I have heard that Donadoni may coach Milan soon and it could possibly be next season. He has done well at Livorno with them being a chance of them qualifying for the Champions League.

You have heard it?

Where? please list a source... if not, it's not even a rumor.

I doubt it's true.

I like Donnadoni very much as a player, of course, and it seems to me he can bee as good as a coach.

Without question GRE-NO-LI...he is an excellent coach, having taken unfancied Palermo to the dizzying heights of the Serie A table, (and I may be wrong here), which they have probably never attained previous to Donadoni´s tenure.

That he will replace Ancelotti next season I do believe is nothing more than (and again I may be wrong here) wishful thinking on your part :D, or if not, an unsubstantiated rumor.

Though we cannot believe 5% of what Berlu and Galliani say, I think that even if we dont win anything this season, Carlo will be at the helm come next term.

Warro, just a little note, he's coaching Livorno, not Palermo ;)

Ahh...thanks SANT, I stand corrected...but arent Livorno doing very well in the table...much better than ever in their history?

Yup, they are 5th...really a Mt Everest of a climb for this small club...

So, I was right, just wrong club!!! Too much :devs:

Do you think that Carlo will continue even if we didn't manage to win anything at all?!? Well, that sounds like a NIGHTMARE to me...

Based on our history and recent comments, I think there's about 65% chance Carlo may leave... simply because of the idea that a cycle may be completed...

Remember Costacurta saying how after 4-5 years the coach's image get so old that even if relationship with the squad is great, there's just not the same intensity? and that it's good to start fresh with new ideas, schemes, competition for a starting role?

plus, after WC, coaches start moving around... people like Van Basten may leave Netherlands and look for a club... what better than Milan? Donadoni has done great, but maybe a little to soon for him... maybe he will need to go one scale up the ladder and move from a small team like Livorno, to something more in the middle (like Lazio, Roma, Samp, Fiorentina, etc.) before reaching the levels of Milan, and the other two teams I can't name...

Van Basten coaching Milan will be glorious.

Do you think that Carlo will continue even if we didn't manage to win anything at all?!? Well, that sounds like a NIGHTMARE to me...Well, not in my estimation GRE-NO-LI...and for this reason, and this reason alone...

Few, if any coaches at Milan, have won what he has, in the short space of time that he has..correct me statisticians, but 2 major trophies in 3 years is nothing to sniff at... :sweeteye:

For this reason, 2 trophyless seasons is not a disaster, especially when one looks at what he has been given to work with (from a defensive stand point of course).

So, his continued tenure wouldnt be a disaster in my books, though I confess to having a gut feeling that if we dont win some kind of trophy this term, Berlu and Galliani may decide to let him go..but only if there is someone worthy of taking his place...

I have never forgotten what happened to Terim...

And Tabarez? Jesus, the man was awful, worst than Terim...

In my mind, there is little doubt that Van Basten will be the coach of Milan next year, IF (big IF) he steps down from the national team.

I realize this is a huge leap, and don't have any facts to base it on other than my own gut feeling.

I do feel a change will be needed, and the coach will need to be respected by the players but still young and fresh enough to bring about a new wave of Milan success.

I think even Carlo knows this is his last year, and my guess is he's perfectly OK with that. Waiting until the world cup is over before they start playing musical chairs.

i personally believe that if barca win la liga or c.l. or possibly both the great frank rikjard(sp) will be our coach next season. he has a get out clause in his contract with barca to leave for a overseas club!! now that would be bellisimo :3band:

Well the thing is that Van Basten and Rijkaard both have great jobs right now. Who in their right minds would want to give it up??? I know we are Milan but please!!! Why take the risk??? Now if we talk about Donadoni, that would a move up for him personally and the signs are that he's doing an obvious impressive job with a team that hasnt gone anywhere for years. Ok! oK! ok! Yeah credit has to be given to Spalletti for dishing out the Euros but this is Livorno and they are in 5th posisition! At 5th I would get the heck out of there the next season and move up to a bigger house. As far as Roby going to Rome or Lazio or the other 2 "i wont say" teams??? I dont think he wants to ruin his cred with our tifosi. Plus it can only lead to a blackmark on his career. I dont know the odds of the possibility o him being our next coach, but I surely believe he doesnt need a second to think about it whereas Frank and Marco would have to take a whole season contemplating this.
I've always like Donadoni as a player and now as a trainer. From the moment I laid my eyes on this man and seeing how he approached the game with the correct and often humble attitude is something that attributed to his personal succes and also to the success Milan has gotten for the sole fact of how he approaches the life of football. He's never complacent and always always given respect to all the teams he's been up against as a player and a coach.

If not Roby, I'm surprised no one has yet to even mention guys like Franco Baresi or even Mauro Tassotti. I know Mauro is the second in command but he too would be good for Milan. Frank R and MVB are too busy right now to be thinking about this and by the time it comes around to find a coach, they'll still be busy with other commitments i.e. the WC in Germany and god knows what in Barca.

I agree with Kui that both Rijkaard and MVB seem "unavailable" at the momemt but I think that Carlo would stay at Milan at least one more season when his contract with Milan will end. By then both Rijkaard and MVB could well be looking around for greener pastures.
As for Donadoni becoming a coach at Milan, I think Tassoti has a better chance at that since he had a lot of success with the youth team before he became Carlo's assistant. He knows the team inside out, while for Donadoni, although he is a former Milan player, things will be quite "new" should he arrive at Milanello. As for coaching abilities, I don't see how Donadoni is superior to Tassoti, who IMO would be the more obvious and better choice for Carlo's replacement profided that MVB and Rijkaard are not available.
Tassotti may not have experience as a head coach of a Serie A team but neither did Capello when he took over from Sacchi, and we all know what happened after that.

This would be a more accurate scenario when put in the context you have explained. Yes... why Tassotti isnt even in the picture is a mystery. And yes the continuity would be there for Tassoti more so than with Donadoni. Of course what is the general rule with assistants to released or fired managers??? I guess it all depends on the scenario we put in. Say if Carlo is no longer coach come this June??? Now what??? MVB and Rijkaard are still out of the picture IMO.

We should lso keep in mind that coaching Milan is a job full of stress and risks...Even though I would love to see one of the old dogs coach Milan, I agree with what Kui said about Van Basten and Rijkaard: why take the risk when you already have a safe and good job?

Well, Holland has a decent chance of being eliminated in first round. That would probably mean no more Van Basten coaching the National.

This could be Carlo's 6 last months with us. You never know, but I feel he must win either the Scudetto or the UCL to keep his job.

I guess a new coach, being Van Basten, Donadoni or whatever else, will come sooner than most of us think...

Dudes,

Although I get excited about these greats being mentioned as the next Milan coaches, i do firmly beleive we should stick with Ancelotti in good as well as bad. To me, football comes and goes in cycles, the cycle at the moment is favourable to Juventus, soon they will fall from grace and someone else (hopefully us) will take over. I think we just need to sit tight with Carlo....
