudn't really see on the highlights). So what is the defence suposed to do when your midfielder gifts the ball right in front of your goal. Don't kill the back line. Defending is a job done by the whole team. If your midfielder gives away the ball, or doesnt cover and lets the opposition run at the back line, then please do not blame the defenders for having to back-track with a guy running 100km at them. Same goes with the set pieces. If someone loses their man, you can't say we have poor defence. It is a team thing, and that is exactly what this team needs to start doing.

I might have gotten a little off topic, but i read everywhere that our defence is the weakes point, which it really isnt. The defenders have given some beautiful games and set pieces have killed us. Plus that, the media is shoving this thing in our throats. They keep saying stuff that just puts pressure on our defenders.

Back to the derby, It will be probably the hardest game of the year so far. We have Juve running away from us, and Inter catching up. We HAVE to win. I don't care who Carlo chooses as long as we win. In the end, he sees these guys play every day while we only see them for 90 minutes in the week. So that's why I think he knows who is more ready and what is the right line up. Be ready for anything, and please do not shout for Carlo's departure if things go wrong.(lets pray they don't) We are more then capable of beating any team in the world. "Mighty" Chelsea got the same ammount of points as us in the CL. It only happened that their groups played out to be a safer one and they had a game to spare. Lets give the team some confidence.
Inter is playing good at the moment, but we always turn it on in the big games. I look forward to another great derby and another magnificent win.

Milan - Inter : 3-0 (Sheva,Sheva,Sheva........ :delol: I just want him to make up for the missed chances in the past couple of games......If not Gila can sneak one in there as well) FORZA MILAN........F*CK INTER!

KAKA': 'Now for the derby'
12/8/2005
MILAN - Il Corriere dello Sport reported what Ricky Kakà had to say: 'To feel the man of the moment is something special. I feel good because I have helped Milan. The secret to a great game is faith. My faith is always simple, thank you God for the opportunity to play in a great team. As for anything else ... after the two goals I went to sleep at 4. Now that we have overcome Schalke I am convinced we we will also win the derby.'

an intresting article from soccernet.com on the derby:

Stage set for Milan showdown

MILAN, December 8 (Serie A) - AC Milan and Internazionale will be playing for more than bragging rights in this weekend's top Serie A game with the derby result also having serious repercussions in the race for the Scudetto.

Both teams go into Sunday's encounter full of confidence after their midweek Champions League results allowed them to claim the top spot in their respective groups.

Milan bounced back from last weekend's defeat at Chievo, which left them eight points behind Serie A leaders Juventus, with a 3-1 triumph against Schalke courtesy of Brazilian international Kaka.

'Now that we have beaten Schalke, I am certain that we can win the derby,' said Kaka, who struck twice on Tuesday.

Milan know only a win will do against the Nerazzurri, who drew 1-1 at Rangers on Wednesday but are just two points behind the Rossoneri in the league.

'If we win we will surpass Milan in the standings but the tournament is still very long,' said Inter coach Roberto Mancini.

A draw at the San Siro would only benefit Juve and Fiorentina, with Fabio Capello's league leaders looking to extend their advantage over both Milan outfits when they take on struggling Cagliari at the Delle Alpi Stadium.

The Bianconeri, who have only lost two encounters out of 20 this campaign, go into the clash inspired by their midweek 3-1 triumph at Rapid Vienna which saw them clinch top spot in Champions League Group A.

All eyes will be on an in-form Alessandro Del Piero, who is only one goal away from becoming Juve's all-time leading goalscorer having equalled the record 182 goals set by Bianconero legend Giampiero Boniperti on Wednesday night.

Fiorentina are looking to bounce back from last weekend's painful 2-1 slip against Juve and a victory against 19th-placed Treviso could see the Viola climb to second in the standings, provided the clash at the San Siro ends in a draw....

Kaka hoping for happy "away" day
9.12 || webmaster || $source

Source: Football Italia

With the build-up to the Milan derby gathering pace, Kaka has revealed his intention to break his away goal drought against Inter on Sunday.

Much has been made of Milan’s recent slump in form. Two defeats in three Serie A matches is hardly the ideal preparation for the game those in Lombardy refer to as ‘la partitissima’ - ‘the match of matches’.

Inter, by contrast, have been sneaking up on the rails after three wins over the same period and, as Roberto Mancini predicted three weeks ago, the Nerazzurri have now made up ground on their arch rivals – a fact that Kaka and Co are all too aware of.

"Inter are playing well," agreed the Brazilian. "They have come back to life and are enjoying a good spell in the title race and in Europe."

A fourth straight win would see Mancini’s men leapfrog Milan and move into second place and it is this possibility that has focused the minds of Kaka’s colleagues at Milanello.

"It’s a derby and that’s what makes it all the more scary," admitted the attacking midfielder. "Inter could even overtake us, but that is what is giving us that extra motivation."

There are fears among Milan fans that their arduous European campaign - which saw them narrowly defeat Schalke 04 to qualify for the next round of the Champions League on Tuesday night - has taken its toll on Carlo Ancelotti’s side, but Kaka insists that this fixture makes you forget tired legs.

"I don’t think that tiredness comes into it," he said. "When you play in a derby it fires you up more and you forget everything else."

Kaka is enjoying another fine season in Milan colours, although one area in need of improvement is his poor scoring record away from home.

The 23-year-old has yet to hit the target on the road this season, but will be hoping that with this ‘away’ match taking place at the San Siro, he won’t have any problems on that score.

"I haven’t scored away from home yet but I don’t think about it," he claimed. "Hopefully, I can break that duck on Sunday when I’ll be playing at ‘home’ against the Nerazzurri."

Maldini is injured, so I think it's ok that Kaladze plays in his place. The alternative as I see it, would have been to play Simic at right back and Stam in the middle together with Nesta. But I don't think either of those two options are much better than the other... I'm confident.

CB is probably the most important position on the whole field. With Stam and Nesta in CB and Simic at RB, we would have players in positions they have been playing for quite some time and that could hardly be called "experimental". On the otehr hand, when was the last time Kaladze played in CB alongside Nesta?
IMO, the only reason why Carlo would do this is if Simic's condition has deteriorated as a result of that head clash vs Schalke. Otherwise, I just don't see why carlo would go with kaladze at CB given his less than impressive outings this season.

On the game: as mentioned, the penalty vs Inter was BS by the ref - a free kick by Pirlo hits Cambiasso in the head and the ball ricochets into Figo's hand, I think (or maybe it was Stankovic). That was ball to hand as both Cambiasso and Figo were in the wall - no intention at all, but the ref tried to make up for his earlier mistake, I guess.

