there are rumours today that Vieri is going to be released? well i cant say that i havent been disapointed by vieri so far, if he wants to go, he can go......

Udinese look like they want to offload Iaquinta, he could be a good option for us, plus he is ownly 26.....

Yeah it won't really bother me if Vieri leaves. I am a bit concerned about who should be brought in though. Maybe this is a good time to get Toni? ;)
Well, on a more serious note, we need a decent 4th striker now. Iaquinta would be a good choice. But honestly, we could have gotten Cassano for £3,5 million...

Graeme C
07-01-2006, 14:52
i think Vieri was supposed to be the 3rd choice striker at Milan, Iaquinta is more of a power striker like him, opposed to a player like Inzaghi......

Toni would be nice, but he will cost too much, plus i cant see fiorentina letting him go. Cassano is a bad boy, i think that is the reason we didnt sign him, gallani prob thinks he will disturb the carmness of the team

Not released, like making him a free agent. We are talking transfer here, and it would be a great move for us since Im sure we will get a new and serviceable striker.

Milan 'release' unhappy Vieri

Source: Football Italia

Milan transfer chief Adriano Galliani admits that Christian Vieri has requested a move to play first team football, which could take him to Spain or England.

“Vieri is very happy at Milan, but in a World Cup year he would like to play more regularly,” explained the Vice-President.

“He is torn and I understand his situation. In any case, this is an issue that will be decided over the next two to three days and will not drag on beyond that.”

The Italian international has barely made a mark since joining the Rossoneri in a shock free transfer from rivals Inter in the summer.

Locked out by the form of Andriy Shevchenko, Alberto Gilardino and the newly recovered Pippo Inzaghi, he has been mainly relegated to the bench.

A January transfer now looks likely and an overseas option is top of his list. While a return to Atletico Madrid, where he was top scorer with 24 goals in as many games in 1997, has been suggested, the most recent reports highlight a move to Tottenham.

“He is 33 years old and this will probably be his last World Cup, so he feels that he must safeguard that experience by playing more first team football,” added Galliani. “These are all perfectly understandable considerations.”

Other Premiership options for the centre-forward include Newcastle, Birmingham and Manchester City, though The Guardian claims that White Hart Lane is the key to his loan deal.

“I will only say that if Vieri does stay, then he’ll focus all his attention on doing well with Milan. All he needs is a little patience and a brace of goals to get the critics off his back, but any eventuality will be dealt with in a climate of friendship and understanding.”

Coach Carlo Ancelotti also hinted that a departure – albeit an amicable one – was on the cards.

“Nobody here has any intention of dumping Vieri,” assured the tactician. “I would be happy if he stayed, even if I cannot give any guarantees on more first team football.”

Well, folks, it seems that Vieri is almost 'officialy' out... let's hope we can pick Torres, or at least someone like Iaquinta.

Him coming from Inter at his age and form was always gonna be one of those 'either it surprises big time or its a disaster' to me the same question remains...are we gonna get a guy with caliber thats gonna compete for Gila's 'spot' or be happy to sit on the bench?

imagine if we didnt sign Gilardino, scary stuff :devf:

just doing a quick rumour search, this one is funny- Possible exchange for Simone Inzaghi? (sports.it)

I think alot of fans hoped Vieri would Succeed at milan like Pirlo and Seedorf did, but yeah rezag i agree with u, it was either going to be hit or miss with Vieri.

If we did get another striker i dont think there would be a big problem. Sheva and Gilardino cant play every game anyway.

best news ive read so far this transfer window..im happy, milan board are making the right decision..im hopeful we can get first option on Torres or something, but still our priority should be gettin a defender, but still im not too sure that vieri will be leaving..galliani said that he might leave, a decision will be made in 2 days..hope we can get a good replacement that is DIFFERENT to Gila and Inzaghi.. and i also want to mention how disappointed i am for not taking Cassano for $3.5 million.. FFS I WOULD HAVE TRANSFERED THAT MONEY TO GALLIANI TO BUY CASSANO!! ok jk but im sure milan fans who have that amount of money would do it :P

According to Gazzetta - they are quoting Galliani's words - there was a late meeting between Milan, a Monaco rep, Vieri, and Vieri's agent. Milan and Monaco have reportedly reached an agreement and all that's left is Vieri to agree terms with the Principality club.
Once the transfer is finalised, Milan is expected to announce the signing of Marcio Amoroso, who would come for free from Sao Paolo.

I think this choice is made basically upon the costs, Bojinov would be a great investiment and not as certain to work as Amoroso, who would cost less and already proved.

