View Full Version : Galliani goes surrealistic!!!

"The defeat at the Olimpico means we have probably kissed goodbye to the Scudetto," said Galliani afterwards. "At this point there’s no point in talking about further purchases."

_____

Well, well, well... what do we have here? If Galliani thinks that we don't need further purchases because our Serie A hope's are gone, that is to say, because we are not playing sufficiently well to fight for the title, than I'm really don't understand nothinh anymore...

Pablo I

I read this remark and thought Galliani had absolutely lost the plot. Serie A is lost, no point in bringing in players? It is common knowledge that unless a player is coming out of contract in the summer, they will generally cost more as clubs are unwilling to destabilise the team without adequate compensation. So this no purchase policy would be yet another method of saving money.

Serie A is becoming a ridiculous league, heading for disaster. I don't think Galliani is stupid, and being the president of the football association I think it would be against his better judgement to allow clubs to sell their own rights at the expense of the minnows. This is a pure business, ruthless and unscrupulous, making it difficult for fans who provide revenue, who buy the merchandise, for them to follow their team...especially if they live abroad. I subscribed to ESPN who had the rights to Serie A, now I find they can only show Udinese v Treviso, or teams of similarly low popularity.

But Im sure that Galliani has been given his orders, just as Silvio was able to manipulate Parliament in order to change the laws regarding television rights. I am so gutted...

Moratti has cost Inter much success by interfering too much...But at least he loved his team that much that he would spare no expense to see them conquer one day. He had the right intentions. Milan however, has always been motivated by money. Wise investments are crucial, but operating on the cheap will not cut it in this new climate. Berlusconi started this escalating transfer fees when he stopped at nothing to pay (then) astronomical money for Gullit, Van Basten and Rijkaart.

It is time for him to adapt to this new climate, as Juventus will continue to increase their supremacy in the scudetto count.

I thought the same when I first read it, but hes probably right.

The Scuddetto is gone and any player worth getting or able to make a difference in our CL campaign will be cup tied. So we have no other choice to wait.

GRE-NO-LI
16-01-2006, 22:35
But why not bring new players now, so at the begin of the next season they will be already adapted?

K77SH C
16-01-2006, 22:39
Well, a new cup tied rightback would solve our problems in Seria A, but the fact that he couldnt play CL would add to our already existing problems.

No big name player, ie Alex will want to leave now and miss CL. Why sign a player half as good just because hes available.

GRE-NO-LI
16-01-2006, 23:17
That goddamned World Cup is being really a pain in the ass for our transfers needs, you are right about that.

no cup tied means that a player wont be eligible to play in the CL for us. For example Ballack has played for Bayern so if we signed him, he couldnt play in the CL for us until next season.

I know that, but I was thinking about the World Cup, because of all the stuff of players worried for being in the reserve.

By the Way: whoever thinks (being Galliani or just one of us poor Milan fans) that our place on next CL edition is guaranteed is dead wrong... we are now lying on third place, and certainly the team will have to fight fiercely for being on the first five, you can count on that....

we cannot count on anything now except, carlo and galliani improving our defence

there are quite a few players who are not cup tied that could help us.

lb: grosso, chivu (who can also play cd), evra (now gone to manu)
cd: barzagli, lugano, felipe
rb: oddo, bonera, maicon (mesto, marchionni, mancini they are both more midfielders than defenders)

But why not bring new players now, so at the begin of the next season they will be already adapted?

exactly. either they are adapted or we already know they won't do the job and we can get others.

when WC starts prices will get higher then they already are...
and like i've seen milan will never invest more then 20mil€ that the real maximum...

and probebly we will never buy 1... only sign (most signers were 29+)

if we don't sign players we won't be the milan we were before...we will be a runner up in serie A. always fighting for the title but never winning 'em ... if this keeps goin on like this...

of all these, only Chivu is a world class player and can get into Milan's first 11 i.e. make a real difference for us immediately. Problem is Roma are a pain in the ass when it comes to selling star players and even if they agree to offload him in the middle of the season, he would cost us at least 15 mil euros.
There are several very good players from the rest, who we could use - Lugano, Barzagli, Oddo, Bonera - but none of them is better than the players we already have. Maybe only Oddo would be of use right now since we don't have an attacking RB with Cafu being sidelined.
As for Mancini and Marchionni, we could use someone like them but doubt they would leave in midseason, at least Marchioni said he wants to stay with Parma. Mancini would probably leave in a heartbeat but Roma won't let him to.
Just read on www.tgcom.it/sport that Marchionni has chosen to sign for Juve next season. Don't know how definitive that is but that's what his choice seems to be right now.

so what? i think it should be quite obvious that building a new good defence won't be cheap. we can't expect to solve all our problems by signing free players. as a matter of fact i think 15 mio. euros for chivu is a relatively fair price (10 would be great 15 is imho the upper limit)

You sound like a guy who is ready to take 15 mil from his pocket money and hand it to Galliani for Chivu. I agree that 15 mil would be a fair price for a player like Chivu but then again how often do you see Milan pay that type of money for a player. Still, I believe the real problem with this transfer would be not Chivu's price but Roma's provincial, i-wanna-feel-important-at-least-for-a-day attitude. They would be hard to convince to sell him at the end of the season, let alone in the middle of it.
And given that in the summer there would be other very good players available for much less than 15 mil - Alex, Gallas, Lugano, and maybe even Cris - then I wouldn't be surprised to see Milan pass on Chivu because of his higher price too.

ah please. none of us has such pocket money.

but then again how often do you see Milan pay that type of money for a player.

that's the point. apart from gilardino we didn't pay big in the last years. that's why i think we can and we should if necessary.