Nesta shouldnt have had a card in the first place. The players are obviously not as fresh as the scum. I would like to see stam go central and Janku go rightback(I know hes left footed). Possibly Inzaghi and Rui too.

shevagol_7
11-12-2005, 15:27
Upon looking at Milan's penalty I'm not sure how contraversial that was. Yes there was no way the Inter player could have moved his hand away. However his hand as already up around where the ball was and if you look closely enough at the replay you can see him move his hand towards the ball pull it back then have it touch his hand.

Inter's penalty was a total sham, Nesta was fouled himself then fell onto the ball. The worst is that, Nesta's yellow means he misses the next match and is skating on thin ice here.

Yeh, but we must be honest and say that Nesta deserved a yellow card already. Not with the penalty kick, but with the foul on Adriano at the end of the first half.

We seem to be more tired for they had the luxury of resting most of their 1st team players midweek, while we had a do or die game vs Schalke.
What I think we need to do is take one striker off and put in either Rui or Janku in so that we are able to control midfield with less effort on the side of Seedorf, Pirlo, and Gattuso.

I haven't been a fan of Carlo, but the score is not his fault. Only fault may be his decision to play Kaladze at CB, but it's iffy. Kaladze's foul did lead to Inter's 2nd goal. We're low on defenders, so maybe there was little choice. Personally, I'd rather Kaladze than Costacurta.

Look, every coach has his own way of coaching a team and directing his players. Mancio has been screaming at them, well, what have they done for the 2 years he has been with them? Point is Mancini was doing something, regardless of how he was delivering his message to the players, even when he was winning. Carlo was doing nothing, regardless of how he delivers the message to his players, unless it's via telepathy? Generally you'd expect a manager to give instructions to players (in their own style obviously) when they obviously need to change things around.

Damn it.. very disappointing performance by milan along with the last 3 games, schalke, chievo, lecce..i hope berlusconi comes out and fks them over.. Sheva's form is a concern..while Gila is sometimes dangerous and not always.. But putting Vieri on like that when we need the win is simply like betting on the 0 when playing Roulette. Seedorf was invisible throughout the game and only started playing well when we were down 2-1. Only credit goes to Kaka who had a really good game and he really was motivated. Pirlo, Gattuso, Seedorf, Jankulovski, Serginho, Nesta, Kaladze all simply lacked it. We really need to improve on setpieces as well as it will harm us in the future.

All the 5 goals today were from set-pieces. And about their 2nd goal, i am not a world-class goal keeper, but i certainly know that from a freekick like that, Dida is supposed to try to push the ball to the side and not try to catch it which ended up in it being rebounding straight to Martins at the 6 yard box. Shameful to lose like this, we didnt even try to win.. When we drew we simply sat back and happily defended. We just kept shooting the ball from defence to Vieri who never controlled it. It was as if we were defending a 2-0 lead in a Champions league final!

I mean, FOR FK SAKE, 4 games in a row now, all with disappointing performances like these? Who's fault is it? I think its Ancelotti's fault for not putting in the right motivation/mentality into the players. His sub's r just awful, i dont know why he has a star-sudded squad but only uses the same starting 11 over and over unless someone gets injured.

Juventus are superior this year, and they deserve the title. No one can catch them. Out focus now must be the 2nd place and direct qualification to next years Champions League.
Inter were better today - they deserved it.. But our defence definately need some new faces in the summer. Players like Simic, Kaladze and Serginho are decent - but not Milan class.. Try to compare them to Juves...
Well, the are still alive in the Champions League... Here is how I rate the players:
Dida - should have done better with Inter's second goal.
Stam - okay, match. Good goal and decent in defence.
Nesta - okay match. Controlled the defence well until his injury.
Kaladze - really shaky. Were is the Kaladze from 2-3 years back?
Serginho - some okay crosses, but he is not defender in my eyes.
Gattuso - fought as always, but lost many balls.
Pirlo - Lost too many balls, and were under constant pressure from the Inter midfield.
Seedorf - tried hard... Many really hates him before the season, but I think he has been one of our best players this season.
Kaka - good match. Deserved a goal.
Sheva - not his best match. We did not see him, but credit must go to Samuel for that.
Gilardino - okay match, some decent chances.
Vieri - actually played well when he came on. Keep the ball well, and created some half chances.
Simic - Had big problems with Figo.
Jankulovski - did not see him....

anyways, blaming the coach will do little. one goal was from a bullsh!t call from the damn ref. how the f*ck can he make such a call. but if he doesn't make that call we still lose because we can defend against set pieces. dida was horrible in my opinion. the second goal was definitely his fault, and the third goal he could have atleast challenge adriano's header. the ball was played in the small area for crying out loud. those balls should always be a keepers.

from all this i was only impressed of one thing. Kaka is definitely the best player in the world. he was dominating and not even veron or cambiasso had an answer for him. he were unlucky that his shot hit the post, but winners find a way to win. that has been the theme this whole season. and from the way things have been playing out, it looks like we dont have a winning side. sheva was again crap, and giladirno had his momnets but failed, again!, to score.

furthermore, we played a great attcking game. if we just learn to play the whole game, we can salvage the season with winning the Copa Nazionale and maybe even the CL. i cant stress this enough, but if we keep giving goals from set pieces the season will be over pretty soon. i dont about the rest of you, but i get pretty pissed when we play a beautiful game, control the midfield, create many chances but lose the game in set pieces. we tend to just watch the ball get hit towards goal and expect dida to be superman. but when he gives up rebounds and theres no one near the ball, that just gets me going crazy.

i still think we can win the scudetto, but we need to put emphasis on the scudetto over the champions league. that was our problem last year when we were thinking about psv and ended losing to bottom tier teams because we fielded a second string team.

forza milan!!!

I think we didn't play badly, unless you compare to our peak standard.

Meanwhile, nobody seems to care about our defense (because of injurY) but jump right at the coach. Typical.

Only a few played at least a decent game, like Kaka or Jaap. But Inter didnt play any better than us, I think a draw was the most logical score. But still, congratulations to all Inter fans.

Now I wouldnt be surprised if Carlo is fired....not after this game, but if Milan is eliminated in the next 2 rounds of the UCL.

Tassoti or Cesare Maldini. I think Carlos days are numbered, i dont think its good to have the same manager for more than 4 years. Look at Sacchi and Capello, they both did 4 years.

Milan have played really poor this year. I blame Galliani more than Carlo, Milan should have made more signings over the summer, its pretty stupid not to notice that Milan have an ageing Defense.

