View Full Version : Looking for a few good people!
Milan Mania is looking for a few good people
Milan Mania is in need of some new moderators. We’d like to open the nomination process to the members, so this is the place to do it.
This is NOT a popularity contest. This is where you get a chance to suggest someone and tell us WHY you feel that person would be a good choice. There are a few considerations to keep in mind as you look at your fellow members.
Moderators need to be active on the boards. They don’t have to post 10+ posts per day, but showing up once a month can’t be considered active. Heated arguments break out, so a nominee should be someone who can handle themselves in a tough situation without sinking to the level name calling and insulting everyone in the thread. People should have some respect for the nominee, b/c as moderator that person is going to be making decisions for the forum they are assigned to and will be helping to make decisions pertaining to the future of MM. I don’t happen to feel that being a mod takes a huge amount of extra time; there are a few features on the forums that need to be learned, such as how to delete and move or close threads. Nominees should also be people who have been around here for more than just a few months. I’m not saying a newcomer might not be a good poster, but nominees need to be familiar with the forums and how the forums are run.
So please nominate candidates and please remember to tell us WHY you think that person or persons would be good moderators.
IMO there are two nominees at the moment [forums seem to be abandoned recently :googly:] - Kui and Warro. Why? I guess, no one needs an answer, unless he is a rookie. Just read the posts of these two lads and you will get my point ;)
Sorry to be such a stickler but we would like to know WHY, so everyone is on the same page and can discuss qualifications if necessary.
So what do you need? A public disscussion about how good or bad they are? It useless. Especially if you have been here, I refer to MM, and read post for some time. They have class. One while he is analyzing Milan games. Another - off-topics. I bet, these two lads are what MM needs.
So what do you need?
I need for once a little thing called cooperation. I asked for people making nominations to tell WHY they think the person or persons they are nominating are good choices so that when those doing the selecting are discussing the nominees, we have something a little concrete to deal with.
id say kui aswell ... i dont know why exactly, but he is the most mature person here IMO and he is always looking to be friends with everyone here, his only problem is that sometimes he can misread posts but its all good once hes notified. :)
my second choice would be zlatanov, maybe not yet, despite writing the best posts in MM IMO, he still gets into arguments with newer members and if he is to become a mod he needs to ignore them (my same prblem :D)
I spoke briefly to Kui about this a week ago and was turned down.... :sob:
i would say Kui, Warro and Rae would be very good for moderators. Why?
They are always friendly with everyone, they post here everyday don't insult anyone on MM and they are here a long time.
Don't know what else you need?

I would say rae and Kui, it's a shame Kui has turned the offer down though...Well, rae would be a good one :) I reccommend those two due to their gentleman-like behavior and their ability to remain calm under certain circumstances...

i agree. I havent been here that long but i think now thatt kui turned down the offer the 2 best candidates are rae and warro.
Well I'm blushed by the kind opinions people have suggested here. I will say however as I always find a way to disagree with people... Be careful what you wish for! I too can be very one sided here in this forum. I'm not Dev aka ACMILAN1983. Now thats a fair minded person. I have a side and personal opinion like everyone else here and some of my points people absolutely disagree with. This is one of the reasons why I turned down the position of moderator as I feel in all honesty, I cannot with my opinions be a fair and just moderator. I also made this decision as I feel it was in the best interest of the site to not be a mod at this moment in time. I'm sure many will agree and I hope those of you who nominated me will understand why.
Now there is also something I will ask all involved in this thread to be concerned with, is the life of this forum. This is the most important thing that should be concerning us all right now as the Forum is in danger of closing down by at from my sources come the end of the Month of APRIL. We need to find people who can endow this site with some kind of funding from your personal expense. Please if you can the site's is dependent on this. All those interested need to contact Debs or the other Admins concerning this. They are also looking for people with computer knowledge to help maintain and operate this site on a technical level. If money is a hard sell, this site can sure need some of youo folks talents in this field as well.
Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year!

I think mk 18 has growed up much become a good poster since i read his posts a years ago or more. Now IMO, he respects the differents of opinion, statements or expectations from each members. SO, I guess he deserves as mod even he's young in old and as member.. :5ok:
thanks peachtot for the post, but i have to agree with rae that mia should be taken into consideration aswell ... shes devoted to the site and she never argues, while i still find my seld in disagreements every now and then :)
in now particualar order i would say: kui, warro, rae, mia, zlatanov. i might be forgetting some1 though!