Alex, Gallas, Lugano

i don't think they would be substantially cheaper than 10 - 15 mio. either but that is pure speculation.

apart from that i totally agree that it would be really hard to tempt roma to sell in mid season.

Gallas wants milan more than juve but Juve was alreay at london talking about him ( moggi of course, this man is all over the world, working non stop for juve and striking big deals, marchionni is now a juve player 99% ). But, milan didnt want Galls who can play as a RB or CB, and is a GREAT player. Chivu is very expensive, but you cant expect every player to be free! Even if we do sort our defence for the next season, you will se that we need an improvement in the middle. And one of pirlo, gattuso, seedorf has to go. I hope it will be clarence, and aldough I love his skills and passes, you have too look at the way he plays without the ball :( . Pirlo is also not giving his 100% in defence, but he is italian and playing for national team, as is gattuso. BUT, having gattuso in the team means you need an attacking RB, or moving Rino to the left to cover for Jankulovsky and buy a right winger if you have defensive RB. So these are the changes Galliani needs to think about, and with Berlusconi loosing elections and returning to the club :), we should be on the top again. This way by not working non stop, we are letting moggi-girauldo-battera do what ever they want and soon juve will posses more trophys , and more important, more clubs and managers in their palm.

I generally agree with what you said, but it makes me wonder though, why is it that we would necessarilly have to buy a world-class player who can immediately make some difference?I mean,i know it`s much easier to do that,at this point in time, since we definitely need reinforcement, but why not buy very good players(Barzagli,Bonera,Oddo) and make them into world-class ones?My point is that making a difference is a better solution now than remaining as we are and waiting for someone like Chivu to be available, and to make up his mind on whether he wants to join us or not.I reckon that either of the 3 aforementioned would fit in well(especially Oddo),plus, they wouldn`t cost as much, neither they would take an absolute age to make up their mind...

The last news talk about some german defenders (or playing in Bundesliga) + Cris (lyon). The major investiment would be Cris (10 m) + Simunic and Metzelder on free agent or few millions. All this in june.

Barzagli is quite expensive, and would come in June, not before. Palermo's president is ambitious and when you guys mention players don't forget the original club's will must be reckoned. Felipe is not reliable, he showed that with Udinese, do you see him playing as regular in a CL semifinal?

well that looks like a worst case to me!

the bundesliga player seems to be metzelder who is okay but he is nothing special and cris seems to be ok in lyon but he was horrible in leverkusen.

Barzagli is a certainty, but his signing won't be easy. He reminds me of the young Nesta, less classy but definitely as reliable. Always clean , tough, good header, excellent timing on the opposers. But many clubs want him

Spoiled... there is no better word to describe the mainstream of Milan supporters world wide. As for this particular season 2005/06 our defense is just fine, we have players such as Dida, Maldini, Stam, Kaladze, Nesta, Cafu, Simic, Costacurta, Serghino, Jankulovski etc... Name five squads around who have so much quality to choose from when it comes to the rear guard, not easy right? They have been playing well below their capabilities in several games this season, but this mainly has to do with the fact that the team as a whole is defending poorly and more importanly reacting poorly, my belief is that the game vs Liverpool has left us with more deep cuts then we thought at first and it will take some time to get past it, but we will. Uptil now we have been plagued by injuries (meaning that we constantly play with different defenders) and most defenders are out of form. That I admit, but there is nothing that says that our team and defence canīt raise their game once again. Believe in your squad, they have earned that right pending on what they in fact have achieved so far. As for transfers etc during this window itīs like a lala-land around here, many can still be found in the cm bubble. You donīt just sign him or him cause they seem good or played good at another club. Galliani is spot on, the possibility of winning the league seems remote at best right now, therefor there really isnīt much point in rushing in new players. Most of the top quality defenders are in fact cup-tied by now anyways and we DO have quality defenders at our disposal as it is, what we need to do is to get back on track. We need to finish this season in the best possible way with our focus directed on the Champions League and then when this season is over weīll do our analysis and fix what is broken.

I believe in Milan, in Ancelotti and in our players, hopefully more Milan faithfuls do the same and decides to stand by that belief. There is a time when :nunu: is needed, but we arenīt quite there yet, itīs not like weīre a disgrace out there, we simply need to reach our peek again. Weīll see in May if it is time for :nunu: or :5drunk:, until then FOOORRZZZA MIIILLAAAN!!!!!

no the time is about to come, because costacurta will retire and maldini's form is worrying, that means we can't afford to be uncovered in crucial moments of the season. i don't know if stam will stay one year more, he said that in the past.

so it's time to look around beforehand and get the best options in advance.

i don't like gossiping and market rumours either, i'm not the kind of person who gets wet with hyped names, but the time to find future replacement has come.

We could possibly lose 3/4 of our defence this summer. Stam is leaving for sure, Maldini could retire, and we could also lose Cafu. This would mean that we need three new defenders who are good enough to claim a place in the starting eleven. I'm not counting on Billy next season either, and I wouldn't be surprised if Kaladze and/or Simic will want to leave due to not playing enough. We need to completely rebuild our defence if this situation, which I think is quite plausible, should occur. So the management MUST plan for the future, and they should start NOW, if they haven't already.