Agreed, he should be given some time for what he has managed to achieve with us. However, I would say an early exit from the CL should more or less spell the end. I would give him till the end of the season and assess from there, find out what his plans are for major reinforcing of an aging team, especially in defence. Beyond that I'm not too sure, I have my doubts at this point in time. There's been too many strange collapses in our game plan at times in his reign, and that concerns me.

As for managers, our policy is for past Milan players, so that's Donadoni, Tassotti or Marco van Basten in the hat at least. Personally I'm quite tempted at Guss Hiddink, he's a good analyst of the game and I think he could do well if he was given proper control.

Good game....good second half from us...he had inter under the gun....they just gave that little extra, plus a bit of luck with their first goal...

all in all though a great game.....congrats to inter for finally making the derby competitive.....

as for us....my team always has my full support.....always...players, coaches and staff....

Rastman, I second your comments, and those calling for Carlo's job, are quasi Milan fans. Back to the game, I agree that Milan played very well, and we simply were unlucky. Milan will improve.

Hiddink always seems to manage a good game plan vs us that's for sure! I'm confident he could adapt to Italian football due to being an obsessive analyst of the game.

I'm sure Marco would be good, but I think it's a little too soon for him, maybe 4 more years more experience before we should approach him. The fans adore Marco, and personally he's one of my all time favs with Paolo.

Do you really believe that it is Carlo, who makes these decisions on what players come to and go away from Milan? Money rules it all, Carlo is just an employee, who works with whatever and whoever they ask him to.
IMO, Milan's main problem is that we laid back and relied on the same players over and over again, year after year, without adding major quality to increase competiotion and keep the guard high. When you do that, after some time complacency settles in and determination and consistency disappear. This is how you get the all so usual in football periods of success, followed by more mediocre year(s). The only way to keep the cycle going and going, without interruptions, is to input fresh blood, something our management has not done as well as they should have for all this has to do with spending money, and businessmen like Silvio and Galliani hate to do this.
Our problem this year isn't lack of quality but lack of those two things - consistency and determination - and we are falling victims of our own success and toothless transfer policy over the past 3-4 years. And in the end, the man who has the least guilt for that - Carlo - will be the one that finger will be pointing at.

I agree.

What kind of nonsense is it to start saying that anyone who wants Carlo out is not a real fan. We support Milan not any individual, certainly not any manager. Such a big gap beteen us and Juve is disgraceful. The way we underperform so commonly is disgraceful. Ancelotti is only relying on moments of brilliance and is lacking ideas. If we all lived in a wonderful red and black world where there was no accountability and we accepted excuses every time we lose we wouldnt win anything. Dumping the team at that point would class you as a fake fan, but being p!ssed off about it happening means you care!

I am dissapointed!!! The refree was terrible, we were unlucky, but not concentrated enough again. We played some great soccer, Kaka simply is unbelievable, unstoppable!!
He was the best on the pitch. We have a great future in him:)
But I see problems, and these are the followings:
We were too slow and not aggressive enough. It seemed to me, that we dont really want to win.
Dida is shadow of himself. Easy goals, not concentrated.
Maybe Carlo is not as motivated as past years.
But I go further.
Our summer campaign was not adequate!
We miss one first rate midfilder, who is fast and creative. Dhorasoo left, nobody arrived!! We should have one like Lampard, who is a true leader and can score much.
In my opinion Gilardino was a mistake signing. He is still young, but unfortunately I see day by day, that he is not Milan class. he is good, but we need other type of strikers.
Milan doesn't need strikers like Bierhoff, Vieri, Gilardino.
They are slow strikers, that can not break the defense. We should have bought strikers like Henry, Tevez etc. They are awsome, fast, they can dribble and not just hold the ball. It is fun to watch them. Like Kaka, if we don't have Kaka we would be almost nowhere:(
Just see Barcelona up front. Only quick players, that can dribble, and make any defense shaky.
Defense: Not bad, we have to realize, that our last year defense did not play together so much this season. Of course we need some fresh blood, but not only that why we are struggling.
So maybe the scudetto race will be tough, but not impossible. I also believe, we have a chance to win the CL if we have everybody back, and we will be lucky too.
I did not change too much on our current team, I only add 4 players in the summer.
1 fast striker
1 midfilder
2 defense
And we will be unbeatable again!!!!!!
Forza MILAN :)

Instead of sitting down, think about what has gone wrong, which department is not doing right etc, some people take the heuristic here that by changing coach, everything will change.

Be realistic. If the problem is here for Carlo, the problem is here for everyone.

And I wonder how people can come to the conclusion that other coaches can solve the issue. I'm not saying that they can't, but I'm not saying that Carlo can't either.

If you say Van Bastan can because he brings Nevertheland to the WC or winning however games in a row, then Carlo has brought us a lot of trophy in the past too.

The fact is: Past doesn't count. What one does now counts for the future.

I don't see anything wrong that Carlo put on right now. Ok u can switch to 3-5-2 or anything you like but hey, you know what, you think you know better than the coach?

Everyone knows that Galliani and co handle the transfers for the club, however Carlo must have some sort of input on what players he needs and what players he doesn't. Take a look at past managers, Zaccheroni, Tabarez etc have requested players and have been granted some of those. Becuase of past flops Galliani is not more tight fisted than ever, which makes Carlo's job all the more difficult. He's won honours with us so he has at least got some credibility to his name to be able to make the request.

I was surprised about the lack of action in the summer to reinforce our squad, I think more players were needed to be shifted around not only to get over the hangover of istanbul, but to bring some needed enthusiasm. Every year you should always seek to improve your team, not just sit on what you have. Gila and Janka are two good singings, and it's a shame Janka doesn't get used more often now that he's fully fit. I assumed it was a given we would have gone for a centre half or right back (or both) in the summer given that Maldini was obviously going to retire the end of this or next season as that would have less impact and provide a smoother squad transition. To a degree I put the responsibility on Carlo for that.

I definitely agree with you about consistency and determination, and put in desire as well, that's something I have voiced at consistently all this year.

Although on paper the defence looked horrible (Simic-Stam-Kaladze-Serginho), the defenders didn't made any silly usual mistakes. We conceeded a goal from a penalty, another one from a rebound (Dida has some fault, maybe also Kaladze) while the 3rd one is Dida's fault. It practically a photocopy of the Poulsen's goal vs Schalke. The ball was crossing from the small box and Dida made 2 steps forward and another 2 behind. WTF?? IMO he needs some rest, even Shevchenko he's out of form, while Gilardino at least was fighting for every ball.
Then the ref made some stupid decisions like inter's penalty which wasn't and invented the foul that resulted in inter's 2nd goal.