Thanks to all that nominated me!!! I have told Debs via PM that I will accept, and I am waiting on her reply.
I am really touched, and a little unbelieving..but thanks again!
I just hope I can be as good a Mod as those who nominated me think I can!
Bless!!
:5ok: Forza Warro!!! and all the others...
I vote for Mia too... we need some other girls to step up...
Yeah i vote for Mia too, she's great and have everything it takes to be a mod :5nana:
Just to let you folks know, Warro is mod in the Discussion forum! :1whis:
Congrats Warro :bday: :mex:
So mod competition is over?! :guw:
No, not yet. People are being a little slow to discuss their choices in the Mods Haven. :5ok:

HELLO MY friends I'm galatasaray fan and my second favourite team is ac milan I love milan and fans of milan. all of galatasaray fans love milan because of İMPARATORE FATİH TERİM and one match fenerbahce:0-schevchenko:4....please write me for turkısh football..thanks
congrats to warro ... maybe we can have a 'reggae' background in the discussion forum now...
what happened to the other nominees? ... if no one is ready then i dont mind being one as long as its not much hard work, though i still believe alot of the other nominees deserve to be ones before me.
It`s good to see Warro as a mod.Congratulations :) I`ll just add few members i think deserve this prestigious title to the list.....Stezagud(picks the words carefully, has intelligent posts),Zlatanov(even though he can go too far with sarcasm sometimes;) nonetheless,he`s rather classy about it)Sant(even though he`s been here since not so long ago,his journalistic style of writing and the way he goes to the core of the problem fascinate me indeed)Kui(mature, knows how to express himself, and is always sensible enough to admit when he`s wrong, that`s highly respectable) and of course,i agree that my cousin Mia should be a moderator to step up for us women here:), Haroon(those magnificient posts and all that football knowledge deserve to be rewarded for sure!).
There are few more people who i find worthy of becoming moderators but some of them don`t visit MM that often any longer, unfortunately i must say.I refer to the likes of Laudrup,Kris,Il Genio,Susi,Nadir etc....

Stezagud(picks the words carefully, has intelligent posts),
I think my Utd supporting might have got in the way, people would have found thelmselves banned for saying Ruud looks like a horse, Rooney looks like Shrek and so on :)
Thanks for listing me though, your reward will be sent to you shortly :greed: :bcake:
;)
ahhhhh stez gets my vote aswell... i always liked him... but he needs to show up more often IMO :) ... if jim UK isnt a mod then he should be... isnt dev a mod??? if not he should be ... harron definatly! but all should show up more often

thanks mk, another reward to send out :bcake:
:D
I agree with your other nominations too, and you should add yourself to that list  one thing MM has is a lot of sensible posters..
... if jim UK isnt a mod then he should be...
Alas, I've offered Jim_UK a mod position several times and he always turns me down, saying he doesn't feel he has the time! :1whis:

how can you break my heart so close to valentines day :broken:
;)
Im officially out of the running anyway, plus if Utd were to lose to Milan in a future Champions League clash i would probably do crazy things like make an official day of mourning for Utd and enforce it by banning anyone who dare post
There are better options than me too, in fact this site has so many sensible posters now i cant really think of anyone who would be a bad choice :D

come on suheil, mirza doesnt mean anything against you, we all enjoy ur presence here, and same goes to sant, to whoever mentioned sant ill have to agree with him, because sant has shown maturity here and seems to get along well with everyone, you need a little bit more time to become a more mature poster but ur a great one already nontheless :)

The problem, Doc, is that a 13 or 14 year old really is not mature enough to be a moderator. You've been asking and asking, and the thing is, people who ask seem to do so for some ulterior motive. They think it's cool, they think "wow, I'll have all this status, I'm a real hotshot, I'm important." I'm not trying to come down on you, Doc, but I've replied to many of your PMs about this, and I don't know what to do to get my point across. No one can walk into any forum on the Web and start asking right away to be a mod, and that's how it is here. I'm a real lenient person, but this is one issue I stand firm on no matter what.
As for Sant, I noticed his posts almost immediately. I can spot the older and more mature posters pretty quickly, and when it comes to moderatoing, we need people who are very even tempered and yes...mature. Takes real maturity to step in between 2 warring ADULTS!!
Hey, Debs, thanks, but I am not that old :web: ... haha... FYI, I'm 27...
I could tell you were in your upper 20's to lower 30's. When you've been online and posting in as many places in as many ways as I have--from email lists to forums--you develop a knack!

