View Full Version : Milan shoul concentrate On CHAMPIONS LEAGUE
This suggestion does not come on the heels of the loss to Inter, I honestly believe that Milan played very well for three quarters of the game, and we were terribly unlucky.
Here are the following reasons why I believe that Carlo should sit the team down, and explain to them why our number one goal should solely be the champions league, and qualifying for next season's CL.
Milan has regressed over the past two seasons, and no, it is not about the defence. Our play is not the same has seasons past, the tactical awareness, and will has waned within the team. There was a flashback of the old Milan in the second half of the Derby. The swagger that Milan had, that we could come back from any game is sorely missing this season. Coupled with constant lapses in our tactical play, we seriously need to reinvent ourselves. The only way to capture our old confidence is to just concentrate on CL.
By concentrating on winning the CL, we could constantly rotate players like Vogel, Janku into starting league games, and progressively get the main stars playing time as the CL enters the later stages.
The other reason is that our league play has been mediocre at best. I know I'm going to get insults with this comment, but here goes; Juve are not going to be caught in the league, they are playing way too well. Listen people, I'm not saying give up on the league because Juve are playing well. If by the beginning of March 2006, we are still ten points adrift, and Juve are displaying their current form, it would be a fools goal to expend energy on the league.
I believe that we have the same chances of winning th CL as we did in the past two seasons. We are at par or even better than Chelsea or Barca. And one thing that we know how to do well is getting results in Europe. And if that looks to be our bread and butter this campaign, why not concentrate on winning in Paris, come May 2006
i agree with you, we should concentrate on CL because after this our chase for the title is over. I know there are lot of matches to go but we can't play good on two fronts that's a fact, and if we try to play for the double crown we'll end up with nothing

I always believed Milan is more made for Europe anyway. It is more realistic to go for the Champions League, but Milan shouldnt give up on Serie A altogether. Juventus screwed up an 8 point lead last season, and they still could. The other half of the season hasn't begun yet, anything can happen

Agree with sensucht, although for me CL has always been a priority, it would be very stupid of us to give up on the scudetto fight for it is simply way too early to do that. Looking at Milan's and Juve's curent form, it would be laughable to say that we still have a chance for the scudetto, however there are still so many games to come - almost 2/3 of the season are yet to be played - that it is unthinkable that Juve won't go through a tough period and lose points in the progress. And when that happens, if we were to give up now, we would be banging our heads for the missed opportunities.
CL should always be a priority but we must not give up on Seire A so early for soon there will be troublesome times in Juve's camp too. And if they somehow manage to keep on winning till the rest of the season, then we have to say that they deserve the scudetto. As for us, we must not give up, we owe it to ourselves.
i agree with zlatanov, i think we should make the CL our priority but the scudetto should still be taken seriously and when we finish the first month of nxt year well see if theres a chance to catch up, right now its still very early, besides, im looking to be in 2nd place so we can auto-qualify for the CL, if juve are gonna win it, then lets give them a hard time doing it

True. The Serie A season is still long and... as much as I hate to say it and dread it... Juventus is bound to suffer some hiccups in the season (we are famously known for having form dips in December and February)

From a psycholgical point of view the only way to completely get over Istanbul is to win the CL again.
Let's go with the CL, knowing Juventus and adding Capello i'm very pessimistic, which is a quite rare event, cause i'm optimistic by nature.

yea i sorta hated juve for that. As much as im pro-milan, i want italian teams to be successful in europe, but juve always seem to lose it during march/apr and come crashing out of europe.
and by crashing out of europe..this means concentrating on serie A and giving milan all sorts of headaches...
maybe im evil..but alot of times i think..if u aint good enough for europe, u aint fit to be serie a champions.. Leave the scudetto to milan, cos we will represent italy well as serie a champs..
if milan does not make it this season, i hope juve or inter would carry the flag in europe..beat madrid and chelsea for christs sake..

I am mixed on this issue, both Giovanni and Zlatanov have posted concepts that I tend to agree with, so much so that what I was thinking changed after reading both posts.
It is too early in a sense to give up on the Scudetto...but even more importantly, we need to finish above Inter, at the very least.
My thoughts do tend to agree with those that say hey: Lets give our first 11 starts in the UCL, and the second string more Serie A starts. This makes a lot of sense.
However, we do that at the risk of losing ground to both Juve and Inter, something I find just as galling as dropping out of the UCL.
So, I guess I am undecided, but I think Berlu has basically made the decision for us, by declaring so early, that we are out of the title race. Having said this, it is obvious (well, to me at any rate) that this is a signal from il supremo, that we are to focus our energy on the UCL....
Carlo is now in a pickle...does he start Vogel, Marek, the brown ball winner Vieri in the league games, and risk dropping further off second place...or continue as he has been doing, with minimal rotation?
I suggest that the starting lineup for the Messina game will be our first sign as to what his plans are.
That being said, I for one, have no clear opinion on this matter, but who knows, maybe I will have a brain-storm and have a better answer soon...(this last however, is extremely unlikely, as I am still recovering from the weekend´s loss).
i dont think the messina game is the best one to chose from, hell probably start fielding the 'reserves' more jst as the CL resumes which i think is in february (probably wrong) so for the games before the winter break hell look to gain as much as possible since theres nothing to lose and well see our starters vs messina