How is that an excuse, Im citing it as a reason. An excuse is when we carry on without solving problems.
It's an excuse for finding the real source of Milan's problems. All too often in football, when a team is having a difficult period, the easiest and most convenient thing is to blame one man, the coach, and give him the boot. And it's much more "unsuitable" to inject 5-10 players into the team for that would cost millions of $$$, or, what would be even more inconvenient, would be for the management to admit that it is they that fvcked things up.
See, by kicking the coach out, everyone else but him is content and happy, with clean hands. Otherwise, many people would have to admit mistakes and that's the last thing we people do readily. In the end, however, the real problem stays with the team and we, the fans, only think it has been dealt with. Now, that's how firing Carlo is an excuse - it's an excuse for tackling the real issue instead of just making lots of people happy by convincing them that everything will be bread and butter again, once the coach is gone.

Moggi whould come in place of Braida, who is our transfer guru. Galliani is the executive director/CEO of Milan.
Anyways, I would welcome that bald motherfvcker with open hands. Then we would know that the scudetto is secured in Italy and we would be able to concentrate on the CL.

In the begining of the season i thought that this will be a milan season with the purchase of GIla and Janku......But it seems that i wrong. Sometimes bringing new player and new coach cant guarntee success just like Madrid. Any way i do ammit that Milan need few quality defender. At least 2 new quality player...That allll..........i dont expect milan to buy 5 or 6 new player like Inter usually does every season.. Maybe just 2 new quality defender will change everything. At this point there's no point in complaining. All I can do is look to our president for help. I wish he can do something soon that'll trigger the players/and coach to do something. An advantage of this bad period is that it has occured just before the winter break. This transfer window, more than ever, is the most improtant one for our transfer directors, and the biggest test to see if we really have good directors handling Milan. I really hope for some new fresh faces in Jan. Ofcourse we dont need to buy 7 players, but one major signing and 2 or 3 others will definitely boost the side. Thankfully we have a 2 month break from CL, so our season is not up just yet.

Looking for a new coach in January is a big mistake as it'll break the team apart. Ancelotti I think is at fault, but also each one of the players deserve to be shouted at for lack of effort in games. Marek was a world-class player before he came to Milan, now we are half way through the season and yet I have not seen one impressive performance from him. There could be many reasons to it as Ancelotti could be the one that does not play him enough so he can find his form, or he does not give him the correct orders so he can play to his full potential, or maybe he just cant handle the pressure. There r many ways to think of situations like these, but atm everyone is pointing the finger at Carlo.

This is wrong guys, although I am one of the first ppl to say i think its Carlo's fault, but he should not be fired. He just needs to be given a threat or something so he can take his job more seriously, along with each and every player. I hope we get rid of Kaladze and Simic and find better substitutes as they are not reliable. They put in 1 good performance every 2 months, that is unacceptable.

Anyway, we have a game vs Messina in 3 days, im curious to see how the team reacts. Keep ur heads up everyone, I still do not think the scudetto race is over. I have a feeling Juve (and Barca) will lose their form towards March/February and will slip up somewhere.

I am not used to complaining, but this has made me sick!
All those three (two) goals came from controversial incidents..

1. The penalty kick
Clearly! Clearly, it was NOT a penalty kick. Martin? pushed Nesta, the referee though Nesta was trying to stop the ball with his arms??

2. The free kick taken by Adriano, that later rebounded by Martin
It was a clean tackle by Kaladze, he even got a yellow card for it?? A free kick should NOT have been given!

3. The corner
I am not sure about this one as I didn't have a chance to watch a replay, could someone check it for me?
I think the ball was touched by an Inter player at the last time, so it should NOT have been a corner!

Now we are 4th, we have to bounce back quickly, and beautifully!
Forza Milan!

im very sad to see my team look so deseprate for solutions in defence?? ... why did we put ourselves in that position?? we were too risky when we didnt sign a backup for cafu! ... its killing us, having a RB that is good but not in the stature of cafu is tough for us, but not having a right back play at all is a serious problem! .. oddo was 3.5M ... were else would u get a class RB with alot of serieA experience and being a milan youth earlier for a cheaper price? ... i dont know why theyre so silent on the cafu case, could some1 please explain to me what the hell is going on with cafu?!

you speak as if we have 10 future Shevas and 10 future Maldinis and Nestas in our youth formation. Giving more chances to the youth ranks is admirable but that gives you little guarantee for success and Milan wouldn't be what we are today if we had followed that policy all these years. There are two teams that spring to mind when it comes to heavily relying on the youth academy - Barca and above all Ajax. Well, Barca, although a big name in football is nowhere near Milan's achievements, while Ajax have won a lot but have also gone through long preiods of anonimity in Europe, something Milan simply cannot afford.
Milan should rely on the youth team for reinforcements but buying "foreign" talent still remains the most secure bet for future success.

I hope I don't get hammered for this - but Milan truthfully does not have a youth academy like PSV/Anderlecht etc.. There ARE some good players, but expecting these players to contribute more than a few games with so little experience under their belts is a tough thing to ask.

I can't believe some folks on this board don't think Milan needs to buy some folks. Milan NEEDS at least 1 more solid defender. My opinion of the backline:

Seginho: Good player, but truly not a LB. Older now anyway, probably can't play every minute every game.

Kaladze: Shadow of his former self. I like him, and believe his form WILL return eventually. Hopefully sooner, rather than later. Has made numerous mistakes.

Maldini: The great one has still been hobbled by injuries. Still a great player, but so far have not been able to count on him 100%. When he's fit, he definately starts. Otherwise, keep him off the bench and let him heal. He's not the type of player to milk injuries, and might even try to pretend to be healthier than he is just to help the team. He's TOO good of a guy!!!

Stam: Good CB, but what if he were to get injured too?

Simic: Seemed to play well in the few minutes he's gotten. I'm still hopeful.

Costacurta: Too old to count on.

Nesta: Still awesome. What if he goes down to a longer injury?

At least 1 defender needs to be signed. I'd prefer 2 (or at least 1 buy and 1 promoted youth player) and not playing Costacurta at all.

I think Milan has got to have the oldest defense in all of Europe.

I'd have to agree, Milan needs to buy

Regarding the game... first off that was some weird refereeing! Two doubtful penalties and I still cant figure out what Nesta did to actually warrant a penalty for Inter. Nevertheless the penalties cancelled out each other

Perhaps I underestimated Inter (they were always somewhat of a joke to me).. but I was abit taken aback by how strongly they came on to Milan.