Don't give up, Dog
It's not about who has the most posts or who is online the most, just have a little patience Doc and in time you'll be a mod here :D
I think Steza, MK, Graeme, Dragana, Mia ... are just some of the few people who i think would be ideal for being a Mod.
Even temper you say Debs ? That rules me out ;) I've been such a moody git lately.
Although if you still want me as a mod Debs, then i'll happily say yes ... if you're completely stuck for people :5ok:

hey Debs, can you reply to my pm please?
thanks :)
right ok fair enough but i didnt walk into this forum i have been here for almost a year :5inter: thats all fair enough then i cant be mod
Yes patience Doc. I've been here since 1999 and still am not a mod for a number of reasons which are warranted. Warro has just been made a mod and he's been here since 1999. It isnt a matter of how long or how much you post. It is given to those who can become fair mediators in any discourse, dialogue, debate, disagreement, argument and downright verbal war between two or more different posters at any given time through out this whole forum board.
Given time people will develope an unwavering respect for you as a member here. That is the thing... it can take some time. I've been nominated by some which I respectfully turned down. It is more enjoyable for me to be on a side than to be a mod. Frankly it is a big responsibility to be a mod which the admins really depend an count on very much. So it takes a certain quality that will grow with you soon one day Doc. If you become a mod in a few years from now, I believe you'd still be the youngest mod ever. Besides... sometimes you can earn "respect" from all by being just a member equal to that of a mod.
Lastly... I apologize to all for not naming anyone as a mod here in this thread. I have feared that by dong so, I might offend anyone that was left out. There are a number of you who would make great moderators in this forum. My biggest concern is that you stick with this and do so at the pleasure and convenience of Debs and Rezag. I cannot emphasize more the reliance and trust that they put to you folks who choose to be a moderator here. As a moderator, you become a representative for all of us and also for the credibility and sanctity of MilanMania and for the our team AC MILAN. Serve them well by doing good and keeping their trust and the trust of all members.
FORZA MILAN!
There are few more people who i find worthy of becoming moderators but some of them don`t visit MM that often any longer, unfortunately i must say.I refer to the likes of Laudrup,Kris,Il Genio,Susi,Nadir etc....
:eekani:
Thanks for the nomination Dragana  Though MM is the first forum I've registered as a member, I'm no longer posting here on a regular basis. A moderator has to be a regular poster, well liked by other members, has great passion and knowledge of the club, levelheaded and able to resolve conflicts, word slugging contests (either by humour or a serious take no prisoner approach).
In other words, I nominate you
personally, i dont want to become a mod because i cant stand the newcomers here... i always argue with them and id end up banning them all at one point... seriously :)

i wish i was moderator ...
Does anyone else think we need some new mods? I was looking over the list and found that around half weren't even active anymore Bodat, Goirre, Henrik, RIO, and maybe even Giovanni, at least temporarily. At least triniman is back. If anyone supports me then I will name my candidates later.
Vadim, you are not wrong that some, for various reasons, are not as active.
I think its ok to look out for members willing to help out in any way possible and we should consider those who can be active.
Vadim, Rez and I have had this conversation several times in the past 2 months, so yes, we totally agree. I'd be interested in your nominations.
I also have to say right up front that there seems to be something wrong with members doing the nominating b/c too often we'll make a nominated member a mod and....poof...they vanish on us. We're looking for all sorts of solutions to a few recurring problems. At this point, the main thing to consider for a mod is that they are active! Also keep in mind things like are they level-headed in an argument, are they dedicated to this site....stuff like that....
Well, my first nomination would be SANT. He is definetely active, I've never seen him burst out at anyone and he is also a great poster. He would be my first choice. I would also nominate Jim_UK, Stezagud, and Jeff, for the same reasons that apply to SANT. Zlatanov would also be a great choice but I think he gets in too many arguments to be a mod... sorry ;)
Well, work on Jim_UK for me would you? I've approached him 2 or 3 times and he turns me down. :dontkn: I'd been thinking of Jeff already, and SANT as well.
i would say .. mk18 or SANT ..
both of them are very active here and their posts are just great .. specially sant's
, mk18 been very friendlier to everybody since i was registred here
so IMO one of these 2 guys should be mod. here

SANT has my vote, hands down...Jim UK as well, but if he is reluctant, go with SANT.
No one else readily pops into mind...

