View Full Version : Forum activity
Split thread, any comments on forum activity... less people posting regularly? if so why?
Also to add, I (we, all of us) would like to know the 'why' to the other thing rae posted...if forum activity is lower, why?
Also to add, I (we, all of us) would like to know the 'why' to the other thing rae posted...if forum activity is lower, why?Do not get your point clearly... you're asking why our forums are abandoned? Or what? :dontkn:
Yes, you mentioned it is abandoned.
If thats true...why is that?
Yes, you mentioned it is abandoned.
If thats true...why is that?Who knows... I can only add my speculations but nothing precise. Many of regular posters withdrawed due to personal reasons [job, studies, family], some of them vanished without telling a reason why. But the main problem is that only a few newcomers start to post regulary. One of the reason [not major] might be the problems with MM we had earlier. I mean technical problems. Actually you can put yer point of view also, because it's only my opinion, no conclusions or estimations...
Thanx for replying rae, I might split this thread and have a separate thread about forum activity, because thats also important.
One of the reason [not major] might be the problems with MM we had earlier. I mean technical problems.
And yet I asked for people who are willing to help Rezag with the technical stuff and no one can be bothered. Vicious cycle I guess, where will it end?
Oh. If I would knew anything about computers, I would help you without a doubt. However me and and a PC are enemies form the start :D
Debs, maybe it would help if you could specify a little bit... what type of "technical problems" need to be resolved?
that way each one of us will know if we have the knowledge/capability to help...
I'll have Rezag post what he knows. What I know is people have complained about not even being able to access the site at certain times. Andrew had been wondering if the server had a worm, that would obviously be the server's duty to take care of. Is it the size of the forums that was affecting the speed and so on?
Beyond that, Andrew wants to step down as beign the guy in charge of the technical stuff like moving the forum when we find a suitable replacement server, updating the vBB code and so on.
Rez, what can you add?
-One of the recent issues brought up by rae here (http://www.milanmania.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19073) was the 'execution time' we increased the time on the server so there should be less chance of that happening.
-Another was the load in general which the pruning of the forum database should help, at least a bit.
-This is seen occasionally
"Link-ID == false, connect failed
mysql error:
mysql error number: 0"
I think I have ruled out one potential cause (too many search engine bots at the same time) but if anybody is familiar with that error or programming in general and is willing to help it would be great