I've been thinking it for a while now but did our team peak year before last and are we now on the way down? I think so.

We need some freshness in midfield and a revamp of the defence. Dida while being world class has clearly lost confidence and in my opinion thats due to getting a lot less cover these days that in previous seasons. Especially on set pieces.

i cant believe kaladze played as cb, true he has played in cb before but i cant remember the last time he played there. i might be accused as pessimistic, i think our only chance this season is CL (thank god we qualified to second round!), we should be able to finish second in serie A. if milan win no big title this season, ancelotti definitely has to go, the poor team's result is not 100% coach's fault, it is sad but rather than sacking few players it is better to sack the coach. i want donadoni(look at livorno!!!) or van basten as replacement.
dida needs a break, this is the time for kalac to play! i think we still experience istanbul's effect...

Is it possible that Inter beat us out right??? I dont like when we lose any games but we sure as heck cant expect because we are Milan we deserve to win all and everything. Calm in the eye of the storm is what we need from all.
I can understand why anger is the only avenue so many have taken here. Yet what will getting angry do for this club??? All it does is cause you anxiety and unwanted and unneeded stress. Furthermore it is unique at how many believe in the negative possibilities of this season yet fall way too short in having faith in the positive possibilities. I think many should wait til the end of the season and then express whatever emotions that come, but until then any emotion either way is erratic and thus "fickle".

Here are the player ratings according to Gazzetta Dello Sport:

MILAN: Dida 5.5; Stam 6.5, Nesta 5.5 (Simic 6), Kaladze 6.5, Serginho 5.5; Gattuso 5.5 (Jankulovski 5.5), Pirlo 6, Seedorf 5.5; Kakà 6; Shevchenko 5.5, Gilardino 6 (Vieri 5). Coach: Ancelotti 6.

I'm not saying that Gazzetta is always right, but according to these ratings Kaladze was our best player together with Stam. And still a lot of people blames playing Kaladze as a centre-back cost us the game? Actually some people in here blamed Kaladze even before the game... :finger:

Seems like blaming players like Dida, Nesta, Gattuso, Seedorf and Shevchenko would be more right... :dconf:

http://www.milanmania.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19306

Wherein I questioned Carlo making the statement that unfortunately for him, Milan, and us the supporters, has come back to bite him/us in the *ss.

But this loss isnt Carlo´s fault. It is a result of not having enough "grit"..."enough fight"...of the players thinking that since we have won for three years, we had this one in the bag as well.

So this begs the question, who was responsible for the lack of grit and fight? Who? IMO, the players. Not the coach, not management. Leaving the ref out of it (who in all honesty, practically cost us the match), I found that our players were getting beaten up out there, without doing a little intimidating of their own.

When opposing teams start to rough house with us we tend to give in, cry foul, and pout, (with the sole exception being the Juve match)instead of kicking a few shins, or maybe a high elbow or two. This is the "derby" for crying out loud! Get a red card, I dont care, but send a message.

Veron totally did this, much to our dismay, and Kaka, the good christian boy that he is, simply turned the other cheek. I would at least have taken a yellow for an elbow to his face the next time he tried to foul me. (Which is prob why I never got far in football! :D )

To blame Carlo for this loss is to me, unfair, and a knee jerk reaction. Berlu, who from his throne can proclaim: "We are out of the scudetto race"...knows of all people, he is most at fault, and I am glad for once, that he hasnt made the coach the scapegoat, though I fear for Carlo if he doesnt win the CL.

How is this Berlu´s fault? For idol worshipping Maldini, who simply doesnt have the legs, and needs to be replaced, and with a young, world class defender.

That being said, Berlu can still save the day..as finishing second is not impossible, and I would be satisfied with that, seeing how we have started the season, and how Juve looks (for a change) like they deserve the title. How can Berlu do this? Investing in the Jan and summer transfer markets.

We dont need 10 new players, or even 5, we need two good buys. One in defense, and a "Seedorf" replacement. We do have Janku and Vogel, but they are not producing the goods now, and because Carlo is unwilling to trust them...(indeed, Marek was a non entity vs Inter...did he even touch the ball?) they dont start.

We need a quality midfielder, who (like Clarence on form) not only wins tackles in the middle, but makes a sterling contribution in attack...through balls, etc. Someone who will make Clarence have to fight for his game.

Milan are also defeating themselves by an over-reliance on the long air ball. We look like a second division team in the EPL for goodness sakes!!!!! I lost count of how many times we did that in the first half..and in the second, when we built up the play from the back, we looked much more threatening.

So, a bad result, but Carlo´s premature statement, our defensive frailties on set pieces, a totally idiotic ref, and a fighting Inter, gave us our first derby loss in three years (statistics alone define that this was bound to happen). All the aforementioned contributed here...and Carlo is only minimally at fault.

We need to refocus our target domestically (which now should be second place), while seeking to continue or run in the UCL for as long as possible, and again, I dont think we will win this, as almost half way through the season, we are leaking goals from set pieces, which remain a part of the game you cant escape, so for me to think that we can win a UCL trophy when we cant defend corners and freekicks is ludicrous!

But a long run will give us some funds, which hopefully can be used this summer in a bid to revitalize our defense.

Only the most optimistic can continue to think that we will win some silverware this term, but given that Carlo has been given (as we say in Jamaica)..a basket to carry water..ie an impossible task, with the defense as it is, I hope that he remains next year, silverware or not.

FORZA MIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIILAN...Forever, in winning and losing, till death do us part.

:dconf:

Dida, Sheva, and Gattuso (to lesser extent) all deserve critique for this loss, but none more so than Dida, whose two mistakes, cost us two goals...:moan:

after reading all this and looking at the table i have 2 points to make....
1. 15 games played in a 38 game season does not mean the end.....we have played aprox 40% of our games...not half way through the season as some may proclaim. Last season we reduced a 8 point deficit againt juve...why can't we do it again...we just need to play our game and win...let juve worry about keeping the lead. It's always harder to maintain a lead than it it to reduce one....no way are juve going to win all their remaining matches...thus dropped points will occur. We have to now focus and come out swinging.
2nd. We have always played better when out backs are to the wall this season.....whenever we are down...well there is no where now for us to go but up. So we except to see the real milan from now on

The thing that would annoy me most if I were a Milan fan (and thats a magnanimous IF :D ) - under Ancelotti - now some might get annoyed that hes getting the blame but honestly, the finger is bound to be pointed at him anyway - is how he never learns. Deportivo was big enough of a lesson, and then we have the whole CL final vs Liverpool episode, and episodes where Milan are biting their nails against PSV and Schalke 04 where Milan kept on letting the opponent get back into the game time and time again

As for this season, Milan's defence when it comes to set pieces have been terrible. I am definitely not alone in this as - SURPRISE, SURPRISE - the Italian Serie A highlights on tv for god's sake highlighted every goal Milan has conceded from set pieces this season! The mistakes are so repetitive that you wonder if Ancelotti had any word at all with his defence when it came to set pieces. And true enough, Inter's 2nd goal especially... There were two defenders sleeping when Adriano took the free kick and let Martins run freely to go for the goal.