Now I like SANT. Keep in mind that I still think Zlat should be considered too. So what if he gets into arguments. I've had arguments with members, mods, and the admins all alike. Zlat earns some merit IMO. Sant too.
Kui also would be in my nomination list
My own nominations are:
Jeff
SANT
Kui
Vadim
Jim_UK
Graeme--turns out he is learning web design and can probably help Rez
but of course I am open to discussing others. Main objective here is people who are dedicated to this site and who are fairly active. (by active I don't mean HOURS every day spent here or responding to EVERY post, but who come by daily or maybe every 2 or 3 days)
Kui also would be in my nomination list
Flattered and many thanks. Debs knows my answer. I hope she is still alright about it. Again as the reknown Cardinal Siri allegedly said "I do not accept".
:55angel:
Yeah, I know your answer but that doesn't mean I'm going to stop nagging you about it. I think you'd be good at it as you don't take crap! :w143:

Wow!
Some other forums i've been on have loads of people who would kill to become a moderator. Not the same interest her though which is strange. Also there is no say from the users. The Administrators ask someone if they want to become one privately and if they do then they become one and if they don't they ask someone else. There is no shortage of takers that's for sure. I think asking what all the users think is better though.
Kev, you're new here, and I've been here since the place started. We've gone thru all and I do mean ALL methods of finding mods and appointing them--from asking for nominations to taking votes. Sadly at times the voting is nothing more than a popularity poll. Right now we're addressing the problem of some good people who were highly recommended by members who have apparently all but abandoned the forums and their mod position without saying anything to anyone as to why.
I more than welcome input from members but to say the least the outcome can be questionable. Maybe MM has been around too long, maybe people have gotten to the point where they don't care how the place is run as long as it's online for them to use. And how does one address people who have been nominated and refuse the promotion?
C'mon Kui, don't be affradi to "use thunder"... :)
Be weary of what you are suggesting. I'm very aristocratic in my nature. It runs in my blood and been so with my forefathers. My own posts makes this only so obvious. I know my place and the best interest of this site is to make sure I stay there. You commons run the show now. You could do a better job at it !LOL!...but the worst solution is to try and reinvigorate an archaic system of oligarchs. LOL! I'm laughing but please consider the seriousness as well.
Keep in mind what I had posted earlier as a hint to my aristocratic nature. As CARDINAL SIRRI said... non accepto. Look him up and you'll catch my drift.
Kev Ryan

That can be a problem. If there is a vote and the person who wins doesn't actually want to become a moderator. The whole thing will have been a waste of time.

The nomination process is working IMO. I believe the mods we do have are pretty good. The ones who are currently inactive are so for whatever reasons. They too have been good as far as I recall. This happens from time to time as Debs well knows. People move get married, too busy, or thrown in jail. Not that any of our distinguish mods are serving time or anything... but you can see my point. The continuity of this site and mods is working fine.
I wish things were working as well as you think, Kui, but there are mods who haven't been here since April, mid-May, or mid to late June. I'm very sorry, but to me that isn't what can be defined as "active." Could you please give me your definition of active? How often should a mod come here and check the su-forums they've asked to be assigned to?
Of course I understand how our real lives do and have to take precedence, I know that as well as anyone. Maybe we have a simple lack of communication, I don't know. What bothers me is that when there are things that need to be discussed or decided in Mods Haven, it's usually just Rez and I posting with Dev, RIO, sometimes Trin and sometimes Warro adding a few things. Unfortunately this has been going on for close to a year, and I find it frustrating, to be frank about it. Rez and I DO NOT want to be the supreme dictators here; I'd really like to have this be a fairly democratic site, or at least as democratic as privately owned site can be. I simply feel like I'm talking to myself--maybe Rez can add to that. I simply have no answers as to why active and eager mods suddenly vanish when they've been doing such a good job, so I'm open to whatever anyone has to say about it. Should mods only serve for a year or 18 months or....what?
Oh and as Kui said...I don't mean serving jail time! :nail:
I'm sorry if I was misunderstood. I meant that the active mods you have now Warro and Dev are doing a fine job IMO. Unless you're implying that is not so either.
I've already endorsed 2 people when I had earlier taken the position months back that I wouldnt do this. That doesnt mean I dont think these folks deserve it. I have other names that come to mind and I feel bad that I mentioned 2 names (one starting with an S and another starting with a Z) without bringing up the others. I wont do so. I've broken the pledge once and wont do it again.
I know you dont want to be dictatorial about this but sometimes you do need to use your executive power and go ask people you really like without our consensus or blessing.
I've just sent PMs out to Jeff, SANT, Zlat, and Jim_UK....
What about the following people that we discussed before? Still people that we could nominate? mk 18, rae, Mia, Dragana and Stezagud
I agree with the names mentioned, even if they don't accept or they are unable to now they should the next ones to be considered.
please don't forget Vadim... he's young, but he can do a good job...
I also offered Vadim a position as mod since he's been showing alot of initiative and interest in the forums and making them better.
I'll also mention that Graeme is either going to be offered a mod position OR if he's able to help Rez with fixing up the site, we may give him the title of Techie or something like that.
So far I've heard from SANT, Jeff, Zlantanov and Vadim, and they've all accepted a trial run of being mods for us. These trial runs will start in August, and that is partically to see what they think of the position when games are being played, as we'll have some pre-season activity and we'll also hit the first game or 2 of the season, and this will also hit the end of the transfer season.
If anyone else has any nominees they'd like to name, please feel free to do so at any time!
Deb, how long do you plan this trial period to be ?
Well, I was thinking at least 4 weeks. I haven't actually asked Rez what he's thinking....but I'd guess 4 or 6 weeks...