I know it's romantic to imagine great hyped names to come, but the hard reality is made of economics and balances. Berlusconi is not going to spend every time 15 millions here and there, esp because he's a politician and also because he's not like Abramovich who money launders the founds of the russian mafia

Milan agree Vieri sale

Source: Football Italia

Christian Vieri is set for a move to Monaco this week provided he agrees personal terms with the club, according to Milan Vice-President Adriano Galliani. "We have reached a deal with Monaco," he admitted today.

Despite only joining the Rossoneri in the summer, Vieri has struggled to win the intense competition for places with Andriy Shevchenko, Alberto Gilardino and Filippo Inzaghi, making only three starts and scoring just once for his new club.

To compound his misery, Vieri suffered injury during his last call-up to the Italy side and lost the opportunity to impress Coach Marcello Lippi, who had kept faith in the 32-year-old despite his lack of match practice.

The former Inter marksman is now desperate for games in order to further his prospects of playing in what will almost certainly be his last World Cup tournament.

A move to Monaco - where he would play alongside compatriot Marco Di Vaio and under fellow Italian Francesco Guidolin - represents his best chance of realising his international dream.

"We have reached an agreement with Monaco," admitted Galliani, following talks with Monaco representatives after his side’s 4-3 win over Parma last night. "Now it is just up to the player to agree personal terms with the Monagasques."

It is unclear how much Monaco have agreed to pay for the player, but provided the centre-forward agrees to leave the move is likely to be completed in the next two or three days.

"If Bobo leaves we will think about getting another striker," added the Milan chief. "We will certainly not be doing a swap deal with Monaco. Javier Chevanton doesn’t interest us and neither does Mirko Vucinic of Lecce."

Fiorentina’s Valeri Bojinov and former Parma and Udinese striker Marcio Amoruso are the latest to be linked with a move to the San Siro in the event of Vieri’s probable departure.

For his part, Lippi is in favour of Vieri moving to France and refuted suggestions that being abroad would hinder his chances of selection.

"He needs to play," said Lippi. "Following his progress abroad would be the last of my problems. Apart form anything else, Monaco is very close.

"I am always happy when a footballer is playing," continued the Azzurri boss. "This is a special year and if you’re not playing at all it’s right to move to another side.

"I would be as happy for Vieri as I am for Antonio Cassano – and playing at Monaco, Real Madrid or Palermo doesn’t make much difference to me."

___

That's done, folks: Vieri is heading to Monaco.

Regarding his future replacement, it's a pitty to see that we aren't interested in Chevanton, but I will be very glad if Bojinov joins us (although I still prefer Torres, of course!)

Bojinov would be a great addition to the squad. He's young and can learn a lot from Shevchenko, Gilardino and Inzaghi. If he can rediscover his form from his days at Lecce, he will be a solid backup-player for us this year and maybe a long-term replacement for Shevchenko (even though his retirement is still a few years away...). I would be really happy to have him in the squad.

SILVIO BERLUSCONI: "Istanbul doesn’t weigh anymore"
1/10/2006 12:12:00 AM
MILAN - "Nine points are a lot and even if you don’t give up I can’t see Juventus slipping up." This is what Italy prime minister Silvio Berlusconi had to say on an Italian television sports show when asked about Milan moving into second spot in the table. "Juve are a robust team that use skill and fitness along with tactics. I think Juve will do well in the Champions League as well." Turning to his Milan, Berlusconi returned to the night in Istanbul and said: "It was tough for the early part of the season psychologically but now now there are no negative affects from this game. Finishing second in Italy would not be a result to be thrown away but Europe can still be ours." Berlusconi also talked about the international side and said: "Vieri can light up Monaco and Cassano lift Real Madrid. We are fortunate to have such worthy strikers."

There is also no way Berlusconi would swap Adriano Galliani for his opposite number at Juventus, Antonio Giraudo: "I hold Giraudo in high regard and with Luciano Moggi have taken Juventus to a new managerial demension and created a team that is always in the running. As for Galliani, I can’t make a judgement without speaking about friendship. As for any conflict of interests with his position as football league president, he has never complained about referees and his conflict of interest is of no advantage." Berlusconi also cleared up any meeting there was meant to have happened with Moggi: "I never met with him after the Abbiati deal who felt not being a regular with us. Why did we bring in Vieri? I honestly didn’t think Inzaghi would fully return as I didn’t think the defence would have so many injuries. Galliani is looking for a defender. I have no news on Amoroso. With Rui Costa coming in, Kakà can play as an attacker."

Are two attackers better than two attacking midfielders? "It’s important that our style of play forces the opposition to defend. Kakà and Totti would probably work well together behind Sheva in attack." To end, Berlusconi talked about his future hope: "One day I would like to return to being Milan president because I enjoy it. Politics, instead, makes life hard, difficult and gives little satisfaction."