I was not one for sacking Carlo after the final in Istanbul, but if this ignorance of Carlo continues, I see no other way. Talented and good coach that he is, this fault of his is bound to catch up with him sooner or later.

I really dont wanna jump on the "sack the manager" band waggon because of all he has done for us, but in all honesty we haven't played well since the end of last season, i think this Inter game has just proven though how bad at set pieces we are.... and defending set pieces is something you learn in training so it has to be pointed at the coaching staff, people blame our rear guard for being too old and not having the fitness, well to defend a corner or free kick its down to expirience not fitness and if our defence is so "aged" and "old" surely we have all that expirience, for fu*k sake why did we have no defenders on the post for the corner, they would of easily cleared Adriano's header, i learnt this when i was about 8 years old, and why was Vieri instructed to defend against Adriano, who is obviously there biggest goal threat? these are things that are learnt in training so as much as i love Ancelotti i really feel we have to start questioning his tactics...... and as for his decision to play Kaladze at cb, that was just crazy, Kaladze has been bad enough in his usual role never mind trying to adapt to a new role... why couldn't he just play
Simic....Stam....Nesta....Serginho or
Jankulovski....Stam....Nesta....Serginho or
Simic....Stam....Nesta....Kaladze or
Jankulovski....Stam....Nesta....Kaladze
He could of used any of these and put Simic in the center when Nesta went off
Now again dont get me wrong he's done alot for us and i am a fan of his but poor rotation and defense of set piece has cost us 2 chmpions leagues and maybe Seri A

dont blame the coach for lack of intensity on the players. we have professional football players who should not have problem being motivated to play a game. i do understand that they're humans like us, but if the players dont do their job, you cant blame the coach. the majority of goals we have conceded the past two years have been off set pieces and penalty kicks. we've played well and deserved more than we have gotten, but winners find a way to win, and right now we're not winning. bottom line, if we dont pick up our intensity on the pitch and our desire to dominate, expect a mediocre season.

About set - piece:

1. When you don't have tall players to practice with you about set-piece, it's difficult to manage.

2. If the players have gone to sleep because of free kick, do you think it matters that Ancelotti shouts, "Serginho! REmember ot mark martin during freekick!" And, given SErginho's character, do you think he'll ever remember?

3. Stam scored at a set piece. Inter did have the same problem.

I maintain my position that the problems are with the players, not the coach. I suspect that some players are losing their stamina/motivation. Of course, one may argue that the coach si supposed to induce confidence/motivation to the players. IF this were true, then coach should be changed all the time because motivation fluctuates with game results anyway.

Bottom line: The players better buck up and think about how to defend probably. It's THEIR responsibility (and so does Carlo's) to remain confidence and not let the results defeat them.

And you know what, before people are saying that players are arrogant and I didn't agree. Given the situation now, however, I will say that it seems that even players are taking it easy, thinking that if they don't do well, the coach is going to get sacked instead of them.

And you know what, this is arrogance. The players have no confidence in themselves right now, excpet for a couple of players (which is bviously not enough). Some players have to pick up some confidence.

****************

All in all, the players better get bucked up, especially Gattuso. I'm sorry to Gattuso's friend, but he, however stamina he puts in running around the field, has been missing the balls almost every single time, making stupid mistakes. I'm sorry that Ambrosini is out for so long because until now, Ambro has the heart to win for Milan, not for Gattuso, or at least, not anymore.

I too think it was the players. I think Carlo has for most of his reign preformed well given the players he had at his disposal.

really when you consider it. Seedorf has never been a great player, Inter where desperate to be rid of him. Pirlo was a misfit attacking midfielder before ancelotti re-invented him. the defense was too old by the standards of any other team in world, two seasons ago. Sheva won the ballon d'or. Cafu and Crespo became world class again after being offloaded for free by their clubs. he's getting the best out of almost everyone he has, whether it's revitalising has-beens, pushing great players to forfill their potential or just getting good preformances out of average players.

really, i think carlo has done wonders with the team. Our transfer policy has been largely unambitious compared with other top teams recently. I love to see the players we've brought in over the last 3 seasons compared with the players Barca, Real Madrid, Juventus, Chelsea and Inter. obviously we have a few coups, like gila and kaka, but not that many.

First of all Nesta and Stam are 6ft 3, its hardly small is it? second of all you dont know Serginho personaly so you cant comment on his personality, 3rd of all Stam jumped about a meter of the ground to score his header in was an incredible leap which totaly contradicts your first point about no tall players...
And finaly, i'm not a big Gattuso fan, i never have been, as he will have an incredibly good match and then a week later be our worst player, but to say he doesn't have heart is just crazy, his passion is all he has got, oh and a good engine lol..

so you're saying that carlo tells his players that on set pieces they should do nothing?!? you're making it sound like ancelotti is telling the players to be positioned in certain places and to not make a play on the ball. from what ive been watching the past two seasons, we let forwards get in front of us, and worse is that we get caught looking at the ball and let stupid rebounds (which is dida's fault) be shot in by the other team.
if you look closely, we give up too many rebounds and we never cover any forwards coming in for the shot. perhaps ancelotti should start treating them like kids and teach them the fundamentals. because to tell you the truth, its gatting to be fuking ridiculous. i was one to say that our defence was ok and that we didn't need to bring someone new. but it looks to me that we're too old and too slow.

Old and slow your defence may be but that is hardly of any use in set pieces! I agree that none of it plays a part in defending in set pieces. What does is experience, common sense and perhaps a physical advantage. Based on your post - even if Carlo does not 'coach' his players' positioning in set pieces - he would do very well to actually point out their mistakes, no? And seeing that its a repetitive mistake Milan is making you wonder if Ancelotti mentioned any of it at all. (I find that Toni's goal and Martins' is somewhat similar) I am not calling for Carlo's head yet as the season is still long and perhaps things will change; but just merely pointing out that this fault of Carlo's can be a deeper problem than you think.