And how does one address people who have been nominated and refuse the promotion?
well im not popular ...
well im not popular ...
On the contrary. Doc dont take this too hard. Being unpopular is my job here. I'm glad you want to be a mod! I think everyone would agree to that.
Look... guys like Warro have been here since the beginning and only recently have been called up to being a mod. It can and will take a while for some to get recognized. Again Warro has possessed a high degree of respect and dginitas here since day one. Some have been here at a shorter length than you and are now mods. Dont lose heart and dont lose faith. Those kinds of negative traits will surely bring attention to yourself and it will gurantee make it harder for you to become a mod. I hope this advice can comfort you. You are doing well! When the time is right you WILL be a mod.
Now Doc, relax...and listen to what the Ku-ster says. Your time will come. No one is moderator-for-life...errr, well, says I who have been mod from Day 1 of the forums, almost. :lala: People come and people go, and things change in people's lives. If you want it badly enough, just keep the faith, and it'll be noticed, my friend! :djn:

:bright: :bright: okay ... i agree with all you guys ... what you say is true ... and ill follow the advice thanks
i took some time to think about it and decided it's not the right time for me to be a moderator ... maybe further down the line, if the opportunity arises again.
thanks for asking though, i appreciate it.
Thanks, Jamie, i knew you were mulling it over. I'll keep bugging you! :ilol:
Has anyone ever thought of a 3 strikes rule ? I'm sure it will have been mentioned before but i've seen it on other forums and it could work here.
As you can all gather it would be 3 strikes and then a ban, unless of course it was something really serious that deserved a ban straight away.
I also think that maybe the forums should look into tracking ip addresses so that when someone is banned they won't be able to keep returning from the same computer.
Finally i think the forums could do with a shout box/live chat room that runs along side of each page. It's something you can get from the V Bulletin Boards which is what these forums are made from, so it shouldn't be hard to implement. It would mean some minor restructuring of the pages as the width of the threads/replies would have to be decreased. Imagine a small chat box the width of the white space where all our avatars and personal data goes and you get the idea.
I think the forums would benefit from this greatly.
Wow he turns down the spot but does come up with some ideas....
We do have a "system" we use when problems arise. A member gets warnings--a public one is mild but we hope it stops or at least calls that person's attention to the problem. Then we PM them. And as you said, the seriousness of the "offense" determines the number of warnings. But maybe we need to publicize that more. We have rules but I think they need re-worked a bit, tightened in some areas.
We also need people to understand that they are not helpless when a problem arises. That's what are mods are supposed to be here for--they should be the first line of defense so to speak. Say it in a short public post or, my suggestion, PM them with specifics. Lately everything's getting dropped on me and Rez, not on the mods.
We're talking aobut doing some work onthe site. Graeme is taking classes on this stuff and has agreed to help as much as he can. I know one thing he's been doing when he has any spare time is he's going around looking at different sites to get some ideas. Obviously we want to keep the color scheme but what do we want to do with the main pages? Drop them totally and just be a forum? If we're just a forum, should we expand in some way? What else could we offer? Chat obviously is something to try again b/c of all the advances and changes in that technology since we last tried it here. If there's something that is a part of vBB then you're right it should be easier to include. I'm also in contact with a former student who is doing an internship with me and the network admin at school--he's re-designing the school's web pages. Maybe I can talk him in to lending a hand, who knows.
IP addresses are tracked, admins (and mods) can see each posts' IP along with an IP list in the control panel of the software.
Chat, in some form or another, can return and is not too difficult like you said
Banning, is another topic altogether :D we can 'bar' or 'ban' and that works similar to the 3 strikes thing
Oh yeah and I forgot to mention, with the IP thing...Jamie, you're referring to an IP ban which is difficult at best. An IP ban can affect more than just one person, so we use it as a last resort.
I have temporarily disabled signature as a way to figure out how to deal with the issues going on. We need to come up with a uniform rule about content here.
I am tempted to make the following bold:
This is not meant to be strict and stringent but a way for us to deal with whats going on
Prohibiting something is not a way to resolve the problem. Why so many people has to suffer because one guys can not deal himself with rules of our forum?!
You better punish him than all of us.
:rollani:
Its one action we had to consider.
what if you limit the amount of characters in the signature ? That will stop signatures being too large, as in size.
The only way you're going to get around inflamatory signatures is to have some sort of approval system where a mod or admin would check a submitted signature before it's allowed to be used. But that would be alot of extra work and the only way i can see that working is if you assign all signatures to have a variable of 'false' when sent to the database and then through some sort of form in the admin section you change hit an approve button and the variable changes to 'true' ....
does that make sense ?
Prohibiting something is not a way to resolve the problem. Why so many people has to suffer because one guys can not deal himself with rules of our forum?!