Point out where i said, "he tells them to do nothing".... i didn't, i said set plays are something that is practised in training, so obviously he's telling them to do something, but obviously not the right thing, you have to defend your posts on corners, even the Juventus supporter in here can see it happening, we have the best defenders in the world but tacticaly from set pieces we are crap, and for the 50th time thats is simple training ground stuff... now i kinda find it hard to cruticise Dida, as on his day he is in the top 3 in the world, remembering the champs league agains Inter he was the un sung hero, but imo i think he plays on confidence and at the moment his is totaly gone....... Do you think Juve would sell Buffon? lol

Dida´s problem has always been crosses, or rather the management thereof.

He either hesitates, which is often fatal, or comes too early or too late. He is a huge player physically, so he should feel confident in going for crosses in a packed box. All he has to do is fall theatrically, and the ref or linesman will blow for a foul on the keeper...:rollani:

Maybe we need to look at our goalkeeping coach...and as for Abbiati...he had similar problems, but was very brave, however, I much rather Dida, who is a better shot blocker.

Milan need to really look at set piece defending, as I think 99% of the goals we have conceded, are from set pieces, either free kicks, or corners.

Now in football, set plays are inevitable. Especially with the poor coverage our midfield tends to give our defenders. Why a CB (eg Kaladze) has to charge out of the box, to tackle a player, (giving away the foul that really wasnt, but nevertheless, resulted in Dida not saving properly, and Martins reacting faster than our sleeping players) demonstrates this lack of coverage. A midfielder should have been present to help win that ball...

And I could go on and on...but lets not forget the poor officiating...I mean, for such a high profile match, this was poor reffing at best, and abysmal at worst.

Waaaay too many bad calls, and, as one of our players said, the ref wasnt running enough, to keep within proper range of the play.

So we have our weakness...so does every other team. We just have to ensure that we limit set piece opportunities for the opposition, and keep the ball, and FCS, score when opportunities present themselves.

On another point: Gila needs time to adapt. We also need to stop the lazy long ball...its sooooo easy to launch a ball upfield, but what happens more often than not is that we give the ball right back to the opposition.

It is unfortunate that there are only 3 subs, and not unlitmited subs in football as they are in basketball...as believe me, any player that kicked a long ball, when we have time and posession, which results in a turn-over...would be substituted, and given a long lecture by me(if I was the coach), then sent back in to see if he learned anything...but I am not a coach, nor do the rules allow this....

Further news to further ruin my day:

From theGuardian:
Nerazzuri revel as the new Masters of Milan

Juventus's 10-point lead may sound insurmountable, but as Inter have been reminding their neighbours all week, so did 3-0 in Istanbul, reports James Richardson

Adriano celebrates Inter's winner in the Milan derby. Photograph: New Press/Getty.

So abysmal is Inter's recent form against Milan that they have to borrow other clubs' players to taunt their neighbours. Sunday night's spectacular Milan derby opened with the curious sight of the entire Inter end covered in a huge, and hugely approximate, caricature of Jerzy Dudek with a red nose on. Above him came three scorelines; 3-1, 3-2, 3-3. In what turned out to be the first of many lost battles that night, the Milan end amazingly failed to respond - not even a mention of 'May 4, 2002', the day Inter threw away their best shot at the title in 13 years.

From the off Inter looked the hungrier team this time. Their more rested players swarmed at Milan, leaving the rossoneri struggling to find their customary footing and the normally rabid Gennaro Gattuso a bystander as Sebastian Veron (who'd borrowed his angry pills) and fellow countryman Esteban Cambiasso raged around the midfield. Twenty-three minutes in, the pressure paid off. A series of flicks and backheels from Cambiasso to Obafemi Martins to Adriano ended in the Brazilian firing a return pass straight at Alessandro Nesta in the heart of the Milan defence. Undaunted, Martins bundled over Nesta, who collapsed like an Inzaghi in a strong breeze. "Penalty!" shouted referee Domenico Messina, deciding the defender had touched the ball on the ground. Adriano stepped up to the spot, and, at 1-0, we were off.

Fifteen minutes later Messina evened the score with an equally controversial call. Andrea Pirlo's free-kick was fired straight into the Inter wall, slammed off Cambiasso on to the hand of Dejan Stankovic next to him, and the official blew up once more. Shevchenko made it 1-1 with his one decent kick of the game.

Milan were now growing in confidence, and by the start of the second half were showing flashes of their usual sumptuous passing game as they swept towards the Inter goal.

However, Messina wasn't finished. An Adriano run at the other end finished with the Brazilian stumbling over a pair of Milan players. Probably a free-kick, decided the ref. Adriano's powerful shot was then palmed by Milan keeper Dida straight back in front of goal, from whence a grateful Martins stuck it in the net. Two-one.

Now the pressure was all Milan's and shortly after Kaká's superb chance was deflected on to the woodwork, they finally made it 2-2. Pirlo this time floated a free-kick high into the Inter box, and a colossal leap from Jaap Stam saw the Dutchman head home the equaliser with seven minutes to go. There was little chance to celebrate though; Inter went back on the attack and, two minutes into injury-time, Adriano shook off some namby-pamby marking from day-before-yesterday's man Christian Vieri to head in his second and Inter's third, sealing a memorable 3-2 victory.

Now Inter have a player of their own to put on their banners. Recent years have seen the nerazzurri suffer continually at the hands of their neighbours - twice knocked out of the Champions League, and hammered 6-0 in one league derby - finally they can call themselves Masters of Milan. How long they can hold on to that title is anyone's guess, but for the moment the win sees them also inherit both Milan's second place and their role as Juve's official title rivals. Which, with Juve now 10 points clear, might sound an improbable task, but not to the fired up nerazzurri: "If we keep playing like this, we'll catch them!" promised Emporer Adriano post-game. Roberto Mancini agreed. "I've already won one title after catching up nine points on Juve, so I know it can be done," recalled the Inter manager. "Let's wait though till the halfway point of the season and see how much work there's left to do."

Let's not, decided the Gazzetta Dello Sport, who's giant 'Yes, Inter Believe They can Do It' headline on Tuesday must have made them titter over in Turin. After all, it's not just the 10-point gap, it's the fact that Juventus have won 14 of their 15 games so far (including a 2-0 dismissal of Inter at the Delle Alpi), a record which places them beyond even Chelsea in terms of domestic dominance. It's the fact that they're the top scorers, and stingiest defenders too. Short of them suddenly hiring Kevin Keegan as manager, prising the Italian title from their steely grip sounds inconceivable - as Silvio Berlusconi has already conceded, and his Milan side are only a point behind Inter. Still, as his opposite number at Inter, Massimo Moratti wisely reflects: "In this life, you never know". Ten points may sound like an insurmountable lead, but as Inter themselves were reminding their neighbours on Sunday, so did 3-0 in Istanbul.
Stuff like this is KILLING ME!!!! But the sad thing is, that the truth hurts....

Andy Christ
13-12-2005, 12:30
Well, it must be said that a big part of the defeat lies in the fact that we missed Maldini and Cafu. And Messina's decisions were also idiotic, Inter's first two goals came as a result of his wrong calls. He screwed Inter too occasionally, but we were hurt more by his idiotic display.

Anyway, it's crystal clear that Juve is running off with the Scudetto. Our only hope relies in UCL. I think Carlo knows it too. If we don't win the CL trophy then it's probably goodbye for him in the summer. I doubt if Berlu would forgive him 2 seasons in a row without a major trophy.

I like your point about the lazy long ball, i've noticed it too in recent games and was supposed to ask about that somewhere, why have we started doing that? we totaly by pass our midfield when we do and give the ball straight back, where as when we were playing well it was passes along the ground starting from the back, then on to our midfield who would then calve open the defense to the forewards, or open a gap for themselves, so does anyone know why this has changedor is it an overall show of the lack of confidence we seem to have at the moment?

I remember January 6, 2004. We went to the Olimpico to play Roma. We were 2nd in the table by a diff of 3 points. When we played Roma, it was arguably the best performance Milan has played under Ancelotti. After that day, to the end of the season (except a Champions league vs Deportivo, and a Coppa italia fixture against Lazio) we played UNBELIEVABLY well, and VERY attractive football.. we had almost 10 chances a game, and scored a lot of goals while having the best defence in Serie A by far..

We collected 22 points out of a possible 24 from Roma,Juve,Inter,Lazio. We only dropped points vs Juve at the San Siro because we were not that perfect. I remember JDT gave us the lead only for Di viao to equalise.

Anyway, that season we played absolutely perfect. Cafu's runs down the right, Pirlo's unbelievable passes/vision. Sheva's form was outstanding. JDT was so very useful to us as he scored in almost every game he came on as a sub. Gattuso was a beast. Maldini-Nesta were amazing in the middle. Pancaro had his best season ever in his career. It was Kaka's first year for Milan and we all know how great he was.

I mention all that because I have hope that we might hit form this January. I really wish for that to happen. True the difference between us and Juve in the scudetto is 11 points, but we have nothing to lose right? We r in 4th place! i think the players should play as if they've got nothing to lose, that will most likely relieve them from the pressure, which just might lead them to playing some wonderful football as they are used to...

have some faith guys :) we have had a terrible last month, and every team has to go thru bad form once in the season at leastt!! but to be honest I think this is the best time for it to happen..we only lost in Serie A! We r still running for the Champions League! Hopefully we wont go thru any more bad forms this year.. Does anyone remember last year? We really had a good year, we got really exhausted at the LAST month of the season, May, and we did not win ONE game in may! And we lost both the scudetto and the champions league in may!!! Juve/Barca/Chelsea teams like these have been in great form all through the year, that is why i have this big feeling that they will lose their form when it counts.. during the knock-out stages of champions league..

anyway, my main point of all that is that WE SHUD NOT GIVE UP! that is a problem with Milan fans.. when we go 1-goal down, we sit in the stadium and keep our mouths shut! I mean, WTF???? Why do we only support them when they are winning??.. In istanbul, We were 3-0 up at half time.. every single liverpool fan was singing at half time the "We will never walk alone" anthem and then at the end they all shouted "WE WILL WIN FOUR-THREE" 3 times.. Look at the difference!! We must support the team through good in bad.. I believe all this team needs is support from their fans to boost their confidence and morale!!

Everyone here should be shouting FORZA MILAN! instead of biatching about bringing in Cicinho, balack, alex, frey, reveilliere, sneijder, cassano and all that! Leave the transfers job for our directors to handle, all we can do is support the team! Believe you me, Milan will return to winning ways come January, all they need is a little boost in morale. Now I expect everyone to say:

FORZA MILAAAAAAAAAN! :)

The player who is usually sending these long balls forward is Pirlo. But the problem is not with Pirlo. The problem is that far too often we find ourselves with no option other than to give the ball to Pirlo and hope he can cut open the oppositions defence. IMO we are really missing the contributions of Cafu. When he is playing and is on form he always gives the team the added dimension in attack. What he gives going forward is something we are sorely missing. I hope he will be back soon!

Not to worry like a phoenix Milan will rise from the ashes of this defeat and bring back the glory days. The scudetto wasn't lost in one night, it was a combination of terrible events. I would prefer we not dwell on this loss much longer and progress forward and capture #7!

FORZA CAFU! FORZA MILAN!

GALLIANI: ‘Don’t understand why Inter can still hope for the league title and we can’t’
12/13/2005
MILAN - Adriano Galliani spoke with journalists upon his arrival at the Football League meeting, ... A goal conceded in a last minute corner kick, which by the way shouldn't have been awarded, doesn’t change the destiny of a team. ...’

It is confirmed, all those 3 goals started from the referee's mistakes!!

But this loss isnt Carlo´s fault. It is a result of not having enough "grit"..."enough fight"...of the players thinking that since we have won for three years, we had this one in the bag as well.

 THANK YOU! Gosh you seem to be amongst the very few who actually knows what the heck this is all about!
I didnt use the entire quote as I may have some few if any disagreements with it. Overall I did agree with most of what you had written in that post. I just wish the fans wouldnt be so erratic in their emotions. It's like checking into a mental ward and see if the medication has kicked in cause on one day everything is all nice and honkeydory and the next day its friggin insanity! Keep up the good work Warro and always keep that straight head of yours on.

Thanks Kui...it helps to keep my head straight by looking through "green" tinted lenses!

Carlo will pretty much be gone by the end of the year BUT... if he can manage to pull a comeback (not necessarily to win the title but say at least get better than Inter which, of course, will happen) + getting into the final of CL... then the case will be different. This is because notcie that the management are not yet ready to put the blame on anyone, not dida, not the coach. Why? Self-conscious that they made a mistake in transfer? Or because they are optimistic?

In any case, Ancelotti is here to stay at least for 6 other months so STOP talking about sacking Carlo and hire someone else which, let me tell ya, won't solve any problems we are having right now with the defense.

I'm still longing for Ambrosini to come back. I think, given the team's morale + situation, his comeback (and sub a emotionally-driven Gattuso) will give a sense of calmness instilled to the team, which is now very important.