:rollani:
you can say that again... and again... and again...
:wallbang: :wallbang: :wallbang: :wallbang: :wallbang:
you don't have to be best buddies... but you could just ignore each other, or eventually try to just get along and put all this behind...
Thre is an option to ignore a certain member too, go to their profile page and click 'Add ____ to Your Ignore List'

rezag...what about avatars?
Let me point out that both avatars of mk18, (though not specifically for me) and rae (this in particular) can be considered offensive.
In fact, the sight of the confederate flag sickens me....but then maybe this is the point that rae is trying to make...(since I could care less about the Israeli flag being burnt, but a Jewish fan may have the direct opposite view point).
While I dont like prohibiting anything..some things at times have to have limits, and until the signature issue can be resolved (I like Jim_UK´s idea) then, I am afraid it would have to stay this way.
As for me asking to have rae change his avatar, at this point, I wont bother...if he wants to identify with a set of states that wanted, and were willing not only to form a new country, but also to fight and die for, the perpetuation of slavery, then thats on him, and his concience.

I'll agree somewhat to what you are saying Warro. These avatars draw a deal of emotions to which some folks if not all will be offended at them.
While I dont like prohibiting anything..some things at times have to have limits, and until the signature issue can be resolved (I like Jim_UK´s idea) then, I am afraid it would have to stay this way.
Again I'll agree... somewhat of course. Like you I dont like prohibiting things such as avatars. I think the epitome of tolerance happens when offensive symbols are brushed off by us and the individual's right of expression is protected for whatever he/she wants to believe in.
As for me asking to have rae change his avatar, at this point, I wont bother...if he wants to identify with a set of states that wanted, and were willing not only to form a new country, but also to fight and die for, the perpetuation of slavery, then thats on him, and his concience.
Again I'll agree, albeit... somewhat. Neither you or me have the pre-eminent right to say such a symbol has a certain meaning. To me and you Warro, the Stars and Bars may be a symbol to perpetuate racism/slavery and be deemed offensive. Is this an actual fact? There are many who display this symbol and are not in any way supportive of the legacy of slavery or racism. I think the avatar issue if offensive to some has nothing to do with the symbol itself. It has a lot to do with how people think about it and what that symbol means. Well any particular symbol means a whole lot of different things to any number of people. Why is the right of my or your sensibilties to such a symbol more important than the feeling of the one displaying that certain symbol? That would depend on assumptions. Dangerous assumptions and perhaps inaccurate assumptions of such a person. This bodes true to mk18's right to display whatever avatar he chooses to have. I may disagree emphatically with it, but what I think of mk18's avatar may be a totally different view of what he feels about it. Therefore I have no right to bully my view as correct and mk18's view as wrong. That can be discussed through thoughtful and respectful debate with the hope that there can be a consensus somewhere in between.
Lastly... Rae perhaps you should take the high road on this and change your avatar. mk was gentlemanly enough and did this by changing his. I sure hope mk's wasnt forcibly removed. If it was, perhaps we should be fair across the board about this avatar thing as Warro/Jaime and whoever has suggested. It can go either way... totally eliminate the avatars or be liberatarian about it. I'll trust in the Admins discretion regarding this.

Well, Doc, Rezag had alot fo good points he needed to get across. You'd think that eventually all parties would see that they place us all in difficult positions doing things like they have been doing.
You see, when we discovered years ago we could allow avatars we thought wow, that's cool, it'll let people do something fun here on the forums. Unfortunately, within about a year of adding avatars, people decided to use them for other purposes. We do not have to have avatars, that's something special we thought people would like to have. Now we're getting pushed into having to make some decisiomns. Do we take avatars away totally? Rez and I mentioned that to each other yesterday. It would be a shame to have to do so, same as it's a shame we decided to shut off signatures for a short time. I don't want to have to come across like some dictator, but these forums aren't a playground for people to abuse. So...we've got some decisions to make, but I also look at it as members have some thinking to do. It only takes a couple people....

wow i joined earlier and your a mod ... its time for me to pack my bags
my israeli flag avatar was put for a few hours in response to a post by debs over her choice not to change rae's previous avatar ... not because i wanted to put it, my original avatar was a picture of hassan nasrallah, which was removed by debs
It's not about who's been here longest Doc, if it was then all the people who joined in 1999 would be moderators.

Milano, mods are picked on recommendation and proving themselves as level-headed and fairly smart. Basically, people who have proven themselves as capable and reasonable people.
Despite Sant being here for a short time, he has managed to integrate well into the forums, been a regular poster and has made intelligent discussion, never losing control of his temper.
Doc, when people continually ASK to be made mods or when they make it clear very early in their posting here that that's their goal, that's not a good thing. It's not at all what I look for in a potential mod.
As for SANT, he has shown alot of the qualities we need in mods such as being level-headed, having a mature attitude, even some intangible things like simply being a good poster. People in this thread have been patting you on the back, telling you things....but this constant harping about it... :1whis: it's not what you need to be doing.
Hey Debs. Are we still considering the "option" we talked about? The reason I'm asking is that next week 31 July-05 August, I'll be on an errand to Utah. I got some LDS thing I have to do. Can you believe it? They're trying to get me back in some leadership position. I once had the promise of moving up the ladder but its not for me. I still have to go as I'll be looking for some property investments there.
Anyway going of tangent there for a moment.... If the "option" is considered by me and you to go forward with this, it may be not until I get back on the 6th of August.
No real rush just yet, Kui. Rez and I are still throwing around ideas, like he says there's free software we can use to design something apart from MM. We'll talk, don't worry. I'll also be a bit busy and not online as much as Lin fianlly has her vacation at the same time you'll be out of town.
i nominate SANT, hes da man, and he proved what a great person he is in the political issue that just happened recently plus very intelligent posts throughout the time hes been here

hey hey why did mk18 get banned ... :nervous:
I'm just back from my England trip (I'm in england now of course)! ya! (just want to share my joy!)
Yeah, why did mk get banned ?
Oh come off it, people! You know why he got banned! I'm sick of being questioned everytime we have some problem to deal with. I get the "you're not dealing with this fast enough" comments and then I get the "hey why did you do that" comments. If you were following things in the Flamers forum, you wouldn't be asking these questions. :d33:

Is rae banned too? Just a question OK .... before you start fuming (because "BANNED!" can be a part of the custom title)
I followed what was going on in the flamers section, but when i went to bed last night he was still a member and when i woke up today he was banned. Which led me to believe that he'd done something in between.

ohhh man that sucks no rae or mk18 i mean what could them 2 have done ???
I have a technical question. I wanted to embed a picture into a thread, rather than attach it or have it externally linked. How do i do that?
At the bottom of the page, in that little box it says:
vB code is On
Smilies are On
[IMG] code is Off
HTML code is Off
So i take it i need to turn [IMG] code 'on' somehow??
We can turn it on per forum but we haven't done so before for the same reasons as not having larger avatars and signature images...page load time for dialup users, the look of the pages with lots of images, etc.
ah, i see .... i thought it might be forum based rather than user based.
no problem ... thanks reza.
